A DAY IN THE LIFE

of a THE MAX Challenge franchisee
At one point in his life Chad Tunison had no interest in the fitness industry. Now he’s a proud owner of a THE MAX Challenge franchise, a New Jersey-based company, which currently has more than 100 locations. After attending THE MAX Challenge, he couldn’t shake his attraction to it. “Something kept bringing me back. There wasn’t anything like this. This truly is a different business model,” explained Tunison. Together with his wife Charly and mother Sheila, Tunison took a leap of faith and opened a franchise location in Fishers, Indiana, in June 2018.
The atmosphere is fun, there’s no denying that, but with that fun, comes a great deal of hard work, though truly, the Tunisons will tell you it doesn't feel all that much like work. The family shares the operational and management responsibilities. Though THE MAX Challenge can be operated semi-absentee, Charly and Chad have chosen to be very hands-on, teaching classes daily along with a growing staff of instructors. As parents of three young children, the Tunisons work together to ensure all bases are covered.
THE MAX Challenge is open five days a week, Monday through Friday. They hold 45-minute classes in morning hours beginning at 5 am and then again in the early evening, but close during the middle of the day. On the weekends they do something exceptional. The Tunisons open the center to hold classes for local children, as well as additional classes to help support their members who are participating in local fitness events; Just one of the many ways this family chooses to go above and beyond for their community.
The importance of community transcends through much of what the Tunisons do and has played a major role in their success. “There’s a lot of relationship building that goes into it,” Tunison said. Whether it’s developing relationships with businesses in the community to distribute marketing materials, collaborating on MAX compliant menus with local restaurants, or creating partnerships with area medical programs, Chad is always working on ways to build the brand in the local area. The Tunisons' commitment to building relationships is what sets this family business apart and has allowed them to positively impact the lives of more than 500 members to date.
