Kuwait’s FIFA world ranking has plummeted to it’s all time low finishing below Bhutan. 17 years ago, Kuwait annihilated Bhutan’s national team 20-0. Kuwait is currently ranked 181st in the world and is expected to drop further as a result of the crippling sports ban.

“ The problem with this club is nepotism. If the club rids itself from it we would be much better off. Some of the older players such as Bader Al Mutawa and Saleh Al Sheikh shouldn’t be playing anymore. ”

The presidential elections will take place on the 31st of October and since the previous president of the transitional KFA Fawaz Al Hassawi has pulled out of the race Sheikh Ahmed Al Youssef is now running unopposed. I would also like thank Mr. Khalid Al Ghanim for supporting my nomination.” As a result, this will mark the return of Al Youssef as president of the KFA for the second time after his first spell as president in 2004. Thus, becoming the tenth elected president in the history of the KFA after each of Jassem Al-Qatami, Issa Al-Hamad, Ahmad Al-Saadoun, Sheikh Salman

Sports fans hold high hopes for the next board of directors and its president Al Youssef to find a solution to lift the suspension as he brings a wealth of experience in dealing with FIFA and other international organizations. Giving him plenty of space to move towards defusing the crisis and reaching the desired goal of returning Kuwaiti football to international forums.

of Trade and Commerce and the Minister of Youth Mr. Khaled Al Rodhan to grant Al Arabi the 3 points. The match between Al Arabi and Al Kuwait took place on the 18th of November 2016 in the 6th round of the VIVA football league.
On the 19th of September, the Administrative Chamber of the Court of Appeal considered the appeal filed by the Public Authority for Sport (PAS) and Al Arabi Club against the judge’s initial decision to grant the three points in favor of Kuwait Club and decided to postpone the ruling to the 28th of next November 2017.
According to the law 34/2016, the administrative court is the last resort in litigating the conflict between the two clubs. The case goes back to the complaint submitted by Al Arabi Club to the Kuwait Football Association (KFA) regarding one of the players from Kuwait Club who played against them despite being suspended in a previous cup match.
The government had appealed the ruling of the Supreme Court, which was to cancel the decision of the Youth and Sports Authority to extract the three points from Kuwait Club and grant them to Al Arabi under the pretext that Kuwait Club played the match in question with suspended players.
In the last game week of last season Al Kuwait SC beat Al Salmiya 2-1 and Al Qadsia defeated Khaitan Club 4-0. As a result, Al Kuwait SC was crowned champions for the 13th time in their history the ruling the will be issued on the 18th of November may result in taking away the title from Al Kuwait SC and handing it to Al Qadsia.
Previously, the administrative court had ruled in favor of Al Kuwait SC who appealed the decision of the Minister

aser and Maitham Al Shatti, the most promising Kuwaiti football coaches in the nation, climbed the ranks and built a stainless reputation for themselves in the coaching world over the past few years. After years of coaching Al Arabi’s under 17s, under 19s, and first
team, they were dealt a raw deal by the executive board of the club. Around 4 months of coaching the first team, Al Arabi poached Kuwait’s coaching giant Mohammed Ibrahim, leaving no option for the brothers but to resign from their post and leave the club. Fourteen interviewed coaching prodigies Naser and Maitham and discussed life after Al Arabi and their future.
“ I t w a s q uite stressf u l and It was the fir s t time in K u w a i t ’ s f ootba ll history to have c oac he s take c harg e of t h ree dif f erent age gr oups in one s e as on.” life after al arabi After leaving Al Arabi, Naser and Maitham received several offers from different clubs in Kuwait, but decided to pass on the offers and take a break from coaching instead. Having overseen the under 17s, under 19s, and the first team all in the same season, the constant change and demanding roles they occupied took a toll on Maitham and Naser.
Jalil Marvin
“It was quite stressful and I think this was the first time in Kuwait’s football history to have coaches take charge of three different age groups in one season - especially in a club the size of Al Arabi that expects to win the league in all age groups,” said Maitham describing their experience. Naser expanded on the offers they received, “Thankfully our hard work in the past couple of years has helped us build an impressive reputation, and as a result, after leaving
14
Al Arabi we received coaching offers from all the big clubs such as Al Qadsiya, Kuwait SC, and Kazma. But as soon as we walked away from Al Arabi, both Maitham and I decided that we need a break this season.” Naser further described their strenuous season, saying “People need to understand that although we are professionals, coaching is not our full-time job. We both have jobs that start from 7 am and end at 3 pm, and after a long day at work, we start
fourteen
coaching at 5pm. We coached two different age groups and would get home around 9 pm physically and mentally exhausted.” A l t h o u g h c u r re nt l y o n a b re a k from coaching, Maitham and Naser have kept themselves busy and are enriching their coaching knowledge through unique experiences in some of the biggest clubs in the world. Maitham elaborates saying, “Last summer I was in Evian, France and Athletico Madrid were camping in the same city training for the new season of the La Liga. I got in touch with them and was able to schedule a unique opportunity to shadow their coaching staff for a week, with access to all their training sessions and meetings. Moreover, in January, we will join Bayern Munich’s coaching staff for a similar experience. So, we are setting up learning opportunities at some of the most successful clubs in Europe to strengthen our knowledge and prepare ourselves for the next big challenge.”
transforming world class experiences This won’t be the first time Maitham a n d N a s e r s h a d ow wo r l d c l a s s coaches as they have previously s h a d o w e d A n to n i o C o n te , Pe p Guardiola, and Andre Villas-Boas. Maitham explains that a clever coach is one that is able to transform and adapt training sessions that other coaches use in order to suit their own team’s needs. In addition, coaches need to be brave enough to want to apply new training techniques and shake up the system. It is easy for coaches to hide behind excuses and continue coaching in the same old way, never challenging themselves or their players. Moreover, Maitham elaborates on how they were able to apply some of the skills they learned in these experiences, “When we first started coaching Al Arabi’s U19s, other coaches approached us and warned

Although we no longer coach the team, that culture still exists and we are proud that we built a team of winners.”

mid-season, they will first have to assess the offer and the season objectives before committing to anything. Naser recalls his experience with Al Arabi, “Some people faulted us for not signing a contract with Al Arabi, but for me, sometimes a gentlemen’s agreement or a handshake is more binding than a contract.” Naser further explained, “ To be honest with you, we would both rather start working with a team from the start of the season as opposed to taking over mid-season. But if we receive an offer that meets

our expectations and our ambitions, that we would consider accepting.” Maitham also recalls his experience at Al Arabi, “It ’s important for us before accepting any coaching job to assess whether the season objectives set by the club’s administration are achievable and realistic or not. More importantly, it’s important to get a feel for the kinds of people you will have to work with.” Maitham continues, “For example, Al Arabi’s administration doesn’t have a clear vision for the club. So, you will always hear them in the media

“The most valuable lesson was learning to get eve r y t h i n g i n writing, not to just count on p e o p l e’ s w o r d s .” changing their goals for the season. They always start the season with the objective of winning the league, then they lose a couple of games and go out in the media claiming that they are working on building a team for next year. Later if they win a few games in a row they will come back with ‘we are here to fight for the title.’ It’s problematic for anyone to work in these conditions without a clear vision or plan, and such clubs don’t work towards growing the club or winning competitions, they only care about club elections and how to win votes.” Naser supported Maitham’s statement regarding club elections, “It ’s very disappointing that in any club in Kuwait it is near impossible for any coach to get a job if they don’t have some form of allegiance with a member of the executive board or can win the sitting executive board votes in the next elections.”
lessons learned Naser talked with Fourteen about what they’ve learned from the past, saying, “The most disappointing part of our experience so far is that we always dreamt of coaching a senior squad, and after working hard and finally accomplishing our dream, we were evaluated and edged out by a bunch of people who don’t understand football and are only interested in elections.” He continued

were going through a rough time, we didn’t shy away from the challenge nor did we hesitate to face it. The lesson that I learned is that we were able to show everyone how brave we are and that was appreciated, as a result I have no regrets.”

NUTRITION

ell done! So, you’ve made a decision to join in Kuwait’s Top Season of Marathons, Triathlons, and all sort of fitness competitions. Here are quick tips to help you be prepared nutritionally.
of easily absorbed and digested carbohydrates, along with fructose from fruits. Remember your stomach may be experiencing butterflies before the race and this is normal, due to the excitement and the hormonal changes in the body.
BEFORE THE RACE
However, if you are not used to breakfast in the mornings, I do not advise you to force yourself - you don’t want to force your body into something new the day of an important event. What can you do instead? An easy Milk Shake! Shakes can be a whole meal if you are smart about what you put in it.
The night before, make sure you have proper meals throughout the day rather than only focusing on heavy carbs for dinner. You definitely need carbohydrates to restore your glycogen store in the liver, but you also need to make sure that you have the proper amount of protein. In preparing your meals, ensure that your meal is not high in fat, as it will not aid in digestion. Even though you may always hear that complex carbs keep you satisfied longer and are great for the blood glucose level, pre-race it’s a different game. We need easily digested carbs to be available as a quick restore for your energy. Finally, keep your food clean. The last thing you want is a bloated or gaseous stomach during the race, or even prerace disturbing your sleep. 2-4 HRS PRE-RACE
Usually, race are held early morning and although it is usually advisable to have breakfast 4 hours before a race, in this case you’d want to aim for 2 hours. This way you can get the right amount of sleep and still make certain you’re body has the energy it needs for the day. Your meal should consist

DURING THE RACE:
If you are doing a long distance race you may need an extra power boost midway. This option may differ from person to person, so make sure you listen to your body. If you feel tired, dizzy, or out of energy, make sure you take 30-45grams of simple carbs - this could be glucose softgel, a carbohydrate snack bar, or simply another banana, 3 dates, or 125ml fruit juice. 30 MINUTES POST-RACE:
Carbohydrates: Simple carbs and complex carbs. By that, I mean fruitbased carbs followed up with a piece of whole wheat bread or cereal. Proteins: The last thing you want is to deplete your muscles. Make sure you have enough proteins, so you can either have your protein shake ready, a protein bar ready or head to eat a proper meal.
28
Hydration: Make sure you have enough hydration through continuous regular water intake throughout the day. Coconut water or sports drinks such as Gatorade can be good options as well. Hydration not only restores your electrolytes, it also maintains your body temperature and keeps your heart beating in the right way after elevating it higher after the race. AFTER THE RACE:
Sorry, we’re not done yet! Up to 48 hrs post-race is when you get the most impact out of what you did. Our body will continues working optimally 4 hours after high endurance activity. After that, it will constantly be using up every meal that you eat for the next 48 hrs. So, make sure you get back to a healthy routine. Avoid junk or fast food. Your body might be starving for nutrients and energy, so whatever you’re giving it, it will soak it up and store it. So, would you prefer your storage to be as glycogen and protein to build up those muscles or an extra dose of sugars and fats that will add on extra fat storage? Your decision! Best options: Pasta (avoid creamy sauces) + grilled lean Proteins + veggies Baked Potato + Grilled Lean Proteins + Veggies Salad + tuna or grilled chicken sandwich Eggs + Toasts +Yoghurt. www.dalalimpact.com/ @dalalimpactkw

PLAN YOUR WEEK F O R B E T T E R E AT I N G Written by Faisal Al Shawa | Founder of Believe Nutrition

he rise in technology over the years has changed our shopping behaviors’. It ’s easy to drift away and eat on the fly. Meals are becoming easily accessible and more often than not delivered right to your doorstep. Of course when eating on the fly, we tend to make unhealthy eating decisions because of the lack of healthy options. But, what if you thought ahead of time and actually planned your week correctly? What if you created a system for yourself that will allow you to stick to healthy eating? Grocery shopping at the start of every week is an incredibly powerful yet easy system to put in place. Sure, it may require multiple visits, but believe you me it will keep you on the right track to healthy eating. For me,

smarter shopping is healthier eating. Let me explain to you what I mean. 1. Kitchen Essentials
Start the week right and go grocery shopping on a Saturday. This visit requires you to get the basics for cooking, like oils, spices and herbs. It’s also an opportunity for you to get foods that have a long shell life, such as grains and seeds. Once you have the basics down, you’ll feel more inclined to cook your own meals. 2. The Saturday Primer
Take an hour from your day on a Saturday and get all the essentials you need for the week. Make this a bulk grocery-shopping visit so you can avoid endless visits to the supermarket! Again, buying foods ahead of time will better help you plan
32
your meals and eat home cooked, healthy food. 3. The Refresher
If you feel like you need extra ingredients, or thought of a new recipe and need new ingredients, make Tuesday the refresher. All you need is 20-30 minutes at your local grocery store to top any item you may need. There you have it, a 3-point system that will allow you to shop smarter and eat healthier. A healthy lifestyle requires some time and effort, and this is one example that you need to put some effort in. Believe me, once you have all your cooking essentials, foods and ingredients, you’ll feel more motivated to plan your meals throughout the week and eat the healthy way!

I want to build a brand that people can relate to; one that can later develop into a culture and a lifestyle. I have many exciting ideas for the future and I am thinking of the many thrilling possibilities for Lyfe Cycle.
I’ve also launched a Lyfe Bar. I feel that one of the things I have really struggled to find here in Kuwait is a healthy juice bar where you can walk in and place an order for a shot of wheatgrass or a shot of ginger, or any green juice at all.
I am currently experimenting with delivering sessions at the gym. I have not yet fully advertised any classes as we are still in the piloting phase and I am therefore relying more on word-of-mouth and immediate client feedback on the sessions we offer. We have started piloting abs/core sessions, and there will be many more classes to come soon.
Because of this, I would like to offer an alternative to the customary sugar-laden cocktail juices most people are familiar with in Kuwait. Life Bar would be a standalone initiative where we would provide a variety of healthy green juices and mixes that meet our clients’ needs and cater to a clearly untapped market. Another project I am really keen on is starting a fitness exhibition/meet that would be to fitness what Qoot Market is to food and restaurants in Kuwait.
Besides abs/core classes and Pilates, I am planning to introduce a Booty Class, where the focus would be on developing glutes, and a kettle bell class.
I want to invite gym owners and health enthusiasts from all over the country to come together to promote healthy living and market their products in one place at one time. It would be great if this idea grows to become the most important health and fitness expo in the country.”
I am in the process of becoming a certified kettle bell trainer and once I complete the certification process the classes will start. I also want to start Spin-Campstyle classes that incorporate spinning and boot camp elements in one session.
