Espiche Golf, inland from the historic town of Lagos, opened in 2012 but feels mature beyond its years, and that’s because construction of the course actually started over 30 years ago! Set in an ecologically sensitive area, it took a long time to bring the project to fruition. What is Espiche like to play?

Four Seasons Fairways members Michele and Brian Hickey are big fans of Espiche Golf. “What I love about the Algarve is the sheer variety of golf on offer,” Michele says. “We like to mix playing local Quinta courses with those further afield – and Espiche Golf is one of our favourite days out. The course is always in good condition and the greens are very tricky. I love the views – especially from the Clubhouse – as well as the challenging golf.” If the wind is blowing, and your driver and fairway woods are misbehaving, Brian recommends that you take some spare balls with you. “If you hit your ball into the untamed rough, it’s gone!” says Brian. “But although I’ve left a good few balls que tiram partido das vistas panorâmicas enquanto desfrutamos de uma bebida ou de um aperitivo.

World’s prem ier golf des tination is the Algarve

At the 20th International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) annual golf tourism awards, held this time in Marrakech, the Algarve secured the top prize as Golf Destination of the Year. IAGTO is the influential body comprising 700 golf tour operators in 63 countries. It controls more than 87% of golf holiday packages sold globally.

To make the honour even more special, this year the award was for just one overall Golf Destination of the Year category, instead of separate awards for five geographical regions.

Most Four Seasons Fairways golfers are happy to play on their own or with friends. But many also like to join the competitions Carla and Diana organise for members and their guests on local courses. These members include John and Ilona Kilburn, who have three weeks’ membership in November.

Na 20ª edição da anual cerimónia de atribuição de prémios da Associação Internacional de Operadores Turísticos de Golfe (IAGTO sigla em inglês) realizada em Marraquexe, o Algarve foi galardoado com a distinção máxima de Melhor Destino de Golfe para 2020. A IAGTO é uma prestigiada associação composta por 700 operadores turísticos de golfe de 63 países, controlando entre si mais de 87% dos pacotes de férias golfistas vendidos a nível mundial.

Para tornar esta honra ainda mais especial, este ano o prémio contemplou apenas um único destino golfista em vez dos habituais cinco correspondentes às diferentes regiões geográficas.

Besides the weekly Stablefords, Four Seasons Fairways also organises two special annual competitions; The Masters’ held at at Christmas, and the open “Amateur Week” held the first week of February.

The Amateur Week was first launched in 2015 and

has since become the highlight of the Four Seasons Fairways golfing year. Held on the Vale do Lobo Ocean and Royal courses, it is open to anyone with a handicap certificate. The format has lots of variety, with a practice round and two individual Stableford competitions, as well as a team Texas Scramble. There’s a welcome cocktail party, daily buffet breakfast, transport to and from the courses and a prize giving dinner. The Masters

Para além da competição semanal no formato Stablefords, o Four Seasons Fairways organiza duas competições anuais especiais; o Masters, que se realiza no Natal, e a Semana Amadora, que decorre durante a primeira semana de fevereiro.

A Semana Amadora teve a sua primeira edição em 2015, tendo-se tornado desde então no principal evento golfista anual do Four Seasons Fairways. Realizada no Ocean Golf Course e no Royal Golf Course do Vale do Lobo, esta competição está aberta a qualquer pessoa com certificação de handicap. O formato é bastante variado, com uma ronda inicial de treino e duas competições Stableford, bem como um Texas Scramble. Há uma receção de boas-vindas, buffet diário de pequeno-almoço, transporte para os campos e um

jantar de atribuição de prémios.
