E-KIDS BRAINY ARITHMETIC PROJECT SYNOPSIS

1.1.0 CURRENT SCENARIO The current scenario of teaching mathematics in school level is focus in a progressive manner. However do not have the in-built flexibility for slow, medium and fast learners. The main reasons are : Lack of time, Difference on students’ understanding capacities, Lack of time for teachers to teach the mathematics fundamentals and Lack of individual student attention. For some people, some food causes allergy. Similarly, for some students, mathematics seems to be an allergy. To get relief from such allergic conditions and at the same time to create a condition wherein students begin to evince interest in doing problems in mathematics. E-Kids has developed E-Kids Mathematics with the help of Montessori Creed to make sure the students to understand the mathematics concepts thoroughly and practice more with their own pace.

1.2.0 THE APPROACH There is only one formula to improve students’ mathematics skill which is “ THE MORE YOU PRACTICE, THE MORE YOU EXCEL”. But students do not like to practice more problems in their work book or note. They do hate doing things again and again. In order to bring interest among the learners, E-Kids has developed E-Kids Mathematics focus fundamental concepts using computer graphics and animation. These lessons are called digital lessons. In built E-Test / Quiz program is part of the digital lessons. Montessori concepts have been incorporated along with ICT.

The purpose of E-Mathematics’ in built E-Test is to make sure students should solve a certain number of sums in a given specified timing. In this aspect students are asked to score 50 marks in 30 minutes time. In normal mode of solving problems using paper and pen, students may score at the Page | 6 ©All Rights Reserved. www.e-kids.in

E-KIDS BRAINY ARITHMETIC PROJECT SYNOPSIS

average of 15-20 sums in 30 mins. However in E-Kids Maths Test, they can double the accuracy and timing.

E-Kids’ digital transformation will positively impact learner enthusiasm, pedagogy, grades, general knowledge, value systems, ICT skills, communication, management and the school image globally.

Each digital lesson is structured into objectives, learner outcomes, contains built-in tests, digital manuals with simple navigation for sifting through text and animations.

The animations will help the students to understand the most complex mathematics concepts in a matter of minutes and in the process transfer the knowledge to most of the students in the class.

E-Kids will categorize students as Fast Learners, Medium Learner, and Slow Learners. E-Kids will do different strategy plan for each category and if necessary provide different curriculum in order to bring consistence among learners.

E-Kids put slow & medium learners in lower standards for a particular topic and asked them to complete the lower standard lesson and then ask them to do their regular standard lesson. However fast learners can do higher standard lessons and go beyond.

For eg. Take standard-5 students. For fraction topic, we can put slow learners in to standard 3 or 4 in order to understand the concept thoroughly and then asked them to proceed with standard 5 lesson of fraction. For fast learners, after Page | 7 ŠAll Rights Reserved. www.e-kids.in

E-KIDS BRAINY ARITHMETIC PROJECT SYNOPSIS

finishing the standard 5 of fraction, we can put them for standard 6 or 7 and 8. However if the students are really smart enough finishing all the lessons, then definitely E-Kids will provide more difficult problems.

1.3.0 THE INNOVATION Keep in mind the current scenario, E-Kids has developed specialized curriculum for Mathematics called E-KIDS MATHEMATICS. The details of the curriculum, implementation & impacts are in the Annexure (will be given to School Management on request.)

methodologies are incorporated into E-KIDS MATHEMATICS in order to student understands the fundamental concept of mathematics. E-Kids’ digital transformation will positively impact learner enthusiasm, pedagogy, grades, general knowledge, value systems, ICT skills, communication, management and the school image globally. Each digital lesson is structured into objectives, learner outcomes, contains builtin tests, digital manuals with simple navigation for sifting through text and animations. The animations will help the students to understand the most complex mathematics concepts in a matter of minutes and in the process transfer the knowledge to most of the students in the class. The interactive interface ensures that the student is not learning passively by listening to someone, or viewing ready-made solutions, but learning by answering questions of progressively increasing complexity levels. Students tend to find certain Mathematics concepts confusing and the understanding levels are not the same for every child. Repeated failure to solve sums leads the child to lose interest in the subject. At the core concept of E-KIDS MATHEMATICS is the practical. Students learn best when they control the pace of learning and doing. Every child has his / her own pace of learning & doing. There have been several successful experiments worldwide on this. E-KIDS is inspired by various such experiments. A key advantage of E-KIDS-MATHEMATICS is the fact that it successfully harnesses the power of new technologies to bolster learning. A Teacher / Parent / Students can easily decide what problem to serve up to a student next, based on her marks scored to the current problem and problems answered earlier. The student not only learns at her pace but is allowed to clear his / her doubts with the help of explanations where needed. The system is able to identify when a student needs help to understand a concept, and proceeds to give her explanations that will help her move ahead.

E-KIDS BRAINY ARITHMETIC PROJECT SYNOPSIS

2.2.0 KEY FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES 2.2.1 Every Child Learns At Her Own Pace – There Is No “Ideal” Learning Rate For A Given Age Group.

No two children have exactly the same mental make-up. Every child constructs knowledge in his or her own unique way. So why should their learning paths be the same? The most effective learning program is that which allows the child to determine her own path – so, if an 11 year old has a knack for algebra, he should be able to do even grade 10 algebra, while he goes slower in other topics.

2.2.2 Effective Learning Takes Place If The Material Presents A Challenge That Is Just Above The Cognitive Level Of The Student.

Challenges motivate students, but if the challenge is too advanced for the student, she will be discouraged. A challenge has to be just at the right level – a little over her current level, enough to make her curious to learn more, but not too daunting, for it to become a motivating factor. 2.2.3 Frequent Exposure To Appropriate Learning Material Enhances Learning.

This is a fact often authenticate by the grieve of teachers – that students forget ‘everything’ in the holidays. Long gaps can, in fact, often cause a fall in learning levels. A learning program should address this problem by allowing a child to revisit any topic she wants, at any time. 2.2.4 Learning Through Drill Alone – Without Understanding – Is Not Learning.

Page | 13 ©All Rights Reserved. www.e-kids.in

E-KIDS BRAINY ARITHMETIC PROJECT SYNOPSIS

The philosophy to improve mathematics is “The more you practice the more you perform better”. Even as we say that frequent exposure increases the chances of better learning, it is important to note that the quality of the learning is a critical factor. More exposure to just drill questions can improve short-time rote based learning. But for real improvement, that would affect how a student develops and performs later in life - it is important to expose him to the right kind of material, which understands or application oriented

2.2.5 Though Individual Variations Exist, There Are Universal Patterns In Learning – And These Patterns Can Help Children Learn Better.

Research has shown that there are clearly discernible patterns in student learning. These patterns relate to concepts that students find difficult, areas where students have misconceptions, and so on. Identifying these patterns and then factoring them into a learning program is critical for it to really help students learn better.

2.3.0 WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT E-KIDS-MATHEMATICS? Montessori concepts incorporated Learning through answering questions Focus on understanding Adaptive logic – questions always at the child’s level Addressing common errors & misconceptions In-depth explanations Visuals and animations for effective learning

2.3.1 Focus On Understanding

One of the unique features of the E-KID MATHEMATICS program is its focus on Page | 14 ©All Rights Reserved. www.e-kids.in

E-KIDS BRAINY ARITHMETIC PROJECT SYNOPSIS

understanding and analytical thinking, not just knowledge of facts, or drill in procedures. For instance most Mathematics learning programs available today use games to create learning. But the quality of learning being aimed at is suspect, since the focus is entirely on procedural fluency – with a lot of drill in operations rather than conceptual understanding or application. But today, what any student really needs to move ahead in life is real understanding, and analytical ability – and that is what the E-KIDS-MATHEMATICS program aims to foster. E-KIDS-MATHEMATICS offers a unique interactive experience of learning Mathematics in a fun way while making sure the child has thoroughly understood the concepts. 2.3.2 Adaptive Logic

E-KIDS-MATHS has a built-in adaptive logic that allows a student to move at her own pace. This complex logic determines where to take the student after each question – based on her answer to the current one, and also taking into account how she has answered previous questions on that concept. Typically, a student would select a topic like shapes, and start with fundamental questions based on this topic. This is to ascertain that the student has a strong grounding in the topic. A student with a deeper understanding of this topic automatically moves ahead quickly to more advanced levels, while those who need to spend more time on the basics will be served up more questions of the basic level. This is one of the features of E-KIDS MATHEMATICS make learning Mathematics more interesting without making it difficult.

2.3.3 Addressing Common Errors And Misconceptions

Many students have the misunderstanding of basic concepts that they carry forward from an early age. It is important to identify those and help the child overcome them. Most often, a child does not try to clear these misconceptions due to a lack of opportunity or fear of embarrassment. Research through detailed student assessments provides insights on exactly where students are likely to have difficulties, and why. E-KIDS MATHEMATICS questions are designed on the Page | 15 ©All Rights Reserved. www.e-kids.in

E-KIDS BRAINY ARITHMETIC PROJECT SYNOPSIS

basis of detailed classroom studies and research in student learning - to specifically target common student errors and misconceptions. Research through detailed student assessments provides insights on exactly where students are likely to have difficulties, and why. E-KIDS MATHEMATICS questions are designed on the basis of detailed classroom studies and research in student learning - to specifically target common student errors and misconceptions. E.g. the student might be struggling with mathematics formulae which would ultimately lead her to either rote learning them and trying to apply them wherever required. This often gives birth to several misconceptions. Students start using these formulae like some rule without really understanding. E-KIDS MATHEMATICS provides multiple examples and situations ensuring the rule is UNDERSTOOD not just MEMORISED.

2.3.4 In-Depth Explanations

E-KIDS MATHEMATICS provides visual or animated explanations are rather than just textual, to facilitate quick grasping. This system of providing visual explanations allows the student to revisit the concept, and quickly figure out how to tackle subsequent problems on the concept.

2.3.5 Visuals And Animations For Effective Learning

Over 90% of the problems in E-KIDS MATHEMATICS make use of visuals and animations, either in the question, or in the explanation provided for the correct answer. This engages students and increases their interest levels. At the same time, the animations in the E-KIDS MATHEMATICS program are mostly used as serious learning tools, and not as lighthearted cartoons or games – which today's kids get an overdose of on T.V anyway!

2.4.0 HOW WILL THIS HELP MY STUDENTS? 2.4.1. Clearing Basic Concepts And Building Strong Fundamentals

E-KIDS-MATHS has a built in adaptive logic that allows a student to move at her own pace, depending on the level of comfort in a particular concept. For instance, for a student currently in grade 8 who has not had a strong foundation in Algebra, the system will automatically serve up fundamental or lower level algebra questions that would help him clear his basics.

A special feature of the E-KIDS MATHEMATICS program is the way in which the questions are graded. The extremely fine gradation of questions allows the system to make sure that a child is truly thorough with a sub-concept, before moving on to the next. Also, it helps in pinpointing exactly where the child is having difficulties.

This adaptive logic ensures that the child does not have trouble in higher classes due to a problem with the basics. 2.4.2 Overcoming Errors And Misconceptions

Many students have misunderstanding of basic concepts that they carry forward from an early age. It is important to identify those and help the child overcome them. Most often, a child does not try to clear these misconceptions due to a lack of opportunity or fear of embarrassment.

Whenever a student goes wrong in a particular type of question in E-KIDS MATHEMATICS, a detailed, concept based explanation is provided for it. Often, the explanations are visual or animated rather than just textual, to facilitate quick grasping. This system of providing explanations allows the student to revisit the concept, and quickly figure out how to tackle subsequent problems on the concept.

2.4.3. Promoting Real Understanding And Analytical Abilities

One of the most unique features of the E-KIDS MATHEMATICS program is its focus on understanding and analytical thinking, not just knowledge of facts, or drill in procedures.

This is one of the key factors that really distinguish the E-KIDS MATHEMATICS program from any other learning program. But today, what any student really needs to move ahead in life is real understanding, and analytical abilities – and that is what the E-KIDS-MATHS program aims to foster. 2.4.4 Understanding More Advanced Or Complex Topics

The topics in E-KIDS MATHEMATICS are not encumbered with artificial barriers of learning like classes and grade levels. This allows a student strong in a content area to go to advanced problems in that. A student who is gifted could even attempt advanced problems and topics beyond the prescribed curriculum for her grade level.

2.4.5 Understanding Areas Of Strength And Weakness

E-KIDS-MATHS also understands the key role that teachers and parents play to help the child learn effectively. In order to help parents and educators track a student's progress at any time, E-KIDS-MATHS has a system of providing detailed weekly reports. The report provides the parents with the details of how their kid is doing in different topics and concepts. The teacher report provides a summary and the details of how each student is progressing on different topics and concepts.

3.1.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY ON E-KIDS BRAINY ARITHMETIC For some people, some food causes allergy. Similarly, for some students, mathematics seems to be an allergy. To get relief from such allergic conditions and at the same time to create a condition wherein students begin to evince interest in doing problems in mathematics. Our Brainy Arithmetic comes to the rescue. Numbers have fascinated man since their inception. They demand very fine sense of discrimination, alertness, and power of reasoning. There is no doubt in the fact that dealing with numbers calls for the best the human mind can give. The numbers have become inseparable part of our curriculum and our daily life. In most of the competitive examinations conducted by IIT's (Indian Institute of Technology), IIM's (Indian Institute of Management) , other engineering and management course entrance examinations, the ability of candidate with familiarity with numbers and fundamentals is tested against time. It has been observed that most of the students who are selected for these prestigious competitions have very keen understanding of number, which traditionally comes after a lot of practice and memorizing tables, squares, cubes of numbers up to two or three digits. This is a very tedious and time-consuming task, a student who is weak in mathematics is either ill prepared in this subject or his/her other subjects get ignored.

3.4.0 OUR INSPIRATION IN MENTAL ARITHMETIC

We have done thorough analysis on various mental arithmetic techniques all over the world and we have created our own model of bringing the best to get 100% assured outcome without using paper & pencil. The following methods are practiced all over the world. Every system has their own merits and demerits as far as the learner’s enthusiasm is concerned. 1. Indian Vedic Mathematics 2. Japanese Komon Method 3. Switzerland Trachtenberg Speed System

3.5.0 OUR METHODS OF APPROACH 3.5.1 OBJECTIVE

The objective of E-KIDS BRAINY ARITHMETIC is to do calculations in mind itself without any physical instruments. This training will enhance a Student's ability to do calculation without the aid of any instrument such as the calculator, abacus etc. The Student will be able to calculate with speed and accuracy using his own mental power and can surpass the speed of even a calculator  Do your Students hate mathematics?  Would you like to make mathematics more interesting and fun for your Students?  Would you like your Student to become 10 times more efficient in all Page | 35 ©All Rights Reserved. www.e-kids.in

E-KIDS BRAINY ARITHMETIC PROJECT SYNOPSIS

that they do?

Then the answer is As the name suggests, speed is the essence of this program. By making your Student perform some impossible calculations at Lightning speed would make mathematics, literally a Student's play and help them to perform exemplarily in their studies. This course is specifically designed to help students enjoy mathematics and right mix of fun, memory techniques, memory recall, application of formulate makes your Student a super performer.

E-KIDS BRAINY ARITHMETIC not only helps Students in their Student hood to perform, but this tool comes handy when they have to face this competitive world. It would help them in any competitive examination to score high marks and come out with flying colours. 3.5.2 WON’T THIS CREATE MORE BURDENS ON THE STUDENT?

There is no extra burden on the Student during the training through E-KIDS BRAINY ARITHMETIC but due to this fact the brain is developed and hence the regular studies also become easier. All over the World students are undergoing mental arithmetic training without any burden and get knowledge combined with fun and play. Like other training program, E-KIDS BRAINY ARITHMETIC also has syllabus but the entire training programs are easy and burden less. The Student should start taking interest themselves, which is the primary motive of our objective.

3.5.3 BENEFITS OF THE PROGRAM

Square roots, multiplication, division, solution to equations and much tougher calculations can be arrived at without using a tool. It makes mathematics easy and enjoyable and encourages innovation. The simplicity of this program is that calculations are carried out mentally. The advantages in using such a mental system helps a student to come up with own methods instead of a defined method. This helps to become more flexible and creative in their thinking. The development of creativity by means of SPEED & LOGIC MATHS at a young age is helpful towards understanding advanced concepts. This alternate view to computational arithmetic helps the right side of the brain to see a creative view to arithmetic and gain an enhanced perspective. SPEED & LOGIC MATHS concentrates in the following areas: Arithmetic computations, theory of numbers, compound multiplication, algebraic operations, factorizations, simple quadratic and higher order equations, simultaneous equations, partial fractions, calculus, squares, cubes, square root, cube root, geometry etc
