Wheels for the World A local high school senior, Ellie Cole, reached out as a representative for Joni and Friends’ Wheels for the World, a Christian wheelchair collection organization, asking for our help! Wheels for the World collects, restores and distributes wheelchairs and other assistive devices (walkers, canes and crutches) to provide help for people with disabilities in countries around the world while sharing the Gospel. Their desire is for local churches to unite and collect wheelchairs for this honorable purpose. They are seeking wheelchairs, foldable metal walkers, metal canes, and metal crutches (in any condition). They can provide donors with a receipt if requested. If you have any of these items you can donate, please bring them to the church office. To learn more about Wheels for the World, visit http://joniandfriends.org/wheelsfortheworld/
What’s Ahead COMMUNITY MISSION DAY May 20th throughout the Fredericksburg Community Contact: Jim Ryan (990-2916 or jnjaryan@yahoo.com) Our Spring Community Mission Day is scheduled for May 20th. We need volunteers to do home repairs, yard work, clear junk from a yard, or work inside someone's home. This year we will be working with Habitat for Humanity to help clear a lot for the next build. There are dead trees plus junk that need to be placed into a dumpster. In addition, we have asked our Meals-on-Wheels recipients if they need any odd jobs done, and we usually receive several requests. Also, if you know of anyone within our church who could use some help with the same kind of work, please let Jim Ryan know. To volunteer or add a job to our list please contact Jim at 990-2916 or jnjaryan@yahoo.com.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL AHEAD July 10th-14th from 9 a.m.—12 noon Contact: Lisa Davis (lisa@fredumc.org, 830-997-7679) It’s that time of year again! Vacation Bible School is coming up in July, and we need volunteers! We’ll need group leaders, assistant leaders, activity leaders, and helpers in the kitchen and on the cleanup crew, VBS is for children ages four—5th grade, and registration is open now for participants and volunteers at www.vbspro.events/p/ fredumc. Our theme this year is “Maker Fun Factory,” and it’s all about being created by God for a purpose. This is one of the most important outreach ministries of our church, and a great way to share the love of God with kiddos in our community! Be on the lookout for a Top Ten Reasons to Volunteer at VBS feature in the next edition of The Thread! If you are interested in learning more, get in touch with Lisa.
Noteworthy News.. -The May/June edition of The Thread will be here soon! In the meantime you can check out the March/April edition right here on Issuu. -There are laundry baskets for each of our graduating seniors in the Fellowship Hall. We will present them each with their baskets at our 9 a.m. worship service on Sunday, May 28th. That means we need to get them filled with lots of goodies before then! We are welcoming donations of snacks, school supplies, socks, laundry supplies, socks, etc. to help get them ready to head off to college. Your gifts are appreciated! -Our Spring/Summer Programming Guide is available now! Check it out on Issuu, or pick up a hard copy in the foyer or church office. -Don’t forget to pick up a copy of “A Year of Fruitfulness” if you haven’t already! This is a summary of all the things our ministries accomplished in 2016. Copies are available on the big shelf in the foyer or in the church office. -Thank you to all those who donated to our recent Lenten Clothing Drive. We received word during a recent missions meeting that emergency responders called the Adventists (the organization that organizes and stores donated items) after tornadoes damaged areas in Canton, a city east of Dallas. The clothing we donated will get packed up and shipped off to families in need in that area!

First Quarter Financial Report Your finance committee wanted to give you an update on our financial situation as of the end of March. I am happy to report that we are in good financial condition. Our pledge and plate is holding steady; although we are about $15,000 behind where we should be. Our expenses are in line with what we budgeted. In fact, they are less than budgeted. The staff and committees do an excellent job of watching their expenses and getting the most from every dollar. Below is a recap of the finance report as of March 31st, 2017. If you have any questions, please contact me or call the church office.
Revenue: Expenses: Surplus:
Actual $214,426 $210,225 $4,201
Budget $229,125 $227,976 $1,148.59
Your faithfulness and financial support help the church fulfill its vision and mission both here in Fredericksburg and throughout the world. There are so many great things going on in our church. We support missionaries throughout the world and reach elementary students and youth right here in our neighborhood. We have been able to upgrade the children’s wing without additional debt. Our youth are working to make another mission trip to Belize. There’s not enough space to list all the great things going on in this church (but you can check out ‘A Year of Fruitfulness” to get more details about them). A strong financial foundation is important to the church as it goes about achieving its part in the transformation of the world. Thanks and God Bless, Gregg Hagelstein Finance Chair
Ongoing Ministries VISITATION DISCIPLES NEEDED Contact: Alice Hahn (998-7440, akghahn22@gmail.com) Thanks to the responsiveness of our members, the Congregational Care Visitation Group now numbers 22 disciples! We have just enough to minister to our existing list of homebound members. We are asking your help to allow us to expand our homebound ministry. Disciples in this ministry visit homebound members once or twice a month, send cards and/or make phone calls to recognize birthdays, anniversaries, and other special events, and find other creative ways of demonstrating their caring and support. Some of these disciples also deliver communion once a month to the homes of the members who request it. If you feel a calling to help in this ministry, please contact Alice G. Hahn!
