PASTOR’S THOUGHTS

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

SENIOR PASTOR SAM VALVERDE

A TIME TO SERVE “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven…” Ecclesiastes 3:1 The third chapter of the book of Ecclesiastes draws contrast between time and action. A time to be born, and to die; Time to plant and pluck; kill and heal; break and build; weep and laugh; a time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones. In that line of thought we can insert that there is also a time to serve. Jesus’ insisted that to be great in his Kingdom, one must serve. Serving forces us to forget about our self and need and focus on others. After all, “brothers” is just “others” with a ‘b’ in front of it. As we draw close to the end of 2013, it is a good time to ask ourselves where we have served. What part of our day, week or month is reserved for others? Whether our service is given to church events, or it involves driving a homeless person to the doctor, where have I served? I encourage you to invest yourself this last quarter of 2013 and make a difference by serving!

Join us on Sunday, October 6 as we honor and bless the Santos family for 9 years of service at FTC as they start their new journey as the Pastoral family of the Apostolic Church in Portland, OR. Dismissal will be done in all 3 services.

OCTOBER SERMON SERIES October’s sermon series entitled “What Shall We Do” will focus on the essentials of salvation. Thousands upon thousands of people, who regularly attend church services, serve on committees, return their tithes and give to charities, may want to consult the scriptures to make sure they are saved. Will I be saved if I do no wrong? I don’t “drink, smoke or dance,” am I saved? Am I saved if I attend church regularly? What if I prayed the sinner’s prayer? I was brought up by Christian parents who instilled good values in me, am I saved? I was baptized, am I saved? The truth is that we are either saved or not saved. We will either be sent to the left or to the right, enter or not enter heaven. These and other questions will be answered in the following messages: Sunday, October 6, 2013 – HIS STORY Beginning at John 3:16, this message will display the 4 steps in God’s story that bring salvation. It will answer the questions: “What is salvation?, “Salvation from What? and “Why do I need salvation?

The next Baby Dedication will be on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 10am. If you want more information or you would like to participate, please call the church office at (909) 822-5450 before October 13th.

PASTOR’S THOUGHTS / 7 DAY FAST Sunday, October 13, 2013 – ESSENTIAL FOR SALVATION: REPENTANCE What is repentance? What is conversion? Why must I die? Is my baptism valid without repentance? Using the story of the Prodigal Son, this message will take us from the pig sty to the Father’s banquet halls. Sunday, October 20, 2013 IN THE NAME OF JESUS This message will mark the distinctions between the baptisms of John, Jesus’ commandment given in Matthew 28:19 and the apostle’s practices with regards to baptism in the New Testament. Using a unique scriptural occurrence, it will also address the issue of “re-baptism”. Sunday, October 27, 2013 – DYNAMIS! Jesus stated to his followers that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came over them. What is this power and what is its purpose? Can Christians really be endued with Christ’s resurrection power today? Why would God promise this power to us and to our children? In preparation for this series, I encourage you to read the entire book of Acts (Its 28 chapters can be read in less than an hour). Below is a passage that will whet your appetite. Pay careful attention to what is happening on this holiday know as the Day of Pentecost; identify the questions and study the answers. We pick up where Peter is about to finish his message to the thousands who surrounded the upper room that morning… Read: ACTS 2:36-47 God bless you,

Pastor Sam Valverde
