Ram Kapoor is one of those few people you can’t help but like. It’s almost like his persona on Sony’s Bade Achche Lagte Hain coming true. His warm, friendly smile appears totally genuine; he actually pays attention to what you have to say and when he asks you to stay a while longer and have coffee with him, you know he’s not just trying to be nice. With Ram, you feel relaxed enough to talk about your life. Therein lies his talent.

Ram Kapoor TV’s 40-Year-Old Heartthrob
B
e it Jai Walia of Kasamh Se or his very recent portrayal of his namesake Ram Kapoor in Bade Achche Lagte Hain, the audience has accepted and acknowledged the actor rather well in each of his portrayals. But in the ever growing TV industry, where you become synonyms with one cult character, it’s not normal to be associated with two such cult characters. However, in a short span of five months, Ram has done the unthinkable. His amazing portrayal in Bade Achche Lagte Hain… has won him accolades galore. His charming personality, sense of humour, panache and chivalry on the show has women swooning all over him. “You know, this kind of a response still amazes me. I love the fact that people like it so much. I know what Jai Walia has done for me. Jai Walia was a huge success and became quite a cult character. And

I know that this is not very common in Indian television. Smriti (Irani) will always be Tulsi and so on. I knew that we have a great show on our hands, but I didn’t think that it would surpass Kasamh Se or Jai Walia,” he says gladly. So how much of his namesake on the show is the real Ram Kapoor? “Honestly, this character is not at all like the real me. But it is my goal as an actor, to bring myself in any character that I do. Jai Walia was also poles apart from the real me and so is this character. Yes, I have tried to bring in my personal touch. Ram Kapoor on the show is very quirky. But I am very chilled out. Yet I have tried to bring out the quirks in the best way I can.” Since he plays his namesake on the show, whose idea was it? “It was Ekta’s idea. It came
as news to me too. I haven’t ever really asked her for the reason. But my guess is that because she wrote the concept with me in mind, she let it be and didn’t change it.” Ask him how he reacts to the fact that thousands of women across the nation find him sexy and pat comes his reply, “I go blank when women call me sexy. I do get this a lot on Facebook and all too. And it surprises me when they say such things, because I can’t seem to figure out what they find sexy in me. Is it that they like quirky, fat men? I can’t really place it.” Well, yeah, when you think sexy, you think six pack abs, etc. “Exactly,” he says reiterating my statement. But doesn’t he think that he is sexy? “Well, I think you’ll have to ask my wife that. I think I can be sexy if I want to and only my wife and my close friends will probably see that side. But that is definitely not what I am trying to achieve in this character and this role. So what women are finding sexy in this role, I really don’t know. But it’s an amazing feeling.” Before taking up his role in Bade…, Ram had taken a sabbatical from daily soaps and was seen doing only reality shows. He did Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and Rakhi Ka Swayamvar. “You know, there is a specific

Achche… was in the pipeline for almost a year-and-a-half before Sakshi (Tanwar, his co-star on the show) and I finally agreed. Ekta had written this with me and Sakshi in mind. And even when I said no, Ekta was very clear that she’d wait for me. She told the channel that too. She said she’d only do this show with Sakshi and Ram. In fact, we both said no because of our film commitments.” So somewhere, he knew that Ekta was waiting for him? “Yeah, when somebody like Ekta, who I owe a lot too, writes something for me and says that she’ll wait for me, it’s a big deal. Both Sakshi and I can never forget what Ekta did for us. She gave us phenomenal work and made us household names. Plus, in today’s cutthroat market, when a channel gives you a prime time slot, no producer says no. But Ekta did. So that is something I could not walk away from. I could not do that to Ekta, because I can never forget what she has done for me. And obviously, Sakshi also felt the same at some point, which is why she took it up too.” According to Ram, he was also eagerly looking forward to working with Sakshi. He states, “It’s just that we both didn’t want to give so much time to TV. But once we decided to do it, we made sure that both of us did it. And I think it’s because of that, that the two of us share a great comfort level. It usually takes a person a while to adjust to one’s co-star. But Sakshi and I hit it off very well.”
reason I did them. Because the character of Jai Walia had become so iconic and lasted for almost four years, people had seen me as a very intense and serious guy. So everyone started thinking that I am this very intense kind of person. That’s when Gautami told me that I should do something, which portrays the real me,” he takes a breather, “Somewhere, it all really paid off. See, with Kasamh Se, people realised that I could act. And after Jhalak… and …Swayamvar, I got very interesting film offers. Udaan happened. And I was the light character in Udaan, not the intense one. Then Karthik Calling Karthik happened.”

Another reason why Ram took a sabbatical from dailies for so long is because he wanted to focus on films. “See, the actual goal was to concentrate on films. And after Jhalak… and all, the correct people of Bollywood started calling me. That’s when I realised that it was the correct time to focus on films, since I wanted to establish myself as a character actor. Yes, there were a lot of daily soap offers that came to me, but I said no. In fact, the first time I was offered Bade Achche…, I had said no to it.” Looking at my surprised expression, Ram promises me that the story is rather interesting. He continues, “Bade
Since he has got such an amazing response for his show, what is the best compliment he has received for his performance so far? “Well, it wasn’t really what that person said to me. It was just the fact that the person did what he did. A month into the show, I got a phone call from a number I didn’t recognise. You know, I am a person who never answers unknown numbers. But I answered this call. It was an elderly person’s voice, who was very polite and spoke very correct Hindi,” he looks at me excitedly. “It turned out to be Yash Chopra. He told me that he loved my work in Bade Achche… and that he was addicted to the show to such an extent that he even watched the repeats. Imagine, such a big man calling
me personally and complimenting me. I was thrilled. I mean, you can’t get bigger than Yash Chopra in the industry, so I was over the moon.” Coming to his personal life, Ram has always been candid about his Casanova past. “Well, I was quite the Casanova before and I don’t deny it, because I don’t regret it,” he cuts in. “I have an amazing life and I think I got married at the right time to the right person. It wasn’t too early. I was 30. It was almost like one phase of my life was over and a new one was beginning. See, all this wasn’t planned. I am just lucky that it happened at the right time. But I don’t think marriage changed me that drastically. Fatherhood did.” Ram is the proud father of a son named Aks and a daughter named Sia. “Fatherhood changes a man, your whole life changes,” he continues, “Today, I can
she has managed to bag a role in Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year, as my wife. So after this long break, she will be seen in the film opposite me. She’s very excited about it.” As an actor, there was a time in Ram’s career, where he had a macho man image replete with six pack abs and all. In retrospect, question him on whether he misses that image and he instantly replies, “Oh God, no! I’ll tell you why. See, when I had that macho man image and those six packs, I got a lot of female attention. It was quite the Casanova phase of my life, but work was okay. Not that awesome. But now, my work is at the highest point that it has been so far. I am at the top in the TV industry and I am lucky that the right people are calling me and giving me good roles in films too. So I have so much to be happy about that there is no question of missing anything.”
“I THINK I CAN BE SEXY IF I WANT TO AND ONLY MY WIFE AND MY CLOSE FRIENDS WILL PROBABLY SEE THAT SIDE. BUT THAT IS DEFINITELY NOT WHAT I AM TRYING TO ACHIEVE IN BADE ACHCHE LAGTE HAIN. SO WHAT WOMEN ARE FINDING SEXY IN THIS ROLE, I REALLY DON’T KNOW. BUT IT’S AN AMAZING FEELING.” honestly say that I am a changed man, but that’s after becoming a parent. You know, how old people say ki iski shaadi karwa do, yeh sudhar jaayega. But it’s not like main shaadi ke baad sudhar gaya tha. In fact, I tried to make Gautami as wild as possible. I made her a party animal. And in the first two-three years of our marriage, we had a killer social life. But I am very lucky to have found the right life partner and had these phases in my life at the right time. That’s why I have no regrets and that’s why I can very candidly talk about my past.” Since Gautami and Ram created magic together on screen with Ghar Ek Mandir, will we see the two of them work together anytime soon? “Well, by luck of association, because she is my wife,
didn’t want to produce a film with her TV actors. And if you ask me, she took the right decision, because Udaan had both me and Ronit (Roy), who’ve worked with Ekta. So it would have come with its set of preconceived notions. I think five to 10 years down the line, if she is successful as a film producer and I am successful as a character actor, then I am sure we’ll work together.” Career-wise and on the personal front, things are looking up for him. So what are the limits that he has set for himself at this point in time? “Well, I haven’t set any limits. I don’t really believe in that. I have always tried to live in the present and enjoy it and that’s why I have always been happy.” Well, from acting in television to doing reality shows, from walking the Cannes red carpet for his film Udaan and also doing various Bollywood films, Ram has done it all. And his journey has only just begun!
Considering he shares such a close bond with Ekta Kapoor, will he be working with her in films too? “See, I don’t think that will happen anytime soon. Ekta and I have tasted a lot of success on TV together. Ekta has very recently started getting recognition as a film producer too. She is still known as a TV queen. So she is slowly trying to make her mark. On a smaller scale, I am doing that too. Now this quickly, if we do something together, it will dilute the fact that she is trying to make her mark as a producer and I am trying to make my mark as a character actor,” he pauses, “I’ll tell you something interesting. Udaan was first offered to Ekta to produce. But she said no, as she

Sanjay Dutt sets the record straight!

utt’s the man, or so they say. Can anyone blame him for being high on life these days for all the right reasons? He begins second innings as a producer with Sanjay Dutt Productions Pvt Ltd’s Rascals, a mad-cap comedy directed by David Dhawan. While Double Dhamaal was a big hit, he will soon be seen in Zilla Ghaziabad and Son of Sardar. He has taken on the mantle of hosting Big Boss Season 5 after co-hosting the initial episodes with Salman Khan. On the personal front, marriage to Manyata has done wonders to him after he had let himself go a few years ago. Today, she ensures he does not miss his workouts. You can say she has whipped him back into shape. His twins Shahran and Iqra are his two bundles of joy, an equation he regrets not sharing with his daughter Trishala (daughter from first marriage to late wife Richa Sharma). There seems to be nothing stopping this 52-year-old. Lady Luck is smiling at you once again. Double Dhamaal has been a hit. Has marriage and fatherhood brought you all this good fortune? I don’t know. May be it’s fatherhood. It’s hard work and various other factors that come together for a film to become a hit. Actually, it’s God’s blessings. Basically, what goes down also comes up.
10 TeleLIFE
What percentage of the credit for the change of tides in your life and career goes to your wife Manyata? All the credit has to be given to Manyata. She has streamlined my life. She has given me two beautiful children. I really look forward going home to my kids. I enjoy playing with them. Even as far as work is concerned, Manyata keeps me in check. It’s a pretty good life. Your daughter Trishala is keen on a movie career while you’ve vehemently opposed the idea. I don’t have to explain my family bonding or about what my family thinks to everybody. Trishala is my daughter. I don’t have to explain anything to anybody. She has studied forensic science. She has put in a lot of hard work in the university. She has worked with the FBI closely and why should all that go to the dumps. You know it’s not an easy industry. From the outside, it feels it’s so easy to act. It’s not. It’s a very difficult job and that’s it. If she is away from it, it’s better. Yes, I am conservative like that and I am protective about her. If my father was alive, he would have never let it happen too. Heard that Ajay and you are very upset with Kangna over some issues... Why should we be upset with Kangna? Both of us have worked with her. She is a colleague. She is a fellow actor and that’s it. Okay no problems with Kangna but recently you did have a spat with Salman Khan? No, we didn’t have a fight. For God’s sake, there was no fight.
“I can’t play
Salman’s father” Our equation is like a younger brother’s love for an older brother and older brother’s love for his younger brother. And with that kind of equation we can’t not fight at all but it’s not the way press has reported it. Why is everybody making such a big issue about it? He’s not Salman Khan for me and I am not Sanjay Dutt for him. He is my brother and I am his. Isn’t it true that Salman asked you to play his father in the Bodyguard? He did ask me to play a cameo. I don’t know if it was for his father’s role or something else. But I didn’t have the time when he asked me for it. But if he were to request you to play his father, would you agree? No I can’t play Salman’s father. I can play his older brother. Didn’t Salman also suggest that your career will flourish if you sack your manager Dharam Uberoi? No, it’s not true. I don’t know from where all these things have come up. I can understand that we are bad boys from Bandra but we are not that bad, eh? Ameesha Patel tweeted photographs of your baby? That upset you and your wife Manyata a lot? No, we were not upset with her but we didn’t like it. Ameesha is a very close friend of Maana. I don’t think she meant to hurt us. She probably did it out of excitement.
With your forthcoming films Rascals, Department, Zilla Ghaziabad, the remake of Agneepath and Son of Sardar, it looks like you are on a roll. Yeah, I am really excited. Just waiting for Rascals to release and Agneepath’s first look is already out. I think it’s awesome. It’s a great promo. It’s a different look and character for me. I have never played a villain in my career. That’s why I am really excited. I think Karan Johar as a producer is unbelievable and hats off to director Karan Malhotra. As a first time director to take a film like Agneepath and to make it the way he does. That is really remarkable.
11 TeleLIFE
For Agneepath you shaved off your head and even your eyebrows to transform into the villain’s character… It was the excitement of the role. Kancha is a larger than life character. Karan told me that he wants me to look like a mountain. So I put in a lot of muscle and looked big. It’s been a fantastic experience to play Kancha. You have acted with Hrithik almost after 10 yrs of Mission Kashmir. And in a combat you are once again going to beat him up? Yeah, my character has to do that. In Mission Kashmir I was playing his father and here in Agneepath I am playing the villain but the feelings were the same. I felt bad and I didn’t feel like hitting him. The TRPs of Big Boss 4 skyrocketed because Salman did a fabulous job in the last season. You have huge shoes to step into. Does that make you nervous? I am a little nervous. But I am going to co-host it with Salman for the first few episodes. He’s told me, ‘Just be yourself. You will be fine.’ I‘ll be rehearsing with him. Let’s see how it goes. It should go well. What has second time fatherhood added to your life? To be honest, I never got to spend such moments with Trishala. She was in America while I was working in Mumbai. She grew up there. I’ve never had this kind of bonding with her while she was growing up which I think was required for her too. She too needed to feel close to her father. But there was no way that I could have got her back here. But yes it’s a new experience for me to see to my new babies grow. You came under a lot of flak for endorsing a pan masala brand a while ago. Whatever made you agree to be part of something like that? Sachin (Joshi, son of Gutka baron Jagdish Joshi, who earlier made his acting debut opposite Nagma in a Telugu film) is a like a brother to me. And he came to me and he wanted me to
12 TeleLIFE
endorse it and I couldn’t say no to him. And that’s the reason I did it. Now his movie is releasing. You are a role model for thousands. Hopefully you will never endorse tobacco again. Yeah, you are absolutely right about that. You are friends with both Shahrukh and Salman. Is that a tough balance to achieve? No it’s not a tough balance to achieve. I respect them and they respect me and I have no reason to be fighting with anybody. I respect and love them both. Sanjay Dutt ko kiss baat se darr lagta hai? Cockroach se. Yeah, I shit in my pants when I spot a cockroach. Will you ever dabble into politics again? I’ll never in my life go back to politics again. I just tried to put my foot in to test the waters, tried to check what it is like and then ran away from there. I’ll never go back to that area again. Is there anything you wish for beyond films? I just wish God grants me one wish that I get my freedom. I hope this case gets over. I hope I am acquitted. It’s been 20 years now. And that has been my dream and my wish I hope God grants me that. You have this tough and macho image. But deep down you are a softie. Is it true that the softest muscle in your body is your heart? Absolutely right! I am a softie. I feel bad for people who suffer. I do not like to see people in pain. I try to help my producers and I do whatever possible when I see them in trouble. I even forfeit money. Yeah, my heart is the softest thing I have!

CIRCUIT
THE MESSI FRENZY
M
essi mania gripped Kolkata when the 24-year-old Argentinean football wizard, Lionel Messi, arrived to play a friendly match between his team and Venezuela at the city’s Yuva Bharati Krirangan. It was special for Kolkata as it was the first time that Lionel Messi led his national team on the field. The Argentinean blue and white jerseys sold like hot cakes while the most in demand were Messi’s Number 10 jerseys. Despite the euphoria, Messi dodged fans and the media amidst tight security, confining himself to only practice and game. Messi did not venture out to try out any local fare like most visitors to India and played safe on the diet front. He took health food at the Hyatt Regency hotel where the team chef had landed up a few days earlier to strictly monitor the food quality and instruct the hotel chefs on preparing Spanish food as per the taste buds of the Argentinean. Channel 10, a Bengali channel, which bagged the right to broadcast the friendly football match in the subcontinent, beamed footage of Messi breakfasting on fruit juice, boiled dates and pasta. So, no syrupy rosogolla or mishti doi for him. Besides game and practice, Messi confined himself to resting in his hotel room. Unlike his teammates who went on a shopping spree, he did not indulge in any shopping. However, Channel 10 gifted him a traditional Bengali dhoti and kurta (dhuti-panjabi) as a special memento. Whether the famous Number 10 Jersey footballer will ever sport the Bengali attire, only time will tell.

ALL’S WELL BETWEEN MAHIMA AND BOBBY
B
obby Mukherji, the famous architect and interior designer of five-star properties in India, has been seeing his professional life progressing in leaps and bounds all these years. But, while the career graph was going high, his family life had to bear the brunt of his busy calendar. But now, when Bobby’s career is soaring high and he is overloaded work, he has realised the importance of family. Bobby opines, “Taking out time for personal life is a problem with so much work and travel.” In the past, much has been talked about his strained relationship with wife Mahima Chaudhary and her complains of Bobby not spending time with their little daughter Ariana. There were strong rumours about the couple parting ways. Of late, the couple has been rather low key. But, the charismatic architect decided to mend ways. He tells Society, “Earlier, I used to travel on weekends too, but now, I stay with my family. Weekends are now spent with Mahima and Ariana in Mumbai as much as possible. On weekdays, I prefer to stay in Mumbai for work, now I have trained my associates who travel for work. I don’t necessarily attend all the meetings as I used to earlier.” It seems all’s well in the family as Bobby insists, “Marriage is going fine. My daughter Ariana has turned four and has started going to school. During my meetings in other cities, I make sure I buy something for Ariana. Like, I brought a beautiful ghagra choli for her fancy dress competition while I was recently in Delhi.” Don’t we all like happy endings?

f you thought the darling of Twitter, Shashi Tharoor, is still impressing people with his witty social networking skills, you are probably living in the past. Shashi’s intelligence seems to be fading amidst wife Sunanda Pushkar Tharoor’s mystifying presence. It seems Mrs Tharoor has taken his place as these days, she is flooring many by her charm and her friendly nature. At a recent book launch, where Tharoor launched Amaryliis Publications’, Basant Kumar & Sarala Birla: Life has No Full Stops, in Delhi, as the suave politician impressed the audience by his immaculate speech and came down the podium, something unlikely happened. It wasn’t Shashi who was surrounded by his fans and the media as it is usually witnessed. Instead, it was Sunanda who was the centre of attraction. This 40-plus beauty, clad in a turquoise blue salwar kameez and a light shawl, was paying due attention to every person she met. Polite in her speech and
mannerisms, she said, “I apologise for not reading the extract from the book as I have a bad throat I have just recovered from viral.” It seemed Tharoor was in a hurry to leave the venue as hardly anybody showed interested in the man.
He was repeatedly seen asking Sunanda to make a move. While Shashi was in a rush, Sunanda’s newly appointed female manager was patiently taking notes of her next appointments. How times change!

aggage loss and customs clearance (or the lack of it) is the bane of a celebrity’s existence. Freida Pinto, India’s most-recent export to the west, was the latest in the long list of stars to have her baggage first lost and then stuck at the customs in Canada. But, the young fashion icon didn’t let that stop her from looking like a million bucks. While her
wardrobe waited for customs’ clearance in Toronto, Freida pulled out a poppy red dress from her personal luggage and wore it with élan for one of her outings. The dress (seen here on a model) was custom-made by Indian designer Sanchita Ajjampur, who is also a design consultant for Lanvin. InStyle magazine heard the anecdote and Sanchita got
a mention in fashion’s most-respected magazine. Talking about the dress, Sanchita, who also has an eponymous label, says, “The poppy coloured dress was very feminine with butterfly wings and haute couture finishes. It was customised for Freida taking into consideration her views as she is very active in her own wardrobe selection. I’ve known Freida for some time now and I find she is very fashion-wise and doesn’t run herself frantic trying to keep up with the latest rage, fad or craze. Her suggestions and visions are very focused and she is very aware about what she feels comfortable in. Hence, the ultimate outcome becomes a joint collaboration as she looks beautiful in anything she wears.” Sanchita designs footwear and bags for Freida too and there are some gowns in production as well. (Like Freida, Dev Patel also dresses in Lanvin and Sanchita). Now, you know why the fashion houses love her so?

uess what Dharmendra has been busy with of late? For a guy who loves his food and drink, the actor was in the US for the launch of Yummy Chef, a new gourmet ‘Heat and Eat’ line of yummy Indian vegetarian preparations. What’s more, he is the brand ambassador and the face of the new line of culinary products. He even swore by some of the dishes—the Daal Makhni and the Moong dal Halwa and urged those present at the Novatel Hotel for the launch to try them. Thanks to his come-back film Yamla Pagla Deewana, garam Dharam’s brand value seems to have shot up and is now as sizzling as the yummy, hot dishes he is endorsing. Also present at the event was filmmaker, Tirlok Malik.

While daughters, Tanya and Nisaba, have got into the groove with the daily running of the humongous corporation, son, Pirojsha, has been making quite an impression in the business circles with his contribution to Godrej Properties. Surely, their parents, Adi—who has formally retired from the day-to-day functioning of the company— and mother Parmeshwar, who has been out of circulation for some time now, must be really proud of their children’s achievements. After all, they have taken over from where the parents left and rather wonderfully at that.

khilesh Yadav wants to spread awareness about corruption and he is planning to do it in style. Quite literally. The Kranti Rath, a mini bus that his father Mulayam Singh Yadav used in 1987, has a modern version now. It is said that the son has personally supervised the modifications being done in the vehicle parked at his
residence. It was on 14 September 1987 when the senior Yadav had journeyed in the Kranti Rath and the same month this year, the wheels of the Kranti Rath rolled again this time steered by Yadav junior. But, with a difference! The modified mini bus is installed with modern amenities like a retiring room, a toilet, lift, a microphone for addressing the meeting and an internet connection, no less! Talk about Bollywood stars having state-of-the-art vanity vans!

Ranbir Kapoor
– the Casanova!
At his best Ranbir Kapoor is just a young boy doing his job, having fun. He is rich, famous, well-mannered, good-looking, charming, and above all — single... hoping for love (as he himself admits) and is being linked with almost every girl who seems to be looking in his direction. Nothing makes a man more irresistible to the opposite sex than the idea of him being a Casanova. What’s even crazier is that Ranbir insists he is nothing like that in real life. 18 TeleLIFE
Are you ready for the media blitzkrieg that will follow with the promotions of Rockstar? It feels strange because I’ve been out of that whole process of talking. Promoting a film is a very hard and important job. Marketing a movie requires you to be intelligent and wellspoken. When the audience hears you talk about a film, they can see throughw you if you’re lying. Rockstar is a film I believe in. It’s been a great experience for me as an actor and as a person. Speaking about this film gives me a lot of joy in telling people, ‘Listen, we’ve made this movie with a lot of hard work and love, so please come and watch it’. Salman Khan has said he sees a great potential in Imran and you to upstage him. Salman sir is one person in the industry who has always been supportive of all newcomers. If I can speak for myself, he’s somebody who’s been really close to my family, He’s somebody who took me in his stride, guided me, was a friend to me and was part of my first film Saawariya. He’s one of the best human beings I’ve met. Whatever he says, he says with a lot of love, without any agenda behind it. It feels great that a mega star like Salman Khan is saying that the future is in Imran and my hands. I hope we don’t disappoint him. You are one actor who doesn’t belong to any camps. How do you manage that? I guess this generation doesn’t really have any camps. Camps are formed over the years when you work with the same people repeatedly. If I work with Ayaan Mukerji or Imtiaz Ali again, it might lead to formation of what you are referring to as camp. I don’t care. Also, we’re talking about talent and money. There’s a lot of money that goes into making a movie. Your work has to stand out, your talent has to speak and if you’re good enough, these people will repeat you and that’s the truth. A lot has been said about your rivalry with Imran Khan. What is your equation with him? It’s not that we were always friends. We hosted an award function together. We made our debut in consecutive years. We were automatically pitted against each other. What you read is all glamour. It sounds cool. Behind closed doors, we’re just friends. If I meet him somewhere I’ll have a conversation with him. But his movies, success or failure and my movies, success or failure, I don’t think that really affects our equation with each other. We both are here to do our respective work. A lot has been reported about what Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor have said about you. What’s there to react? Deepika has been a very important person in my life and she’ll continue to be, even though we are not together as a couple. Yes, some bitter things were said on the show but it’s fine, it’s her point of view. She’s cleared it out with me and I respect that. I was not hurt but I was wondering, where is this coming from, because Sonam and Deepika were extremely friendly with me and they used to talk with me. But I guess with Chinese whispers and certain media articles, it’s always exaggerated, it’s always glamourised to an extent. That

makes it awkward. I’m sure I’ll be working with Deepika and Sonam in the future. So the next time someone says, “I want to gift Ranbir Kapoor a packet of condoms,” will you just ignore it? No, I will say ‘Thank you’ Thank you for making me aware of safe sex. I think India should be aware of safe sex. The youth could be misled if they are not aware of condoms. Are there dining table conversations about your off-screen link ups and romances at home? There was a point when I would dread going down for breakfast because the entertainment sections of the morning papers had this influx of my link-ups. I used to be worried how my parents would react. But I am lucky. My parents have not been intrusive in my life. They believe that as long as I am working hard, not married and not in a relationship, there’s nothing wrong if I date women. It’s not a wrong thing, so they’re cool with it. Everyone thinks you are quite a bed-hopper, an overactive sex machine? Wow, it’s my fantasy to have all these lovely titles given to me. I hope it was true but honestly I’m not. I’m actually quite a fattu. I’m not the bed-hopper kind of guy. At the same time, I’m not dying to be with a woman. You can’t look for it, it has to happen. If it comes, I will deal with it. My work and my friends are keeping me busy. I’m trying to have a real life, I’m trying to have a reality check on life. Sometimes you lose it. But it’s very important to do normal things. Like go on a boys’ trip, just play video games with your male friends, go for a cycle ride. I have a sports car so I go for a drive alone. These things are very important because otherwise you lose out on all the fun in life. You won’t be able to do them if you’re dating someone. But people still think off-screen you are exactly like the character you played in Bachna Ae Haseeno Wow… I think that film ruined it for me! Because there was this one guy who ditches three girls. I think that image stayed with me. I believe, people can’t really get to know an actor much in their real life. They start believing them to be the character they play. I hope Rockstar changes it for me, where I’m playing the eternal lover. You play a speech and hearing impaired guy in Barfi. So did your role demand something extra out of you as an actor? Of course, if it doesn’t then I’ll get bored. In Barfi, I may be playing a deaf-mute character but because Anurag Basu is such a great director and a lovely human being, he makes it easier and at the same time fun. Barfi is not a depressing movie about handicapped people. It’s a fun film, with a lot of laughter and comedy.

So when was the last time you experienced an extremely joyous moment? When I met Lionel Messie (Argentinian footballer), whom I admire a lot. Yeah, that was joyous. And the last time you had your heart broken? It’s not fair to the relationship I’ve had and to the person to divulge details on it, but yeah, I’ve got my heart broken. Have you cheated in a relationship? Yes, I have, out of immaturity, out of inexperience, out of taking advantage of certain temptations, out of callousness. You realise it now when you grow up and you value it more — why be in a relationship, why be committed to someone when you cannot be committed? I’ve realised that now. Are you dating Nargis Fakhri, your co-actor from Rockstar? This girl has come from America, never stayed in India, she’s learned the language from scratch, She’s played a very difficult character in a very difficult movie, which is her first film. It’s a passionate love story. There is bound to be some kind of chemistry which has to be there between us. I’m extremely fond of Nargis, I mean I can safely say she is the best actor I have worked with so far in my movies and I respect her for that. True Buddies
It was expected that at the Ra.One music launch held at Film City, the media would turn up by the droves. After all, it was Shah Rukh Khan’s magnum opus event for his magnum opus film and even though he might not be the No. 1 Khan this season, the media still loves him! Another person who loves him is Kareena Kapoor, as was evident by the way she stuck by his side throughout the evening. Now, she’s not ditching boyfriend Saif Ali Khan for SRK and nor is SRK ditching wife Gauri for KK. It’s just that the two were having so much fun together promoting their film’s music, they were inseparable. Someone asked SRK why he wasn’t doing more films with Kareena, given they have such great energy together, and Shah Rukh blamed the other Khans – Saif and Aamir! “She’s too busy working with the other Khans,” quipped SRK. It seems King Khan had to beg her to do a film with him (as if we believe that!). Then, he went a step further and said that if Kareena doled out dates to him easily he would do every film with her! It’s a good thing his current ‘best buddy’ Priyanka Chopra was not around to hear that comment. But you can read it here, PC!
Ghar ki baat
Talking about being busy, Bollywood’s heroine No. 1 Kareena Kapoor has found a great excuse to find some respite from the tiresome stunts she is required to do in her action films – her fear of heights! Apparently, during the making of Ra.One, she pleaded with Shah Rukh to let her off the hook when it came to performing the high flying stunts and of course, SRK gave into her sweet charms. That’s not all. Even in boyfriend Saif Ali Khan’s ambitious project Agent Vinod, she got away with doing some minor action sequences and left the major portion of it to the stunt professionals. Why not? After all it is her honewala husband’s film!
Wedding bells?
Kareena also found time to put all rumours and speculations about her impending nuptials to rest, when she herself informed that she is not tying the knot in February but only sometime at the end of 2012. Now, that’s certainly good news for all of us who do not want her to quit acting post-shaadi and for all those filmmakers who are waiting to cast her in their films. Worry not, said Kareena, she will not quit films post-shaadi for sure.

All’s not well
Of course, it does not take a wise person to see that there is trouble between Kangna Ranaut on one side and co-stars Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn on the other, with whom both the heroes cannot see eye to eye. First, she was not invited for the promo launch of Rascals even though she was very much in town. Then, three weeks later, she was conspicuous by her absence at the music launch of the film! Finally, if there was an iota of doubt about her relations souring with her Rascals co-stars, she put paid to the rumours when she herself declared to the world that Sanjay and Ajay are not her friends! Wonder what new stunt Kangy is trying to pull here. Knowing that this is a male-dominated industry, it would be good for her if she made up with the two guys. Just like how she eventually made up with Salman after they had a misunderstanding of sorts some time ago.
All heart
Getting revenge
That way, Sonam Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor have been lucky. They both appeared on Simi’s most desirable show and in fact, Shahid managed to manipulate his appearance around the time of the release of his film, Mausam. But they work just as hard and have been aggressively promoting Mausam, having their fair share of interesting incidents. Now, it so happened that the two Kapoors had agreed for a joint interview with a news channel. Shahid, along with the TV journo, kept waiting for Sonam to show up but she did not make it for the interview for reasons best known to her. Shayad, mausam kharab tha? Or maybe Sonam had still not forgotten the time when she was called on the sets of Mausam and was made to wait the entire day doing nothing, after which not a single shot of hers was taken! Revenge is a dish best served cold, no Sonam?
Talking about another Sanjay, even though Sanjay Dutt came under a lot of flak for endorsing a gutka brand a while ago, he still made it a point to attend the music launch of Sachiin Joshi’s film Aazaan. Sachiin is the son of gutka baron Jagdish Joshi’s. Just like Sanjay could not refuse Sachin when he asked him to endorse their brand of paan masala, he could not ignore his friend’s invitation to the music function. It is this allheart quality of Sanju (which we love!) that’s got the actor into trouble in the past. Now of course, with wife Manyata by his side, Sanjay has been getting wiser. Well, most of the time.
Sulking away
Now, all this talk of Kareena, her relationships and her cute nakhras bring us back to Priyanka Chopra’s absence at the Ra.One music launch. Why wasn’t PC there to lend support to SRK considering it was a very important event for him? After all, he had been planning the event for weeks and had personally supervised every aspect of the event. To top that, we all know how close PC and SRK have become of late and her admiration of him is now legendary. We know why she wasn’t there even though SRK gave us the excuse that she was busy shooting. In two words – Kareena Kapoor! Apparently, KK was not at all happy when Shah Rukh offered Piggy Chops the item number in Ra.One but since it was not in her hands, she could not stop it. Then Saif Ali Khan offered PC an item number in Agent Vinod and this time, Priyanka declined it, clearly not wanting any controversy. Hmm… was this the reason why Kareena and Saif had a bit of a tiff in between, as had been reported?

Early to bed and early to rise
When it comes to stalking, we got reports that many people actually thought southie choreographer-turnedBollywood director Prabhudeva was stalking hero Akshay Kumar recently. Prabhudeva was seen hanging around his building at the most un-Godly hour in tinsel town – 5 a.m! Of course, for Akki, that is the time he wakes up and Prabhudeva was not stalking him but had gone to the Khiladi’s home for a meeting (yes, at that hour!) because Khiladi Kumar had called him for a meeting at that time. After the super success of Wanted, Prabhudeva decided to make a film titled Rowdy Rathore and had been chasing Akshay for the longest time. Finally, the action star gave him time early in the morning and to the humble Prabhudeva’s luck, Akki loved the narration even before the choreographerfilm director had a chance to sip his morning cuppa Madras kapi! Prabhudeva has also managed to sign Sonakashi Sinha as the lead actress for the film. Which means, not only will Sonakshi be romanced by Akshay again (they’re gonna be seen together in Shirish Kunder’s Joker), the late riser is also gonna have to wake up early to keep up with Akshay’s sleep cycle! Now, both Prabhudeva and she are living by the maxim – early to bed, early to rise. No wonder we’re hardly seeing Ms. Sinha at any of the parties around town, not that we ever really did see her post 10 pm!
Dangerous moves?
There are so many Kapoors and Khans in the industry today, can we avoid talking about them for too long? Ever since the news of Vikram Bhatt’s blue-eyed boy Rajniesh Duggall working opposite Karisma Kapoor in her come-back project Dangerous Ishq has come to light, the movie has already become the talk of B-town. Now, here’s the sizzling bit. Both the actors have agreed to shoot for some love making scenes! Karisma is apparently upset with the negative publicity surrounding her film but a source tells us that Rajniesh is pretty excited. Apparently, Karisma cried after seeing Bodyguard. Maybe that was the same evening she was informed about the love making scenes with Rajniesh!
Pativrata!
Help! Another Kapoor who pops up in our mind is senior actress Sridevi Kapoor. Well, actually she didn’t really pop into our minds, our sources inform us that apparently, Sridevi has become a complete pativrata biwi. The actor doesn’t move an inch without hubby Boney Kapoor’s consent where decisions pertaining to their daughters Jhanvi and Khushi are concerned. Apparently, Bollywood’s first superstar heroine calls her patidev for every small thing. She’s the quintessential homemaker that none of us get to see. It seems the ‘ask mummy’ days are over and the ‘ask hubby’ days are in!

Missed opportunity
One person’s jawani who Farah Khan was definitely all set to promote was Katrina Kaif on the hit chat show of the season – Simi Selects India’s Most Desirable. Sadly, Kat will not make an appearance on the show this season. Which is why we’re feeling sad for her. Now, as much fun as people want to make of Simi and her show on Twitter, the fact is, Simi and Star Network are running all the way to the bank! The show, with its crazy format and silly content, is actually a hit! Anyone who is someone in Bollywood (make that everyone!) is clamouring to be on her show! Why, she even had Karan Johar dancing on the show and admitting on national TV that she’s the better host of the two! Apparently, Kat was all set to appear on the show and even had Farah Khan and Kabir Khan ready to talk about her, since Simi could not go to London to tape her London-based parents. Then, Salman Khan’s surgery for his nerve disorder happened and threw the film Ek Tha Tiger schedule out of gear. Kat also had Mere Brother Ki Dulhan promotions going on in full swing and there was no way she could adjust her dates to shoot for the episode. The channel had a deadline and in the end, Kat and Simi could not record the show. Sad, considering we would have loved to see what Simi would’ve subjected her to, on the show. What is even sadder is that the show is nearing the end of its first season and they have some serious hotties lined up – Kangna Ranaut, Rani Mukerjee and Asin. Katrina would have been the cherry on the icing. Better luck to Katrina for season two! Hopefully, by then, Simi will have come up with a crazier format!
He’s the best
We have to give it to Salman Khan, for giving three back-to-back box office dhamakas – Dabangg, Ready and now Bodyguard. Setting an extra-ordinary benchmark of hat-trick hits, Salman not only reigns over the hearts of his fans, he is fast gaining new admirers too. Bodyguard collected 114.61 crores straight, in its first week and is still counting. On the other hand, the braveheart has already started shooting for Ek Tha Tiger while still recuperating from his surgery. Hats off to him! Wishing the new ‘King Khan’ in town good health and another hat-trick soon!

Hostess with the
Mostest Ramola Bachchan, Delhi’s biggest professional party organizer tells TeleLIFE about her idea of a perfect party!
I
t is not just her famous ‘Bachchan’ surname that makes her such a hit on the social circuit. The gracious Ramola Bachchan, known to be a warm and wonderful hostess, is known for her amazing parties. Incidentally, when she was based in London, her parties were the talk of the town. Now that she’s back in India, she has made her passion for partying a professional endeavour, and is now organizing rocking parties in partnership with A D Singh for the Olive Beach restaurant in the Capital. “A party is all about having fun. As I love meeting people, I love to throw parties,” Ramola avers, adding, “I have hosted innumerable parties. In fact, now it is no more a big task for me. I can organise a
36 TeleLIFE
party for hundreds of guests in a couple of hours. I just need to have my checklist in hand, and it lets me complete the preparations quickly. And voilà, you’ll get a rocking party!” RAMOLA’S PARTY ROCKERS Social Scenario: “I prefer intimate and personal parties. And now that parties have become more casual, guests prefer healthy, bite-sized food, good music, subtle lighting, fresh flowers and a comfortable ambience.” I Love: “Impromptu parties! I like to surprise my guests with surprise parties.” Memorable Parties: “My ‘Hollywood and Bollywood’ bash is still remembered in London. This theme party had every element of fun as guests came dressed like Hollywood and Bollywood stars. We had people coming in as Superman, James Bond, Dev Anand et al. And by the way, the guest list included the crème of the party circuit.” PARTY MANTRAS Invitees: “The guest list is very important as that becomes the deciding factor on the kind of party it’s going to be. And
the most important factor for a party hostess is seating similar-minded guests together so that there are no awkward moments. The hostess should make sure that every guest should feel comfortable. For my personal parties, my invitees are a select few. I keep in mind the age group of the guests. When there are people of different age groups, usually the guests get bored. I also organise party games to keep them entertained.” Picturesque Setting: “Open venues are my first choice. One can experiment so much at open venues in terms of decoration and lights.” Sound Of Music: “Music is a very important part of any party today. If there is good music, there will be fun, revelry and dance. Music can comprise live performances or a good DJ. Both work well. At my parties, it starts with lounge
music, then the tempo is raised and the party ends with some soothing music.” Palate Perfect: “The food is usually a mix of different cuisines. Canapés are a hit these days. Besides that, a mix of Continental and Indian works. The younger generation is not too interested in food, whereas the older generation looks forward to an interesting main course. Mediterranean cuisine is also a hit at my parties. Everybody likes it as it’s healthy and tasty. Indian food, in fact, was always a hit at my London parties.” Dollin’ Up: “I like to dress up according to my mood and the nature of the party, but I make sure that whatever I wear is absolutely eye-catching!” My USP: “Is the attention paid to each and every detail.”

Instant Detox
Shameem Akthar helps you recharge with an easy detox programme that helps you overcome all that festive binging.

hipping up a sweat through vigorous yoga is the fastest detox programme you can plan. It is also the least expensive! Sun salutations or surya namaskars which are done fast are the best. This is sure to remove impure blood and boost fresh supply. If you want to rid the body of toxins, then plan a dynamic or fast-paced yoga session. This is ideal for those who are overweight or

lethargic. If you are underweight, your practice must be gentle and relaxed. This will help you unload the toxins from the mind. Similarly, pranayama or breathing practices must be modified to suit your personality. With some expert guidance, you can plan further cleansing by doing ‘media fasting’: this includes avoiding media overload (the web, television, networking channels, overuse of gadgets etc) for short stints. This is seen as a cleansing, detox retreat. Some ashrams also plan silence (or mouna) retreats, where conversation is curtailed to the barest minimum. Meditation retreats are also a part of such planned detox programmes and work towards cleaning you inside out. In yoga, this sort of cleansing is seen as more effective than just doing a physical or fasting-from-food detox. During this period, avoid negative activities (gossip), recollecting past
problems or discussing them. Though these may seem as impossible actions, in yoga, for detox, these are essential ingredients to ensure the detox is complete.
Yoga works! Following are two mudras (hand gestures) you may use. Make the choice depending on your personality. Also use it only during the period of detox and later on, only as and when you need to use it. In mudra therapy, you must stop using these practices once the problem has been sorted out. Do for three to five minutes at a time. You can do it thrice daily for a better impact. You can also use the practice while meditating or while doing passive chores – like watching television or commuting. For the obese, lethargic personality: Vayu Vardhak (Increasing the air element): Sit meditatively. Touch the tip of your

vegetables are better than raw during this phase. Even legumes must be used judiciously. If not cooked or soaked well, they can cause flatulence. When such foods are consumed, they need to be chewed well so that the digestive enzymes released by the saliva deflate some of their sideeffects (wind, bloated feeling). Ayurveda, which complements yoga, also advises fruits in moderation during detox.

Ayurveda advises astringent-tasting fruits over sweet ones. Similarly, all beans, except moong, must be avoided during detox; even an excess of nuts should be avoided. In his book ‘Ayurvedic Healing’, ayurvedic expert Dr David Frawley advises against overusing cleansing foods: “Signs of an excess detoxifying diet include insomnia, palpitations, low energy, fainting, absence of menstruation and longterm loss of appetite.”
index finger to the tip of your thumb. Do for each hand. For the underweight, nervous personality: Vayu Shaamak (Decreasing the air element): Sit meditatively. Press down the tip of your index finger with the tip of your thumb. Do for each hand. Yogic detox diet: t Usually yoga advises fibre-rich foods. But it advises against excessive fiber during cleansing fasts. This could cause damage by straining the digestive system. t During this phase, oil consumption should be moderate, and one should avoid excessive use of spices which will further strain the system. t Gentle foodstuff like khichdi (rice gruel) is perfect. t Overindulging in raw foods can again strain the system. towards wellness Ayurveda is not merely a healing and relaxation system, but a science and an art of right living which helps to maintain health and achieve longevity. Landmark Group’s Balance Wellbeing 360° draws its inspiration from this ancient, holistic discipline combined with modern science.
Holistic approach T
he holistic model rolled out by the Landmark Group at Oasis Centre, recommends simple changes to your lifestyle that are effective and bring long lasting results. The goal is to make wellness part of your everyday life. “Ayurveda takes care of every part of the human being – physical, mental and spiritual. In the fast paced world of today, every individual is striving to achieve a balance and hence the phrase work - life balance. Ayurveda has been working on this principle for thousands of years and believes that the root cause of any ailment lies in imbalance in the five elements and the body’s equilibrium. The balancing forces are known as the doshas and there are three of them- Vatta (Space and Air), Pitta (Fire) and Kapha (Water and Earth)”, says Dr. Chandy George, the Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant at Balance Wellbeing. Al Balance Wellbeing, clients are initiated into a way of life that guides them to stay in tune with their emotional, mental and physical being. The individual consultations help towards achieving a balance in all aspects of life through simple recommendations in food, meditation, yoga exercises, as well as therapies to correct imbalances.
40 TeleLIFE
A first visit to Balance includes a detailed consultation and body analysis with Dr. Chandy for diagnosis and analysis of the body type, and an evaluation of the underlying problem. Using the ancient, authentic and time tested Ayurvedic way of analysis, he touches the pulse with three fingers. Known as Nadi Pariksha, it is a practice handed down from one generation of practitioners to the next to gauge a person’s wellbeing. It is almost magical when he informs you of your ailments in no time without your having to tell him anything! This is followed by a complete body analysis using a machine that details things like the protein, fat, water content, weight, BMI etc and identifies your problem areas, After this detailed analysis you are asked to come the following day to pick up your reports. These consist of the detailed analysis of your dosha type, your body composition, your diet, recommended daily exercise routine, therapies etc done in consultation with Head Chef Sumit, Dietician Sunaina and Dr Chandy George who come together to draw up a plan.
The diet plan is designed on the basis of foods that you have been regularly eating; it just reallocates food groups and eliminates some to achieve a healthy balance. Here, it is important to know
that Ayurveda is not limiting; it does not force you to eat a particular food or abstain from eating another. It does not insist on a vegetarian diet either. You can eat everything; all it recommends is eating in balance, observing moderation and regulation while eating according to your body type. It is important that all the six tastes are satisfied by the food that we consume on a daily basis, otherwise both the mind and body are discontent. With the diet plan in place, the report recommends fitness regimes like yoga or Pilates integrated into daily sessions at your convenience. Every individual concern area is duly addressed. For someone suffering from a lower back pain, the yoga instructor, Balan includes postures that will be beneficial for the pain. For other conditions that need spa therapies, the right treatment is picked and customised to optimise its benefits. The treatment rooms are completely relaxing and offer great privacy.
Therapies draw largely from Ayurveda as well as a few adaptations in Indonesian, Chinese, Thai, Korean, Tibetan, Middle Eastern and Moroccan therapies in combination with modern scientific principles. Water therapies, which come mainly from the European countries including Jet showers and hydro baths also feature among the treatments.
Monthly evaluations are done to determine the efficacy of the treatments undertaken and changes applied accordingly. Balance Wellbeing 360° comprises the Balance Spa, the Balance Café and the Balance Library. The Balance Spa is spread over 22,000 square feet and offers 65 therapies with 21 treatment rooms, 14 therapists with extensive knowledge of Ayurveda and therapies including Thai, Chinese, Shiatsu, and Swedish massages. “What’s interesting is that the concept includes the exclusive Balance Café, which offers meal plans, meal services and even classes to enable patrons to integrate healthy eating into their daily routines,” explains Ira Malik, COO, Landmark Hospitality.
The library contains a selection of books on Life Sciences and Enlightenment, Therapeutic Knowledge, Yoga and Mediatation, Ayurveda, Self Healing and Healthy cooking. The spa offers signature wellness treatments along with organic spa therapies that include facials, massage, rituals, wraps etc. There is an entire range of Ayurvedic therapies also on offer. There are special pre-natal and post-natal scrub and massage packages for mothers. The following are some examples of packages that will be available: Detoxification / Rejuvenation /Revitalization /Weight Loss /Emotional Imbalances /Bodily Imbalances /Bridal / Pregnancy /Wellness and Meditation /Stress Management / Healthy Living.
The entire Balance experience is all about making daily well-being options readily accessible to anyone seeking a healthier lifestyle in Dubai. The concept is pieced together with customized health bundles that bring together the aspects of nutrition, fitness regimes, wellness and spa services under one roof. Busting the notion that wellness is a luxury to be occasionally indulged in at a remote resort, its treatments and therapies blend the right approach to food, thought and therapies. The facility includes a Boutique that retails artefacts, accessories from around the world along with snacks and bottled pickles, spice mixes and unique condiments from Balance Cafe. Natural skin and hair care products, chic and comfortable organic cotton clothing, accessories as well as yoga mats made of natural fibres, meditation pillows, incenses, healing Tibetan bowls are some of the select products that the boutique will offer to discerning customers.

NOVEMBER 2011 ARIES
LEO
SAGITTARIUS
This is an excellent time to create a budget or financial plan. It’s not the time to push your agenda or personal plans forward; rather, it’s a cycle in which you are at your best when you recognize the need to form alliances, to give back to a special someone, and to compromise in order to find some balance in your life. There may be some competitive feelings between you and a significant other now. Focus is on reconciliation, forming or cementing bonds, diplomacy, consultation, one-on-one interactions, and negotiations.
During this cycle, you are planting seeds for the future. You are more aware of the benefits of networking, and you might find some great ideas through others now. You could be questioning some of the rules you have been living by and you could be ready to try something totally new. Cooperation comes easily, and warm friendships can be made during this cycle. Personal freedom is especially important to you right now, and you won’t enjoy any associations that limit you.
Your family, home, property concerns, roots and heritage come into focus and become a source of pride. You could be thrust into a position of leadership on the home front. This is a time to do what you can to build trust in your family life and a strong foundation within yourself, so that regardless of what you encounter in the outside world over the next months, you have a secure place to return to. This is a time to collect yourself-to fill your well, so to speak.
March 20 – April 18
TAURUS April 19 – May 19 Your attention turns inward, as well as to close personal relationships on a deeper level. There may be a strong focus on other’s money, such as the resources of a partner, inheritance, banking and loans, or taxes. This can be a determined and personally powerful time of year if you apply the energy of this transit constructively. It would be wise for you to consider scheduling a vacation, adventure of sorts, or a course that expands your mind to feel good about yourself.
GEMINI
May 20-June 20 This is a cycle in which you seek to expand your experiences and awareness, whether through philosophical thinking, higher education, travel, or simply activities that takes you away from your everyday routines. Your energy is strong, open, and friendly right now, and you are a little bolder and adventurous than usual. Your vision is practical right now, and you want to see tangible results for your efforts. Recognition is likely to come your way whether you ask for it or not, and the responsibility that comes right along with it!
CANCER
June 21 – July 21 Satisfaction and fulfillment during this cycle come from doing your professional best, shining as a responsible and capable person, and contributing to the world in practical ways. Landing support from authority figures is easier at this time. Avoid the pitfalls of pride or arrogance standing in your way of success. It’s a time when being a team player reaps the most rewards, and you may be mixing business with pleasure now.

CAPRICORN
Aug 22 – Sep 20
Dec 23 – Jan 19
This is the time to listen to your intuition, to take a break from the hectic pace of your life, and to reflect on what you have learnt in the past year. Your physical energy levels may not be up to par for the time being, and this is your body signaling you to take a break. It’s a great period to do something entirely new and pioneering— to go solo in some area of your life. This is a time when you more easily get in touch with a true sense of your identity and purpose.
Financial matters clear up, and work matters move forward. An important culmination of a professional matter can occur, when recognition may be forthcoming. Family and domestic life assume more importance than usual. By mid-month, spending habits become more moderate, and security is more important to you. Show off your best colors!
LIBRA
Sep 21 – Oct 22 You experience a renewal of energy and vitality now, and it’s a strong time for increased personal confidence. You are more decisive and forwardlooking now, and you put more faith in your own abilities. This is an excellent cycle for making personal changes in your manner or appearance, and for any self-improvement endeavors. Personal projects that you begin now are likely to blossom nine months down the road. This is the time of year when personal finances and possessions receive maximum attention.
SCORPIO Oct 23 – Nov 21
This is the most “financial” period of the year for you. You are more attracted to objects and possessions that give you a sense of comfort, status, or luxury now. At this point in the year you can be quite resistant to change. This is a time when “comfort zones” are more important to you than usual--you value the familiar. Social interaction is emphasized during this period, and is for the most part light - heared. Give other people a little extra time and attention, and strengthen your connections.
AQUARIUS Jan 20 – Feb 18
Your love life is about to become very sweet for you. You are sorting through the experiences of the last several months, separating the worthwhile from the worthless. This is a good time to build your skills, to get organized, and to attend to your health and well being. It’s a great time to make improvements to your regular routines. Your self-esteem and your ego are tied up in the work you do and in the services you give.
PISCES
Feb 19 – Mar 19 Being involved with many assignments is always a positive development, and in this economy, it is doubly so. You should enjoy the projects you are working on. Teamwork will be strong, and for the most part, co-workers will be cheerful and helpful. Chances are, you are working on (or are about to work on) a project that is high profile and that will allow you to plant important professional seeds for the future. Perhaps you hear the clock ticking and would like to get on with your life, in terms of commitment and marriage.
