To create a cubical form, I started off with a 9’ x 8’ x 10’ solid component and three different positions including one or more operants who can or might interact with my design within the space. Stumbled upon the brick in the Student Union, I used the brick as an inpiration for my stacking system. After many tries of creating digital study models, I was able to finalize my Hermitage.

PARALLEL PLANES
Located in San Jose State University, CA, this project required using parallel planes that allow a body to move through 11 planes to experience different views from the path. The goal is to allow students, teachers and other people to interact with the design, providing public and private spaces.

TRAFFIC OF PEOPLE
People are more active on the top area, less on the bottom. While the center barely has any activity. Using this site analysis for inspiration, parallel planes were rotate based of from the level of movements from the two areas. Top planes rotates faster than the bottom inward to attract people to enter the path.

Mostly located on the top area regardless most of the people are walking there. Steps were created more on the top than the bottom so many people enter into the path way to avoid getting injured or being in the way of the cart.

CONCEPT IDEA
To help benefit people, my design is to help them to have their own private or public space. From the sides to the center, the center of the frame will gradually fade until the center disappears so people can interact more in the center. The sides are more for private areas to talk with friends or work on homework.

Toyo ito, Facade renovation “Suites Avenue Aparthotel”
Inspired by Toyo Ito’s designs and inspirations, using water, wind, and air, I have to design a 10’ x 14’1” kiosk called Sea Chimes in Long Beach Nassau County, NY. This Sea Chime kiosk is designed to help customers to experience these elements as they enter within the space while feeling relax and refresh. By creating this metaphor wave like structure, people will be able to feel the sense of movement of the wind and water.

PREFAB HOME NORTH
Prefabricated homes (Prefab) are built with different manufactured components that are shipped and assembled off-site. The Prefab design was created to meet the needs and requirements for the newly wed couples, Sherry and Brian Kam. The couple wished for the Prefab to be located in 3189 Tulip Way, San Ramon, CA 94582 with a first floor of 1024 square feet and a second floor of 526 square feet. They hope to incorporate an office in their Prefab home. Prefab Home Requirements: 1000 sq. ft. with an office unit of a 500 sq. ft.

IDEA While sketching, brainstorming, and considering the newlywed’s needs and requirements, I placed the private space away from the public areas. That way, when, either Mr. or Ms. Kam bring people for an office meeting, they will not go upstair to their room. Circulation had a big role in this design to allow the couple and guests to walk freely without any stumbling blocks. I also combined the the waiting room with the living room. The dinner table with the conference meeting to minmize adding more space. First Schematic Design

FINAL DESIGN After creating a study model, I placed myself in my client’s shoes to “walk” through the space to see if it met their needs and requirements. Resulting in errors and researching more ideas. I finalized my design that can benefit the newly wed couple.

Using light simple colors, I wanted the fabrics of the sheets to play the accent colors. I used dark laminated wood to ground the space, which is also not only easy to maintain, but also helps to solve some allergy issues.

Working in a team of 2, Adrianna Hamzelue, and I are assigned to design a hotel located at 366 West 15th Street, NYC, NY, which is known as the Terrene Hotel. Slowly developing designs that will be part of the hotel, we had to create two wallpapers, a light fixture, and a tessalation wall also known as Paper, Printer, Plus (+). Dividing the work, compromising the design, and finalizing the project, we hoped to use our inspiration and wrapped it around the hotel to allow people to be able to feel and experience how it would be like to be within the cracked space.

INSPIRATIONS

Inspiration was found using crack forms on the surface of the earth. Due to weather climates, the material becomes brittle and rigid that form a crack. The process creates a wide variety of shapes and patterns across the exterior of the terrain. This design embodies & explores the triangular shards that are produced when intense climate bonds with nature.

Researching on cracks forming from cold temperature, I noticed when the ice cracks are formed and started to depart from each other,one will notice the darkness below the white surface. Within the crack, we visulize an abyss. We were very inspired of the outcome and developed this wallpaper to allow people to view an abyss being formed on the wall from the crack. To avoid too literal, I made it a little more abstract while retaining the original visuals of the wallpaper.

In opposition of the coolness of the crack, Hamzelue researched how cracks form from heat. We noticed the top coat would peel off from the earth as it forms an outer line from the heat of the sun. She designed this wallpaper to represent the heat of the earth so people can view the dry crack on the wall.

To create a light fixture, we focused on having the people to be able experience how it would feel to be surrounded by cracks. We decided to create a table top light fixture called “Crackles”. We wanted people to interact with these light fixtures, touching as they look around the space while the light illuminstates the holes, creating an illusion of having a crack on the walls. 1

We were able to explore the 3D print for our light fixture. Using the material, white nylon, we wanted the table top light fixture to have an clean yet glowing effect.

Using the same design concept and process, we also wanted to create a non-standard tesselation wall then subdive some of the tesselation pieces to create a crack path on the wall. To make the wall more unique, we added artificial back lighting to make the cracks more visible so people can enjoy this non-standard tessleation wall as it lights up.
