Reasons to have a Health Savings Account (HSA)
The importance of naming a beneficiary/beneficiaries
No doubt about it, medical expenses (even if you have health insurance coverage) can be steep. However, if your policy has a high deductible, you may be able to use a Health Savings Account to pay some out-of-pocket medical expenses at a tax advantage.
A beneficiary is typically a person (or people) that you want to receive certain assets when you pass away. Naming a beneficiary can help your loved ones avoid disagreements, legal proceedings, and eliminate waiting periods.
HSAs allow you to save pre-tax funds for certain medical expenses that aren’t covered by insurance. Contributions to these accounts reduce your taxable income. Withdrawals and investment earnings are tax free as long as you use the money for qualified healthcare costs. Even better, you may be able to deduct your HSA contributions on your income taxes, whether you itemize or take the standard deduction.
