Millionaire Luxury Limited Edition Another “First” for Visconti in the History of Writing Only 988 pens are available in each Marble The name Visconti is synonymous with luxury, as this Florentine penmaker continues to create pens that are matchless in terms of their materials and accessories. For over 3,000 years, from the splendid buildings of ancient Greece, through the glory of the Roman Empire and the Renaissance, down to the lobbies of the world’s leading hotels, Marble has been used as a decorative element symbolizing pure beauty and elegant functionality. Before now, Marble had never been used to make writing instruments by reason of the difficulties inherent in working with it and of its intrinsic fragility. With the assistance of the skilled artisans with whom it has the privilege to work, Visconti has succeeded in grinding marble to an infinitesimal thickness and at the same time it has brilliantly resolved the problem of the material’s fragility, thanks to the advanced technology developed in its workshop. For Marble to be used in the manufacture of a pen, it cannot have any cracks, be structurally sound, and its marbling must be patterned in such a way as to ensure that the pen enjoys uniformity.

Painstakingly, the marble is sawn into square bars, then hollowed out internally, reinforced, turned on the lathe to the required size and finally polished. Thicknesses are calculated to ensure that the pen’s final weight is correct and that it conforms to standards of comfort for daily use.

Visconti has chosen four types of marble whose specifications are best suited to the manufacture of pens: Portoro Black; Issoire Green from the Alps; Valencia Cream; and Rain Forest Brown.

The pen ships as a fountain pen and the packaging is equipped with the convertible nosecone and refill to convert the pen to a rollerball. The pens are accented in palladium plate or gold plate depending on the marble selected. Each pen is enhanced with a 23kt Palladium Dreamtouch nib, available in M, F, XF, B, or 1.3mm Stub widths. From 1920 to 1933, Prohibition was a national ban on the sale, production, importation, and transportation of alcoholic beverages. This movement was promoted by conservative groups and other organizations in an attempt to control a variety of perceived social evils such as alcoholism, drug abuse, and gambling. During this era, Speakeasies became a prominent symbol of American culture.

Often run by organized crime groups, these secret establishments provided a location for patrons to indulge. To enter, Speakeasies often had a hidden location, passwords, or a special knock.

To commemorate this pivotal period in American history, Visconti has created the Limited Edition Speakeasy. The pen, in polychrome celluloid, has a sanitized container inside it that holds a shot of its owner’s favorite liquor. An ingenious rotating mechanism in the section allows the user to rotate a window, which states the type of liquor held in the pen. The fountain pen features a 23kt Palladium nib in M, F, XF, B, BB, and 1.3mm stub. Cartridge fill only. The packaging includes a matching hip flask. Limited to 1,000 fountain pens.

Saturno Collection

VISCONTI

Visconti pays tribute to the second largest planet in our solar system, Saturn. This giant planet has an average radius that is nine times that of Earth and is the sixth planet from our sun. Saturn is named after the Roman god of agriculture and is best known for its prominent ring system that was discovered in 1610 by the Italian astronomer Galileo.

Sixty-two moons are known to orbit Saturn, of which 53 are officially named. Titan, Saturn’s largest moon, and the second largest in the Solar System, is larger than the planet Mercury. The Visconti Saturno collection consists of four pens, each turned from marbleized resin and named after Saturn’s four largest moons. The pen’s central band and grip section are each adorned with three enameled rings, reminiscent of the rings around Saturn. The Visconti name written across the pen clip is also enameled in the same color as the rings. The Saturno collection is designed for daily use. The fountain pen is enhanced with Visconti’s 23kt Dreamtouch Palladium nib, available in M, F, XF, B, BB, and 1.3mm Stub widths. The fountain fills via the luxury Visconti converter included with each pen. The collection is completed with a matching rollerball.

Opera Metal Collection

The Visconti Opera is one of Visconti’s most iconic collections. The Opera’s squared circle form, combining a square and a circle, is the perfect ergonomic shape for the writing instrument. The exclusive Opera design, which has been an element of Visconti’s identity since 2003, is now available both as a fountain pen and a rollerball with the patented hook safe lock closing system. The Opera Metal collection is made of anodized colored avional. Avional is a high strength aluminum alloy and is used in aeronautics for highly stressed but lightweight parts. Erotic Art Collection Limited Edition A collection of pens devoted to erotic art and inspired by... the pocket watch! In the olden days, pocket watches had opening cases whose covers concealed an erotic picture on the inside. Visconti has created a pen which, just like a watch, has a barrel divided into two sections that allows access to its mechanical parts and conceals an erotic painting on the inside. Concealing an erotic picture might raise a smile in an era when nudity is so freely available on the web, but Visconti liked the idea and it harkens back to an age when there was less pornography but possibly far more eroticism! Nor did they stop at just a picture. Thanks to technology, Visconti has also built a touch of healthy voyeurism into each pen. A keyhole pierced just behind the clip allows aspiring Peeping Toms to view an erotic scene made by laser using nanotechnology. Visconti has chosen three themes, which they consider to be classics of eroticism as an art form: Casanova, Shunga, and the Kamasutra. Made of Lava with a Flexible 23kt Dreamtouch Palladium Nib More than 5,000 years ago, with the invention of writing, the pre-history of humankind ceased and the Homo Sapiens marked the dawn of human history. The first great civilizations arose and the development of sciences such as geometry, astronomy and engineering commenced. Conceived for serious writers, the material comprising this pen is as ancient as the world itself: lava from Mount Etna in Sicily, Italy (Europe’s largest active volcano). Nevertheless, it has several characteristics that make it unique to and ideal for writing instrument manufacturing. Visconti has produced a material containing over 50% of pure basaltic lava, catalysed together with resin in a patented formula.

The Homo Sapien writing instruments have a feel unlike any other and is available in bronze trim and also with stainless marine steel trim. As a result of the Dreamtouch 23kt palladium nib, the fountain pen is like writing on air!

Leo Tolstoy Writers Edition 2015

The Writers Edition Leo Tolstoy is paying tribute to one of the most important Russian authors, most famous for his works ‘War & Peace’ and ‘Anna Karenina’. He also became noted as a moral thinker and social reformer, which is reflected in the overall shape of the Writing Instrument. The characteristic pillars at the entrance of the Yasnaya Polyana estate are echoed in the shape of the top of the cap, which is crowned with the Montblanc emblem in black and white resin. Tolstoy’s philosophy of working the land with his own hands is symbolized in the elaborately handcrafted, hammered and silver plated case of the barrel. The dark grey precious resin cap, blue marbled resin cone and platinum plated fittings mirror the colors found on the covers of his first major works as well as the colors of the modest study in which he wrote his most important works. The ornament on the cap ring is inspired by a traditional woven Russian pattern that would have adorned the modest peasant smocks Tolstoy made for himself. The great author’s signature is engraved on the cap while the family’s aristocratic coat-of-arms is featured on the rhodium-plated .750 solid gold nib of the fountain pen, a subtle design detail that highlights his provenance and the value he placed on family.

The issue number engraved on the cap is proof of the uniqueness of every piece. The fountain pen version of this edition is limited to 9,000 pieces, and the ballpoint pen to 12,000. The rollerball is limited to 7,000 pieces and the set with fountain pen, ballpoint pen and mechanical pencil is limited to 900 sets.

“Bugatti” – for many automobile enthusiasts, the most evocative name in the history of the motorcar… a legend that spans generations, always inspirational, adventurous and innovative. Bugatti, founded in 1909 in the Alsatian town of Molsheim (France) and since 1998 part of the Volkswagen Group, remains true to its motto “Art, Forme, Technique,” today combining the artistic roots of its Italian founders, the distinctive understanding of the French for exclusive luxury products and brands as well as the internationally acknowledged German engineering. The development of the Bugatti Veyron represents one of the greatest technical challenges in automotive history, still the most powerful and fastest production car in the world and which can be used daily, with luxurious and comfortable travel in mind.

Montegrappa, Northern Italian like Bugatti’s founder Ettore Bugatti, offers a range of writing instruments redolent of this stellar marque. Inspired by the horses he loved, Ettore Bugatti invested his cars with visual clues to his equine passions. Most notably, his radiators – and the grille on the Veyron – were shaped like both a stirrup and a horse-shoe.

He also employed the term “pur-sang”, French for “thoroughbred”, to describe his vehicles, imbued as they were with no-compromise engineering in the quest for the ultimate in handling and performance. It remains true to this day. In creating Bugatti Pur Sang Duotone writing instruments, Montegrappa studied the details and surfaces of the Veyron, inside and out. The cars themselves are often supplied in two-tone schemes, reflected in the series’ name. Duotone pens’ caps and barrels join metal components with superior-quality Italian resin, offered in four combinations: Matte Black /Ruthenium; Argus Pheasant Brown/Rose Gold; Indigo Blue/Rhodium; and Bugatti Blue/Rhodium. Starting on the cap and running through the complete pen, the metal surfaces are engraved with a pattern of “Dynamic Quilting”, recalling the upholstery within a Veyron. The fountain pen is enhanced with an 18kt gold nib, available in M, F, and B widths.

The foreign minister of the Weimar Republic, Gustav Stresemann (1879-1929), was honored with the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1926 for his reconciliatory work between nations after World War I. Besides his impressive political career, Stresemann also became famous for the creation of a new kind of suit with thin stripes that was still sufficiently formal for official presentations and yet comfortable enough for his work at the office. A legend developed… and people began to call the striped Pelikan fountain pens of that era “Stresemann”. Both the suits and the pens still carry that name to this day.

To honor this legend, Pelikan has named the latest addition to the standard collection, the Souveran with elegant stripes in anthracite, the “Stresemann”. The barrel with the deceptively simple anthracite stripes is made of cellulose acetate, using a traditional process that’s extremely labor- intensive. For the black, finely turned pieces, high quality resin was used. The clip and the rings are plated with palladium. The nib is made of 18kt gold, available in M, F, XF and B widths. Piston fill.

Taking Care of Your Fountain Pen • Use your pen! The ink in a fountain pen flows most smoothly when the pen is used regularly.

• Do not press down hard on the nib when the pen won’t write. Excessive pressure can damage the nib. When a pen does not write well, it is often because the pen needs to be cleaned and refilled.

• Cap the pen properly by placing the cap onto the barrel rather than dropping the barrel into the cap which can result in ink spilling into the cap.

• Write on quality stationery which is neither too absorbent, nor coated (giving a slick writing surface) nor too fibrous (releasing fibers which can clog your pen).

• When traveling by airplane, your pen should be completely full of ink or completely empty. Air trapped in a partially filled ink cartridge or converter can expand with changes in altitude and cause a fountain pen to leak.

• Place the cap on the pen when not in use; otherwise the ink can evaporate or thicken.

• When not in use, a fountain pen containing ink should be stored in an upright position (nib facing the sky). If your pen will not be used for a week or so, it is best to remove the ink and clean the pen with cool water.

• To clean your pen, first empty the ink. Use your converter or built-in filling mechanism to fill and flush the pen with cool water. Repeat several times until the water runs clear. For very clogged pens with built-in filling mechanisms, fill the pen with cool water and let the water sit overnight. Further, leave the uncapped pen soaking overnight in a glass of cool water, nib facing downwards, entirely submerged in the water. If a converter fill, remove the nib/grip section unit and allow it to soak in the water overnight. Use a soft cloth to wipe excess water from the nib when drying.
