MARION ALLARD Community Development Manager
There’s no place like home! This statement is particularly true at a time like now, when isolation and social distancing can limit the contact we have with other people and the great outdoors. Brookhaven provides an opportunity to stretch the limits of the home into the surrounding green spaces to enable you to keep these connections strong. I’ve seen residents embrace this via the walking and mountain biking trails, grabbing a take-away coffee at Brookhaven Bean and spending time in the community playgrounds.

Ben Forbes Ben Forbes in action
BROOKHAVEN Tell us a little bit about you and your passion for riding mountain bikes?
What’s your favourite mountain bike, and why?
My name is Ben Forbes, I’m 26 years old. I have been heavily surrounded by mountain bikes my whole life and was off the training wheels at the age of 2.
My Trek Slash is worth over $10,000 but I can’t go past my cheaper rental bikes - my Trek Roscoe 7 is a nice, simple suspension mountain bike.
I participated in my first race when I was 6, which took me all over the world - 29 countries to be exact! I’ve represented Australia in X-Country and Enduro mountain bike racing, whilst working as a bike mechanic and running a business that offers mountain bike coaching, bike hire and tours.
What are simple tricks to learn?
You’ve ridden through Brookhaven trails, how would you describe your riding experience? The tracks are a nice mix of flow with exciting features. Having access to these tracks so close to home for a quick ride before school or work is magic.
Community HERB GARDEN
• Simple balance: riding as slow as you can is the foundation of riding fast • Riding with no hands: this is a great skill, no more to say • Mastering cornering: this will help your ride flow smoother
What are your top three tips when riding a pump track the first time? 1 - Stand up 2 - Keep elbows and knees loose 3 - Relax and feel the pump!

Try out this traditional Italian Napolitana sauce recipe - perfect with pasta, lasagna, pizza or chicken parmigiana. We have a selection of fifteen different herbs, planted and cared for by our café owner / herb lover, Ennio. Bring the kids down to encourage participation in the kitchen, we just ask that you use scissors when harvesting and only take what you need. Happy foraging!

Right at home As the Brookhaven community grows, so do the number of savvy residents starting new business ventures from their very own home. Nicole and Callum Corbett took the opportunity to explore starting their home business off the back of making their own candles for personal use. They quickly found a knack for the craft and wanted to share their passion with others, starting their business ‘The Corbett Collective’ just this year.
TRADITIONAL ITALIAN NAPOLITANA SAUCE
“I’m a shift worker and Callum was looking for a new challenge, we also have a daughter about to turn one. It was a no-brainer for us to turn this new found
Callum and Nicole Corbett passion into a business. It’s an exciting time for our family, one that would provide us more flexibility and balance.” The Corbett Collective range of hand poured candles, melts and diffusers are stunning. Not only do they smell incredible, but the aromatherapy inspired fragrances have the ability to really change the mood within a home. Discover some of the products and services you can access right at your front-step at Brookhaven.

NEIGHBOURHOOD NEWS
DEVELOPMENT UPDATE
No stopping us Coronavirus has impacted all of our lives, but thankfully has not slowed down development at Brookhaven.
We’ve made fantastic progress at Brookhaven with Hillside 3 and 4 completed in June and Middle Ridge 4 and 5 completed recently. We are looking forward to seeing the first homes come out of the ground in these precincts and welcoming our new residents to Brookhaven. In happy news for the community, the intersection of Prangley Road and Brookhaven Boulevard opened in August, providing another route in and out of Brookhaven. We hope many of you are enjoying the added convenience of this connection.
It’s important that we continue to deliver beautiful recreation areas that enhance the lives of Brookhaven residents. That’s why we’ve been working on a small extension to Discovery Park, including further integration with the waterway management corridor. The extension will include additional multi-use trails, fitness equipment and seating for the community to enjoy. We anticipate that these works will be completed mid-2021.
BREAKING NEWS The Premier has announced that forward planning for a new primary school in Bahrs Scrub has begun, which is a great outcome for Brookhaven residents.
