Leonardo Da Vinci Machina

Limited Edition Visconti is delighted to announce the Leonardo Da Vinci Machina pen in celebration of the amazing artist, architect, engineer, and scientist. The Machina was inspired by the desire to celebrate Leonardo Da Vinci’s lifetime achievements. A man as well known in the art community as he was in the science and mathematics industries, Visconti commemorates Da Vinci’s life on the 500th anniversary of the Italian legend’s passing. He was born near Florence, Italy and celebrated worldwide for the immense impact he had on popular culture. Visconti chose to highlight his engineering talent for the design of the Machina collection. Hand-crafted in two different limited edition finishes, solid sterling silver and vermeil, the cap and barrel feature beautiful details of the technical drawings of some of Da Vinci’s revolutionary machines collected from the famous Codex Atlanticus. The use of the scrimshaw technique and a colored pigment are a tribute to Da Vinci’s beloved red chalk drawings, showing once again the remarkable technical and artistic expertise of Visconti’s craftsmen. This Limited-Edition pen comes in an expertly crafted icosahedron-shaped gift box that has a hinged lid and opens to feature a gear shape that holds the Machina pen. In celebration of Visconti’s 30th anniversary, Visconti has revived one of their most iconic models, the Voyager. First launched in 1993, the Voyager’s clean lines and ergonomic design made it a must have for many pen enthusiasts. Visconti has modernized the Voyager by adding the Ponte Vecchio bridge clip, and keeping with tradition, reinstated some classic Visconti elements to this relaunch. The pen is turned from high quality German-made ebonite, a material commonly used for many vintage Visconti pens. A Visconti travelling inkwell made from the same ebonite is packaged with each pen. The result is the Voyager 30, the perfect synthesis of tradition, grace, and originality. Ebonite is one of the first materials ever to be used to create fountain pens. Homo Sapien Collection

More than 5,000 years ago, with the invention of writing, the pre-history of humankind ceased and the Homo Sapiens marked the dawn of human history. The first great civilizations arose and the development of sciences such as geometry, astronomy and engineering commenced. The material comprising this pen is as ancient as the world itself: lava from Mount Etna in Sicily, Italy (Europe’s largest active volcano). Nevertheless, it has several characteristics that make it unique to and ideal for writing instrument manufacturing. Visconti has produced a material containing over 50% of pure basaltic lava, catalyzed together with resin in a patented formula. The Homo Sapien writing instruments have a feel unlike any other and is available in bronze trim and also with black ruthenium trim. The "Magma" Edition, features red trim, symbolizing the eruption of molten lava through the volcano’s passageways, giving a fiery contrast against the matte black lava of the pen's body. The Homo Sapien fountain pens feature Visconti’s high-power filler, made of titanium. Visconti continues to use and to perfect the skeleton technique for its most precious pens. The iconic Watermark Demo Silver, which won the best pen design 2017 by Le Stylographe, is enriched by two new models, the Blue Moon and Rainbow. A dynamic pattern of a stylized V, the company’s logo, is perforated in silver tube as the beginning of a process that requires several phases of manufacturing until obtaining the final process. The Watermark is a pen that demonstrates one of Visconti's greatest skills, the artisanal craftsmanship of the cut-out filigree, an ability to achieve intricate details with absolute precision. Medici Dynasty Collection The Medici pen is faceted with eight sides like the baptistery of Florence. The shape is made following the rules of the Divine Proportion, codified from Leonardo da Vinci under the patronship of the Medici family. Each color has been chosen as a tribute to the ancient luxury materials used in the Medici mansions. The body of the pens are enhanced by the Lily emblem (fleur de lis) engraved on the center band that pays homage to the city of Florence and all trims are rose gold plated. Each instrument is hand-polished and plated with precious palladium finish and patterned with an homage to the 1950’s era-defining Diamond Head design. With six triangular facets, the Fire Head guilloche pattern is velvet on the hand, contrasting superbly with its geometrical precision. S.T. Dupont’s artisans add layers of blue natural lacquer to the patterned guilloche surface in a months-long process involving many applications and polishing to impart depth and mystery to each finish. Meisterstück Solitaire Geometry

The in-depth study of geometry during the Renaissance allowed painters to move away from a chronological illustration of reality in favor of a 3-dimensional representation. In fact, linear perspective generated an optical illusion: a flat 2D surface was perceived as a 3D image. Meisterstück Geometry uses a repetitive hexagon motif to generate an optical illusion and beautiful light reflections. This restage of the Geometric Dimension line is also inspired by Montblanc’s long-lasting tradition in geometrical form. The barrel and cap of the Solitaire Geometry instruments are fully covered in a Platinum or Champagne Gold coated engraved geometrical pattern with an optical effect. Souverän 805 Stresemann Collection

The foreign minister of the Weimar Republic, Gustav Stresemann (1879–1929), was honored with the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1926 for his reconciliatory work between nations after World War I. Besides his impressive political career, Stresemann also became famous for the creation of a new kind of suit with thin stripes that was still sufficiently formal for official presentations and yet comfortable enough for his work at the office. A legend developed… and people began to call the striped Pelikan fountain pens of that era “Stresemann.” Both the suits and the pens still carry that name to this day. To honor this legend, Pelikan has named this latest addition to the standard collection, the Souveran with elegant stripes in anthracite, the Stresemann. The barrel with the deceptively simple anthracite stripes is made of cellulose acetate, using a traditional process that’s extremely labor-intensive. • Use your pen! The ink in a fountain pen flows most smoothly when the pen is used regularly. • Do not press down hard on the nib when the pen won’t write. Excessive pressure can damage the nib. When a pen does not write well, it is often because the pen needs to be cleaned and refilled. • Cap the pen properly by placing the cap onto the barrel rather than dropping the barrel into the cap which can result in ink spilling into the cap. • Write on quality stationery which is neither too absorbent, nor coated (giving a slick writing surface) nor too fibrous (releasing fibers which can clog your pen). • When traveling by airplane, your pen should be completely full of ink or completely empty. Air trapped in a partially filled ink cartridge or converter can expand with changes in altitude and cause a fountain pen to leak. • Place the cap on the pen when not in use; otherwise the ink can evaporate or thicken. • When not in use, a fountain pen containing ink should be stored in an upright position (nib facing the sky). If your pen will not be used for a week or so, it is best to remove the ink and clean the pen with cool water. • To clean your pen, first empty the ink. Use your converter or built-in filling mechanism to fill and flush the pen with cool water. Repeat several times until the water runs clear. For very clogged pens with built-in filling mechanisms, fill the pen with cool water and let the water sit overnight. Further, leave the uncapped pen soaking overnight in a glass of cool water, nib facing downwards, entirely submerged in the water. If a converter fill, remove the nib/grip section unit and allow it to soak in the water overnight. Use a soft cloth to wipe excess water from the nib when drying. • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for maintenance of your pen.
