A NEW EXHIBITION OF SOUTH AFRICAN TAPESTRY ART OPENS AT LA MOTTE
In a world where disembodied virtual experiences have become the order of the day, Threads of Synergy – a new exhibition of South African tapestry art in the La Motte Museum pays homage to the artisans’ presence in the making. This exhibition of largescale tapestries calls for a tactile encounter, regaining sensitivity towards surfaces and reawakening our sense of touch. As an authentic South African art experience, Threads of Synergy presents a selection of tapestries woven by the Stephens Tapestry Studio and includes South African artists Robert Hodgins, William Kentridge, Sam Nhlengethwa, Cecily Sash and Cecil Skotnes. By extending traditional boundaries between art and craft, tapestry reveals the very essence of creative collaboration between artists, designers and weavers. Threads of Synergy in the La Motte Museum adds another sensory experience to La Motte’s acclaimed art offering that includes the estate’s famed Pierneef exhibition, a wealth of sculptures, classical music concerts, the culinary arts and of course, the art of winemaking. Steenberg Celebrates 50 Years of Cap Classique Steenberg salutes 50 years of Cap Classique with a pair of Steenberg’s finest.
Widely recognised as one of South Africa’s finest Rosé bubblies, Steenberg 1682 Pinot Noir Cap Classique strikes an elegant pose with its blushing hue and beguiling scents of raspberry jelly, wild strawberry sorbet, red apple skin and toasted brioche. Its ultra-fine mousse lifts the raspberry-like aromas and the creamy texture, in perfect balance with bright acidity, lingers long after the last sip. Steenberg 1682 Chardonnay Cap Classique is a richly layered Blanc de Blancs that matures for up to 18 months on the lees to reach its full potential. The result is an alluring Cap Classique with Granny Smith apple, candied lemon rind and white peach wafting from your flute. The palate is lively with zesty acidity layered with lemon cordial, honeyed nectarines, toasted croissant and pistachio. Perfected by time in the tradition of French Champagne, it takes a minimum of twelve months for the base wine to be transformed into a vibrant Cap Classique. The magic happens during a second fermentation in the bottle where the lively bubbles are created and captured to form a fine mousse, allowing the bubbly to develop its signature yeasty character. In time for Cap Classique Day, on 1 September, Steenberg joins fellow producers to celebrate the 50th anniversary of South African bottle fermented sparkling wine. Visit the Steenberg Tasting Room and taste the full range of four delicious bubblies at R150 per person. Steenberg 1682 Chardonnay Cap Classique and Steenberg 1682 Pinot Noir Cap Classique are available at a cellar door price of R190. For online purchases visit www.steenbergfarm.com/buy-wine-online/

The Best of the Bush at Ulusaba The thing about Ulusaba, is that there is no ONE thing. The place of “Little Fear” where the ancient Shangaan warriors had the perfect lookout point, is EVERYTHING for the soul!
ULUSABA IS OFFERING A VARIETY OF PACKAGES: The “Local is lekker” package (valid until 21 Dec 2021) offers local rates from ZAR 6,000 per person, per night staying in an Elephant or River Room, based on a minimum three-night stay.

But Ulusaba is so much more … in this vast expanse of the Sabie Sands plains, prepare to lose yourself and submit to the call of the African Bush. Your senses will not just be ignited, they will combust, as you take in every scent, sound and sighting.
Ulusaba Rock Lodge is built high on the summit of a small hill with expansive views over a waterhole while Safari Lodge, overlooks a dry riverbed with a nearby waterhole and not uncommon for elephants to come right to the stoep! The romantic Treehouse Suite overlooks the nearby Xikwenga Dam while other rooms have their own private plunge pools. Both lodges provide a luxurious safari experience in complete privacy.
“Winelands & Wildlife” combines a safari stay at either Ulusaba, South Africa (rates from R72,000 per room based on a three-night stay) or Mahali Mzuri, Kenya (located in the world famous Maasai Mara ecosystem and right in the path of the Great Migration with rates from USD $5,670 per room based on a three night stay), with Mont Rochelle in the Winelands (rates starting from R10,000 per room). The sightings themselves separate the wheat from the safari chaff … In just three days the bush treated us to a pride of lions with very young cubs feasting on a buffalo for days, while hyenas circled salivating nearby; leopard hoisting its kill under the discreet canopy of a Jackal-Berry tree; a pack of wild dogs lazing under the winter sun, too full to move from the days hunting adventures; cheetah posing on a termite mound; elephants, rhino, hippo and an abundance of bird life. Forget about the BIG 5, The Ulusaba rangers present the “SUPER SEVEN”! Ulusaba Private Game Reserve is a member of Virgin Limited Edition’s award-winning collection of retreats.
