*CALL TO WORSHIP (Psalm 91)
You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, say to the Lord, whom you trust, “You are my refuge and my fortress.”
Lord, you are my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust. He will deliver you from the traps of the greedy. He will help you to see through the lies of the manipulative. Under his wings, you will find refuge. Therefore, I will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrows that fly by day, or the pestilence that stalks in the shadows. For you, Lord, are my refuge and my fortress.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God, our mighty fortress, we have placed too much trust in mortals and paid the price. We have believed too-good-to-be-true promises and were betrayed. We were afraid to question authority and ignored our own convictions. We have allowed lies to become truth and have stood aside to allow others to have power over us.
Forgive us, Lord, for we put too much faith in pastors, we put too much trust in politicians, we follow some leaders like sheep, and so we replace you with mere mortals.
Note: Leaders: regular font | People: bold font | *Those who are able, please stand.
*HYMN OF PRAISE NO. 275 A Mighty Fortress Is Our God
We have forsaken you, the mighty fortress, for a house built on the sand. In this silence, hear our confession and restore our faith in you, O Christ alone.
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
Hear the Good News! Who is in a position to condemn? Only Christ, and Christ died for us, Christ rose for us, Christ reigns in power for us, Christ prays for us. Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation. The old life has gone; a new life has begun. Know that we are forgiven, and be at peace.
*GLORIAAmen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE | THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH “The Confession of 1967”
In Jesus of Nazareth, true humanity was realized once for all. Jesus, a Palestinian Jew, lived among his own people and shared their needs, temptations, joys, and sorrows. He expressed the love of God in word and deed and became a brother to all kinds of sinful people. But his complete obedience led him into conflict with his people. His life and teachings judged their goodness, religious aspirations, and national hopes. Many rejected him and demanded his death. In giving himself freely for them, he took upon himself the judgement under which all people stand convicted. God raised him from the dead, vindicating him as Messiah and Lord. The victim of sin became victor, and won the victory over sin and death for us all. Amen.
