Why did the English Language become a global language? In the 21st century, English is the world’s leading international language. People from Britain, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and some other countries speak English. The total number of English speakers in the world is estimated to be about 500 million; in fact, it is also the official language of international commerce, business, diplomacy, technology, science, tourism, andentertainment. Why did English become so important? The origin of this important position started in Britain, Europe, where English comes from. A Long time ago , many explorers and colonists sailed from the British Isles , conquered new lands around the world and took their language with them wherever they went. They traveled and settled in North America, in Australia , and other places. During the 19th century Britain was the most powerful colonial nation and became the British Empire. In the 20th century, the USA, that was a British colony, became The most powerful nation on earth, so they brought the English language to other countries through business with American international corporations and showbusiness with Hollywood and music. Therefore, Tthe English language spread worldwide. In short, nowadays we- live in a global world where people communicate through one universal language which is English. You have wide- open doors to better opportunities through speaking English , so you had better learn it to be in tune!
