lisbon architecture triennale . international competition: a house in luanda: patio and pavilion. the aim is to create a replicable model that reflects the social, economic and cultural specificity of luanda, with the idea that this model should weave the urban fabric of the city, using systems, practices and materials which are commonly found in local architecture.

international ideas competition: “innovation and quality in educational facilities”. quinta do peru secondary school – sesimbra. the school consists of a base from which a series of courtyards are carved out, with trees that characterise the common areas and areas for specific activities - the library, the auditorium and the canteen. The volume which contains the classrooms is aligned towards the arrábida hills, from which a platform, containing spaces for physical education and sports, is projected. on the south side, the ground floor contains workshops, taking advantage of the existing topography.

international ideas competition: “innovation and quality in educational facilities” the main characteristic of the terrain is a small pine tree forest that dominates the eastern side of the lot. the main objective aimed at establishing a direct relation with the pine trees, in which these would belong to, and organise the proposal’s spaces. Given the terrain’s topography and orientation, we believed the north/south axis was also most appropriate for that of the main architectural body.

finish master degree in architecture at the university of lisbon, portugal. oriented by the teachers: arch. carlos lampreia da silva, presenting the final thesis architecture on the ground” receiving the final

of architecture of lusíada university alberto de souza oliveira and arch. with the title: “base: the touch of qualification of 17 (0-20) values.

presentation Interest on the study of an architectural base arises from the doubt, and curiosity, of how a building makes contact with the ground. An architectural base is the result of the encounter between artificial and natural mass. This architectural component marks territory and consequently determines man’s occupation of place. The mark on natural matter underlines and defines habitable space. The will to understand how a contemporary anchoring of a building reaches an equilibrium between the natural and the artificial stimulated not only the final 5th year architecture project (Projecto III), but more importantly, the overall academic journey. The present paper searched for a point of equilibrium of the anchoring to the ground in the contemporary context, which finds itself suffocated in an overdose of possible technological solutions. This search was done by starting with the study of the foundations of classic and modern architecture. “Base”, therefore, can be defined as an instrument for architectural project design, an active element in the creative process, and not a mere structural gesture. A point of reference which demonstrates the materialisation of this process is the architecture of Álvaro Siza Vieira. An aim of the present study is the understanding of how a base, as an element of structural support, can obtain an architectural quality which builds place and maintains continuity in the landscape, this being the point in which art and technique meet. This union between the natural and the artificial constructs the base: architecture makes contact with the ground, a contemporary anchor.(Francisco Xavier Pereira Nóbrega)
