Faith and Works
Joshua 2:15-24

(Romans 10:17) So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God ...
(Hebrews 11:29-31) By faith the people crossed the Red Sea as on dry land, but the Egyptians, when they attempted to do the same, were drowned. 30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they had been encircled for seven days. 31 By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient, because she had given a friendly welcome to the spies.
1. Everyone can call on the name of the Lord.
(Joshua 2:12-13) Please swear to me by the Lord that ... you will deliver our lives from death.
(Romans 10:13) Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
(Genesis 22:18) In your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed.
(Romans 4:13-16) It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith. 14 For if those who depend on the law are heirs, faith means nothing and the promise is worthless, 15 because the law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression. 16 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.
2. Faith and works go together.
(Hebrews 11:31) By faith, Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient, because she had given a friendly welcome to the spies.
(James 2:25) Was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way?
3. There is only one true Lord.
(Joshua 2:11) The Lord your God, he is God in the heavens above and the earth beneath.
(Jeremiah 10:5,10) ... have to be carried, for they cannot walk ...The Lord is the true God.
(1Thessalonians 1:9) For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God…
