Colossians: Your New Life Goal Colossians 1:1-2 February 18, 2024 Paul was a man who lived his life goal. (Acts 20:24) But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus… 1. People who know Jesus spread His Gospel. (Colossians 1:1) Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother… less of a program more of a lifestyle 2. People who know Jesus are set apart as His family members. (Colossians 1:2a) To the saints and faithful brothers in Christ at Colossae . . . 3. When we know Jesus it leads to grace and peace. (Colossians 1:2b) . . . Grace to you and peace from God our Father.
How do I live the mission? 1. The goal of my life is the will of God. My Relationships Change (Matthew 12:50) For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother. My Mentality Changes (James 4:15) Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” My Power Source Changes (Hebrews 13:21) May he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. 2. I will never accomplish my goal alone. (Romans 12:4-6) For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them…
3. To accomplish my goal, I must choose to be faithful. Focus on Jesus. (John 7:17) If anyone’s will is to do God’s will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority. Crucify my flesh. (Galatians 5:24) And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Daily obedience not seasonal sacrifice. (1 Samuel 15:22) And Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. 4. I know I am accomplishing my goal when I experience grace and peace. There is no earthly substitute for God’s grace and peace!
