I’ve always thought that there’s much to recommend London in August (not least the fact that it is so beautifully quiet everywhere). If you’re sticking around this month, from open-air film screenings and outdoor theatre, to the thrill of the annual Notting Hill Carnival, you’ll find plenty of ideas for things to keep you busy within these pages.

And, while the crowds are away, it’s a great opportunity to get yourself down to hip new Mayfair restaurant and bar, Gazelle. Read all about the concept in our interview with founders Tony Conigliaro and Rob Roy Cameron.

KNOW YOUR LIMITS What exactly are restrictive covenants? Are they enforceable, and in what circumstances might they be discharged? Simon Nosworthy, Head of Property at Osbornes, has the answers

application to HM Land Registry. For the Land Registry to do this all persons who have an interest in the benefit of a particular covenant must be identified and all must agree to the discharge of the covenant. The body that deals with applications to discharge or modify restrictive covenants is the Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber).

The sale of ‘Harry the Hermit’s’ land next to Hampstead Heath in June this year highlights how the existence of restrictive covenants over property or land can limit its usage. In this case, the half-acre plot is subject to a legal agreement or covenant drawn up in 1923 stating that no buildings can be built upon the land. This explains why the plot was sold at auction for only £154,000!

What is a restrictive covenant?

A restrictive covenant is a provision, or promise, contained in a deed to land that restricts or limits its use; the proper term is a “burden” of a covenant. The covenant is bound to the land and may limit all future owners or occupiers at any time.

Positive covenants A “positive” covenant is a promise to do something, or to contribute money. So you may be under a positive covenant for the upkeep of a shared driveway, trees or a fence. The burden to deal with such matters does not generally tie in future owners of land, unless any future owner enters into a deed of covenant consenting in the future to observe the positive covenants.

What is the intention of a restrictive covenant?

Restrictive covenants have been in existence for hundreds of years and were often designed to preserve the image of an area or development and have been used to restrict the growth of commercial businesses within a residential area.

A great local example is the 880 acres of North London that form the Hampstead Garden Suburb, where residents are bound by covenants to ensure the character of the suburb is preserved.

Are restrictive covenants enforceable?

Simply put, yes they are – in the same way that any other contract is enforceable. If a covenant has been breached, the person who benefits from the covenant may sue the person who is bound by the covenant. However, there may be situations where they will fail. For example, if the covenant is too uncertain or ambiguous to be capable of enforcement or if the covenant is contrary to public policy.

Can you discharge or modify a restrictive covenant?

To remove or ‘unburden’ a property or land from a restrictive covenant will require an

Before purchasing your property, your solicitor should bring to your attention any restrictive covenants that may appear on the title deeds.

These would appear on the HM Land Registry register for the property. We are referring to freehold covenants in this article, but any leasehold covenants would appear in the lease to your property.

Your solicitor should investigate the extent to which these covenants may still be enforceable, and advise you as to the level of risk of enforcement in the event of a breach and whether you should consider taking out covenant indemnity insurance.

Thought would need to be given to the extent to which there were any parties still in existence that could enforce the covenant.

Until 18 Aug | Lisson Gallery When is a painting not a painting?

It’s a fascinating question, and one that’s explored from many different angles in Bare. De la Cruz’s work sits in an unruly space between painting and sculpture – canvases are pierced, slashed or unleashed from their stretchers to create anarchic 3D forms that slump on plinths or hang from frames. Their power lies in the tension between strength and fragility, the beauty and the broken. The exhibition also includes a number of works from the Turner-prize nominated artist’s Crate series. These warped hollow, aluminium forms are wedged into smaller containers, their twisted, impacted shapes giving the impression of having been dropped from a great height or fallen from the sky. Intriguing.

As Mayfair welcomes Gazelle, an exciting joint venture between master mixologist Tony Conigliaro and ex-El Bulli chef Rob Roy Cameron, we get seated with the dynamic duo just in time for the dress rehearsal

London is experiencing an uncommon heatwave; the air is thick, the traffic is slow and Piccadilly is shimmering. Turning onto Albemarle Street I’m shown through the discreet door of an otherwise boarded-up façade. The decorators are still in and the paint fumes only add to the heady mix, but once inside the inner sanctum of this late-Georgian townhouse the glamour is palpable. Offering a fresh voice on the Mayfair scene, this is a destination bar as much as it is a restaurant, and the atmosphere’s already abuzz as finishing touches are put in place. There’s an undeniable heat surrounding these two and what they’re cooking up – and it has little to do with the 28 degree sunshine outside.

Tony had the name for Gazelle way before the physical realisation of the venue. Inspired by Truman Capote’s ‘swans’, the nickname given to the American writer’s inner circle of female friends, Tony wanted a similar animal muse for the project’s moniker, but one which perhaps didn’t scream ‘London pub’. “I was looking out for a name that symbolised that same kind of elegance and femininity,” he says. “Someone mentioned a gazelle and I thought, what a great image that paints, and so it kind of stuck.” The space was designed with long-time collaborator Shaun Clarkson and is everything you’d expect from a chic Mayfair eatery that exudes old Hollywood glamour – there’s no doubt Jay Gatsby would approve of this interior. It’s very ‘fashion’, too, from the flashy gold and fandango-pink walls to the gilded gazelle horn door handles; the stylish pendants and chandeliers to the plush, cream hide seating. “We took inspiration from fashion designers like Haider Ackermann,” Tony confirms, “his use of colours and textures and satins and silks… We wanted to do something bold and joyous, full of life and uplifting.”

Gazelle offers a day-to-night concept that’s reflected in both the décor and the menu. Lunch and dinner will be served on the lower floor with its rich, golden glow before evening drinks and snacks take over in the moodier velvety surrounds of the upstairs bar. But there’ll be no clocking off for the El Bulli alumnus and his team. In fact, for Rob, this is where the fun really begins with wholly creative pairings. “For me it’s a logical extension to kind of explore the dynamic that happens between kitchen and bar” indeed Gazelle’s raison d’être and I wonder if there’s a distinctly Spanish influence at play here. “It’s an evolution,” says Rob. “There’s always been this separation between bartenders and chefs but it’s starting to come together. At El Bulli in the late ’90s they were doing cocktails as part of the dish and the menu. I think it’s changing now in London, there are more bars having chefs help out or advise, or they’re having chefs do food. It’s going in a good direction.”

Working with the food menu is an entirely comfortable arrangement for East London’s cocktail king, too: “I’ve worked a lot with restaurants so there was always a big connection with food,” says Tony. “I was one of the first bartenders to really work with chefs so for me it’s a logical extension to kind of explore the dynamic that happens between kitchen and bar, which is obviously very different to when we first started out.”

Serving up modern European cuisine with global influences, I’m keen to find out what flavours we can expect but I’ll have to wait until the opening to get a true taste. Nevertheless, I’m salivating on words alone: “At the moment we’ve got the cured halibut with activated charcoal and citrus,” reveals Rob. “The menu’s going to evolve a lot.

It’s been really fun going to the lab and seeing all the by products, all the things they’re not using that we can use in the kitchen: spices that they infuse and then don’t need afterwards – maybe it takes off a bitterness that it originally had, or it’s slightly sweeter, or it changes the flavour a bit...

We go once a week and have a rummage through the cupboards. It’s been really interesting!”

For Tony on the drinks side, that process of painstaking research has proved equally fruitful: “We’ve looked a lot at our top drinks that we’ve had at our other venues and just fabricmagazine.co.uk

really pushed them to that next level, you know, things that people will recognise but also newer drinks based around what Rob’s been doing with the food,” he tells me.

“We’ve got a really strong non-alcoholic offering as well, it’s really refined, more refined than we’ve ever done, so that’s exciting.” But I’m told it’s their comprehensive Champagne cocktail list that’s really set to sparkle – and to set Gazelle apart from all the rest: “We were scratching our heads and couldn’t think of anywhere around the world that does a really good Champagne cocktail list. That was a major focus for us and obviously that’s wine-based as such, which ties in nicely with the food.”

Gazelle’s location could not be more perfect – a cultural and foodie hotspot bang in the centre of town. But it wasn’t so much that Rob and Tony chose Mayfair, rather Mayfair chose them: the pair were headhunted by the current landlord. “It was a really great opportunity, they really liked what we do and wanted us to be part of the growing community they’re curating on this street,” Tony explains.

“You’ve got some really great places all the way down, you’ve got the refurb of Browns and so on, so there’s a lot going on. It’s becoming like a whole-street destination.”

I wonder what kind of clientele they’ll be expecting, given Gazelle’s glitzy coordinates. “We’re going to get people who live in Mayfair but being so central I think we’ll get people from all over,” enthuses Rob. “I think because of the style of the project it’s going to draw a mix that’s a bit different from the usual Mayfair crowd.” Tony agrees, telling me that they looked specifically at what was missing in the area and tried to deduce what people really wanted from a new opening here. A host of interesting collaborators, including New York photographer Zackery Michael, whose work will adorn the walls, will no doubt attract a fashion-savvy footfall. “I think some of the younger crowd are looking for something a bit more fun, but in a stylish way, not classic Mayfair. That’s being diplomatic,” Tony laughs, “a bit more bohemian.”

The drinks man sums it up best when he tells me: “There’s space for something fresh.” And if anyone’s tuned into the zeitgeist of modern Mayfair, it’s this creative duo.

“We both, separately, came to the same conclusion, which is about the flavours, purely ingredient-based, flavour-based stuff,” Tony continues. “There’s a Leonardo da Vinci quote, ‘simplicity is the greatest sophistication’ – it’s really hard to make things that are really simple, but are excellent.

You can do all these flashy things, but to be really precise and simple, and have a really beautiful dish, or a beautiful drink, takes a hell of a lot more effort and knowledge.” I don’t doubt it. I don’t doubt, either, that Gazelle will fulfil its potential as one of the Capital’s hottest tables, and soon.

“It’ll evolve,” says Tony. “I think there’ll be some really interesting things that’ll come out with the collaboration between the drinks and the food, we’re just looking forward to welcoming everyone down.”

Toast of the town We’re spoilt for choice when it comes to wine bars, but think that the Capital’s newest offers something that extra bit special.

Opening this month, wine bar, restaurant and shop Lady of the Grapes will showcase wines made predominantly by female winemakers. Carole Bryon, the owner of the Maiden Lane bar believes women are still hugely under represented in the wine industry, and hopes that the new venture will support all women in wine. The bar, which seats just 29, boasts a wine list featuring 80 wines, all organic, biodynamic or natural, made with no additives, low sulfites and indigenous yeasts only. An exciting organic food menu has been designed around those wines by chef and restaurateur Victor Garvey.

And the on site deli will offer not only a wide selection of wines to take away, but also an extensive list of cheeses, charcuterie and fine grocery products. We’ll drink to that.

The first thing I cooked was… something I call chip balls! My brother and I used to mould chips into our hands to form one large chip ball… But that’s not exactly cooking, so it would probably be Yorkshire puddings with my nan, who was an amazing cook.

Bucket There’s something so calming about being beside the seaside: the fresh breeze, the soft sand, and the sound of the sea. It’s a far cry from the chaos of central London, and of course, you need to travel a long way to be reunited with the coast.

Or at least that was the case until Bucket, a small independent seafood restaurant, moored up on Westbourne Grove.

Still in its opening few months, Bucket has been created by Georgie Godik Hayward – daughter of Gaucho founder Zeev Godik – and her husband Adam Hayward.

It’s their first restaurant and wholly unexpected given its location. Decorated in calming sandy tones, with a wood-panelled bar and straw lights that look like hanging anemone above the entrance, it feels like a weather worn but luxurious beach shack.

Cushioned cabanas line the wall and at the end of the restaurant I can see the chefs setting up behind a glass window that feels reminiscent of a fish tank.

On the menu tonight, or The Bucket List, as it’s known here, is an enviable line up.

From their speciality, buckets of every type of seafood, to the lobster toastie, all the fish are sustainably sourced – no mean feat in the heart of W2.

We try seaweed crisps and squid ink crackers, lobster mac and cheese and the catch of the day: steam roasted whole plaice. You don’t expect fish that was caught that very morning to be sat on your plate when you’re in central London.

But here it is, served alongside

celeriac chips and caper berry butter. It tastes (and looks) divine. Their tag line is ‘food for your feed’ and I’ll be the first to admit that, much to my followers’ dismay, our feast is plastered all over Instagram Stories.

After a seaweed cocktail or two I’m close to drifting off in my cushioned cabana, and after finding such a relaxing spot, it’s hard to set sail again.

My kitchen heroes are… so many that it is hard to choose.

I would have to say Anthony Demetre for his knowledge and natural ability to write a menu from a fridge with practically nothing in it!

My fail-safe dinner party menu is… probably a salad of burrata with heritage tomatoes, basil and olive oil to start. I’d follow up with something which gives maximum results for minimum effort, such as a slow roasted joint of meat on the bone, maybe lamb shoulder, cooked over Bollinger potatoes and served with crushed peas and mint. For pudding it would have to be a trifle.

My last meal on earth would be… a 35-day aged chargrilled rib eye steak on the bone, served with sautéed foie gras, Béarnaise sauce, triple-cooked chips and untold amounts of shaved Périgord truffles.

Followed by apple tarte tatin with Calvados crème fraîche.

When I feel down I bake… cupcakes with my sons Walter and Archie; we love a cupcake.

“Lunch in Nice by private jet” – now there’s a phrase that’s guaranteed to make even the most seasoned traveller’s heart beat a little faster. And I must confess that when I receive the invitation from private jet charter company PrivateFly, I can feel myself grinning from ear to ear.

And so it is, in a delightful flutter of anticipation, that I make my way to Luton Airport. It sounds unlikely, but the airport defined by budget flights, Lorraine Chase and 1970s Campari ads has a double life as the UK’s busiest hub for private jets.

Even before I step into the Signature Flight Support building (aka the private jet terminal), I’m aware that the experience is going to be something very special indeed. I’m greeted first by a doorman in full top-hatted livery, who wouldn’t look out of place outside a Mayfair hotel and then by a chic receptionist who

checks my passport against the passenger list.

The aura of discreet luxury continues inside the departure lounge, with its elegant grey décor and sumptuous sofas. We sit and chat with PrivateFly’s CEO, Adam Twidell, who explains that in spite of the luxurious surroundings private jet passengers usually spend very little time in the terminal – they can turn up 15 minutes before a flight, and walk straight onto the plane after going though passport control and security (which takes all of two minutes).

We are flying to Nice in a spanking new Cessna Citation Latitude eight-seater jet.

Walking up the steps is a real red carpet moment (there is an actual red carpet on the tarmac!), so I channel my inner movie star and sit down as nonchalantly as a woman who is as excited as a six-year-old on her birthday can manage. The cabin is super luxe – white leather seats, highly polished mahogany tables, plush carpet. Adam remarks with amusement that I have opted for the ‘CEO seat’ – the one diagonally behind the pilot. Apparently it’s the automatic choice of captains of industry, who like to be able to make eye contact with the person flying the aircraft. There is a real thrill being able to see directly into the cockpit, where the pilot and co-pilot are making their last minute checks before we taxi onto the runway.

Even the most jaded flier can’t fail to be excited by the G-force you experience taking off in a small aircraft. We climb steeply through the lightest of cloud and within minutes are cruising comfortably. It’s time for a glass of Champagne – the first of many on what will prove to be a truly sybaritic day. This is what travelling in the golden age of aviation must have been like, when flying was about the thrill of being airborne, rather than the purgatorial experience it has since become. Having resisted the coffee and mini croissants in the terminal,

I’m looking forward to breakfast – and it doesn’t disappoint. It appears in an elegant grey box containing a selection of fresh fruit, cheese and charcuterie with artisan bread. It’s a far cry from the flabby rolls and strange yoghurts that are the usual fare on an aircraft at this time of day. Adam is our flight attendant, serving food and topping up drinks, but he tells us that it’s usually the pilot or co-pilot who fulfils this role on most private flights (when the plane is on auto-pilot, of course).

Our flight to Nice – just an hour and 45 minutes – passes very quickly and we prepare to land. The approach to the airport is one of the most scenic in the world – sweeping over the Alps and hugging the Côte d’Azur, before touching down on a runway that juts out into the Mediterranean. We’re met by a people carrier that takes us to another discreet terminal, passing dozens more private jets on the way. With an equally seamless passage through customs and passport control, we head off for lunch at Le Méridien on the Promenade des Anglais. Astonishingly, it’s only two-and-half hours since I arrived at the terminal in Luton.

Lunch takes place on La Terrasse, the hotel’s ninth floor restaurant with stunning sea views and a rooftop swimming pool. It’s hard to imagine a more quintessentially Riviera setting.

The sun is out, so on go the hats, sunglasses and sun cream and we sip local rosé (what else) while we enjoy a four-course meal that showcases the fabulous local seafood. Over the meal Adam gives us a little background on PrivateFly. A former RAF pilot, “I flew Hercules, because I was too slow to be a fighter pilot,” he became a private jet pilot after he left the service. Spotting a gap in the market, he came up with the idea of a global booking platform for private jet charter that connects customers with 7,000 aircraft worldwide. “Time is the ultimate luxury,” Adam points out, “and private jet travel is incredibly efficient.” There are 2,000 airports you can fly to in Europe with a private jet, compared with 850 airports with scheduled flights, so it makes a much greater number of journeys possible. Plus, you have absolute privacy, which makes it attractive for business travel. However, the majority of

The afternoon is ours to do with as we please – sunbathe, swim in the pool or the sea, or wander around the town. I stroll down to the beach – it’s ferociously hot and I curse myself for not bringing my swimming costume.

In search of shade, I make my way to the Old Town, with its elegant Belle Époque apartment buildings and narrow streets lined with chic independent shops. It’s a delightful way to while away a couple of hours.

On most trips, when the car arrives to take you to the airport for the return flight, the holiday spirit starts to ebb away. On this one, my spirits lift at the thought of another hour and 45 minutes of private jet flying time. More Champagne adds to the party mood, and there are more delicious nibbles to tempt us as we cruise through sunset skies before landing at Luton around 8pm.

The great escape

For travellers craving peace and quiet, Terre Blanche resort is a haven of serenity; the perfect spot for some authentic yet stylish Provençal rest and relaxation WOR DS P E N NY CL E M E NTS

ust 35 minutes from the beach in the magical French Riviera, you will find Terre Blanche, a beautiful oasis hidden in the wooded heart of Provence. The fuss-free 45-minute drive from Nice International Airport finds me winding through forested countryside roads, past Lac de Saint-Cassien and its crystal clear blue waters, before sweeping up to the hotel’s grand gated entrance. Arriving feels like driving into a fairy tale: accessed via a small road flanked by greenery and wild flowers, Terre Blanche has already delivered, but I am promised so much more (a relaxing infinity pool, a super luxe spa, an 18-hole championship golf course, a Michelin starred restaurant…). It seems there truly is something for everyone, including the children, whose activities are apparently given as much thought as those for the grown-ups, with a dedicated clubhouse complete with heated pool, a vast itinerary of daily activities and a kids-only restaurant. Something that interests me only because it means that, as a child-free traveller, the peace of the pool should not be disturbed.

I am enchanted: designed to echo its surroundings, Terre Blanche (French for white stone), tumbles higgledy-piggledy down the forested valley like an old medieval village. Twisting and turning, its paths lead through the vast 750 acres of immaculate landscaped gardens and accommodation that come in the form of 115 suites or private villas.

As I make my way to my own suite, heavily fragranced plants, tropical coloured flowers and traditional cypress trees make it easy to forget that I am in a resort. And the interiors are equally impressive. My suite is the epitome of understated luxury: classic Provençal yellow and terracotta walls, neutral luxury linens and minimalist sculptures from hotel owner, Dietmar Hopp’s personal collection. There is a separate living room, a large walk in wardrobe and an even larger bathroom with heated marble floor. Spacious and filled with natural light, I think that I will be very happy here indeed.

Terre Blanche might feel like more of a village than a hotel, but this is no average village, with four al fresco restaurants dotted across the site. I’m determined to discover all of them before I leave…

First up, Michelin-starred Le Faventia. A destination in itself for gourmands, offering contemporary gourmet French cuisine and an exquisite wine menu. It is not to be missed. I enjoy a more casual evening of fine dining at Provençal-flavoured Le Gaudina. Set on a beautiful terrace it is the perfect place to relax on a warm summer’s evening. Specially designed lighting creates a romantic but stylish ambience as the sun gradually sinks behind the trees in the distance.

The chef here has created a seasonal and locally-produced menu – be sure to try one of their signature, summer inspired cocktails and indulge in some local strawberries and shortbread (giving the British a run for their money). I enjoy a couple of long lazy lunches at Les Caroubiers at the golf clubhouse, perfect after a morning on the fairway. And discover that Le Tousco is the place for light poolside lunches – gourmet treats include freshly caught lobster, a selection of grilled meats and salads.

I am more relaxed than I have been in some time, especially after a visit to the spa. Set over 35,000 sq ft this is the ultimate pampering palace. Dramatic white pillars and towering ceilings set a very grand tone, and there are no less than 14 treatment rooms (two for couples), but it still feels deliciously intimate. An extensive treatment list has been developed by Valmont and KOS Paris to offer targeted treatments for the whole body. I opt for a 60-minute full body massage by candlelight, and am so relaxed I can barely move afterwards. Fortunately there are lots of private areas to escape to. I choose to relax on a sun lounger, listening to the gentle sounds of leaves rustling and birds singing, whilst enjoying the views of the luxuriously planted grounds, before taking a dip in the secluded outdoor vitality pool. Re-energised I head to explore the sauna, steam room and large heated indoor pool.

While the spa’s watering holes offer wonderful serenity, the resort’s main pool is equally special. It is nestled in the aromatic and enchanting wisteria entwined gardens, overlooking the forested panorama of the valley below. Cabanas and sun loungers hug the water’s edge and staff are on hand with complimentary fresh towels, sun cream and water. Nothing is too much trouble for the team here at Terre Blanche – I have rarely been so well looked after.

I could easily spend the whole holiday within the resort grounds, but it feels wrong not to venture outside to explore the charming surroundings, and I’m glad I do. I spend a happy morning at the weekly market in neighbouring Fayence, which offers local produce and colourful stalls, a real taste of authentic France. But top of my holiday wish list is a tour and tasting at one of the local vineyards, which I ask the concierge team to arrange for me. They tell me that Château d’Esclans is the place to go. Just 40 minutes up the road from Terre Blanche it is set in one of the grandest looking châteaus in Provence and is known for producing the world’s most expensive rosé wine, Garrus, and its three very pale siblings (Whispering Angel, Rock Angel and Les Clans). Famous for being almost white in colour, Garrus rosé is fresh, has a vital, fruity taste and a burgundy-like silkiness.

I learn that temperature control of the grapes from the vineyard to the barrel is critical for keeping the natural aromas of the wines, and to avoid the extraction of too much colour from the skins.

Definitely one to remember when I have a spare £100 to part with…

All too soon my stay draws to a close – it has been very special indeed. As I make my way back to Nice, on perhaps the world’s most picturesque airport transfer, I reflect that the true magic of Terre Blanche lies in its stylish mix of serenity and luxury. I feel thoroughly spoilt, and soothed to my very soul.

Sacha started The Vintage Chandelier Company, selling reworked and restored vintage lighting, at the same time as buying her Queen’s Park property. It was a no-brainer that the beautiful four-bed Victorian home, with its grand proportions and daylight-loving aspect, would become the perfect outlet in which to display those dazzling chandeliers. But the house wasn’t always the stunning show home it is today, rather a labour of love, which began in a moment of serendipity: “It was a very popular time to buy in Queen’s Park with lots of outbidding going on, so we put letters in people’s doors and were delighted when the owner of our house contacted us back,” Sacha recalls. “It was like a Tardis, much larger once we went inside, and we also loved the prettiness and feel of the road. But it was going to be a big project. We did the side return and loft extension all at once, which took six months.”

The house is filled with colourful eye-candy, mixing primary brights with sumptuous textiles; treasured

vintage finds with contemporary pieces. Yes, it served as a magnificent lighting showroom, but beyond that, the property showcased Sacha’s obvious flair for interiors.

Another opportune moment came when a client, there to view the lighting, asked Sacha to help design and decorate their three-bed flat, setting her on a career path in interior styling and design – a natural next step.

“After a couple of projects were featured in magazines I decided I’d love to do it more full-time and that’s when I started Honey Bee Interiors,” she says. “I felt there was a niche in the market for more affordable and accessible design and I was fortunate to be popular on the interiors website Houzz. The clientele just built up and since then I’ve done whole-house projects as well as smaller individual room makeovers.”

Like all the most intriguingly lived-in and loved houses, Sacha’s continues to evolve as pieces are added, wall coverings are updated, and new-found artworks are hung. “If I love something, I normally just buy it

and then find a home for it,” she states, proving that heart-over-head is demonstrably the best way to shop when it comes to dressing your most precious asset.

In fact, so much of what Sacha does works on instinct – that elusive “eye” for putting a room together. “When we moved here we brought with us a bright pink armchair from Tann Rokka from our old flat, and it felt like the living room had to be based around it, hence the bright colours and mix of fabrics and patterns,” she says.

Describing her interiors style as “a mix of contemporary and modern vintage,” Sacha’s abode emanates personality, from her daughter’s unapologetically cute bedroom with its ballet pink toile de Jouy wallpaper, to the chic, retro-styled kitchen with its neon sign and edgy letter lights. It’s a bold eclecticism that works harmoniously throughout the house: a place for everything and everything in its place. But with every square foot carefully considered,

designed and optimised to the max, does Sacha secretly harbour a favourite spot? “My favourite room seems to change at different times of the year,” she explains.

“In the summer, when the sun’s out, I love my kitchen space with the doors wide open. It’s the lightest room in the house and feels so much larger when incorporated with the garden. In winter I like to indulge in an early night watching trash TV in bed with the fire on.

The dark walls feel really intimate and sumptuous.”

I always look forward to coming back home, it doesn’t matter from where; there is something very special and calming about Little Venice. I absolutely love walking beside the canal on my way to the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Maida Vale. The place is an oasis. If you are intrigued, try a lesson with Ofra and you will not be disappointed.

On the days that I have time, between my clients and my Portuguese and French studies, I like to visit the West London Buddhist Centre on Porchester Road. I would recommend meditation to anybody who wants to learn how to enjoy life even more. I must say that being healthy and centred is very important to me. I believe that it helps me to generate good energy and to provide the very best service to my clients.

My favourite local lunch spot with friends, family or

just with a book is Clifton Nurseries, for sure. They serve very tasty food and the location is fantastic, though it is hard for me to go home without buying an orchid or two! Flowers always make me happy.

If you are vegetarian like me, you definitely have to visit Clifton Greens, a fruit and veg store on Clifton Road. It is absolutely amazing and I have never been disappointed.

Everyone there welcomes you with a smile and you always find new and exotic

The future’s soft Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up and you’d better hope they don’t say “train driver”. If current advances are anything to go by, this classic childhood career choice will fall foul of automation in the coming decades. And a recent report by McKinsey Global Institute predicts that all workers will need to adapt to work alongside increasingly capable machines.

So how can we equip our children today for the jobs of tomorrow? “With artificial intelligence taking so many jobs, we don’t know what children will be doing when they grow up,” says Philippa Cawthorne, head of Bassett House School in North Kensington.

“That’s why it’s important that they become flexible and adaptable, with a strong inner core of confidence.”

Many futurologists also recommend developing soft skills that are hard to automate, such as creativity, problem solving and communicating with others.

Bassett House encourages these through residential trips, where the children live in a wood, build fires and work in teams.

“We want our children to have a solid academic foundation, but other aspects of life are just as important,” explains Philippa.

“Schools that offer this balance have bright, happy, energetic children who are engaged in their learning.”

How did you get into landscape gardening?

I’ve always loved gardens and gardening and (much to my mother’s delight) took charge of our family garden in my early teens. I’m passionate about creating beautiful gardens, whether it be for private residences or for the Chelsea Flower Show.

of your garden space. There are other considerations too, so it’s worth checking the guidance from your local authority and any restrictions specific to your home.

2 Talk to your supplier about how you intend to use the garden room. 4 Try to future proof your garden room. It should be with you for a lifetime, and what you intend to use it for today might be quite different to how you are using it in 20 years’ time.

Consider getting the greatest amount of space you can so that you are able to change furnishings in your building as your family grows and the use of the space alters over time.

5 Make sure you research the market. There are an enormous number of companies offering seemingly similar products, but with scrutiny the differences are significant. Check the specification closely and look at the range of designs available.

By not being afraid and allowing our imaginations to run free! Creative by nature, our designers relish the challenge of producing something out of the ordinary and we’re always actively researching new and innovative materials, plants and techniques.
