Do you want your lawn to look great all summer? Adopt these practices.
• Sharpen your lawnmower blades. Clean-cut grass grows back faster than grass that’s been ripped or torn.
• Leave the clippings on the ground. They’ll slowly release nitrogen. However, avoid leaving a layer thicker than one-quarter of an inch. This will smother the grass.
• Mow more often but leave it longer. Cutting your grass to a height of two to three inches promotes root
development and grass density. It also makes the grass less vulnerable to drought.
• Water only as needed. Water your grass to a depth of about one inch a week, including rainfall. Water in the morning to limit evaporation.
• Apply compost. This provides essential nutrients, stimulates root growth and increases resistance to diseases and pests.

Windbreaks are commonly used in the agricultural industry to protect crops and reduce soil erosion. However, they’re becoming increasingly popular on residential properties. For instance, a windbreak can help protect your home from strong winds if you live in an area with few buildings and sparse tree cover.
⊲ CRITERIA
Planting a windbreak requires careful planning.
To ensure its effectiveness, you must consider the following:
• The plant’s growth, including its mature height, width and thickness
• The plant’s orientation in relation to the wind
• The plant’s permeability
⊲ SPECIES
If you want to get the most out of your investment, take the time to carefully select trees or shrubs that will block the wind while also beautifying your property. Avoid invasive exotic species at all costs. Instead, choose native species that are easy to maintain and can withstand temperature variations.
Popular windbreak trees include spruce, pine, hemlock, cedar, elder, crab-apple and poplar. If you
want to attract birds and pollinating insects, plant tree or shrub varieties they like. Need advice on planting and maintaining your windbreak?
Consult your local nursery or contact a landscaping company in your area.
Before starting your project, consult your municipality’s bylaws. For instance, you may need to plant your windbreak a certain distance from buildings, ditches, waterways and electrical wires.

You read right! There aren’t many breakfast and dessert recipes that you can prepare on the barbecue, and the whole family is going to love this one. Substitute the chocolate hazelnut spread for peanut butter if you want to make a version that’s not quite as sweet and that’s more sustaining. For best results, your grill should have a cover and a high shelf.
Ingredients
(Serves 4)
• 8 slices bread
• 6-8 tbsp chocolate hazelnut spread (Nutella gives great results)
• 4 ripe bananas, cut in ½-inch slices
• 4 medium eggs
• 1 cup chocolate milk
• 2 tbsp sugar
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• Some cooking oil for the grill
• Icing sugar for garnish
