CASHION WILDCATS
THE CASHION WILDCATS with three shutouts in 15 games. The Wildcats have a great nondistrict opener as they travel out east to play Class 2A Rejoice Christian on Aug. 28. The Eagles only loss in 2019 was also to Ringling in the Class A state semi-finals,28-19. The Wildcats then return home on Sept. 4 for a game with Class 2A Perry, a 2019 play-off qualifier.
The Cashion Wildcats open the 2020 season looking for a return trip to the play-offs and redemption after finishing second in 2019 falling to Ringling in the state finals last December. The cupboard was not left bare despite the lost seniors from the 2019 team. The Wildcats will have to navigate through a new district that now includes 2018 Class A State Champion Tonkawa, Watonga, and OBA. The Wildcats will rely on junior quarterback Ben Harman, running back Caden Harrell and Brexten Green to lead the offense. Harrell and Green will also be key components on the defense in 2020. The Wildcats return nine players on the defense in 2020 that allowed less than ten points a game in 2019
The Wildcats close out the non-district schedule with games at Minco and home against Thomas-Fay Custer, both 2019 play-off teams. The district schedule and play-off positioning will probably come down to the last two weeks of the season with Tonkawa and Crescent both having to come to Cashion this year. Senior night would be Nov. 6 against Crescent if the season makes it that far.

Coyle Bluejackets There will be a lot of new looks for the Coyle football team this season. First Marcus Cooper who has been at the school since 2004 is now the head coach, taking over for Shane Weathers who became athletic director and Dean of Students this year. The school got moved to an eastern district for the 2020 season which means at least two road trips of four hours each way to play football on Friday night. The Bluejackets will also rely on freshmen to fill some spots this season as there are seven of the 13 spots on the roster are first year players. The Bluejackets over the past several seasons have usually had 20-23 players on the team for depth purposes. It will be a key issue to stay healthy in 2020. The good news for the Bluejackets is that they do not play in zero week which gives them an extra week of scrimmages to work on positioning and just the speed of the game for the freshman.
Junior wide receiver/ defensive back Chris Boynton is probably the most talented returner and will be the focus of the opposition defense in 2019. Seniors Gage Noble and Caleb Martin will be counted on to lead the young team through the season. Filling that role will be key since Damon Caine ran for 3,254 yards in 2019 and accounted for 348 of the Bluejackets 426 points, they scored in 2019. Boyton and some freshmen are going to have to fill those roles. The quarterback is an unknown factor and will probably fall on the shoulders of a couple of freshman candidates. Look for the Bluejackets to run multiple offenses, with Caleb Martin and Austin Derousha playing big roles in the blocking schemes in 2020. The defense will have a basic 3-2 look as the freshmen get acclimated to the game. “We have some
good athletes, but this is the first time we have ever relied on this many freshman. We will have to identify some skill players from the freshmen group. Play-offs are always our goal, said Cooper. The key game of the year could be the first district game of 2020 when Sasakwa returns to Coyle on Sept.25. The Vikings will be led by running back Thomas Rompf who ran through the Bluejacket defense last year in the first round of the play-offs leading the visitors to a 70-60 win in Coyle. Homecoming this season is scheduled for Oct. 9 against Maud and because of scheduling, Senior Night is two weeks later, Oct. 23 against Oaks. The Bluejackets finish the season on the road with critical play-off implication games at Midway and at Graham-Dustin on Oct. 30 and Nov.6 Coyle will open the season with home games against Pioneer (Sept.3) and Yale (Sept.11). It will be a challenging year for the Bluejackets in 2020.

CRESCENT TIGERS
2020
Schedule
The Crescent Tigers football team in 2020 will have to rely on some early season games to see what happens. The team lost seven seniors off a disappointing 4-6 team in 2019 with three of them being major contributors. The Tigers will have a squad of 32 players this season and 20 of them are freshmen. There are five seniors to lead the way. The sophomore and junior class make up the remaining seven players on the squad. So not only the inexperienced squad is a concern, but the Tigers are in a revamped
district that saw Crossing Christian, Minco and Christian Heritage get moved out. In their place is 2018 Class A State Champion Tonkawa (Oct. 2) and Watonga (Oct.15). Class A runner-up Cashion and rival is now the last game on the schedule this season (Nov. 6) with a play-off spot may be up for grabs. That game is in Cashion on Nov. 6. Coach JL Fisher starts his 12th season as head coach and 23rd year of coaching all together. The coach will have two senior quarterbacks to run his multiple offensive formations. Hunter Wilmoth will be the runner of the two quarterbacks and will also see action at the wide receiver
position. Cade Watkins is the bigger of the two quarterbacks and the better pocket passer. “We had more success when we were flipping Wilmoth and Watkins last season into situations the opposition was not ready for. We hope to be able to dictate similar situations in 2020,” said Fisher. The Tigers will rely on sophomore running back Luke Descher to handle the running attack after getting game experience as a freshman in 2019. Junior Tanyon Johnson will be the fullback and open some holes for the sophomore. Crescent has some big lineman that should help with not only pass protection but the run game. “I think this is the strength of our team,” said Fisher. The Tigers will rely on Reese
Brown, Jace Phelan, Alec Stevens, Stone Fisher, Gabe South, Nathan Jones, and Noah Johnson to hold down the line positions on the offense and the defense.
The defense will be a base 4-3 with the big guys in the middle of the line and seniors Gage Tontz and Reed Hopson returning to their linebacker positions for the 2020 season. Fisher said Cashion is still the top team in the district. After that, the Tigers will have to battle it out with OBA,
Tonkawa, and Hinton for those remaining play-off spots. “I am excited we are so young, but this group has got to get experience. If we can play up to our potential, limit our mistakes we will be ok. The freshmen being able to pick up on the speed of the game is crucial in 2020,” said Fisher. The Tiger coaching staff will include David Walker, Matt Fisher, John Lovett, and Logan LaRue. Walker and LaRue will handle the junior high team as well. The Tigers open the 2020 season in Hennessey on Aug. 28 and play their home opener Sept. 4 against North Rock Creek. Homecoming is Sept. 11 against Apache. Senior Night will be Oct. 30th against Hinton.

The Guthrie Bluejays go into the 2020 season looking to return to the play-offs and improving on the 4-6 record in 2019. Guthrie Head Coach Kelly Beeby was expecting 50 kids to report this year. The ‘Jays will be battle tested and will be on the road three of the four Fridays in October. It starts with a trip to Carl Albert (Oct. 2) and then to Woodward (Oct.9). The Bluejays land at home on fall break Thursday (Oct. 15) to play Guyman before going back on the road at Lawton Mac (Oct. 23) and Bishop McGuiness (Oct.30). Guthrie will play what they call zero week against Shawnee on Aug.28 in Jelsma Stadium to open the season. Game two sees a trip to Oklahoma City to take on Class 6A Putnam City West. If we make it to game three without any COVID-19 issues it will be homecoming in Guthrie
Guthrie Bluejays Sept.11 against longtime foe, Duncan back on the schedule for the first time in a couple of years. The ‘Jays get a weekend off Sept.18 before opening district play. Guthrie welcomes what has become a good rivalry in the last several years, Piedmont to Jelsma on Sept. 25. Piedmont will bring their well known ball control run game back this year although
last year they were able to pass frequently on the ‘Jays. Beeby is hoping his skill guys on defense can prevent those big plays in 2020. Carl Albert will be the consensus #1 team in Class 5A with several top Division I prospects and a senior class that has gone 41-1 in their first three years. The Bluejays will have their hands full in Midwest City that night.
It will be especially important for Guthrie’s play-off hopes and wanting to host a play-off game in 2020 that they are at least 1-1 in the district after the first two games. The trip to Woodward (Oct 9) will be a key game as the ‘Jays look to reverse the 28-14 loss in 2019 that allowed Woodward to make the play-offs in place of Guthrie. A short turn around for the Guthrie

GUTHRIE BLUEJAYS team waits for a Thursday game against Guyman for fall break on October 15. The Bluejays could be 3-1 in the district as they go on the road to play an improved Lawton Eisenhower team (Oct. 23) and then travel down to Oklahoma City on Oct.30 to play a veteran Bishop McGuiness team that finished as runnerup to Carl Albert in 2019. Guthrie will look to reverse last year’s 33-7 loss at McGuiness in this game and wrap-up a play-off position. The revamped district saw the Northwest Classen Knights replaced by the Western Heights Jets and the team will be in Jelsma on Nov.6. Western Heights has been in District 5-A 2 the last six years. It will be Senior Night for the Guthrie squad. Guthrie has a solid core of skill players returning in 2020 starting with Josh Rains at quarterback. The ‘Jays always want to establish the run in their offense and will rely on Kintoris Barber and Isaiah Hammons to handle that task in 2020. Sophomore Jaylen Chelf will also give the Bluejays a different look at quarterback
throughout the season. The pass catching duties will fall on Kaden Ballard -Stevenson, Jaylen Allison, Willy Clymer, and Tyrin Eaton. The big guys up front are all experienced and being counted on by Beeby to lead the way on the offense. It starts with Blake Schwartz at the center position. Schwartz will be flanked by Jarret Dean and Carson Wilder at the guards and Rains blind side will be protected by tackles Davon Moore and Macen Campbell. Rains will be the punter in 2020, with Ian Miranda handling all of the place king duties. Zac Thompson will be the long snapper. “Our defense will be our strength, even though we are young up front, our skill players are very athletic kids,” said Beeby. Guthrie will play a 5-2-4 defense again this year. The depth in the secondary is good this year and Beeby is looking for Chelf, Stevenson-Ballard, Diondre Jones and Cole Whitfield to be the biggest contributors this year. The defense is young but Beeby is looking for sophomores Cole Madison,
Silas Smith, Landon Hirzel, and Jackson Walters to impact the defense. Juniors Chris Shaputis, Chase Doles, and Spade Pool will be key players on the edge and in the linebacker spots. Thompson will be the key at nose guard in the 5-2 alignment and fellow senior Nathan Wiggins will be one of the defensive tackles. “We have a good group of kids, that have been working hard all summer. We need to stay healthy. We are a year older, play in the toughest district in the state and are playing a tough schedule. There is no reason why we cannot host a play-off game if we play well. Woodward and Lawton Ike are vastly improved this season. We can be as good as anyone in the state. Defensively we need to get off the ball and be able to tackle in space. Offensively we must be able to execute the passing game when we want to and not when we have to. Our special teams are going to have to do a better job with our field position game especially with our kick-off coverage. ,” said Beeby. The non-district games with Shawnee
and Duncan will both be extremely competitive as Shawnee has a new coach this season and Duncan is back on the schedule after a short absence. Beeby is counting on Jason Rice for the offensive coordinator in his second season in that position. Tyler Young is the assistant head coach, defensive ends coach and special team’s coordinator, Chad Sanders is back coaching the offensive line. Eric Woodard is back coaching the defensive line and Justin Gordon has the secondary. Terry Bennett Jr. has the wide receivers in 2020. Young and Bennett will handle the freshmen team with about 25 players expected to report this year. The junior high squads will be led by Head Coach Chase Plagens. The offensive and defensive coordinators will be Hayden Seifert and Braden Stone. Sam Morgan, Chris Rainey and Jason Alexander round out the staff. See you at The Rock Friday night.
