Escape from Hell It's not often that I am surprised by the ending of popular fiction these days, even speculative fiction. I knew how some of it had to play out but not like that. It was awesome and it adds some humor to a serious topic. Throughout half that book I read the instrument of chaos lugged along like it was just some pointless thing. It just goes full circle and it actually is pretty funny. People can write their insipid reviews all day but it's not like they are out there publishing novels that compete with Niven and Pournelle.
Laundry Man Laundry Man is so authentic because author Jake Needham is the real deal- an American expat intimately familiar with Thailand. Trust me, I lived in Thailand for nine years and after the first chapter, waves of familiar memories flooded over me, invoking the street sounds, cooking aromas and general rush I personally experienced there.
London Match The book brilliantly puts all of this human emotion and drama into play as well as other domestic issues pressing in on Bernard. Fiona may try to take away their children, to live with her in East Berlin. Fiona's father, wealthy, better able to provide, and a doting grand-dad also wants the children and Bernard fears he may attempt a legal move. It's left to Bernard to deal with all of this and still find out who is the mole in MI6.
Marked Jackson is bad-boy with the tats and the in-charge attitude. He's smug, cocky, and alpha male goodness. He's no lap dog, but he does have a sweeter side to him, one that wants to protect the heroine at all costs. Chloe is young, 22, sheltered and comes across as somewhat innocent. She's definitely confused about what's happening to her. Unknown to her, she's half-were and about to go into her first season. This mating heat is causing her senses to
heighten, her eye color to change, and her physical desires to ramp up. It's these desires for her mate that cause her instincts kick in and track down Jackson. It's nature, instinct, and a bit of fate.
Mexico Set Blood is spilt, sometimes innocent blood, sometimes not so innocent. Bernard is loyal, confused, older, tripped up by forces that should be aiding him but who have their own agendas. Erich Stinnes, the KGB officer who interrogated him in East Berlin says to him, "I hate deskmen." Samson replies "Me too. They're bloody dangerous."

The Ringworld Throne If you read the others, you have to read this one, That is the ONLY reason to read it, too. His plot is thin and his characters are stale. Still, if you made it through the first two, you will find some closure in this one. (At the very least, you can say you read them all.) The science behind his fiction is so close to scientific possibility that something always brings readers back to see what he has dreamed up next. Pity Niven lacks punch when her writes on his own. His book with Pournelle are stellar.
One Night One night is well written, and holds the reader's attention, but a certain taste for 'the gruesome and the grim' is required. Entertaining and worth reading.
Phantoms of Breslau Pretty good, certainly sets the mood of an era gone by and a place that is no longer. He does get a little fantastical for me But I will be reading his other books in this series.
Reckoning (Dark Prophecy) I found the description and concept of this book to be very interesting and unique. The story had a great mix of mystery, action, romance, and adventure. The writing was well done and flowed effortless with the plot being fast paced. The characters were intriguing and really likable - I could easily identify with Kat and her struggles and I liked the character of her best friend, Rachel too. I liked the unique history and story behind Kat's gift and her curse, as well as the paranormal world that the author creates. I think it added an unique aspect to the book and sets it apart from
other YA paranormal books. This will be a fantastic series for fans of paranormal fiction and I'm excited to see how the story progresses in the next book.
Santa Maybe I read this last year when Scarlett released it as a digital advent calendar on Twitter and only allowed us eager readers one page per day (as is tradition). Now I get to read it all in one go, whenever I want :) Scarlett Bailey knows how to write good men (and bad men) and always has the most amazing settings. Those who love this will love The Night Before Christmas.

Second Son If you're hoping for some kind of formative, coming-of-age event in Reacher's past, you might be disappointed. What readers get here is a young Reacher who is already about as calculating and decisive as he'll ever be. Still, if they take it for what it is (a new Reacher story that just happens to take place 37 years ago), I think fans of the series will enjoy this one. I know I did.
Seen and Not Heard Take out the romance part of the book and the story was okay. Although it did take me about four days to read the book, when I usually read most of Ms. Stuart's book in one day (or late into the night). I'm not sorry I read the book as I will read any Anne Stuart book I come across, because I really like most of her books and I can now add this one to my collection.
Severed Severed picks up the story just after the ending of the previous book, Lucas and Evie went against everything they were taught in order to be together and are now on the run. It wasn't so hard for Evie to choose Lucas as she has only recently learnt that she is a hunter and she has very good reasons not to trust the people who were keeping secrets from her for her entire life. It has been much harder for Lucas to leave behind the other unhumans that he grew up with though, people who he considers his friends are now treating him like the enemy but he can't walk away from Evie and the feelings he has for her. The two of them aren't strong enough to fight a whole army on their own though and end up turning to a group of rogue hunters for help. There is understandable tension between Lucas and the hunters but they'll have to learn to trust each other if they are going to stop everything that is coming for them.
Spy Hook
The start of the 2nd Trilogy, following on from 'Game, Set and Match'. This story starts with the problem of missing funds (1/2 million pounds). Bernard, ever the gopher and trouble-shooter (or is it just that he get's things done) is sent to Washington to find out what Jim Prettyman can tell London about the missing funds. Jim's not talking. First, he refuses to tell Bernard anything and then, just hours later, is apparently murdered.
Spy Line Spy Line has more action than the previous novel. Samson proves himself an adept field agent even after years behind a desk. But he isn't a James Bond type superhero he's a dedicated public servant who wants to uncover the truth even if his superiors would prefer that the truth be kept secret. The minor characters in Spy Line really shine: they bumble, they seduce, they act shamefully or unselfishly in short, they behave as inconsistently and unpredictably as real people, and real people is what they feel like.

Spy Sinker Sinker is the sixth book in Deighton's series starring the middle aged and "past it" British spy Bernard Samson. However, this book is different from the other five in that it is written in the third person rather than the first. This allows the reader a greater insight into the doings of other members of the cast, particularly Brett, and makes us realise how Bernard has been used as a pawn in the bigger picture. Previously we were encouraged to believe that Bernard knew everything, that he was the professional in this game played out by amateurs behind their desks in London.
Sinker lets us into the world of Fiona, Bernard's estranged wife who defected to the other side and works for the Stasi in East Berlin. Deighton examines Fiona's life and her fears thoughtfully and realistically, but once again showing how she too is little more than a pawn in what is and also has been a man's game based on old promises, betrayal and the old school tie system.
Stranger in Town Stranger in Town is the latest book in the Sloane Monroe series written by Cheryl Bradshaw. It is awesome, I downloaded it as soon as it hit Amazon and 5 hours later I am hoping there is another one coming. I don't want to say to much to spoil for those just getting started but this is an awesome book, you will love it, new twists and turns and I am so liking one character in particular...that is all I will say. Great job Cheryl.....
The Angel's Game I opened this book expecting a novel similar to The Shadow of the Wind. That was silly of me, and The Angel's Game is very different. The story is much darker and uses many more supernatural elements. There are sections that you read and then think you must have dreamed as they are barely ever alluded to again. There is a great deal of physical violence and disturbing psychological drama. It is an angry book, full of theological debates and the hard truth that sometimes, things just don't end perfectly. There are so many characters- and some characters with many personaethat it is easy to get confused. In fact, I must admit, I'm not entirely sure exactly what happened in the last fifty pages or so. I feel like the writing just kept going and when you thought things were being resolved, it ended up they were not, and then you were right back in the midst of the teeming, complicated plot once more.
The End of the World in Breslau Highly recommended, but probably not for everyone. There is nothing even remotely cutesy or nice about this story. It is pure seedy, steamy and hard core noir that does not let up and which gets you in its unrelenting grip, keeping you there until the last page is turned. It's claustrophobic and edgy in short, my kind of crime fiction.
The Fleet Street Murders Another excellent story in the Charles Lenox series. This one is the third. The plot is a little more involved in this one more lines, I think, than in the last two. Followers of the series will remember that at the end of the second installment The September Society Lenox proposed marriage to Lady Jane Grey and was asked to stand for a seat in Parliament. Here, despite the pressures of campaigning in a rural area, he is trying to keep abreast of the developments in two seemingly linked murders back in London and maintain his relationship with Lady Jane. I can highly recommend this book.

This anthology includes not only the Nebula Award-winning works in each short-form category, but also all the nominees in the novelette and short story categories. Here you will find colourful fantasy, outstanding speculative fiction, steampunk, edgy writing on the fringes of the mainstream and uncompromisingly hard SF in stories set in the distant past, an off-kilter present day, the far future or sometimes in between.
The Medusa Plot This new spinoff series from the original 39 Clues books starts off with an adventurous bang. Gordon Korman takes the lead novel and does an outstanding job with lots of excitement, nonstop action and more around-the-world quests. In the first book, he shoots Dan and Amy off to Florence, Italy, to hunt down the famous and grotesque painting of the severed Medusa head. He uses lots of vivid imagery to set the scenes, giving readers a unique look at the story. Dan and Amy are a bit older, with different hurdles to overcome and mountains to traverse Amy is in a serious relationship, and Dan is struggling with some depression. This may explain why the humor is a bit keyed down here as compared to previous installments, though the story does have some funny parts.
The Sword of Damascus The Umayyad Caliph Muawiya, having defeated the partisans of Ali in a civil war, reigns from the recently conquered city of Damascus. The Caliphate conceals barely suppressed political divisions, as the family and close associates of the Prophet simmer with resentment back in the Hejaz, and Muawiya creates a new aristocracy of his own from converted Greeks and Syrians. Of course the Byzantine Empire, shrunk to a core of the City and its European provinces, has its spoon in the political stew of the Caliphate. And all these factions, each for reasons of its own, want Aelric who once saved the City with his invention of Greek Fire in Damascus. The first-person perspective, from Aelric's extreme old age, of the transitoriness of human affairs, and overshadowed by the prospect of his mortality, give this story bittersweet overtones lacking from the others.

Widowmaker Terror in the Trees, the latest uber-low budget slasher flick is slaying people... literally. But is it all hype or is there an evil force behind the supposed deaths? Special Agent Bolder had best find out before the President attends the Hollywood premiere...
Winter The strength of the story is in character development. Pauli is not weak, or evil. There is no basic character flaw here that led him to serve the Nazis. He's not A Nazi himself, nor is he anti-semitic.
A Place Called Armageddon Each of the characters is very distinctive and the interaction between them ranges from the expected to quite a few twists and turns. All these personal threads mix in various ways and produce a lot of emotional moments, sometimes in quite unexpected places. Despite the different and often opposite interests and goals, the author is very skilled at making us care for all his main characters, including the ones who would have been so easy to depict as "evil", like Theon Lascari or the Sultan Mehmet. Of course by the same token, not everyone can succeed, so there is heartbreak galore, but there is joy too and the ending is just superb with an epilogue 7 years later, followed by one just three weeks after the end of the siege. This offers a chance at a great twist which actually surprised me though I have seen it before in a G.G. Kay novel.
Above All Things
I read this book and held my breath for a good portion of it! I found it absolutely amazing that this book is the first one written by Ms. Rideout. She captured the excitement and the tension of George's climb, as well as his wife, Ruth's, sadness, worry and the extreme love between them.
Angelmaker Think of the "Angelmaker" as a sort of shape-shifting novel, by parts sci-fi, adventure, comedy, and tragedy. It's essentially three connected stories stitched together, though not quite seamlessly. The first story, and easily the best, introduces Joe Spork. The son of one of Britain's greatest criminals, he spends his life admiring his father but trying to follow his grandfather's straight-laced footsteps as a clockmaker. Joe wanders through a Victorian part of London that's become lost to the law-abiding, travelling with friends and acquaintances who are most decidedly different. This part is so quirky, so Marty Feldmanish type of off-the-wall loony, that you have to reread some of the pages until you get the hang of it. To say Harkaway has a wicked sense of humour doesn't do him justice by half anyone who can conceive of a dog with a single tooth and two glass eyes has a truly demented and tortured soul. And the test of the Waiting-Men-to-be is something you dare not read on the bus or in an airport. The second story starts during WWII, and ushers in the gender-bending Edie and Frankie, a fledgling British spy and a genius French inventor who's been co-opted by a megalomaniacal Eastern tyrant to build a doomsday device. This is much darker than the first story, almost shocking in highlighting the villain's depravity. While it has its highpoints, it suffers by the jarring contrast. The third story is the strange tale of Spork's revenge. It's a mix of the first two stories but pumped up on steroids. With his new girlfriend at his side, Spork blasts into action to save the world, and get a measure of vengeance in the bargain. Utterly manic and bizarre, it drifts too far into the realm of comic book ethos to be fully satisfying.

Arielle: Immortal Awakening I thoroughly enjoyed reading this fantastic book!
Bah, Humbug! This was a fun, quick book to read, especially for the holiday season. It is so nice to read a clean romance novel. Heather does a wonderful job with this book as well as all of her others!
Berlin Game Samson worries about all of the things all of us do. His passion for his wife Fiona is often visited by equal doses of lust and insecurity. His car is shot when is going to be able to pick up his new set of wheels? His boredom with the job and his immediate superiors are both frustrating and funny. One thing is clear, though, Bernard Samson holds loyalty above all. When he was much younger and the East German Police were closing in on him, a planted agent whom we know now only as "Brahms Four" comes back to get him, and saves Bernard's life. Now years later, that anonymous agent wants out and he wants Bernard to bring him out.
Born to Darkness In the not too distance future (no date is given) a new highly illicit drug name Destiny is making its rounds. It promises to reverse aging and to bring strength and vitality. However, because of its rarity, it is extremely expensive. What they also don't tell you is that it is instantly addictive....and there's also a good chance to spontaneously and violently lose your mind (aka Jokering) at any moment. What they also are not going to tell you that the main ingredient for their drug comes from the hormones found in the blood of specially selected young girls strapped to hospital beds kept in a constant state of horrific terror.
Darkness Before the Dawn This is the final book in one of Anne Stuart's early series. I should let you know I am a series junkie so I do love this book. I am also an Anne Stuart junkie. She is one of my favorite authors so I am really happy with this book, though it is happy and sad at once. It is a romantic suspense with a Noir twist.

Death in Breslau: An Eberhard Mock Investigation The story begins in 1950 in a Dresden psychiatric hospital, where the director is being pressed by a Stasi official who wants to question the patient named Herbert Anwaldt. Herbert Anwaldt's identity and the reason he is a patient are questions the author answers as the book moves back and forward in time, beginning in 1933 in Breslau (now Wroc'aw). The main character of this novel (and the four that follow) is Counsellor Eberhard Mock, who in 1933 was the Deputy Head of the Criminal Department of the Police Praesidium. That year, Hermann Goring had taken over the posts of Minister of Internal Affairs and Chief of the Prussian police. The Nazis had become very active in the Police Praesidium, and an entire wing of the building had been taken over by the Gestapo.
Eight Keys While I loved this story, Eight Keys was hard for me to get into at first. Elise's experience of feeling like she doesn't fit in is something that most pre-teens will be able to relate to, yet her reaction-like purposely missing the bus, and her constant inability to do her homework, seemed out of character for her. Still, even though I can find some flaws in this one, tween readers will enjoy this story and understand the struggles that Elise faces
Escape Out of Darkness
This is an older Anne Stuart series. It is a Noir type series. The first book is really good. I highly recommend this book. This was during the time that she was really writing very successfully. She is one of my favorite authors so you should know I am smitten with her. Some of her descriptions of feelings about her love interest are unique and soul touching.
Fatal Melody For centuries, I have killed men just by the power of my voice. I never touch them, I simply sing. But another little boy washed up at my feet today. And I can't take it anymore.
G'Day USA This novel is a fast paced suspense/mystery that had my heart jumping multiple times. The characters are individuals, which I love. They all have their own dialect, their own personalities. One of my favorite characters was Ann, the homeless woman that turns into Ellie's greatest ally, was phenomenal. Tony did a great job of putting us in her shoes and how it might be to live as a person who was dealt one of the bad hands in life.

Garden Spells As a first time novelist, Allen bewitches with savory prose and keen insight, leaving this reader to want more. Think of the very best fairy tale you were ever told now pick up "Garden Spells" and read one of the best magical stories for adults this reader has enjoyed in a long, long time.
Graveyard Dust I have been reading Barbara Hambly's science fiction for years. When I saw that she had written a series of books based on a free man of color, as an African American I was skeptical of what her view would be. I have been pleasantly surprised. I could not put Fever Season down and anxiously waited for Graveyard Dust. Both books are meals which should be slowly savored, with new tastes and smells to entice the palate on every page. I think the characterizations are on the money, with Benjamin's mother an excellent case in point. I like Rose Vitrac the best, but I have known Dominique's and the rest of the crowd in my life, as well as Olympe's and Benjamin's. I think Olympe's character could be better developed but I'm sure this is something the author will work on. I suggest readers sit back and read slowly. The reward is great.
Harlequin Holiday Collection: Four Classic Seasonal Novellas I enjoyed this anthology! It put me in the holiday mood! It's always nice to read quick stories that you can read one or two at a time. I know all of these authors so I enjoyed each of these stories!
Insurrection The year is 1286 and Scotland is in the grip of one of the worst winters in living memory. Some believe the Day of Judgement has come. The King of Scotland is murdered by one of his squires, a deed pre-meditated by his own brother-in-law, the King of England, a thousand miles away in France. The Prophecy of Merlin has decreed that only when the four relics of Britain have been gathered will one man rule a united kingdom, and Edward I is determined to fulfil it. The murder of Scotland's king is thus just the first in a chain of events that will alter the face of Britain forever. But all is not destined to go Edward's way. Out of the ashes of war, through blood feuds and divided loyalties, a young squire will rise to defy England's greatest king. His name is Robert the Bruce. And his story begins in Insurrection.
Killing Plato
The plot unfolds very nicely, revealing just who Plato Karsarkis is, what he has done and not done, and why he is a very real threat to many powerful people. As with the other Jake Needham novels I have read, clever dialogue is one of the best features of Killing Plato.

TheRapist The genre for Therapist is ‘Chick Grit’. Therapist is a psychological thriller steeped in sex, intrigue, romance and murder about six people living on the edge between London and Los Angeles. Their lives are unknowingly intertwined, their minds having been ripped and reworked, the damage caused by therapists. TheRapist leads you to believe you are about to embark on a certain journey, then recklessly transports you to another place and time, taking you through a gamut of emotions, evoking sensory reactions, whether comforting or disturbing. TheRapist will both shock and delight, leaving you adrift in a realm of excitement and horror. It is universally thought that Therapists help people for some, this is true, but for others, this can only be described as torment. Therapists who appear to listen, barely uttering a word and when they do, it is merely the suggestion of reclaiming the difficulties of the past in order to move to the future. This is what holds the characters back and why a therapist is known as TheRapist. They rape the minds of the characters and we do not know whether to pity them, love them, hope for them or cry out for them. Devon Cage, a successful, beautiful, tormented woman, who is not as she appears. What is it that drives her and can she ever escape? Adrian, a charmingly hypnotic man, his furnace constantly brimming, his mind dragging him back from the abyss. Meringue, a striking, wanton blonde, wistfully looking for herself. Manny, the consummate Los Angeles success story...but for how long? Frankie, a girl trying to live simply on hope. And Jezzy, the one all men long for and all women long to be. Their stories are scattered throughout with monologues from various diverse characters during sessions with their therapist. You will notice that the spelling and grammar is appropriate depending on whether the character is in the US or the UK.

Orb Three months outbound from Earth and the starship Desio approaches its planetary destination, her crew eager to commence a mission of scientific discovery. Kyle Lorenzo, however, has a personal reason for being on board an inner conflict that will ultimately propel him to explore not only the furthest reaches of an enigmatic ocean world but the nebulous recesses of his inner psyche. It is during the long and isolating interstellar journey that a physical relationship develops between Kyle and the ship's physician, Kelly Takara. That part is easy. Understanding the reasons for avoiding the emotional commitment desired by Kelly is harder. So, too, is trying to penetrate the mind of Larry Melhaus, the mission's brilliant and reclusive physicist a failure of communication made exponentially more troublesome when the scientist's disturbing behavior begins to threaten the crew.
And while Kyle seeks a path to comprehending himself and Melhaus, the ship's crew, led by their strong-willed commander, Bruce Thompson, attempt to fathom a planet where none of the precepts of science seem to apply. A world where every preconceived notion of what constitutes life must be re-examined and challenged. Two divergent journeys: One inward, one outward. Strange if they culminate at the same destination...

The Lost Highway A highly suspenseful story of greed, betrayal and murder, 'The Lost Highway' signals a thrilling new direction for one of Canada s greatest authors. For twenty years, Alex Chapman has been at war with his great-uncle James, popularly known as The Tyrant. Disillusioned and ill-tempered, Alex believes James has destroyed his chances in life when things do not turn out for him. He especially resents his great-uncle for ruining his chance at happiness with his one true love, Minnie, who married another. Alex seems destined never to amount to anything more than an embittered dreamer, until the night he runs into the simple mechanic Burton Tucker. When Burton says he has just sold James Chapman a winning lottery ticket worth thirteen million dollars, Alex immediately knows that his uncle must never see the money. That moment is the beginning of an enthralling mystery and an emotionally shattering tale of a family s passions and betrayals. Cypherpunk - Freedom and the future of the Internet 2012 | ISBN: 9781939293008, 1939293006 | PDF, EPUB, MOBI | 192 pages | 7 MB Cypherpunks are activists who advocate the widespread use of strong cryptography (writing in code) as a route to progressive change. Julian Assange, the editor-in-chief of and visionary behind WikiLeaks, has been a leading voice in the cypherpunk movement since its inception in the 1980s. Now, in what is sure to be a wave-making new book, Assange brings together a small group of cutting-edge thinkers and activists from the front line of the battle for cyber-space to discuss whether electronic communications will emancipate or enslave us. Among the topics addressed are: Do Facebook and Google constitute "the greatest surveillance machine that ever existed," perpetually tracking our location, our contacts and our lives? Far from being victims of that surveillance, are most of us willing collaborators? Are there legitimate forms of surveillance, for instance in relation to the "Four Horsemen of the Infopocalypse" (money laundering, drugs, terrorism and pornography)? And do we have the ability, through conscious action and technological savvy, to resist this tide and secure a world where freedom is something which the Internet helps bring about? The harassment of WikiLeaks and other Internet activists, together with attempts to introduce anti-file sharing legislation such as SOPA and ACTA, indicate that the politics of the Internet have reached a crossroads. In one direction lies a future that guarantees, in the watchwords of the cypherpunks, "privacy for the weak and transparency for the powerful"; in the other lies an Internet that allows government and large corporations to discover ever more about internet users while hiding their own activities. Assange and his co-discussants unpick the complex issues surrounding this crucial choice with clarity and engaging enthusiasm.

Fugitives: Evading and Escaping the Japanese 2002 | ISBN-10: 0813122244 | PDF | 160 pages | 3 MB " When the Japanese Imperial Forces invaded the Philippine Islands at the onset of World War II, they quickly rounded up Allied citizens on Luzon and imprisoned them as enemy aliens. These captured civilians were treated inhumanely from the start, and news of the atrocities committed by the enemy soon spread to the more remote islands to the south. Hearing this, many of the expatriates living there refused to surrender as their islands were occupied. Fugitives, based on the memoir of Jordan A. Hamner, tells the true story of a young civilian mining engineer trapped on the islands during the Japanese invasion. Instead of surrendering, he and two American co-workers volunteered their services to the Allied armed forces engaged in the futile effort to stave off the enemy onslaught. When the overwhelmed defenders surrendered to the invaders, the three men fled farther into the disease-ridden mountainous jungle. After nearly a year of nomadic wandering, they found a derelict, twenty-one foot long lifeboat in a secluded coastal bay. Hoping to sail to freedom in Australia, the trio converted the craft into a sailboat, and called it the "Or Else." They would make it to Australia -- or else. With only a National Geographic magazine map of the Malacca Islands for navigation, Hamner, his two compatriots, and two Filipino crewmen sailed their unseaworthy craft fifteen hundred nautical miles over seas controlled by the Japanese navy, touching land only briefly to replenish meager rations or evade enemy vessels. After thirty perilous days at sea, marked by nearly disastrous encounters with hostile islanders, imminent starvation, and tropical storms, the desperate fugitives reached the welcome shores of Australia.
How to Know God: The Soul's Journey into the Mystery of Mysteries
Published: 2000-02-22 | ISBN: 0609600788 | PDF | 336 pages | 17 MB The best-selling author of Ageless Body, Timeless Mind and The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success has written his most ambitious and important work yet -- an exploration of the idea that everyone can have the direct experience of divinity. According to Chopra, the brain is hardwired to know God. The human nervous system has seven biological responses that correspond to seven levels of divine experience. These are shaped not by any one religion (they are shared by all), but by the brain's need to take an infinite, chaotic universe and find meaning in it. As we make sense of the swirling "quantum soup," we inevitably find the face of God. In this remarkable book Chopra shows us how. And along the way we delve into such mysteries as religious awakening, ecstasy, genius, telepathy, multiple personality, and clairvoyance -- all parts of the "mind field" that quantum physics discovered almost a hundred years ago. This invisible place, although it appears to be an empty void, is actually the womb of creation. Here God is our co-creator in the constant process of self-creation that is life itself. As we come to know God better, we gain direct access to healing, love, and miracles. How to Know God is Deepak Chopra's writing at its very best, an internationally celebrated blend of philosophy and science applied to the greatest subject of all. This is the quest each of us is on, whether we realize it or not. For, as Chopra writes, "God is our highest instinct to know ourselves." This book makes a dramatic and enduring contribution to that knowledge.

My Happy Days in Hollywood A Memoir (Audiobook) English | 2012 | ISBN: 0307970485 | ASIN: B007WZTQSI | 11 hours and 6 minutes | MP3 | 457 MB Once called a legend in his own time slot, Garry Marshall has been among the most successful writers, directors, and producers in America for more than five decades. As a comedy writer who began his career during television's last "golden age" writing for Dick Van Dyke, he went on to produce some of the most beloved sitcoms in television history, including The Odd Couple, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, and Mork & Mindy.
Marshall's enormous influence as a director has been felt in film as well, in such classic motion pictures as The Flamingo Kid, Beaches, Pretty Woman, and The Princess Diaries. His work on the big screen has delighted audiences for the last three decades and has withstood the test of time. In My Happy Days in Hollywood, Marshall takes us on a journey from his stickball-playing days in the Bronx to his time at the helm of some of the most popular television series and movies of all time, sharing the joys and challenges of working with the Fonz and the young Julia Roberts, the "street performer" Robin Williams, and the young Anne Hathaway, among many others. This honest, vibrant, and often hilarious memoir reveals a man whose career has been defined by his drive to make people laugh and whose personal philosophy - despite his tremendous achievements - has always been that life is more important than show business.

Cause of Death (Scarpetta Novel 7) (Audiobook) English | 2002 | ISBN: 1402528949 | MP3 | 191 MB An investigative reporter is found dead in Virginia's icy waters ...New Year's Eve and the final murder scene of Virginia's bloodiest year takes Scarpetta thirty feet below the Elizabeth River's icy surface. A diver, Ted Eddings, is dead, an investigative reporter who was a favourite at the Medical Examiner's office. Was Eddings probing the frigid depths of the Inactive Shipyard for a story, or simply diving for sunken trinkets? And why did Scarpetta receive a phone call from someone reporting the death before the police were notified? The case envelops Scarpetta, her niece Lucy, and police captain Pete Marino in a world where both cutting-edge technology and old-fashioned detective work are critical offensive weapons. Together they follow the trail of death to a well of violence as dark and forbidding as water that swirled over Ted Eddings.
The Body Farm (Scarpetta Novel 5) (Audiobook) English | 2004 | ISBN: 0743537491 | ASIN: B000PTYOC6 | 2007 | MP3 | 240 MB Little Emily Steiner left a church meeting late one afternoon and strolled toward home along a lakeside path; a week later, her nude body was discovered, bound in blaze-orange duct tape. Called by the North Carolina authorities, forensic pathologist Kay Scarpetta recognizes similarities to the gruesome work of a serial killer who has long eluded the FBI. But as she tries to make sense of the evidence, she is left with questions that lead her to the Body Farm, a little-known research facility in Tennessee where, with the help of some grisly experiments, she might discover the answer. It is Scarpetta alone who can interpret the forensic hieroglyphics that eventually reveal a solution to the case as staggering as it is horrifying. But she must also endeavor to help her niece, Lucy, who is embroiled in controversy at Quantico. And Scarpetta, too, is vulnerable, as she opens herself to the first physical and emotional bond she has felt in far too long a time. Tenacious and brilliant, tender and gentle, this is Scarpetta even more realized and poignant than we've seen her before - in a stunning achievement from a best-selling author at the peak of her powers.

For William 'Billy' Fisher, an energetic imagination makes life tolerable, but well-nigh intolerable for all around him. He lies his way into and out of every situation, making any promise to get him out of trouble, thereby creating ever more tortuous entanglements to be wriggled out of in the future. Billy dreams of escaping the dull drudgery of his life at home with his parents and grandmother in the monotony of his stifling Yorkshire hometown. He has three fiancĂŠes and a truly dead-end job as an undertaker's clerk, but dreams of becoming a writer for a comedian and escaping his everyday life. Unable to separate fantasy from reality, Billy becomes embroiled in a mess no lie will eradicate; the web of lies will bring many a chuckle to listeners, but will the outcome of his mistruths be quite as funny to Billy? Quasi-comic, this novel has enjoyed many interpretations, as a film, play, musical, TV series and now, an unabridged audiobook.

Notorious Nineteen (Audiobook) English | 2012 | ISBN: 0307932540 | ASIN: B00A2ZIVR2 | 6 hours and 7 minutes | MP3 | 167 MB Number-one best-selling author Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels are: "irresistible" (Houston Chronicle), "stunning" (Booklist), "outrageous" (Publishers Weekly), "brilliantly evocative" (The Denver Post), and "making trouble and winning hearts" (USA Today). New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is certain of three truths: People don't just vanish into thin air. Never anger old people. And don't do what Tiki tells you to do. After a slow summer of chasing low-level skips for her cousin Vinnie's bail bonds agency, Stephanie Plum finally lands an assignment that could put her checkbook back in the black. Geoffrey Cubbin, facing trial for embezzling millions from Trenton's premier assisted-living facility, has mysteriously vanished from the hospital after an emergency appendectomy. Now it's on Stephanie to track down the con man. Unfortunately, Cubbin has disappeared without a trace, a witness, or his money-hungry wife. Rumors are stirring that he must have had help with the daring escape...or that maybe he never made it out of his room alive. Since the hospital staff's lips seem to be tighter than the security, and it's hard for Stephanie to blend in to assisted living, Stephanie's Grandma Mazur goes in undercover. But when a second felon goes missing from the same hospital, Stephanie is forced into working side by side with Trenton's hottest cop, Joe Morelli, in order to crack the case.
The real problem is, no Cubbin also means no way to pay the rent. Desperate for money - or maybe just desperate Stephanie accepts a secondary job guarding her secretive and mouthwatering mentor Ranger from a deadly Special Forces adversary. While Stephanie is notorious for finding trouble, she may have found a little more than she bargained for this time around. Then again - a little food poisoning, some threatening notes, and a bridesmaid's dress with an excess of taffeta never killed anyone.... Or did the...
Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking English | 2012 | ISBN: 0739341243 | ASIN: B00714PZMQ | 10 hours and 39 minutes | M4B | 288 MB At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking, reading to partying; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over brainstorming in teams. Although they are often labeled "quiet," it is to introverts that we owe many of the great contributions to society-from van Gogh's sunflowers to the invention of the personal computer. Passionately argued, impressively researched, and filled with indelible stories of real people, Quiet shows how dramatically we undervalue introverts, and how much we lose in doing so. Taking the reader on a journey from Dale Carnegie's birthplace to Harvard Business School, from a Tony Robbins seminar to an evangelical megachurch, Susan Cain charts the rise of the Extrovert Ideal in the 20th century and explores its far-reaching effects. She talks to Asian-American students who feel alienated from the brash, backslapping atmosphere of American schools. She questions the dominant values of American business culture, where forced collaboration can stand in the way of innovation, and where the leadership potential of introverts is often overlooked. And she draws on cutting-edge research in psychology and neuroscience to reveal the surprising differences between extroverts and introverts. Perhaps most inspiring, she introduces us to successful introverts--from a witty, high-octane public speaker who recharges in solitude after his talks, to a record-breaking salesman who quietly taps into the power of questions. Finally, she offers invaluable advice on everything from how to better negotiate differences in introvert-extrovert relationships to how to empower an introverted child to when it makes sense to be a "pretend extrovert." This extraordinary book has the power to permanently change how we see introverts and, equally important, how introverts see themselves.
The Return of the Native (Audiobook) English | 2007 | ISBN: 1572705701 | ASIN: B000K98F2G | 14 hours and 6 minutes | MP3 | 840 MB Set in Egdon Heath, a wild tract of country in the southwest of England, this is a masterpiece of dramatic tension. Clym Yeobright, a diamond merchant in Paris, returns to his home in Egdon, where he falls passionately in love with the sensuous, free-spirited Eustacia Vye. She, while in a brief state of infatuation, marries him, hoping he will take her away to a more exciting life in Paris. But Eustacia's dreams of escape are not to be realized. Clym Yeobright, the returning native, can not bring her salvation. In The Return of the Native there is a strong conflict between nature or fate, represented by Egdon Heath, and human nature, represented by Hardy's true-to-life characters. This is a novel that perfectly epitomizes Thomas Hardy's unique and melancholy genius.

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man (Audiobook) English | 2005 | ISBN: 0786181036 | ASIN: B0009JKV7E | 9 hours and 19 minutes | MP3 | 255 MB
This is the inside story of how America turned from a respected republic into a feared empire. "Economic hit men," John Perkins writes, "are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. Their tools include fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder." John Perkins should know; he was an economic hit man. His job was to convince countries that are strategically important to the U.S., from Indonesia to Panama, to accept enormous loans for infrastructure development and to make sure that the lucrative projects were contracted to Halliburton, Bechtel, Brown and Root, and other United States engineering and construction companies. Saddled with huge debts, these countries came under the control of the United States government, World Bank, and other U.S.-dominated aid agencies that acted like loan sharks, dictating repayment terms and bullying foreign governments into submission. This extraordinary real-life tale exposes international intrigue, corruption, and little-known government and corporate activities that have dire consequences for American democracy and the world.

In I'll Walk Alone, Alexandra "Zan" Moreland, a gifted, beautiful interior designer on the threshold of a successful Manhattan career, is terrified to discover that somebody is not only using her credit cards and manipulating her financial accounts to bankrupt her and destroy her reputation, but may also be impersonating her in a scheme that may involve the much more brutal crimes of kidnapping and murder. Zan is already haunted by the disappearance of her own son, Matthew, kidnapped in broad daylight two years ago in Central Park - a tragedy that has left her torn between hope and despair. Now, on what would be Matthew's fifth birthday, photos surface that seem to show Zan kidnapping her own child, followed by a chain of events that suggests somebody (but who, Zan asks herself desperately, and why?) has stolen her identity. Hounded by the press, under investigation by the police, attacked by both her angry ex-husband and a vindictive business rival, Zan, wracked by fear and pain and sustained only by her belief, which nobody else shares, that Matthew is still alive, sets out to discover who is behind this cruel hoax. What she does not realize is that with every step she takes toward the truth, she is putting herself - and those she loves most - in mortal danger from the person who has ingeniously plotted out her destruction.

The Racketeer (Audiobook) English | 2012 | ISBN: 0307943232 | ASIN: B009UX6DYA | 12 hours and 45 minutes | MP3 | 438 MB Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five. Who is the Racketeer? And what does he have to do with the judge's untimely demise? His name, for the moment, is Malcolm Bannister. Job status? Former attorney. Current residence? The Federal Prison Camp near Frostburg, Maryland.
On paper, Malcolm's situation isn't looking too good these days, but he's got an ace up his sleeve. He knows who killed Judge Fawcett, and he knows why. The judge's body was found in his remote lakeside cabin. There was no forced entry, no struggle, just two dead bodies: Judge Fawcett and his young secretary. And one large, state-of-theart, extremely secure safe, opened and emptied. What was in the safe? The FBI would love to know. And Malcolm Bannister would love to tell them. But everything has a price - especially information as explosive as the sequence of events that led to Judge Fawcett's death. And the Racketeer wasn't born yesterday.... Nothing is as it seems and everything's fair game in this wickedly clever new novel from John Grisham, the undisputed master of the legal thriller.

Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia (Audiobook) English | 2006 | ISBN: 0143058525 | ASIN: B000FDFY9O | 12 hours and 52 minutes | MP3 | 881 MB Around the time Elizabeth Gilbert turned 30, she went through an early-onslaught midlife crisis. She had everything an educated, ambitious American woman was supposed to want: a husband, a house, a successful career. But instead of feeling happy and fulfilled, she was consumed with panic, grief, and confusion. She went through a divorce, a crushing depression, another failed love, and the eradication of everything she ever thought she was supposed to be. To recover from all this, Gilbert took a radical step. In order to give herself the time and space to find out who she really was and what she really wanted, she got rid of her belongings, quit her job, and undertook a yearlong journey around the world, all alone. Eat, Pray, Love is the absorbing chronicle of that year. Her aim was to visit three places where she could examine one aspect of her own nature set against the backdrop of a culture that has traditionally done that one thing very well. In Rome, she studied the art of pleasure, learning to speak Italian and gaining the 23 happiest pounds of her life. India was for the art of devotion, and with the help of a native guru and a surprisingly wise cowboy from Texas, she embarked on four uninterrupted months of spiritual exploration. In Bali, she studied the art of balance between worldly enjoyment and divine transcendence. She became the pupil of an elderly medicine man and also fell in love the best way, unexpectedly. An intensely articulate and moving memoir of self-discovery, Eat, Pray, Love is about what can happen when you claim responsibility for your own contentment and stop trying to live in imitation of society's ideals. It is certain to touch anyone who has ever woken up to the unrelenting need for change.

Positive Discipline for Teenagers, Revised 3rd Edition: Empowering Your Teens and Yourself Through Kind and Firm Parenting English | 2012 | ISBN: 0770436552 | 272 pages | EPUB + PDF | 4 + 3 MB A Positive Approach To Raising Happy, Healthy and Mature Teenagers Adolescence can be a time of great stress and turmoil—not only for kids going through it, but for their parents as well. It’s normal for teens to explore a new sense of freedom and to redefine the ways in which they relate to their parents, and that process can sometimes leave parents feeling powerless, alienated, or excluded from their children’s lives. These effects can be magnified even further in this modern age of social networks, cell phones, and constant digital distraction. This newly revised and updated edition of Positive Discipline for Teenagers shows parents how to build stronger bridges of communication with their children, break the destructive cycles of guilt and blame that occur in parent-teen power struggles, and work toward greater mutual respect with their adolescents. At the core of the Positive Discipline approach is the understanding that teens still need their parents, just in different ways--and by better understanding who their teens really are, parents can learn to encourage both their teens and themselves, and instill good judgment without being judgmental. The methods in this book work to build vital social and life skills through encouragement and empowerment--not punishment. Truly effective parenting is about connection before correction. Over the years, millions of parents have come to trust Jane Nelsen’s classic Positive Discipline series for its consistent, commonsense approach to raising happy, responsible kids. This new edition is filled with proven, effective methods for coping with such parenting challenges as: -Fostering truly honest discussions with your teen -Helping your teen handle the online world -Turning mistakes into opportunities -Keeping your sanity while raising your teen—and making sure your own teenage issues aren’t weighing you down -Teaching your teen how to pursue the goal that make them happy…and a few that make you happy too (like chores) -Making sure you’re on your teen’s side, and that they know that -Avoiding the pitfalls of excessive control and excessive permissiveness

Saving Faith (Audiobook) English | 1999 | ISBN: 1570427712 | M4B | 554 MB It sounds like a movie pitch: "The story is like Tom Clancy crossed with John Grisham set in the Washington D.C. political world." But David Baldacci's Saving Faith successfully fuses elements from both of these chart-busters in this political thriller spiced with techno-wizardry.The villain is a classic spy caricature: cold-war CIA super-patriot Robert Thornhill wants to reclaim the glory days of the Central Intelligence Agency--when money flowed like the Mississippi during a flood, and the FBI watched helplessly from the sidelines. Working from his secret underground bunker, he blackmails Danny Buchanan, one of the great Washington lobbyists, to front an enormous bribery scheme that will force Congress to bend to the CIA's whims. But Thornhill's plan springs a leak: Buchanan's assistant Faith Lockhart discovers her boss's dirty dealings, and she intends to expose the whole mess to Thornhill's nemesis, the FBI. Thornhill's associates attempt to assassinate Faith, but their bullet kills her FBI escort instead. Faith finds herself on the run with Lee Adams, a fit-and-trim PI who had been shadowing her at the behest of Buchanan. If all this sounds a bit confusing, it is at times. Baldacci works hard to keep the tension steadily rising, but it is sometimes difficult to remember why Faith and Lee can't just stop running and go for help. Nevertheless, they are very likable heroes, and Baldacci's depiction of the world of lobbyists and the internecine warfare of the FBI and CIA (complete with state-of-the-art spy gadgets and transmission-proof chambers) elevates the novel with details that can come only from careful research. --Patrick O'Kelley

Aphrodite (Audiobook) English | 2004 | ISBN: 1593352611 | ASIN: B001J1M5FW | 11 hours and 9 minutes | M4B | 306 MB It looked for all the world like a terrible, tragic accident. Susanna Morgan had gotten up in the middle of the night, tripped, fallen, and broken her neck. Yet when detective Justin Westwood inspects the victim’s apartment, he can’t help noticing that the details don’t quite add up. The glass on the bedside table is knocked over but there are no cuts on her body. The scrape on her knee looks suspiciously fresh. And then a terrified witness comes forward, confirming his worst fear. This is no accident. This is murder. Justin Westwood moved to East End Harbor to escape a dark, disturbing past, and to lead a quiet life. He had retreated from reality by taking a menial post with a small-town Long Island police department, drowning his troubles in mindless traffic duty and lots of booze. Now his dormant professionalism is awakened after Susanna’s brutal murder. This is just the kind of reality check that Justin needs, and he will stop at nothing to get to the bottom of this madness - to find the meaning of the mysterious "Aphrodite" - and maybe save himself in the process.
A Murder of Promise (Audiobook) English | 2004 | ISBN: 1593351356 | ASIN: B001J1M5F2 | 9 hours and 30 minutes | M4B | 381 MB When legendary Washington Post reporter Mary Keegan is found murdered, homicide detectives Frank Kearney and Jose Phelps pull up the file on another open case. There as here, the victim was a female who had been hacked to death in a public park. And there is one other link: each was missing a little finger, a grisly souvenir - perhaps the calling card of a serial killer. When, a week later, a third woman is found in similar circumstances, they're sure of it. Kearney and Phelps are certain the killer will strike again and know they're working against time. Using the best evidence modern forensics and computer science can supply and the good guesswork twenty-five years of homicide investigations have sharpened, they begin to see some patterns, but not enough to connect up the dots. Then the finger of one of the victims is found sealed inside a plastic baggie in a raided crack house. Cutting corners, pulling in favors, they track the evidence back to what they believe will be the killer, only to find he is one step ahead of them. In a climactic nightmare chase, Kearney races to save the person dearest to him as he faces off against a cunning homicidal maniac.
A Murder of Honor (Audiobook) English | 2005 | ISBN: 1596007486 | ASIN: B001J1M4XA | 7 hours and 58 minutes | M4B | 330 MB In the world of cops, drive-by killings don't rank high on the popularity charts. They're usually random, and barring credible witnesses, they largely go unsolved. So when Father Robert O'Brien, a popular Washington priest with a high public profile, is murdered in a drive-by shooting, D.C. police aren't beating down doors to get the case. Homicide detectives Frank Kearney and JosĂŠ Phelps have been members of the force for twenty-five years, partners from the
start. They're smart cops - smart enough to know they've been played for patsies when the O'Brien murder lands in their laps. This is payback time for two cops who've been a little too brash, a little too independent. But what appears to be a motiveless drive-by in a city with one of the nation's highest homicide rates soon turns into a dirtier, far more complex case involving corrupt politicians, self-serving media, warring drug lords, millions of dollars in questionable cash - and more murder. As Frank and JosĂŠ dig deeper, fending off the police bureaucracy and meddling politicos, it becomes increasingly clear that this case might cost them more than their careers. It might cost them their lives.

Metro 2033 (Audiobook) English | 2011 | ISBN: 0575086254 | MP3 | 1,61 GB The year is 2033. The world has been reduced to rubble. Humanity is nearly extinct. The half-destroyed cities have become uninhabitable through radiation. Beyond their boundaries, they say, lie endless burned-out deserts and the remains of splintered forests. Survivors still remember the past greatness of humankind. But the last remains of civilisation have already become a distant memory, the stuff of myth and legend. More than 20 years have passed since the last plane took off from the earth. Rusted railways lead into emptiness. The ether is void and the airwaves echo to a soulless howling where previously the frequencies were full of news from Tokyo, New York, Buenos Aires. Man has handed over stewardship of the earth to new life-forms. Mutated by radiation, they are better adapted to the new world. Man's time is over. A few score thousand survivors live on, not knowing whether they are the only ones left on earth. They live in the Moscow Metro - the biggest air-raid shelter ever built. It is humanity's last refuge. Stations have become mini-statelets, their people uniting around ideas, religions, water-filters - or the simple need to repulse an enemy incursion. It is a world without a tomorrow, with no room for dreams, plans, hopes. Feelings have given way to instinct - the most important of which is survival. Survival at any price. VDNKh is the northernmost inhabited station on its line. It was one of the Metro's best stations and still remains secure. But now a new and terrible threat has appeared. Artyom, a young man living in VDNKh, is given the task of penetrating to the heart of the Metro, to the legendary Polis, to alert everyone to the awful danger and to get help. He holds the future of his native station in his hands, the whole Metro - and maybe the whole of humanity.

Yet as old allegiances are tested and fresh alliances forged, all are unaware of the appearance of a new breed of demon, more intelligent—and deadly—than any that have come before.

A young woman named Aomame follows a taxi driver’s enigmatic suggestion and begins to notice puzzling discrepancies in the world around her. She has entered, she realizes, a parallel existence, which she calls 1Q84 — “Q is for ‘question mark.’ A world that bears a question.” Meanwhile, an aspiring writer named Tengo takes on a suspect ghostwriting project. He becomes so wrapped up with the work and its unusual author that, soon, his previously placid life begins to come unraveled. As Aomame’s and Tengo’s narratives converge over the course of this single year, we learn of the profound and tangled connections that bind them ever closer: a beautiful, dyslexic teenage girl with a unique vision; a mysterious religious cult that instigated a shoot-out with the metropolitan police; a reclusive, wealthy dowager who runs a shelter for abused women; a hideously ugly private investigator; a mild-mannered yet ruthlessly efficient bodyguard; and a peculiarly insistent television-fee collector. A love story, a mystery, a fantasy, a novel of self-discovery, a dystopia to rival George Orwell’s — 1Q84 is Haruki Murakami’s most ambitious undertaking yet: an instant best seller in his native Japan, and a tremendous feat of imagination from one of our most revered contemporary writers.
Ender's Game Special 20th Anniversary (Audiobook) English | 2004 | ISBN: 1593974744 | ASIN: B00A30B27M | 6 hours and 30 minutes | MP3 | 399 MB Winner of the Hugo and Nebula Awards In order to develop a secure defense against a hostile alien race's next attack, government agencies breed child geniuses and train them as soldiers. A brilliant young boy, Andrew "Ender" Wiggin lives with his kind but distant parents, his sadistic brother Peter, and the person he loves more than anyone else, his sister Valentine. Peter and Valentine were candidates for the soldier-training program but didn't make the cut—young Ender is the Wiggin drafted to the orbiting Battle School for rigorous military training. Ender's skills make him a leader in school and respected in the Battle Room, where children play at mock battles in zero gravity. Yet growing up in an artificial community of young soldiers Ender suffers greatly from isolation, rivalry from his peers, pressure from the adult teachers, and an unsettling fear of the alien invaders. His psychological battles include loneliness, fear that he is becoming like the cruel brother he remembers, and fanning the flames of devotion to his beloved sister. Is Ender the general Earth needs? But Ender is not the only result of the genetic experiments. The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Ender's two older siblings are every bit as unusual as he is, but in very different ways. Between the three of them lie the abilities to remake a world. If, that is, the world survives. Ender's Game is the winner of the 1985 Nebula Award for Best Novel and the 1986 Hugo Award for Best Novel.

The Human Stain (Audiobook) English | 2000 | ISBN: 0618059466 | MP3 | 198 MB It is 1998, the year in which America is whipped into a frenzy of prurience by the impeachment of a president, and in a small New England town, an aging classics professor, Coleman Silk, is forced to retire when his colleagues decree that he is a racist. The charge is a lie, but the real truth about Silk would have astonished his most virulent accuser. Coleman Silk has kept a secret for fifty years: from his wife, his four children, his colleagues, and his friends, including the writer Nathan Zuckerman, who sets out to reconstruct the biography of this eminent, upright man, and to understand how his ingeniously contrived life came unraveled. Brilliantly narrated by actors Arliss Howard and Debra Winger, THE HUMAN STAIN concludes Philip Roth's eloquent trilogy of post-war American lives.

Hero at Large (Audiobook) English | 2010 | ISBN: 0062014609 | M4B | 241 MB Dear Reader: In a previous life, before the time of Plum, I wrote twelve short romance novels. Red-hot screwball comedies, each and every one of them. The romances were originally published between the years 1988 and 1992. All immediately went out of print and could be found only at used bookstores and yard sales. I'm happy to tell you that those stories have now been re-released by HarperCollins, presented in almost original form. I've done only minor editing to correct some embarrassing bloopers missed the first time around. Hero at Large was the very first book published. It's about a sexy guy who cooks a potholder in spaghetti sauce and charms a single mom and former world-class ice skater with the promise of a ride on his Zamboni. It's got broken bones, giant turkeys, cantankerous cars, and Aunt Edna. This was the book that changed my life forever and made me a published author. When Hero finally reached the bookstores, I was almost arrested for loitering in Walden's. I stationed myself in the romance section and wouldn't leave until I saw someone buy my book. The boldest and most wildly speculative writer of our time, Greg Egan has envisioned a quantum Brave New World -a masterful saga of a time when not only human life, but fleshly reality itself, will be nothing but a memory... It is the thirtieth century. The "world" has evolved into a vast network of probes, satellites, and servers knitting the solar system into one scape from the outer planets to the sun. Humanity, too, has reconfigured itself. Most people have chosen immortality, joining the polises to become conscious software. Others have opted for disposable, renewable robotic bodies that remain in contact with the physical world. A few holdouts stubbornly remain fleshers struggling to shape an antiquated existence in the muck and jungle of Earth. And then there is the Orphan, a genderless digital being grown from a mind seed. When an unforeseen disaster ravages the fleshers, it awakens the polises to the possibility of their own extinction from bizarre astrophysical processes that seemingly violate fundamental laws of nature. It is up to the Orphan and a group of refugees to find the knowledge that will save them all--a search that will lead them on a quantum adventure to a higher dimension beyond the macrocosmos....
Isle of Dogs (Andy Brazil) (Audiobook) English | 2001 | ISBN: 0399147659 | ASIN: B0002P0ERW | 13 hours and 40 minutes | MP3 | 547 MB From the #1 bestselling author of Hornet's Nest and Southern Cross, an irreverent portrait of politically driven law enforcement run amok. Patricia Cornwell's novels of big-city police have taken this classic genre to a new level. "Move over, Carl Hiaasen, you've got company," the San Francisco Examiner warned. "Patricia Cornwell has switched to Hiaasen's world of black humor and nearly conquers it." USA Today concurred: "Cornwell has coined a new penny." With Isle of Dogs, Cornwell outdoes herself with a wry tale of life and turmoil behind the blue wall. Chaos breaks loose when the governor of Virginia orders that speed traps be painted on all streets and highways, warning that speeders will be caught by monitoring aircraft flying overhead. But the eccentric Isle of Tangier, fourteen miles off the coast of Virginia in the Chesapeake Bay, responds by declaring war on its own state. Judy Hammer, newly installed as the superintendent of the Virginia State Police, and Andy Brazil, a state trooper and Hammer's right hand and confidant, find themselves at their wits' end as they try to protect the public from the politicians-and vice versa-in this pitch-perfect, darkly comic romp. With a Swiftian eye for the absurd and dead-accurate aim on her targets, Cornwell delivers another knowing story of the lives of the men and women in blue.

Hornet's Nest (Andy Brazil) (Audiobook) English | 1997 | ISBN: 0736659684 , 0399142827 | MP3 | 349 MB Deputy Chief Virginia West likes and respects her boss, Hammer, but with an increasing number of visiting businessmen being murdered in her city by a maniac with a penchant for painting his victims bright orange, she finds it hard to accept Hammer's edict that a rookie reporter should ride on patrol with her to better relations with their citizens. Her worst fears are confirmed when the reporter, Brazil, presses the button to activate the boot-release rather than the siren on their first outing. He's not the only blight on her life right now: her cat's angsty, her hormones are misbehaving, her opposite number in the uniformed division is behaving like a jackass, the radio despatcher is determined to trip her up, the D.A. is in the middle of a hot battle with the trial schedule. And orange coloured corpses keep turning up on her patch.
The Front (Audiobook) English | 2008 | ISBN: 0143142003 | ASIN: B0025ZAMZG | 4 hours and 35 minutes | MP3 | 156 MB In The Front, D.A. Lamont has a special job for Massachusetts state investigator Win Garano. As part of a new publicrelations campaign about the dangers of declining neighborhoods, she's sending him to Watertown to "come up with a drama", and she thinks she knows just the case that will serve.
Garano is very skeptical, because he knows that Watertown is also the home base for a loose association of municipal police departments called the Front, set up in order that they don't have to be so dependent on the state much to Lamont's anger. He senses a much deeper agenda here - but he has no idea just how deep it goes. In the days that follow, he'll find that Lamont's task, and the places it leads him, will resemble a house of mirrors everywhere he turns, he's not quite sure if what he's seeing is true. This is the master writing at the absolute top of her game. You will never guess what lies behind The Front.
Southern Cross (Audiobook) English | 1999 | ISBN: 0754053164 | MP3 | 497 MB Judy Hammer has accepted the challenge of Richmond, Virginia's police department to try and reverse the escalating crime statistics in the city. She brings with her Deputy Chief Virginia West and Andy Brazil, now a full-time police officer. They find a lot of things they are all too familiar with - teenage gangs, a rash of robberies at cash dispensers, street corner drug-dealing, racial tensions, too many people with too many guns and a cardiac inducing lack of parking spaces. They also meet resentment from the established police force and over-high expectations from the city's institutions. Then a computer virus crashes the police computer, freezing their screens with a design of blue fish, and the same blue fish appears on the statue of Jefferson Davis, which a graffiti artist has turned into a black basketball player and a gang called the Pikes claim it is their symbol, which also has links to the robberies. In an incredibly fast-moving police procedural Patricia Cornwell takes her readers on a roller-coaster ride of action and emotion.
At Risk (Audiobook)
English | 2006 | ISBN: 0143058738 | ASIN: B000FTCJLE | 4 hours and 21 minutes | MP3 | 237 MB For decades, Patricia Cornwell has demonstrated her extraordinary ability not only to entertain and enthrall but to surprise as well. Beginning in January 2006, The New York Times Magazine serialized a brand-new Cornwell thriller, a book filled with all the chilling suspense, rich characters, and trademark forensics that have made her an international phenomenon. But what she does with those ingredients is a revelation. A Massachusetts state investigator is called home from Knoxville, Tennessee, where he is completing a course at the National Forensic Academy. His boss, the district attorney, attractive but hard-charging, is planning to run for governor, and as a showcase she's planning to use a new crime initiative called At Risk; its motto: "Any crime, any time." In particular, she's been looking for a way to employ cutting-edge DNA technology, and she thinks she's found the perfect subject in an unsolved 20-year-old murder-in Tennessee. If her office solves the case, it ought to make them all look pretty good, right? Her investigator is not so sure, not sure about anything to do with this woman, really, but before he can open his mouth, a shocking piece of violence intervenes, an act that shakes up not only both their lives but the lives of everyone around them. It's not a random event. Is it personal? Is it professional? Whatever it is, the implications are very, very bad indeed...and they're about to get much worse. Sparks fly, traps spring, twists abound. This is the master working at the top of her game.
The Fallen Angel (Audiobook) English | 2012 | ISBN: 0062189271 | ASIN: B008M20UKS | 10 hours and 25 minutes | MP3 | 287 MB After narrowly surviving his last operation, Gabriel Allon, the wayward son of Israeli intelligence, has taken refuge behind the walls of the Vatican, where he is restoring one of Caravaggio's greatest masterpieces. But early one morning, he is summoned to St. Peter's Basilica by Monsignor Luigi Donati, the all-powerful private secretary to his Holiness Pope Paul VII. The body of a beautiful woman lies broken beneath Michelangelo's magnificent dome. The Vatican police suspect suicide, though Gabriel believes otherwise. So, it seems, does Donati. But the monsignor is fearful that a public inquiry might inflict another scandal on the Church, and so he calls upon Gabriel to quietly pursue the truth - with one caveat. "Rule number one at the Vatican," Donati said. "Don't ask too many questions." Gabriel learns that the dead woman had uncovered a dangerous secret - a secret that threatens a global criminal enterprise that is looting timeless treasures of antiquity and selling them to the highest bidder. But there is more to this network than just greed. A mysterious operative is plotting an act of sabotage that will plunge the world into a conflict of apocalyptic proportions....

Pawn of Prophecy (Audiobook) English | 2003 | ISBN: 1581167555 | ASIN: B000VZPW5W | 10 hours and 25 minutes | MP3 | 287 MB Long ago, so the Storyteller claimed, the evil god Torak sought dominion and drove men and gods to war. But Belgrath the Sorcerer led men to reclaim the Orb that protected the West. So long as it lay at Riva, the prophecy went, men would be safe. That was only a story, and Garion did not believe in magic dooms, even though the man without a shadow had haunted him for years. Brought up on a quiet farm by his Aunt Pol, how could he know that the Apostate planned to wake dread Torak, or that he would be led on a quest of unparalleled magic and danger by those he loved, but did not truly know. For yet a little while, his dreams of innocence remained safe, untroubled by knowledge of his strange heritage. For a little while... thus begins The Belgariad, an epic fantasy of immense scope set against a history of 7,000 years. It tells of the struggles between ancient gods and mighty Kings, and of men in strange lands facing fated events, all bound by a prophecy that must be fulfilled.
Port Mortuary (A Scarpetta Novel) (Audiobook) English | 2011 | ISBN: 1611760348 | ASIN: B004EDSS7G | 12 hours and 32 minutes | MP3 | 344 MB In this fast-paced story, a treacherous path from Kay Scarpetta's past merges with the high-tech highway she now finds herself on. We travel back to the beginning of her professional career, when she enlisted in the Air Force to pay off her medical school debt and found herself ensnared in a gruesome case of what seemed to be vicious, racially motivated hate crimes against two Americans in South Africa. Now, more than 20 years and many career successes later, her secret military ties have drawn her to Dover Air Force Base, where she has been immersed in a training fellowship to master the art of CT-assisted virtual autopsy - a procedure the White House has mandated that she introduce in the private sector. As the chief of the new Cambridge Forensic Center in Massachusetts, a joint venture of the state and federal governments and MIT, Scarpetta is confronted with a case that could shut down her new facility and ruin her personally and professionally. A young man drops dead, apparently from a cardiac arrhythmia, eerily close to Scarpetta's new Cambridge home. But when his body is examined the next morning, there are stunning indications that he may have been alive when he was zipped inside a pouch and locked insider the Center's cooler. Various 3-D radiology scans reveal more shocking details about internal injuries unlike any Scarpetta has ever seen. These suggest the possibility of a conspiracy to cause mass casualties. She realizes that she is fighting a cunning and cruel enemy that is invisible as she races against time to discover who and why before more people die. In Port Mortuary, Patricia Cornwell brings Scarpetta together with Marino, Benton, and Lucy in an intimate way that is reminiscent of the early novels, and we welcome a voice we haven't heard in years. The point of view is Scarpetta's this is her story.
Red Mist (A Scarpetta Novel) (Audiobook) English | 2011 | ISBN: 1611760364 | ASIN: B006IL6WAM | 12 hours and 56 minutes | MP3 | 395 MB The new Kay Scarpetta novel from the world's #1 bestselling crime writer. Determined to find out what happened to her former deputy chief, Jack Fielding, murdered six months earlier, Kay Scarpetta travels to the Georgia Prison for Women, where an inmate has information not only on Fielding, but also on a string of grisly killings. The murder of an Atlanta family years ago, a young woman on death row, and the inexplicable deaths of homeless people as far away as California seem unrelated. But Scarpetta discovers connections that compel her to conclude that what she thought ended with Fielding's death and an attempt on her own life is only the beginning of something far more destructive: a terrifying terrain of conspiracy and potential terrorism on an international scale. And she is the only one who can stop it.
The Scarpetta Factor (A Scarpetta Novel) (Audiobook) English | 2011 | ISBN: 1611760321 | ASIN: B002TNAC0E | 16 hours and 9 minutes | MP3 | 222 MB It is the week before Christmas. A tanking economy has prompted Dr. Kay Scarpetta - despite her busy schedule and her continuing work as the senior forensic analyst for CNN - to offer her services pro bono to New York City's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. In no time at all, her increased visibility seems to precipitate a string of unexpected and unsettling events. She is asked live on the air about the sensational case of Hannah Starr, who has vanished and is presumed dead. Moments later during the same telecast she receives a startling call-in from a former psychiatrist patient of Benton Wesley's. When she returns after the show to the apartment where she and Benton live, she finds an ominous package possibly a bomb - waiting for her at the front desk. Soon the apparent threat on Scarpetta's life finds her embroiled in a surreal plot that includes a famous actor accused of an unthinkable sex crime and the disappearance of a beautiful millionaires with whom Lucy seems to have shared a secret past. Scarpetta's CNN producer wants her to launch a TV show called The Scarpetta Factor. Given the bizarre events already in play, she fears that her growing fame will generate the illusion that she has a "special factor", a mythical ability to solve all her cases. She wonders if she will end up like other TV personalities: her own stereotype. The Scarpetta Factor, the 17th in the series, finds the familiar cast of characters together again in New York. Marino is working for the NYPD; Benton Wesley uses his forensic psychological expertise at Kirby and Bellevue; and Lucy continues to dazzle with her expertise in forensic computer investigations as she works yet another case with New York prosecutor Jaime Berger.

Book of the Dead (Audiobook) English | 2007 | ISBN: 0143059149 | ASIN: B000XSAY2S | 13 hours and 13 minutes | MP3 | 208 MB The "book of the dead" is the morgue log, a ledger in which all cases are entered by hand. For Kay Scarpetta, however, it is about to take on a new meaning. Fresh from her bruising battle with a psychopath in Florida, Scarpetta decides it's time for a change of pace. Moving to Charleston, South Carolina, she opens a unique private forensic pathology practice, one in which she and her colleagues, including Pete Marino and her niece, Lucy, offer expert crime-scene investigation and autopsy services to communities lacking local access to competent death investigation and modern technology. It seems like an ideal situation, until the new battles start: with local politicians, with entrenched interests, with someone whose covert attempts at sabotage are clearly meant to run her out of town. And that's before the murders and other violent deaths even begin. A 16-year-old tennis star, fresh from a tourament win in Charleston, is found nude and mutilated near Piazza Navona in Rome. The body of an abused young boy is discovered dumped in a desolate marsh. A woman is found ritualistically murdered in her multimillion-dollar beach home. Meanwhile, in distant New England, problems with a prominent patient at a Harvard-affiliated psychiatric hospital begin to hint at interconnections that are as hard to imagine as they are horrible. Scarpetta has dealt with many brutal and unusual crimes before, but never any as baffling, or as terrifying, as the ones confronting her now. Before she is through, that book of the dead will contain many names - and the pen may be poised to write in her own.

Somebody, it would seem, is seeking vengeance, and Longmire might be the only thing standing between the three remaining boys and a Sharps .45-70 rifle. With lifelong friend Henry Standing Bear, Deputy Victoria Moretti, and a cast of characters both tragic and humorous enough to fill in the vast emptiness of the high plains, Walt Longmire attempts to see that revenge, a dish best served cold, is never served at all.
Blow Fly (Scarpetta Novel 12) (Audiobook) English | 2004 | ISBN: 0143057448 | ASIN: B000782EVI | 12 hours and 43 minutes | MP3 | 342 MB In Blow Fly, Kay Scarpetta stands at the threshold of a new life after her work as Virginia's Chief Medical Examiner has come to a jarring end. At the close of The Last Precinct, she knew she would have to leave Richmond if she were to find any peace. She feared that she was about to be fired by the governor. More alarming, she was hounded in the media and in the courtroom, for what some claimed was her involvement in the murder of a deputy police chief. So Scarpetta packed up her belongings and set out for the warmth and solace of the Florida sun. She is settling into a new life as a private forensic consultant and is deep into a case that has left colleagues in Louisiana profoundly disturbed. A woman is found dead in a seedy hotel, dressed to go out, keys in her hand. Her history of blackouts, and her violent outbursts while under their spell, offer more questions than clues about the cause of her death. Then Scarpetta receives news that chills her to the core: Jean-Baptiste Chandonne - the vicious and unrepentant Wolfman, who pursued her to her very doorstep - asks to see her. From his cell on death row, he demands an audience with the legendary Dr. Scarpetta. Only to her will he tell the secrets he knows the authorities desire: the evidence that will bring a global investigation to a swift conclusion. Scarpetta, her niece Lucy, and her colleague Detective Pete Marino are left to wonder: After all the death and destruction, what sort of endgame could this violent psychopath have in mind? And could this request be somehow related to the Louisiana case? Her friends and family by her side, Scarpetta must unravel a twisting conspiracy with an international reach and confront theshock of her life - a blow that will force her to question the loyalty and trust of all she holds dear.

Quick & Healthy: Recipes for Vibrant Living 2003 | ISBN-10: 1930603088 | Pages: 192 | PDF | 6 MB Good nutrition is the cornerstone of optimal health--feeling good and looking good. In this title, Dr. Whitaker has put together a time-tested cuisine that will promote the wellness and energy you need to enjoy life. Unlike extreme regimes that call for restrictions of a certain food group (fat in some cases, carbohydrates in others), the recommended recipes in this book are pretty normal. There are no specific items you have to eat in abundance, nor is anything completely off-limits forever. An occasional indulgence is good for the soul! As the reader has access to his own personal favorites among a variety of fresh, tasty, nutritious foods, it is easy to make this cookbook a mainstay.
In fact, Dr. Whitaker does not like to call his nutrition program a diet. The word smacks of deprivation and misery. Let's think of it instead as a lifelong nutrition program of fresh, wholesome, mostly unprocessed foods that contribute to health and vitality, and leave you feeling satisfied at the end of each meal.
War and Empire: The American Way of Life English | 2010 | ISBN: 0745327656, 0745327648 | 272 pages | PDF | 3 MB In this provocative study, Paul Atwood attempts to show Americans that their history is one of constant wars of aggression and imperial expansion. In his long teaching career, Atwood has found that most students know virtually nothing about America's involvement in the wars of the 20th century, let alone those prior to World War I. War and Empire aims to correct this, clearly and persuasively explaining US actions in every major war since the declaration of independence. The book shows that, far from being dragged reluctantly into foreign entanglements, America's leaders have always picked their battles in order to increase its influence and power, with little regard for those killed in the process. This book is an eye-opening introduction to the American way of life for undergraduate students of American history, politics and international relations.
