Let Go Tom I once heard of a boy “Tom” who had this precious coin he carried around. It was a gold coin. One afternoon, he was playing at the centre table of the dining room and mistakenly threw the coin in a little flower vase. With the terror of losing the coin, he dipped his tiny palms into the vase and found the coin at the base. With a sigh of relief and the fear of not losing it a second time, he held the coin tightly in his fist. Up! Up!! He tried to force his close fist out of the vase, but the neck was too narrow. He tried over and over but the coin won’t come out. Out of panic, he let out a scream. The father who happened to be watching his son’s struggle decided to help but the son held the fist
so tightly. “Daddy, my coin,” he cried. The father replied. You need to let go first. As children hold so tightly to their broken toys and favourites with tears longing for help and hoping their parents will mend, we bring our broken dreams to God, but then, instead of leaving Him, in peace, to work alone; we hung around and tried to help, with ways that are our own. We snatch it back and cry, Lord, you aren’t helping. "How can you be so slow?" It’s ending. "My child," He would say, "What can I do? God is saying, “Let Go” to all the Tom’s in our generations.
