Homo Sapiens Lava Color Collection We are delighted to announce the launch of the highly anticipated Homo Sapiens Lava Color collection, Visconti’s latest addition to the iconic Homo Sapiens series. Visconti re-interprets their flagship pen line with color, a more modern image, and a new in-house 14kt gold nib. Like its predecessors, the Lava Color is made from Visconti’s well-known and much treasured lava rock, making the pen virtually unbreakable and very comfortable to write with. The Lava Color collection is the perfect union of catalyzed Mount Etna basaltic lava and colored resin using Visconti’s patented methods. This natural combination creates a rugged stonelike feel and texture with rustic natural colors. The collection is launched in three matte finishes: Blizzard (White), Inferno (Red), and Sandstorm (Tan), with each pen accented by black Ruthenium trim. The volcanic material features an anti-stain treatment that protects the pen and prevents ink from depositing on the pen during refilling. Each finish is available in fountain pen, rollerball, and ball pen. The rollerball and fountain pen feature an exclusive magnetic closing system which makes opening and closing the pen effortless. The ball pen operates with a twist. Identical to previous Homo Sapiens models, the fountain pen fills with Visconti’s patented power filling system, but new to the lava color is the introduction of Visconti’s first in-house, oversized 14kt gold nib. Each nib is hand polished and the nib, feed, and housing are made entirely in-house; consequently, the entire pen is produced in Florence. In the beginning of the 20th century, a new era of Egyptomania overwhelmed the world of decorative arts and intellectual life, the result of the extensive study of ancient Egyptian remains, culture, and spiritual life. This new collection is inspired by the octagonally shaped Montblanc “Egyptian” fountain pens from the 1920s. On the cap of each Heritage Egyptomania pen is an engraved cartouche containing hieroglyphics translating to the word “Montblanc,” or “white stone mountain.” The unique clip features a sculpted scarab beetle at the tip. The octagonal writing instruments are offered in the Heritage series in precious black resin with vintage gold-coated fittings, and the Heritage Doue series in black precious resin and metal trim with vintage platinum coating. • Use your pen! The ink in a fountain pen flows most smoothly when the pen is used regularly. • Do not press down hard on the nib when the pen won’t write. Excessive pressure can damage the nib. When a pen does not write well, it is often because the pen needs to be cleaned and refilled. • Cap the pen properly by placing the cap onto the barrel rather than dropping the barrel into the cap which can result in ink spilling into the cap. • Write on quality stationery which is neither too absorbent, nor coated (giving a slick writing surface) nor too fibrous (releasing fibers which can clog your pen). • When traveling by airplane, your pen should be completely full of ink or completely empty. Air trapped in a partially filled ink cartridge or converter can expand with changes in altitude and cause a fountain pen to leak. •P lace the cap on the pen when not in use; otherwise the ink can evaporate or thicken. • When not in use, a fountain pen containing ink should be stored in an upright position (nib facing the sky). If your pen will not be used for a week or so, it is best to remove the ink and clean the pen with cool water. • To clean your pen, first empty the ink. Use your converter or built-in filling mechanism to fill and flush the pen with cool water. Repeat several times until the water runs clear. For very clogged pens with built-in filling mechanisms, fill the pen with cool water and let the water sit overnight. Further, leave the uncapped pen soaking overnight in a glass of cool water, nib facing downwards, entirely submerged in the water. If a converter fill, remove the nib/grip section unit and allow it to soak in the water overnight. Use a soft cloth to wipe excess water from the nib when drying. • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for maintenance of your pen.
