PASTOR’S THOUGHTS

SWAG - JUNIOR HIGH MINISTRY

SENIOR PASTOR SAM VALVERDE

TIME TO WORK “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day...” John 9:4a Work. Many would say - ugh, what a curse! However, in the beginning when the earth produced thorns and thistles, man was given the blessing of work. Work in the natural is a blessing. Work in the spiritual is not only a blessing, it is a mandate. Jesus stated that he had to work the works of God; Paul warns that “every man’s work shall be made manifest” (I Cor. 3:13) and instructs us to be “always abounding in the work of the Lord....[knowing] that our work is not in vain” (I 15:58) This month we will focus on two things: 1) the importance of being diligent and 2) the wisdom in understanding seasons. God is not slothful; he worked six days and rested on the seventh. The Gospels are full of accounts describing the works of Jesus and John (9:4) records him saying “I must work the works of him that sent me.” A father trains up his children, feeds and clothes them, until they come into their season of work. There is nothing more disheartening to a father than to endure the foolish slothfulness of son come-of-age who does not want to study or work. “He that gathereth in summer is a wise son; but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.” (Proverbs 10:5) We will also learn deep lessons from Joseph’s plan of storing up during times of plenty in order to have during times of want. Wisdom is discerning between things - understanding different seasons, times, opportunities and even moments. Oh, that Christians would understand that Kingdom work is just that, work that is mostly accomplished by being directly connected to the work of the local church! July 6, 2014 – The Wonderful Work of Christ Sometimes we forget that although our salvation is free, it costs something. The work of Christ includes the purchasing of souls to form (build) a church. God is not ignorant when it comes to business; he invented it and will receive a great return for his work. This message will help us regain the “wonder of it all.” July 13, 2014 - The Power of Sustainability Proverbs 6:6 says, “Go to the ant, thou sluggard; and consider her ways and be wise.” The ant is a tiny creature that most of us simply bypass and never stop to consider her ways. The ant speaks volumes on possessing good character traits and it teaches us how to have sustainability. The question to ask ourselves, do we have sustainability? The ant’s example for us is to labor and serve in the kingdom of God.

PASTOR’S THOUGHTS FROM OUR 1ST LADY Happy Summer Everyone! I would like to congratulate Maria Fernanda Torres for getting bill SB 1252 which is to reduce homelessness among former foster youth by providing safe, affordable housing and supportive servces for 24 months to former foster youth, ages 18 to 24 through the state senate. She worked very hard and she did this while studying for her masters, working full time and ministering. Great Job Maria Fernanda! I would like to share some facts from our community: · Over 119,000 children in the Inland Empire live in poverty and are at risk of going to bed hungry. 2010 County Nutrition and Food Insecurity Profile · 241,000 adults in San Bernardino County could not afford to put adequate food on the table during the recent recession of the past years. 2012 policy brief by the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research. · San Bernardino County was graded a “D” and Los Angeles County received a “C” when looking at economic opportunity and mobility. Opportunity Nation’s 2012 Opportunity Index Report · Educational attainment rates in the Inland Empire at 39% lower than the states average. 2012 Opportunity Nation Education Report · When compared to the other top five metro areas in California, the Inland Empire ranks dead last in the areas of education, health and income. California Human Development Report 2011 The bible says: “All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do.” Galatians 2:10 At Fountain of Truth, we take this commandment seriously and more so this year as we strive to do our part in our surrounding communities. For that reason, FTC has partnered with Inland Empire United Way in supplying “Kids Packs” to children. The need is for 16,483 homeless children in our region still needing Kids Packs. Be a part of this impacting project! Be alert in July for more information.
