HART Wildlife Rescue - Medstead
What a busy couple of months it's been

As the leaves have been turning crisp and orange and the nights drawing in, HART has welcomed our 3,300th animal into the hospital this year. 2020 saw a total of 3,233 animals, so the team really have had their work cut out for them. In October alone we rescued 246 animals, including barn owls, swans, a red kite, kestrals, tawny owls, brown longeared bats, badgers, foxes and a staggering 99 hedgehogs.

Spotlight - Emergency badger rescue in Beech...
In October HART were called out to a site in Beech where some construction work was taking place, after a badger had been spotted down an enormous hole in the earthworks. The team, with care, patience and skill, managed to catch the badger and remove it from the hole. Despite the badger being in his more seasoned years, he thankfully presented no major concerns, suggesting his rescue must have taken place not long after he fell. On release, the badger was quickly off the mark and knew exactly where he was going!
Stories like these are excellent reminders to all of us undertaking any sort of construction work (even small-scale work in the garden), that it is important to keep wildlife at the forefront of our minds and regularly check for animals, where possible covering any holes that they might fall into when not working on site.

The Waltham Tandoori
You will find Waltham Tandoori in the small picturesque town of Bishops Waltham nestled amongst its wealth of Georgian buildings and period charm. Located just a short walk away from the main high street, this Indian restaurant is well established having been in existence for 18 years, with a regular and loyal clientele of customers from the local area. Formerly the site of a pub, it's now a spacious venue with a well run, relaxed feel and large car park to the rear. The service is attentive and polite, and our food was well presented and arrived in a timely manner.
The menu is extensive and features a good range of dishes including a full page of starters and house specials, plus classic choices such as tandoori and other traditional favourites. There's also a broad range of fish dishes for those wishing to try something more adventurous including tandoor trout masala or dhungar machli tikka, a marinated Bangladeshi freshwater fish special. The food was excellent; flavoursome and plentiful, with a good combination of subtle tastes. This is much more of an upmarket restaurant than just a traditional curry house. If you're a fan of good quality Indian food in convivial surroundings, then I recommend that you take a journey to Bishops Waltham, for a real taste of India.

The land that the restaurant is situated on is steeped in history, having previously served as The White Hart coaching inn during the 17th century. Towards the end of the 19th century it was re-established as The Mafeking Hero in memorial of the siege of Mafeking and those from Bishop’s Waltham who served.
