Whether you are currently in ministry (usher, Sunday School teacher, musician) or interested in being part of ministry, these sessions are for you. At 9:30am, join us for CORPORATE PRAYER as we usher in God’s presence through united prayer and prepare the atmosphere for our 10am service.
PASTOR’S THOUGHTS SENIOR PASTOR SAM VALVERDE
BENEFITS OF BEING A CARNAL CHRISTIAN
T
hink about it. Carnal Christians have it made. They get away with having an exterior imagery of Christianity – they attend church services quite regularly, they sometimes carry a Bible and speak the right words, especially on Sundays. They know the “right” people and speak the “right” language. From the world’s perspective, (work and school friends and acquaintances) they are Christian. From the church family perspective, well… it seems they’re always there and are not getting drunk on the weekends. Look at the benefits of being a carnal Christian: • No accountability. They come and go as they please without having anyone to give account. • No commitment. They don’t have to be anywhere at any time they don’t want to. • The Devil will never attack them with spiritual pride or accuse them of trying to be too holy. • They pretty much are their own authority. They give themselves permission to do what they will. • They know everyone at conventions, are pretty friendly with others of like lukewarm status and are glad to see everyone, and they don’t have to sit through boring sermons or travail at the altars –it’s all fun for them! • They can hum 50 out of the 110 Lorenzo Salazar songs their Grandma used to sing while making albondigas. • Since they are not really disciples, they don’t have to mess with Christ’s bothersome “deny self”, “take up cross” and “follow me” details. • In fact, the cross is a good part-time companion, looks great on Easter, good on Sundays… CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE....
PASTOR’S THOUGHTS ..... CONTINUED
PASTOR’S THOUGHTS.... CONTINUED • Fasting, praying chains, early-morning prayer, tithing and all that consecration stuff is something they don’t have to deal with. • Obedience is optional; submission is a preference and responsibility a choice. • They somehow know all of the juicy gossip going on not only at FTC, but throughout the Assembly. • They don’t have to belong or attend a Life Group…too busy, need to rest, too much work; the subscribe to the “can’t right now and don’t when I will be able to” philosophy. • They still pray to God when sick, unemployed or family problems arise. Like one of my nephews says... “Must be nice!” If only Romans 8:6-8 could be deleted from God’s word: “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.” If only we could exercise Hebrews 7:17 from the Bible: “Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.” If only Galatians 6:7, 8 could be erased. If only… “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption...” Sadly,
Pastor Sam Valverde
