SHOWCASING THE UNSEEN AND UNTOLD
EDITORIAL Fotomgz India was established with an aspiration of capturing the untold and unseen stories through the lens. Our Zeal as photographers when creating a creative collection is not to manifest a quintessential design or to materialize only the Award-Winning Creations. It is to portray their Story and to concoct an Impact that they will love. "For me, every photograph is a portrait; the clothes are just a vehicle for what I want to say. You're photographing a relationship with the person you're shooting; there's an exchange, and that's what that picture is." - Peter Lindbergh From times immemorial, portraits have been used for more than just keeping record. They have been used to show power, importance, virtue, beauty, wealth, taste, learning or other qualities of the subject. Since then, the art of capturing faces have come a long way. It takes just a moment in time to capture a face on the film. The lines on the faces trace back to the past experiences, the raw emotions and so many narratives. Eyes that hold embers amidst the swell of oceans, speaking the language of the soul. The freckles like the galaxy of stars, waiting to be explored. The magic that lies between the contours of jawlines and cheekbones and the secrets hidden in the strands of hair. The sunshine smiles and the raindrops on golden hair all depict beauty in its eminence. Overall this issue is replete with amazing portraiture that will leave you in awe and admiration, looking for untold stories in the masks that people wear. For the deep furrows on the face are a remembrance of events that transpired during a lifetime. How tears sometimes flowed parallel to the lines of happiness. Etched on the face and the forehead is a sanctuary of bygone eras. The face tells it all. Gaurav Lal Editor editor@fotomgzindia.org www.fotomgzindia.org

THE DSLR MEGASTAR
CANON EOS 77D
The 77D is a Rebel T7i in fancy clothes. How big are the odds with this marvel middle child? BY ROHITDUTT PUJARI
The Canon EOS 77D is a compact and affordable DSLR camera with many capabilities. It has the convenience and dimensions of a starter model like the Canon EOS 800D and the options of the EOS 80D, which makes it an ideal camera for both beginners and slightly more advanced photographers.
THE DSLR MEGASTAR
Features Just like EOS 80D that’s positioned above it in Canon’s aficionado line-up, the EOS 77D is equipped with a 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor and the latest Digic 7 processor. The sensor support Canon’s Dual Pixel AF technology that promises noticeably faster focus acquisition in live view. Introduced with the 77D and 800D is a new Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens, an ultra-compact kit lens, that Canon says is the World's smallest non-retractable kit lens. The lens offers up to 4-stops of Image Stabilisation (IS), with improved optics, and a size that is just 61.8mm long. When used with the new lens, the camera offers the World's fastest focus for APS-C ILC cameras at 0.03s (when using the viewfinder). The 77D has an LCD on top of the camera, on which you can see all the important settings. The 77D also has two rotary knobs that make it easier to set your exposure. The 77D also has an extra AF-on button, so you can disconnect the autofocus from the shutter release button. The touch focus works well and operating the menus via the touchscreen is also nice. Thanks to the turning and tilting screen, you can also easily take photos from very high or low perspectives. Some of the notable improvements however lie in the firmware.
The Canon 77D has another astonishing feature called 'Guided Mode', which can be enabled for the shooting screen, menus, and the mode guide. This gives you a visual representation of what you can expect from shots based on which way you adjust the slider. So, for instance, say you're shooting in aperture priority mode, the graphical representation on the screen shows you what sort of effect you can expect by decreasing or increasing the aperture. This encourages you to use the touchscreen, by making the icons larger and easier to use. Hitting the 'Q' button at the back gives you quick access to toggles including white balance, drive mode, picture size, metering, type of focus, etc. You can either use the touchscreen or either of the two dials to manipulate the settings. The Creative Filters option on the mode dial lets you add effects such as soft focus, fish-eye, etc to your photos. You even get special filters for video like a film-grain effect, miniature, black and white, and more. The Custom Functions option in the menu lets you access features like the expanded ISO mode, adjust the level of exposure increments (one-third or half); toggle the state of the AF assist beam; and more. This is a fantastic innovation from Canon.
CANON EOS 77D

THE DSLR MEGASTAR
Handling The Canon 77D is astonishingly cool, and even after using it for fortnight days, I continued to marvel at this innovation. Significantly, there are some design changes that do facilitate the photographic process. There are two control wheels on the camera, with one on top, and a scroll wheel on the back, which can be locked. This makes it quick and easy to change the aperture and shutter when in manual mode. The screen looks good and using the touch-screen to change settings is easy, and the screen is very responsive to touch. Viewing angles are good, with a gapless screen, and being able to tilt the screen can make it easier to see what you are shooting. We may have liked to have seen something a bit larger, and/or with more resolution, but there’s no quibbling about its functionality. It's nicely integrated into the camera’s interface, works really well and is one of the most polished examples we've seen. The LCD display provides a quick reference point for a host of key shooting info – ISO setting, aperture and shutter speed, exposure compensation, battery level, Wi-Fi activation and shots remaining. In front of this display are dedicated controls for ISO and AF, as well as a button to illuminate the LCD in poor light.
The positioning of the LCD display means the mode dial moves to the left of the viewfinder, and it features a locking mechanism; you’ll need to press and hold the central button to spin the mode dial round to the desired setting. Moving round the back, there's a dedicated AF-On button for back-button focusing, which can be really handy if you regularly shoot using continuous focusing. The EOS 77D features a multi-directional control pad encircled by a scroll wheel; this mirrors some higher-end EOS DSLRs, enabling you to quickly toggle key settings, and it's handy when the camera is raised to your eye. Although the EOS 77D’s handgrip isn’t the largest, it happily accommodates average-sized hands and lets you grip the body without feeling as if your little finger is about to drop off the end. There are now 45 focus points (with 49 available in live-view), and these can be viewed in the optical viewfinder when shooting, or on the rear screen when using live view. You can even switch on display of focus points in playback mode so that you can confirm you focused on the desired point(s). In live-view, the focus area covers a large area of the image, and there is no penalty in focus speeds. The optical viewfinder, whilst not the largest, features dioptre correction, and there is a soft rubber surround, making it comfortable to use both with or without glasses. There's an eye-detection sensor above the viewfinder so that the camera will know when you're holding it up to your eye, and this means the camera will automatically switch off the screen when needed. While it might not seem that much of a difference, you’ll be surprised at how unwanted elements can encroach on the edges of the frame when you review your images.
CANON EOS 77D
PAGE 32
THE DSLR MEGASTAR
Performance The EOS 77D can rattle off shots at 6fps – we'd have liked to have seen this number improved to match mirrorless rivals like the Lumix G80 / G85, which is capable of 9fps. Battery life is good, at 600 shots, although you'll want to keep a spare handy if you plan to shoot predominantly with the rear display activated, as this will see battery life drop to 270 shots. Also, like the T7i / 800D, the EOS 77D takes advantages of Canon's new clean-looking graphical interface, which is designed to help inexperienced users get to grips with some of the camera's key controls. The EOS 77D sports Canon’s tried-and-tested 7560-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor, which we’ve seen in numerous Canon DSLRs (it’s also in the EOS Rebel T7i / 800D), with 63-zone Evaluative, Partial, Centre-weighted and Spot metering options. For the most part the evaluative mode will be the one you’ll be using, and it does a good job. As we’ve found with other EOS cameras though because the system is weighted to the active AF point you can run into issues in high-contrast situations, as simply shifting the AF point can throw up two different exposures.
The white balance system performs very well, while the option of an Ambient Auto White Balance mode has its uses, delivering slightly warmer results that can be welcome, while White Priority can deliver clean, neutral results even in artificial lighting. The EOS 77D uses Canon's new 24MP APS-C CMOS sensor, and as we’ve seen with the T7i / 800D this performs very well. Resolution is pretty much identical to the results from the T6s / 760D – which is hardly a surprise when you consider that they share the same pixel count – but it’s elsewhere that the new sensor design shines, particularly the way the camera handles noise. The EOS 77D delivers pleasing JPEG colours. If you want to give your JPEGs a little more 'bite', opt for one of the Picture Styles, or shoot raw for complete control. In daylight, the 77D does a good job of capturing accurate colours and good detail. There is very mild chromatic aberration in some scenes, but it's mostly kept in check. The Creative filters are where you can really have some fun. 'HDR art standard' combines three consecutive exposures to give you an HDR photo, while 'HDR art bold' boosts colours to give you an oil painting effect. 'Grainy B/W' is another effect which we found quite useful. There are similar effects for videos too, which add a fun element to shooting. Burst mode works well although 6fps isn't ideal for fast-moving animals or birds. The camera's high ISO prowess can be seen in low-light shots. The 77D has good video capabilities thanks to the Dual Pixel AF system.
CANON EOS 77D
PAGE 33
THE DSLR MEGASTAR
Conclusion The Canon EOS 77D is a solid, if rather uninspiring, addition to the extensive EOS range of DSLR cameras, essentially combining some of the key features of the higher-end EOS 80D with the body and control layout of the cheaper EOS 800D. The rotating thumb wheel at the rear, dedicated AF-ON button, LCD screen on the top plate and automatic eye sensor are factors that suggest the EOS 77D will appeal to more advanced photographers who are possibly looking for finer control than you’d get from an entry-level model. That said, it’s well geared up for newcomers to a DSLR, too.
We'd suggest paying the slight price premium for the 77D, rather than choosing the EOS 800D, principally because the former has dual control wheels and a top-screen LCD, but we'd also then strongly suggest considering the EOS 80D instead of the 77D (especially if you can find it on sale), as that camera additionally offers weather-proofing, a better viewfinder, longer battery life, faster shutter and flash sync speeds, and a headphone jack, although the 80D is heavier, uses the slower DIGIC 6 processor, and doesn't have Bluetooth connectivity. New additions like the guided mode and Dual Pixel autofocus are great to have, but we also wish that this camera supported more current-day features like 4K video recording and maybe finer controls over the ISO level. It ticks the right boxes and is a great option in Canon’s enthusiasts’ DSLR line-up.

While painting the wall for individuals was not the arduous task at the first step, but Dedeepya was dreaming to bring a different gaze to those homes. She reached out to professional mural artists, where artists from all over the country granted and contributed their art in making slum homes more evocative. Every portion of those beautiful arts flourishes the colourful messages or some reflections of their own life.
Similar to all slums of Mumbai, Asalpha was a kind of grubby and pale. This slum occupies the human population of 10 million people which is approx half of the total city's population. While travelling in metro, Dedeepya always imagined to refashion this slum, which would rather be a change for mankind. A writer is a person who uses written words in various styles and techniques to communicate their ideas. We love to read a good book or a well written article/ blog but when it comes to writing we have an array of misconceptions regarding the profession. The literary arts are a very nuanced and intricate form of art, they require study and practice to be fully understood.
