CAN YOU IMAGINE? PROGRAMME: Trash cans for hearts and people have no soul – a collective exhibition curated by Augustin Rebetez _ Art_Inkubator Joan Fontcuberta, Science & friction _ Art_Inkubator Noémie Goudal, Southern Light Stations _ Art_Inkubator
Can you imagine? Will you get yourself deceived? Do you really believe what you see? Are you sure you can see everything and miss nothing? Welcome to the reality where nothing is obvious and clear at a glance. Welcome to the universes where it is easy to get lost, if only you let yourself be taken off guard for a while. Meet the artists who are going to test your imagination! Joan Fontcuberta, Augustin Rebetez, Noémie Goudal, Martin Kollar all say: do not believe, but instead doubt, ask, be an inquisitive and attentive

He is currently one of the most intriguing artists of the young generation. For Fotofestiwal, he curated the main exhibition, which he describes as follows: “Of course the universe is infinite and everything is art. Also, I wish I could have created all the images presented in this exhibition. Instead, I decided to adopt them as if they were all part of my work. All gathered here, these images take on a new meaning, which it is up to you to detect and feel. These images have the colour of the soul, as long as there is one.”

GRAND PRIX FOTOFESTIWAL 2017
Science & friction
Grand Prix is an international contest in which every year we discover new names and inspiring projects, usually presented for the first time in Poland. Thanks to Grand Prix, we know what is interesting and moving for artists and we learn a lot about contemporary trends in photography. Each year, more than 500 of applications are submitted, out of which we select the projects to be presented in the exhibition and the slide show.
An exhibition of works created by a classical master of artistic deception and juggling fiction and reality. For many years, he has been questioning the credibility of photography and the media, provoking and testing our habits and beliefs. The exhibition presents three projects. Herbarium and Constellations will introduce you into the fantastic world of quasi-botany and pseudo-astronomy. Fauna is a seemingly documentary project on research by an unknown biologist, who discovers new animal species. A snake with centipede’s legs and a monkey with a horse’s torso are just examples of what you can find in this bestiary. The exhibition will be accompanied by a walk&talk with the artist (see: timetable).

The winner will be announced on the 1st of June, during the official opening of Fotofestiwal!
MARTIN KOLLAR
Provisional Arrangement / curator: Lydia Dorner, Musée de l'Elysée
Art_Inkubator / Buildings B and C / I floor / Tymienieckiego 3
This Slovak photographer spent a few months travelling around Europe and searching through his own artistic archives in order to present “the transient”. Thanks to it, he finds surprising and poetic details in everyday images. Provisional Arrangement is a cognizant and precisely edited set of documentary photographs. Still, even if you are aware of this, at some point you begin to wonder about the probability of the situations presented. An exhibition produced by the Musée de l’Elysée, Lausanne The exhibition will be accompanied by a walk&talk with the artist, a meeting and a film see: timetable).

---------------------NOOR -- - -BY - -NOOR -------------------------------th 10 anniversary of NOOR curators: Clément Saccomani, Agata Zubrzycka Enthusiasts of documentary photography will surely enjoy it! 10 years is a long time, and NOOR photographers have used it to work in difficult conditions in order to turn the attention of the whole world to the stories that happen every day, but sometimes we fail to notice them. We are excited to present a broad exhibition of photographs by the 13 members of the NOOR photo agency. The exhibition will be accompanied by a meeting with Clément Saccomani (see: timetable).

NOÉMIE GOUDAL Southern Light Stations
Noémie Goudal photographs subtle, but at the same time powerful installations in natural surroundings, thus questioning the idea of landscape and its various perspectives. Simultaneously, she explores the sky and celestial bodies as a recreative space, where the human imagination is unlimited. Questioning the idea of the heavenly sphere, contemplated and sought by people since their very appearance on the Earth, she also presents some timidity and the uncertain physical and spiritual human position.
---------------------KASSEL DUMMY AWARD 2017 EXHIBITIONS OF PHOTOBOOKS Fotobookfestival Kassel and the contest partner Verlag Kettler have again invited photographs to present their yet unpublished photobooks to an international audience and acclaimed experts. The jury selected 49 best books that will be shown in Istanbul, Moscow, Rome, Madrid, Dublin, Aarhus, Sofia, Zagreb and Łódź. The exhibition will be accompanied by a meeting (see: timetable).
The exhibition will be accompanied by a walk&talk with the artist (see: timetable).

BOOKS TO PLAY WITH EXHIBITIONS OF PHOTOBOOKS curator: Franek Ammer Can you imagine a photobook that plays with you or that is a sculpture? Can you imagine a sculpture that is a book, a performance, something that requires you to act? The exhibition presents 8 various examples that invite us to non-standard interaction with a book, related to its form, history, author’s intention or its status as an object-sculpture. The exhibition will be accompanied by a walk&talk with the curator (see: timetable).

EVENTS THE ENERGY OF TIME – 110 YEARS OF THE POWER INDUSTRY IN ŁÓDŹ A music and visual spectacle which will take us to the 1920s and 1930s in Łódź. Magnificent light and sound effects will be a great background for animated photographs from the exceptional Veolia Archive. Thanks to them, we will see the industrial Łódź and the first heat and power plant EC1, as it changed to become an integral element of the urban landscape. All that was scrupulously documented by Wiktor Jekimenko in the priceless collection of over 2000 glass negatives, which are gradually revealed to us. 09.06 / 21.35-23.40 / Schiller's Alley by the Piotrkowska Street
--------------------------------------MENTALGASSI
Invasion of Berlin-based street artists. Huge portraits of Łódź citizens will appear in various unexpected spots at Piotrkowska street. There is no way you will miss them – those gigantic “heads” will fill gates, backyards and all those corners which rarely attract our attention.
KOUDELKA SHOOTING HOLY LAND dir. Gilad Baram, Czech Republic 2016, 72’, Polish premiere The author of the iconic images of the Soviet invasion of Prague in 1968 arrives in Israel and Palestine to embark on a four-year project which will confront him once again with the harsh reality of violence and conflict. The film director follows him on his journey through the Holy Land from one enigmatic and visually spectacular location to another. A dialogue emerges between Baram’s cinematography and Koudelka’s still photographs. 07.06 Wednesday / 19.00 / Art_Inkubator / Tymienieckiego 3 The show is organised in cooperation with:
--------------------------------------ASCENT dir. Fiona Tan, Holland, Netherlands 2016, 80’, Polish premiere The axis of this unique film are 4500 photographs taken in the area of the Fuji volcano within 150 years. 01.06-11.06 / Piotrkowska Street / Art_Inkubator / Tymienieckiego 3 / OFF Piotrkowska / Central store
I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO dir. Raoul Peck, USA 2017, 95’ This year’s Berlinale hit, which received a standing ovation every time it was presented during the famous film festival. A documentary adaptation of an unfinished novel by James Baldwin, one of the most influential African-American writers and thinkers. Using Baldwin’s original words (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson) and a flood of rich archival material (including photographs), Raoul Peck created a radical, up-to-the-minute examination of the issue of race in America. 11.06 Sunday / 19.00 / Art_Inkubator / Tymienieckiego 3
THE PHOTOGRAPHERS BERND AND HILLA BECHER dir. Marianne Kapfer, Germany 2011, 94’ + meeting with the director This is going to be an extraordinary show. In the great Planetarium located in the renovated EC1 heat and power plant, we will see the works by Bernd and Hilla Becher, who spent a few decades photographing industrial architecture around the world. They did it to save those buildings from falling into oblivion, but eventually they have also managed to set the reference point for the next generations of industrial architecture photographers. The film show is organised in cooperation with the National Centre for Film Culture. 09.06 Friday / 20.00 Show in the EC1 Planetarium Targowa 1/3
