Walker family excited about their new place to call home

Walker family looking forward to their ‘forever’ home Taneal and Joshua Walker have chosen Mambourin as the place to build their ‘forever’ home. The couple have two daughters, Murphy aged four and Bailey aged eight months, and have been thinking about their need to upsize as their family has grown.

“We were looking for something in this area, as this is where all our family live and it was important to still be close to them. We were living in a two-bedroom house and then moved into a three-bedroom home more recently, which we are renting in Altona Meadows, to be closer to my mum,” Taneal says. “But we were really wanting that forever house that solves all our needs and there was so much about Mambourin that appealed to us. “We both work in the CBD so having easy access to Melbourne is important, which we will have by train. But we were also looking for somewhere that would give us access to parks, schools and community.

“The idea of the five-minute community at Mambourin was really appealing. I love the idea of convenience, of being able to hop off the train after work, grab what I need at the shop on the way home and be home within minutes.” Taneal says that on their journey to finding the right location, the couple first chose the house they wanted, then looked for the right land lot to fit the home. The couple inspected between 40 to 50 display homes, settling on a single-story Henley Homes design.

“It’s a four-bedroom home and we will be able to use one room as a study. The house has two main living areas, two bathrooms and a double garage. For me it was really important to have the bedrooms off a hallway rather than off a living area. We have a big family, so being able to entertain and allowing the kids to be able to sleep undisturbed was really important for me. “The house has an alfresco area and stackable doors so we can really open up the living space. It just ticked every box.”

The neighbours Having young children, access to open space was also a big consideration for the Walker family. The family’s new land block, which they recently settled, is just three blocks from Mambourin’s picturesque wetlands area and district park space.

“I am looking forward to being able to take my daughters to the park so close to home. It will be a real neighbourhood space where they will be able to meet other kids in the area who might become friends,” Taneal says. “It will be great to finally get to meet other people in the area that my kids will grow up with. I am hoping that it will be the kind of community in which we can have that chat over the fence. I really can’t wait to meet my new neighbours. It’s really exciting to be part of something new and watch it grow.” Taneal says the exclusive residents’ club, Club Mambourin, was also a big drawcard for the couple.

“Access to a gym and a pool is really important to us, for our own health and wellbeing as well as for the kids. I also really like that we will have access to a function room, where we could book in a kids’ party, and it won’t be as busy a space as a public area. I really like that the space will be for residents only, a space for our community to connect, which you really can’t get anywhere else. “I used to be a swimming instructor and I know how important water safety is, so access to the pool is fantastic for my girls.” The Walker family will be among the community’s first residents to call Mambourin home, hoping to start building within months. If all goes well, they could even be in their new home by Christmas.

“I am really looking forward to cutting out all that in-between time and being able to spend more time with the kids. This will be a fresh start.”

Sarah Bloom, General Manager Residential Victoria for Frasers Property Australia says the club will take approximately 12 months to complete.

“It’s an exciting time for the project team and our new residents, seeing this important part of the Mambourin ‘five-minute’ community become a reality. The club will become a thriving hub and an essential place for residents to connect. “We hope that residents will regard Club Mambourin as an extension of their own homes and make full use of all the state-of-the-art facilities.” Construction on the site commenced earlier in June and the team have been able to maintain works throughout the Stage 4 restrictions with the Geothermal drilling nearing completion. The in-ground plumbing and electrical services are complete, the strip footings have been poured and the excavation works on the pool has commenced. The main building pad concrete pour is targeted to start in early September with the structure construction soon to follow. The club is targeting completion for mid-2021.

Artist impression. District Park

The District Park is coming to life! An adventure playground where children can splash about, zoom across flying foxes, whizz down spiral slides or shoot a few hoops is underway at Mambourin. The district park under construction at Mambourin is set to become a region-wide attraction, taking playground design and equipment to the next level. An area for skating, rollerblading and scootering, a full-size multi-use court for basketball and netball, two 6m tall play towers and a water play area are among the park’s highlights. Designed by Tract, the park has been inspired by the local community and is designed to be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities.

Sarah Bloom, General Manager Residential Victoria for Frasers Property Australia, says she expects the park will become a focal point for the wider community, not just residents of Mambourin.

“We can’t wait to see this park to come to life, it’s going to be unlike anything people have seen before in the area,” she says. “It’s exactly what is needed in an expanding area. It has been meticulously designed to compel the whole family to get outdoors and provides an organic space for people in the area to gather and build a sense of community. And, keeping with Mambourin’s philosophy, it will only be a five-minute walk, cycle or bus ride from resident’s homes. “The You Yangs form a stunning natural backdrop to Mambourin and this park has been designed to make the most of it with optimum viewing spots, such as a birds’ nest lookout for kids in one of the play towers.”

Community updates The park is connected to hike and bike trails for easy access and a seamless integration with the new Mambourin community and surrounds. Other facilities include a sheltered modern barbecue and picnic area (including restrooms), ample grassed open spaces, an adventure maze with multiple swings and other activities and a rebound and climbing wall – all within an extensive landscaped area with adjoining wetlands. Ryan Davis, Associate Landscape Architect at Tract says community feedback about what the new residents wanted from their new park helped inform the design.

“Our inspiration for the park is the future community of Mambourin and how they wanted to use this extensive open space, as well as a vision for how future generations will use the space,” Mr Davis says. “A real highlight for families will be the different uses for the park and the number of activities they can enjoy together. “The park has been designed for all ages and abilities and also includes fitness stations throughout the wetlands area and flexible space for unprogrammed use, so a trip to the park from school or the town centre should be something to excite the whole family.”

Mr Davis says huge, custom-design play structures will be a unique feature of the park and unlike anywhere else. He says the structures are designed to inspire the imagination – something designers drew heavily on in the design process.

“This has been a big opportunity to let our own imaginations run wild. The enormous flying fox has been particularly fun to work into the design,” he says. The Mambourin district park is underway and anticipated to be complete and open to the public in late 2020, coinciding with the community’s first stages of residents moving into their new homes. Stay tuned to the regular construction updates and watch as the park takes shape.
