From our Fraud Department: Card Security at Gas Pumps

New Digital Banking Feature: Stop Payment

Many gas stations are requiring payment before pumping gas. With that in mind, here are a few tips to keep your card numbers safe from scammers and their skimming devices:

In an effort to make life easier for our members, Fox Digital Banking users can now add a stop payment on an individual check or series of checks,* from within Digital Banking. Thanks to authentication steps already in place for Digital Banking users, there is no need for any additional forms or signatures** to complete the stop payment request for your check.

• Make sure the gas pump panel is closed and doesn’t show signs of tampering. Many stations now place security seals over the cabinet panel. If the pump panel is opened, the label will read “void.” • Look at the card reader itself. Does it look different than other readers at the station? • Try to wiggle the card reader before inserting your card. If it moves, report it. • Run your debit card as credit instead of entering a PIN. It’ll keep your PIN safe, and the funds won’t be deducted immediately. • Still uneasy about it, pre-pay inside. • Monitor your accounts regularly and report any odd activity to us immediately at 920-993-9000. Federally Insured by NCUA.

To stop payment on a check(s) using your Fox app, simply log in and select Menu, then Services and Stop Payment. From there, review the stop payment terms, then simply fill out the Form (Account Number and Check Number are Required Fields) and select Request Stop Payment. You will then receive a message “stop payment successful” once your request has been submitted. The stop payment fee*** will then be charged to your account.

Our Auto Buying Specialist shares a question often asked: Should you keep looking after finding the perfect vehicle? The short and simple answer to this question is no, yet so many feel the need to keep looking even after they’ve found “the one.” As someone who’s been in the auto business for a long time, this has always been something I’ve never understood – people come in and drive a specific vehicle that they are interested in, tell us that it’s exactly what they are looking for, but they still want to keep looking. Even in my current role here at Fox, I still hear about this. I know making a big decision like purchasing a vehicle can be stressful, and everyone wants to get the “best deal” – but unless you know what that is, how will you know when it presents itself? Unfortunately, the end result is members wishing they had not waited because by the time they realize that they had found the one, it’s too late. My advice would be this: If the vehicle you found checks all the boxes, then it’s the one. And if you need help finding the one, I’m here to help. Reach out to me or visit foxcu.org/auto-loan.
