Welcome to the Parks and Recreation Rec Now, we are sure you will find valuable information in this newsletter. We strive to provide information that you are looking for as well as information that will enlighten, educate, and showcase new programs. Please take the time to browse this newsletter for updates on all recreation activities and programs we offer. Holiday Weekend Carriage ride registration is underway for Cinderella Carriages and Wagons, pulled by Belgium Draft Mules or a team of Percheron horses. Enjoy a fun and festive ride through historic downtown Frederick. Make sure to browse through our fall brochure to see a listing of all of the fall and winter activities and programs; you can register online for most programs from the comfort of your home at www.activity.reg. We encourage you to take advantage of this convenience. HOLIDAY CARRIAGE RIDES Once again, come and enjoy a carriage ride through the Frederick Town Historic District during the holiday season. The carriage will leave every 30 minutes for a memorable holiday ride with family and friends. The wagons will be led by a team of Belgium Draft Mules and/or a team of Percheron horses, and will hold 12 people. DATES AND TIMES: Saturday, December 1 , 4:00 - 8:00 pm (one wagon with the option of a 2nd once full) Saturday, December 8, 4:00 - 8:00 pm (2 wagons) Sunday, December 9, 4:00 - 8:00 pm (2 wagons) Friday, December 14, 5:00 - 9:00 pm Saturday, December 15, 4:00 - 8:00 pm Sunday, December 16, 4:00 - 8:00 pm (2 wagons) Friday, December 21, 5:00 - 9:00 pm Saturday, December 22, 4:00 - 8:00 pm Sunday, December 23, 4:00 - 8:00 pm Friday, December 28 , 5:00 - 9:00 pm Saturday, December 29 4:00 - 8:00 pm (2 wagons) Sunday, December 30, 4:00 – 8:00 pm (one wagon with the option of a 2nd once full) LOCATION: Carriage will leave every 30 minutes from Market Street in front of Brewer’s Alley Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled ride time to check in. We need to maintain our schedule and will not be able to wait for late arrivals so plan accordingly. FEE: $10 per person (children 2 and under are free on their parent’s lap). *Pre-registration is recommended. Tickets will be sold during the above times for available slots only. Maximum number of riders for each ride will be 12.
WINTER SPORTS Little Hoops Basketball League – JV Grades: K through 2
Saturday morning games, beginning 1/8 Location: Whittier Rec Center & Lincoln Rec Center Fee: $80 Jan. to March. Fee includes jersey and medal.
Volunteer coaches and helpers are needed.
Little Hoops Basketball League – Varsity Grades: 3 through 5 Date/Times: Wednesday evening practice, Saturday morning games, beginning 1/9 Location: Thomas Johnson Rec Center / Lincoln Rec center Fee: $80 Individual registration only. Youth will be placed on teams by Rec. Dept. staff. Coach will contact players in early January. Season runs Jan. to March. Fee includes jersey and medal.

Winter Men’s & Women’s Sixes Volleyball League Age: 16 & up Dates: Sundays, league starts, 1/6 Time: 12:30 pm - start time based on division Location: Wm. Talley Rec. Center, Whittier Elementary School and/or TJ Middle School Fee: Per team, city resident $95 / mixed $140 / non-city resident $175 (Must have 30% city residents on roster to qualify for mixed rate, address verification will be required.) League consists of 8 weeks of round robin play followed by divisional play-offs. Teams placed in divisions based on ability/skill levels. Skill levels range from highly competitive, skilled play to beginner, recreational skill levels.

Preschool Spanish II This parent-child course continues to revolve around Spanish immersion and thematic lessons. Children reinforce basic concepts (weather, food, body parts, opposites, etc.) through second language, literature-based lessons. Continue from Preschool Spanish I or begin fresh with this session—it’s bound to appeal to all levels and interests! Active Adults Spanish II Continue to develop basic oral and written skills in Spanish through structured yet engaging classroom activities. Continue from Active Adults Spanish I or start new— it simply doesn’t matter as all students are kept moving along the Spanish learning continuum. Homeschool Spanish II Continue from Homeschool Spanish I or begin fresh with this session—all enrollees are welcome and will find it worthwhile.
