SAFE ACTIVE FUN ENRICHMENT - SAFE SAFE is our before and after school-based program for students in Yorkville, Plano, Sandwich, Somonauk, and Newark School Districts. The program offers homework assistance, creative enrichment activities, supervised athletic play and many social activities for children. A light breakfast snack is served in the morning and a snack is also served in the afternoon. Our SAFE program is conveniently located right in area schools. AM and PM care is offered in Yorkville, Plano, and Newark grade schools. Sandwich and Somonauk grade schools currently offer PM care only. Morning care begins at 6:30am and runs until school begins. Afternoon care begins immediately after dismissal until 6:00pm, including early dismissal days. There is no SAFE program on days that school is closed due to inclement weather and other emergencies. You will find professional and dependable care for your K-6 student in our SAFE program. Our staff model and teach the YMCA core values of caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty in their work with the children. Each of our sites has a staff to child ratio of 1:12 (or less). All YMCA staff members are background checked, CPR and first aid trained, and have taken child abuse prevention courses. Flexible attendance options and convenient payment plans (Semi-Monthly and Monthly Draft options) are available. We accept DHS payments for childcare and have the YMCA scholarship program for those who qualify. All SAFE students will receive a FREE YOUTH MEMBERSHIP when they enroll in the SAFE program as well as discounted Family Memberships which includes Free Kids Zone. Activity Days, Winter Break, and Spring Break camp are included at no additional fee for full-time SAFE students (AM/PM - 5 Days). FOX VALLEY FAMILY YMCA
EARLY LEARNING ACADEMY SIX WEEKS TO AGE FIVE The YMCA Early Learning Academy at our Central Branch in Plano provides enriching experiences that facilitate a child’s cognitive social, physical, and emotional growth. We use Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold Assessment Tool, both are research based and designed to prepare your child for lifelong learning. These strategies focus on building a classroom community and strengthening social/emotional skills while integrating content learning in the areas of math, language and literacy, science, social studies and the arts. We strive to meet the developmental needs and temperament of each child by working in partnership with families. Our child care and preschool, licensed by the State of Illinois, provide a curriculum focused on education, leadership, and character development. At the Y we believe that the first five years of life are the foundation for future success in school and beyond. We help children develop positive behaviors and values that stay with them throughout their life. The Early Learning Academy taps into each child’s unique strengths and interests to help develop confident learners. Using the Creative Curriculum in both our child care and preschool gives parents the option for full day, full year care OR half day preschool. The Early Learning Academy offers the perfect balance of learning through play and intentional teaching. Using science, social studies and “first hand” experiences as a segue to learning, children develop confidence, creativity, and critical thinking skills necessary for Kindergarten.
WHY CHOOSE THE FOX VALLEY FAMILY YMCA'S EARLY LEARNING ACADEMY? YMCA Youth Membership included with Early Learning Academy registration, plus discounted Family Memberships and Free Kids Zone Teaching Strategies Gold Assessment System is utilized in all classrooms and aligns to the Common Core State Standards. FULL DAY / FULL YEAR 0-3 YEARS PROGRAM INFANTS
6 WEEKS - 15 MONTHS In the infant classroom, our primary emphasis is meeting the infant’s daily needs and providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment. Children are provided experiences that foster and develop their cognitive, social/ emotional, and motor skills while encouraging their independence. Infants are engaged in developmentally appropriate toys, books, stories and finger plays throughout the day. They are learning through routines and attachments to their caregivers. Infant daily nap and meal schedule are based on the infant’s individual needs.
TODDLERS
16-24 MONTHS In the toddler classroom, children are introduced to a more structured and regular routine. Children are provided an environment that encourages exploration and curiosity through child-initiated and teacher-guided activities. Toddlers have opportunities to make choices in art, sensory, exploration, problem-solving, music, books, self-help skills, and interactive play. The toddler classroom provides a rest time as part of the daily schedule.
TWOS In the two’s classroom, the children discover a stimulating environment arranged into various interest and learning centers. Our goal for our two year olds include: developing valuable self-help skills such as potty training, personal hygiene, dressing and putting toys away. We also focus on building cognitive skills, such as counting, sorting, recognizing letters, colors and shapes. Another important skill we work on is interacting with others. We have many opportunities for sharing, listening and taking turns. The two’s classroom provides a rest time as part of the daily schedule.

CHILD NUTRITION PROGRAM The Fox Valley Family YMCA Early Learning Academy and Before and After School programs are proud to partner with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) to provide nutritious food that contributes to the wellness, healthy growth, and development of young children. CACFP ensures that children in child care receive a nutritious diet and learn good eating habits through nutrition education. CACFP has also been shown to improve the quality of care. The Early Learning Academy serves Family-Style Meals. This method supports independence, social skills, healthy eating and more. Children who are given the opportunity to actively participate in mealtime learn and practice important skills like passing and serving food and drinks, table manners, preparing for meals and cleaning up. They are encouraged to try new foods and to serve themselves appropriate portions. In addition, family-style food service also develops skills in the areas of fine motor, language and social skills. Children will build their self-esteem and develop independence. They will have opportunities to learn about food and the importance of healthy eating. While in our Before and After School Program (SAFE), children will be served a nutritious breakfast before school and a healthy snack after school. Meals and snacks are nut sensitive. In line with the Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) Standards, the SAFE program provides healthy foods and eliminates fried foods and sugary drinks.
