Sussex Art Fairs (West) Landscape artist Frances Knight will showcase her latest work at an exciting new contemporary art fair in May based at the Goodwood Racecourse in the heart of the South Downs. Many of Frances' landscape paintings are inspired by the local Sussex countryside including the South Downs, Arun Valley and surrounding areas. Sussex Art Fairs (West) opens on Friday 17th May with the Private Viewing from 6-9pm, and visitors will be able to meet Frances, discuss her work and have an early opportunity to purchase her paintings. The art fair then opens to the general public across the weekend from 10am-6pm on Saturday 18th May to Sunday 19th May. Frances will be available at her stand throughout the duration of the art fair to greet visitors and share an insight into her paintings and art practice. Frances likes to paint outside directly from nature, exploring the effects of light, colour and structure on the landscape, then work on larger paintings from these studies once back in the studio. Interested in the interplay between abstraction and representation she seeks to express an inner dialogue between subjective experience and objective reality.

Frances Knight Frances Knight is a contemporary landscape artist. She likes to paint outside directly from nature exploring the effects of light, colour and structure on the landscape and then works on larger paintings from these studies once back in the studio. Interested in the interplay between abstraction and representation, she seeks to express an inner dialogue between subjective experience and objective reality. Frances enjoys painting the local Sussex and Hampshire landscapes, but also travels widely and paints in many different countries. She visits Provence and the Netherlands often, and has also painted in Alsace, Mallorca, Tuscany, India and the USA. After graduating from Camberwell School of Art, Frances won a Commonwealth and British Council Scholarship to complete her Master of Fine Arts in India. Frances worked as a professional painter for Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the Beatles' guru, and the Transcendental Meditation organisation, a non-profit charity dedicated to creating world peace, for more than 30 years. Frances has exhibited her work internationally as well as widely across the UK, and her paintings are in private collections in the UK, Europe, the USA, Canada and India.
"I am not so much interested in rendering the surface qualities of a landscape but in conveying the underlying structure, colour and atmosphere. I like to explore the interaction between the abstract qualities of the two dimensional painted surface with the illusion of space." Frances Knight
