PASTOR’S THOUGHTS SENIOR PASTOR SAM VALVERDE
FREEZE!
d
FREEZE! The other day my Grandsons Sammy D., Zachary and I were playing the “freeze” game. While my wife and Sam Jr. were paying the Coco’s dinner bill, we were on the curb playing freeze. The object of the game is to train the children to hear and immediately obey the voice of an adult. When, for example, a child is running too close to the street, or if there is danger of an oncoming car, the parent yells “freeze!” The boys learn to block out every other noise, sound and voice and listen only to, in this case, my voice. Sammy D has perfected the “freeze”; Zachary still totters a little, but he’s getting the idea. I wonder if during this Christmas season we can freeze out all of the holiday clatter, blinking lights and Santa’s songs and hear the voice of the Father. Freeze! Listen! I came to save the lost! Freeze! Stop! All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Freeze! Danger! What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul! This month let us focus on the greatest gift that has ever been given to anyone, anywhere. God gave his only begotten son to a lost and condemned humanity - that whoever believes in him, shall not perish, but have ever lasting life. (John 3:16) Sermon Series: SALVATION, GOD’S GREATEST GIFT “Saved from what?” “Born again, what is that?” “The birth, the death, the cross…what does that really mean? What does it have to do with me? People are busy with work, mortgages, kids, bills…there’s hardly time to breath. In the midst of that, the church must present the Gospel to people who live hectic lives and really don’t have time for, or don’t think they need, God. December is a great time to share how our story was impacted by His-story so that their story can be changed. That’s what it’s all about. Let’s celebrate the season by applying the reason.
EVENTS
FROM OUR 1S T LADY
It’s been a wonderful season thus far! Fountain of Truth has adopted 200 homes in the middle of Fontana and on Saturday, November 15, a group of young people delivered an introductory gift from FTC! Let’s start interceding for these families! A special thank you for Genaro Gonzalez who made the beautiful video of our trip to Guatemala. The vision for Guatemala is to empower the children to succeed and the mission is for Fountain of Truth to be one of those vehicles as we adopt this beautiful country. Special envelopes will be available every Sunday for your monthly donation. Your donation will travel hundreds of miles every month. A BIG ‘God Bless You Greatly’ to the many who donated clothes, shoes and jackets for the needy. I am forever grateful to Lupita Nunez and Isela Friedman and their teams for their work on the donations. TOYS are needed for the 20th of December. We are in partnership with various other organizations in a toy drive. Please donate new toys in the large decorated box in the lobby. Thank you! 2014 has been a year of tremendous growth for me. First, I am grateful to the Lord for my 57th birthday. I remember my doctor telling me in 2002, “If you make it to 55 without a recurrence of the cancer consider yourself lucky”, well I am now 57 and I am doing good! God is so faithful and I am blessed! Secondly, I have had to stretch my outlook and my heart as I started to work for the community. My vision has been broadened and enlightened. I am challenged by the younger generations like Maria Fernanda and the broader vision of Steve Chaparro and Elena Ojeda. I am thankful. This Christmas and as 2014 comes to a close, I hold dear to my heart my three grandchildren, Samuel David, Zachary Levi and Madelyn Grace who have been a shining light when the darkness wants to peek in and for their unconditional love in my life. For them I am eternally grateful. God bless,
Raquel Valverde
PASTOR’S THOUGHTS
I invite you to invite your friends to come and hear the greatest story ever told! Sunday, December 7, 2014 WHAT HE DIDN’T COME TO DO (GOD FOR US) Jesus came to do a lot of things. He came to save, seek, heal, lift up and give. The list is endless. However, there are two important things that he came not to do. Isaiah announces the coming “child born and son given”; he declares that that Emmanuel would visit us. However, this same prophet tells us those two important things the Messiah came NOT to do. This message will minister to those who are in need of Christ’s comfort. Find a hurting friend and bring him or her. Sunday, December 14, 2014 EMMANUEL! (GOD WITH US) What comfort, what peace to know that God is with us! This is especially true when are lives go through storms and valleys. Let’s face it, life is not fair. At times we experience things we don’t expect or even deserve. At those precise moments (that seem like an eternity), we know God is with us. Sunday, December 21, 2014 PORTRAITS OF THE CHRISTMAS STORY (GOD AROUND US) This sermon will walk us through the Christmas museum and invite us to apply principles from 4 event leading up to and after the birth of Christ. We will visit an innkeeper who has no room for the Christ, a king who wants to kill the Christ and some strangers who decided to worship the Christ. Sunday, December 28, 2014 THE HOPE OF GLORY! (GOD IN US) The presents have been opened, the turkeys (and tamales) consumed, the trees brought down - but the reason remains! On this Sunday we will close the year asking God for an old fashioned Holy Ghost revival. Bring your family, let us pray the Lord will baptize us all with the fullness of his Spirit! Freeze! Let’s focus on the important, not the urgent.
