PASTOR’S THOUGHTS SENIOR PASTOR SAM VALVERDE

A HEART-FELT THANK YOU! “…By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true; As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed; As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.” Romans 6:8-10 My wife Raquel and I along with our entire family express our most sincere appreciation for your acts of kindness shown towards last on our 30th Anniversary. We enjoyed the cards and letters – some made us reflect, others made us cry and some made us double over with laughter. Thank you too for your beautiful words. 30 years ago a 27-year old and his 26 year old wife arrived with huge dreams and big plans. Ever since I was a child I knew that I was going to – we called it – “be a pastor.” In my mind I was going to be a doctor and a pastor, but that’s another story. During our courtship and during the early part of our marriage, Raquel and I would talk about how we would run a church, even what songs would be sung at baptism ceremonies. We were full of dreams, innocent, crazy dreams. We were finally given the privilege to serve and on a hot July Sunday we were installed at the old Slover Ave. church. Our shepherding journey began with about 80 members. It seems that we dove into the work and did not look up for about 10 years. Life is full of good memories but it is also sprinkled with regrets. We hold dear many great memories of the thousands of people who have passed through FTC. One regret I have is that at times I neglected my children, but they made the proper adjustments through their elementary and high school years Three decades is a long time; Raquel and I have spent more than one half of our lives serving this church community. Thank you for making the journey with us - some have joined us just recently and others have travelled this road for many, many years. We have worshipped, prayed, fasted and sought God together. We have laughed and wept together, crossed valleys and climbed steep mountains, and God has always been with us. I have had the privilege of dedicating your babies, baptized and married your children and buried your loved ones. Thank you for overlooking our errors, for forgiving our mistakes and for being patient with us. We thank God for the strength and ability he has given us through the years. Although we continue to feel God’s strength and hope to serve at least another decade, we realize that we have turned the corner and our ministry here at FTC has entered another dimension. Indeed, the best is yet to come! We pledge to continue to serve with the same passion and joy with which we began 30 years ago. I’m blessed to have faithful wife and partner without which none of what we see today would have been possible. I’m also grateful that my three children and now their spouses are involved in Kingdom work here at FTC. My prayer is that one day my grandchildren - Sammy D, Zachary, Madelynn Grace and all who will come later - will take up the torch and continue the work their great-grand parents began more than 70 years ago.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT Join us for a SPECIAL BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT for our Generation SWAG Students on Friday, September 5th @ 7:00pm in the sanctuary. It will be a powerful night filled with God’s Amazing Grace, surprises & a VIP pizza party. SEPTEMBER PREACHING SERIES - THE JOY OF THE HARVEST FROM OUR 1ST LADY RACHEL VALVERDE

Dear Ladies, As your husbands enjoy camp, please come out to a glorious women’s service on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. The theme is:

“From Glory to Glory”

“However, as it is written: No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.” I Cor. 2:9 We invite you to come and renew your heart and spirit as you are ministered to by God’s spirit. Invite a friend. It’s gonna be awesome! God Bless you!

Raquel Valverde

1ST Lady of Fountain of Truth Church

“You will enlarge the nation of Israel, and its people will rejoice. They will rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest and like warriors dividing the plunder.” Isaiah 9:3 NLT The fisherman forgets the pain of his toil and the hours of waiting when he pulls in the bulging nets. Rejoice, it is harvest time! The farmer no longer remembers the sweltering heat under which he plowed and planted, when he’s gleaning stocks of corn and calculating invoices for his buyers. The vineyard owner forgets the hard labor of delicate pruning and trimming and fighting disease, insect and cold nights, when his family and friends crush the grapes in the vats. In like manner, when the church works while it is day, it will also rejoice in the harvest. Repented hearts, transformed lives, baptized souls, hearts filled with the Holy Ghost and new converts are a reason to rejoice. The harvest is come, rejoice! We will revisit Peter’s catches, both nets, one filled with fish and then other with men. September 7, 2014 - “Work, then Rejoice” (Galatians 6) ...And in that order! We must clear up a common church misunderstanding. Salvation by grace is free (for us, it cost Jesus his life) however, Kingdom work requires that each man prove his own work. Then comes the blessings! This message will describe the overwhelming satisfaction that comes with laboring with Him! September 14, 2014 - “Nets and Ships” (Luke 5) One single letter made would have made a world of difference, yet Peter missed it! This message will encourage the church to launch into the deep, to be conscious of every “jot and tittle” that proceeds from God’s mouth and to prepare to enjoy a great harvest! September 21, 2014 - “God will...” (Pastor Tim Valverde) There’s security in the statement God will. Knowing that “God will” - gives us permission to advance the gospel with reckless abandonment. It takes the desire of a warrior dividing the plunder of his victory. When we function knowing “God will” we activate the promise He gave Abraham in the book of Genesis. “I will multiply your descendants as the sands of the seashore.” (Gen. 22:17) This weekend we’ll rejoice because “God will”. September 28, 2014 - “Rejoice, We Will be Rewarded!” (I Corinthians 5) This message will remind the church about something the church seems to forget. We will be rewarded for our labor in the Kingdom! Are you building upon gold, silver and precious stones, or is your foundation made of wood, hay and stubble? Paul’s message to the Corinthian church is that we will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ to be rewarded according to our works. God bless you,

Pastor Sam Valverde
