hypothesis
Craftsmanship is not an anachronistic approach, but a new path towards flexible productions for glocal markets. Selling more stuff, even if eco-friendly and produced by craftsmen, is not a sustainable solution to the environmental crisis. We are witnessing a great disruption : it leads to a radical change from material consumption to collaborative consumption, from commercial, manufacturing issues to immaterial areas (strategy, service, system).
Service design is considered as a strategic process for shaping not new objects, but new relationships, triggering and scaling-up social innovation.
research questions
Which are the recurrent environmental impacts and benefits of craft production ? What will be the scope of craftsmanship in a social, economic, environmental
future scenario ?
How can service design be applied to develop an enabling ecosystem, boosting artisans’ communities towards sustainability and
social innovation ?
