(Mark 11:15-17) And they came to Jerusalem. And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold and those who bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. 16 And he would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple. 17 And he was teaching them and saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers.” Jesus loves walking around his house. The question is, does Jesus love what he sees? I will never have an authentic prayer life until: 1. I stop trying to make prayer my consumption mechanism. 2. I stop looking for instant gratification. 3. I stop looking for short cuts. 4. I stop only accepting people who are like me.
My Prayer Life Will Explode If I: 1. Engage in prayer as my way of encountering and experiencing God. (Hebrews 13:5) For God has said, I will never fail you. I will never abandon you. (Malachi 3:6) I am the Lord, and I do not change. (Isaiah 49:14-15) Yet Jerusalem says, The Lord has deserted us; the Lord has forgotten us. 15 Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you! 2. Engage in prayer as an act of cooperation and continuation. (John 14:12) I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. 3. Engage in prayer as an act of devotion and dedication. (Acts 2:42) All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. 4. Engage in prayer with and for others. (Acts 4:31) After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.
