Roll with the Punches

A desire for a better work-life balance led this former police sergeant to a new career

Jennifer August enjoyed her career in law enforcement but wanted a change for the sake of her family. “I needed a more flexible schedule,” says the former police sergeant. “Family-friendly hours just aren’t realistic for cops.”

August always wanted to run her own business, and she knew that being part of a franchise system would give her a greater chance for success. During her search, Jabz Boxing Fitness for Women stood out for many reasons. “There is nothing like it out there,” she says about the 45-minute circuit workout program. August recognized a need in her area for a women’s-only gym. “Women of all fitness levels can participate in this high-energy program. The demand is real and I wanted in,” she says.

After monitoring the success of Jabz for a while, August took a leap of faith and resigned from the police force in November 2018. She opened her Jabz Studio in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, in April 2019. With an initial investment of approximately $130,000, August enjoyed more than $20,000 in revenue from her first month in business.

August is thrilled with her decision and is getting much more out of her business than simply a flexible schedule. “We are helping people change their lives with this program. Clients are always thanking me for the newfound happiness and empowerment they have gained through Jabz. It doesn't get much better than that,” she says. Learn more at www.jabzfranchising.com
