Pastor William signs “Love” as he holds his newly-adopted baby boy. The newborn was rescued from a latrine in Leveque, Haiti, and the pastor and his wife decided to keep the baby and raise him as their own.
Today I witnessed a beautiful miracle. I saw God’s love poured out in a lovingly selfless act. Today I saw the hands and feet of Jesus at work. Today in Leveque something amazing happened. It started with something terribly sad. A newborn baby was dropped into a latrine and left to die. Something I cannot fathom and which shatters my heart. I cannot even begin to understand what went through this mother’s mind as she let go of her baby and watched him fall into the dark pit. Thankfully God has a wonderful plan for this little life and his sweet cry was loud enough to be heard by a good samaritan passing by, who quickly called Pastor Sainteloi William, the deaf pastor from Leveque. A group of people worked together to smash the cement cover off the latrine carefully so the baby would not be injured. Then they somehow used some metal bars and a net or basket of some sort to lift the baby out of the pit. Miraculously he only had a few scrapes on him. The community came together to care for this little miracle. They quickly cleaned him up, found him some clothes and brought him to the MOH (Mission of Hope) clinic. Pastor William called Kenol, who in turn called me. I went to the guest house to look through donations just as a team was pulling in. They had some newborn boys clothes, formula and bottles in their bags; coincidence? I think not! We stopped to grab a few other things in the orphanage and headed down to the church. I knew we wouldn’t be able to take Continued page 4

continued from page 1 the child immediately as we would have to get a letter from the judge in Cabaret and approval from our Executive Director before that would be possible. However, that all changed when we reached the church. We got out of the car and saw a tiny baby boy wrapped up in a white towel. Through a sign language interpreter Pastor William shared the events of this afternoon. I asked where the baby would be staying that night and immediately smiles broke out on everyone’s face as they quickly shared that Pastor William and his wife were going to keep the baby. My heart instantly flooded with joy. This little boy is already deeply loved by so many people. I am so blessed to have been a witness to this beautiful miracle. Baby William will be raised in a loving Christian home, and we will get to watch him grow from here. It’s a beautiful thing to see the church come together, love so freely and unite to take care of the orphans. I know that God was smiling as He watched this miracle come together and the family he stitched together come to be. Please pray for Baby William and his new family as well as his birth mother as I can not even imagine what she is going through. Peace, love and blessings, Rachel

Reboot Wilderness Adventures is a new ministry at Frazer that seeks to refocus younger men on the one thing that truly matters Jesus Christ - through overnight backpacking trips and other adventures in the Alabama wilderness. Reboot founder Mike Presley said, “As men, our focus on God as our provider can be lost very easily in our day-to-day lives.” With work stress, financial worries, cell phones, text messages, Facebook, social obligations, television and other things, modern life can have so many distractions that we focus on everything but the one thing that truly matters: our savior Jesus Christ. When we lose this focus, we easily forget that God is our provider. We try to take on that role ourselves, and before long, we are worn out and burned out. Sometimes we need to get away from it all and reboot our focus on Christ as our everything. “One of the easiest ways to do that is by seeking His presence and studying His word while enjoying His beautiful creation,” he said.
Reboot has planned two-day, one-night trips in the spring and fall that combine the experience of hiking and camping along the trail with Bible study. In the peacefulness of nature with the distractions of technology removed, God’s presence and power are often easily seen all around. In this environment, it is easier to focus on God and seek His will and direction for your life. No experience required and the basic gear provided. We have all the basic gear you will need. No experience is required but it is best that you are in moderate physical shape. The backpacking trips are a little more physically intensive than the camping trips. Upcoming Reboot Trips
Overnight Backpacking in the Cheaha Wilderness,April 26-27 This is an overnight backpacking/Bible study adventure in the Cheaha Wilderness about two hours northeast of Montgomery. We will hike the 8-mile Cave Creek loop and camp at scenic McDill Point. We leave Montgomery the morning of the first day and return in late afternoon on the second day. Space for each trip is lim-
ited to eight men ages 21-55.
Traditional camping in south Montgomery County,May 4-5 This is an overnight camping/ Bible study adventure at a 200+ acre forested property in south Montgomery County. We will caravan to the land on the morning of the first day and finish our experience on the afternoon of the second day. We will base-camp near the entrance to the land and hike to scenic points along the property. Space is limited to 15 men ages 21-55. For more information about Reboot Wilderness Adventures, and to sign up for a trip, go to frazerumc.org/reboot. Packing and equipment lists are also provided at the link. The Silly Purchase After my widowed Mother remarried when I was teenager, I was privileged to spend a few summers on a farm in Upstate New York. Being “a city girl” I had never been on a farm before, where town and shopping was 10 miles away. I had never been given an allowance before either, but the new granddad saw that there was a little spending money when we went to town. (I was required to do “chores.”) Way back then, before the days of Wal-Mart and Target, there were Five and Ten Cent stores. Yes, you could buy things for five and 10 cents! One Saturday, I saw a ring I just had to have. It sparkled in the artificial light and I could hardly wait until I had saved to buy that ring. One special day it was mine! I wore it everywhere and was so proud of it, I loved the glitter on my finger. One day I noticed my finger had turned a little ‘green’ in the area the ring touched. I was very careful to keep that hand washed so no one would notice. One Saturday we took a trip to Watkins Glen, I think it was a state park. It was a beautiful place to swim and picnic. We had a wonderful time with other teens and I was so excited to be there with new

friends. The day was perfect until I lost my treasured ring in the water! While others swam and played I searched for my treasure. Once I lost my ring, the day was ruined! Now, I laugh when I think of that fake ring which turned my finger green. What a silly waste of time and money, searching for what the Bible calls dross. At this season of Easter, we are reminded that Jesus Christ laid down His life so we could be cleansed from sin or dross. Just as I didn’t want my finger to turn green, and tried to hide it; Sin turns us into something or someone we don’t want to be. I made a silly purchase, but Jesus didn’t when He purchased my sin! “For the Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke 19:10b) Hallelujah! What a Savior! Ginger Koerner volunteers in the Frazer kitcheb and serves as a substitute Sunday School teacher. She has sung in the choir, directed children’s choirs and drama. Her hobbies are quilting and reading.
Dave Ramsey Dear Dave, My parents are close to retirement and very heavily leveraged. Do you have any advice on how I can help motivate them to succeed financially? —Jack Dear Jack, I appreciate your concern for your mom and dad, but I’m not sure you can motivate anyone to do something. Sometimes people don’t have motivation because they’ve lost hope. In turn, it’s that sense of hopelessness that keeps them from moving forward. I think in these situations the best you can do is to show them hope. And one of the best ways to do that is to share your own story. You can also examine the numbers with them to show that the light at the end of the tunnel isn’t always an oncoming train. I do this a lot with callers on my radio show. After we look at the pieces of the puzzle together, I might show them how they can pay off $50,000 of debt in a year’s time. Most of these people aren’t bankrupt; they’re just plain scared. So there’s a lot of power in that little word “hope.” Sit down with your parents and let them know how much you love them and want them to enjoy their retirement. See if you can find out how much income

they have versus the amount of debt they’ve piled up, then begin to formulate a step-by-step plan. Show them how they can begin to get traction and free up their money by living on a budget and getting out of debt. You can even offer to be their counselor or accountability partner. You want them to be safe and secure in their retirement, and they deserve some dignity after working hard all their lives. So, in my mind, hope is the best thing you can offer. Motivation is a different story. That has to come from within. You can’t really motivate the unmotivated. —Dave
