Core Values I believe that core values are the very fiber that makes us who we are. Sadly, I believe most are unaware of their values. Have you ever had some ask you before? Probably not. I know that once you can really nail down your core values, so that you can recite them in your head, your life will chance. These values help you understand your uniqueness, help you make decisions and guide your relationships. Personal core values should encourage you to fulfill your purpose in life. Values provide the measures that help us live meaningful lives that fulfill our given purpose. At any time we can decide what values are most important and focus on bring them into our lives. Your core values are not likely to change in the course of your life, but you may find that you prioritize them differently at different times, like when you get married and have kids – Family may be at the top of your list. When you were single Achievement might have been higher. Think of you values as your GPS to the next destination in your life.

Core Value Exercise I highly recommend before you start this exercise you spend some time getting quiet, meditation or journaling. This works best when you don’t sensor yourself and just go with you intuition. 1.
From the list below circle 20 words that jump out to you. *add any word that you strongly feel is missing from the list

On a blank piece of paper write out those 20 words, study them, think about what each one means to you. From your list, pick Top 10 words, write them on a new piece of paper, study them again. From your list, pick Top 5 words, write them on a new piece of paper with a description of what they mean to you.

Values Commitment Now is when the really important things happen! Ask yourself, “How does my current life, work and relationships reflect my core values?” Need to think about that for a while? I know I did, it is a very big question with huge impact to your life. Don’t worry MANY people find that their values and life are not in alignment. Now is definitely the time to take some small steps to close that gap.

Align Your Core Values Now that you know your core values, start putting them into practice immediately and start aligning yourself with any new values. An example of how easy it is to do this could be the value of Hard-working. If you’ve previously been lazy and not too bothered about your quality of work, start telling yourself that you are hard working and care about your work and take actions that show this. The more you do this the more hard working you will become and the more your new core value is imprinted in your mind. You still have that piece of paper with your Top 5 Core Values? Great, let’s pull it out again. Under the description of your value, write what it means to LIVE this value.
