PASTOR’S THOUGHTS
SENIOR PASTOR SAMUEL VALVERDE
“…Break up the fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.” Hosea 10:12b When a farmer toils the ground year after year, something interesting happens. Although the ground continues to bear fruit, the strength of the fruit may begin to weaken. The reason is that as the farmer plows and re-plows the land, a hardened under table begins to form at the same length of the plow. For example, if the plow blade is 20 inches long, the earth is turned over only at a 20 inch depth. Underneath, the earth hardens and does not allow the rich nutrients to surface from greater depths. This is called the fallow ground. As a pastor I understand that many church members have a heart similar to the fallow ground. They attend Sunday services, bring their kids to Sunday school, they may even serve in a ministry and enjoy fellowship with a network of friends composed of other church members. When the number of members in this condition multiplies, the church begins to look like those fertile but useless fields. Those people can feel safe and satisfied in that situation, because in a way they are doing more right than wrong, plowing back and forth over the years, but failing to deepen their relationship experience and produce not just church activity but Kingdom fruit. It is time to break the fallow ground! It is time to change blades! We need our hearts to be cultivated and our hearts challenged. “Going to church”, “attending an event”, and just being nice are not enough anymore! Ask yourself: What fruit am I producing? Am I more into maintenance of church matters, or is my ministry making a difference? Am I willing to lose my life in order to gain it? FTC, the time has come! The fields are white unto harvest; let us pray for the Lord of the harvest to send laborers! Respectfully,

“YOUTH MINISTRIES GET REAL” You’ve read the reports about teenagers leaving the faith in droves. Despite the blood, sweat and tears of many youth pastors, a study from Britt Beemer, a former senior research analyst for the Heritage Foundation, reveals a disturbing trend: As many as two-thirds of young people in evangelical churches will leave when they enter their 20s. These and other studies sounded an alarm in the body of Christ—and a new breed of youth ministries is rising to the occasion to stop the enemy from stealing, killing and destroying not only church kids but also unchurched kids in need of a Savior.
