Street Gang: The Complete History of Sesame Street Truth be told, Davis spends surprisingly little time considering the show in its later years. We know the changes it went through had something to do with Franklin Getchell. Something to do with the rise of Elmo. Something to do with the Tickle Me Elmo craze... actually a LOT to do with that. I was pleased as punch to read about the rise and fall of that brief attempt to expand the neighborhood with elements like a hotel and other places around the corner from "the street". However, I was utterly unprepared for the revelation that Abby Cadabby, the Ally McBeal of the Sesame Street universe, was the direct brainchild of Joan Ganz Cooney herself. That hurt. Now we have a show that is profitable, that can compete with Nick Toons, the Disney Channel, and other major competitors, but that somehow lost its way in the process. It met Barney head-on and then proceeded to emulate that horrid purple dinosaur. Not the happy ending one might have hoped for.
Stuck With You Paige Hart is a Southerner after my own heart! She is a lawyer in Macon, Georgia with a large family who love her a lot, but they make all kinds of crazy demands on her. So she's always in a fix, because she always helps them out. Even though she studied tax law, her family doesn't care, they ask her to help them with everything from divorce to shoplifting. Ross Bennett is a decent guy, too. He doesn't have a big family, but he does a lot of charity work in the community, and he's a very good attorney who never takes sleazebags for clients.
Ten Tiny Breaths This is one of those books that was just so great, I don't even know what to write about! I loved ALL of the characters. Which is rare, usually there is at least one, that just doesn't do it for me. Kacey and Livie stole my heart from the beginning. I felt so many emotions in the course of reading this book. My tear ducts really got a work out. I experienced love, sadness, hate, anger and even shame. I love a book that can make me feel as if I am floating one minute to pull the rug out from underneath me the next. Can't what comes next!!!!

The Bubble Gum Thief The best thing I liked about this book were the characters. First of all, there was just the right amount. Not too many (in a 455 page book) to overwhelm the reader, but enough to make it interesting. The main characters were well drawn out and easy to like and it was riveting to follow them around the country like a treasure hunt as they chased the antagonist. Characters make the book and it's important to make them realistic, behave realistically and likeable and Jeff Miller has done a fine job in this one.
The Chessmen Roddy Mackenzie, an old friend of Fin's, has been presumed dead since his plane went missing 17 years ago but his body was never recovered. Until now...and with the discovery, old memories are dragged up, old friendships and enmities re-evaluated and old crimes lead to new ones. From the start, the landscape and weather of Lewis play a vital role in a story that feels as if it couldn't be set anywhere else. The story then cuts from past to present as Fin remembers his school and student days when he worked as a roadie for Roddy's band. Despite the different timelines and the fact that the book changes from first to third person and back, the story never loses momentum on its way to a climax that is as shocking as it is unexpected.
The Collected: A Jonathan Quinn Novel I am a huge fan of the Jonathan Quinn series - I have read every single one and was waiting for this latest Quinn book to come out - but I think this might be the best of all. I downloaded it and read it all today, couldn't put it down. I can never guess what will happen next, and just when I think I can predict what a character will do, Battles reveals another side of their personality, and I'm pulled even deeper into the story and their world. I love the humor and wit that runs throughout the dialogue, and the subtle suggestions of backstory that gives the action more impact. Having to patiently wait for the next book in the series will be tough!
Atlantean's Quest 5: The Dark King Hades, The Dark King is both feared and rejected due to his mixed Atlantean/Phantom heritage. As King of the Phantoms, he rules his land via blood and claw. Hades doesn’t have time to watch over a human female, even one as enticing as Taylor, but a debt is a debt. If keeping an eye on the woman for a week will clear the slates, then he’ll do it.
The First Touch Autumn has been troubled by voices and visions for years, though she would never admit that to anyone. She desperately tries to appear normal, to hide herself from the world, and most importantly from a padded room. The Gladiator I have read all of Scarrow's Roman Legion series. I have enjoyed each one very much. The books blend history with fiction with interesting story lines. His development of the two main characters, Macro and Cato, is excellent. If you are interested in reading about the Legions of Rome during the first century A.D., I highly recommend this series.
The Hollow City The story follows Michael Shipman, a man with a history of mental health issues who was found huddling under a bridge. His delusions have progressed past what is manageable and his psychiatrist has not choice but to upgrade his condition from anxiety to schizophrenia and put him in the care of the local mental hospital. To top it all off, there is a serial killer on the loose and all the victims are connected to Michael in some way, shape or form. Not a good day for Michael. The problem for Michael is that while many of the monsters he sees are just a symptom of his condition, some of the monsters he sees are real, and they have a plan.
The Ice Cage: A Scandinavian Crime Thriller set in the Nordic Winter This is an original take on the scandi thriller, giving an emotional as well as a thriller story. Rather than featuring the typical tight lipped Nordic policemen, this is about someone who gets caught up in a dangerous life or death situation, while trying to investigate his father's past. It's about a young British man who goes home for his father's funeral and then realises he was mixed up in a whole lot of trouble. It about family expectations as well as giving you a crime
story, eerily echoing some of what went on in Norway recently. It also has some of the most fantastic and atmospheric descriptions of the Nordic countryside I've ever read. If you like ice and snow and mountains... Plus a lot of sly humour. More subtle than a typical standard thriller and so more rewarding. I'd read more of this guy's stuff.
The Juror The Juror is a story of a mafia kingpin's trial and the hell it causes for a single mother named Annie Laird. She lives at home with her son, sculpts all night and works as a clerk all day. One day she is selected as a prospective juror for the most famous case in the land. She wants some excitement in her life, so she agrees. Soon her life is twisted upside down by a seductive, powerful man known as the Teacher. She must vote to acquit the mob boss if she wants her friends and son to live. The story doesn't end with the trial. The Teacher still wants her after it is over, and when she betrays him, he wants blood. The reason this book is so good is because of its characters. You can feel the characters resonating off the page. The Teacher with his reserved fury, Annie and her fear and determination.
The Legion The Gladiator, of the title role of the previous book, Ajax continues to be a thorn in the side of Macro and Cato, and outwits them on a number of occasions. It is these events that help shape and drive our heros' hatred of the gladiator, and their regrets, desire for revenge and mistakes they make in chasing him bring a real human quality to the book. Personally I loved this book, it is one of the standout books in the series and is one of those books that makes you want to read a few more pages whenever you start to think about putting it down. Highly recommended for fans of Simon, the Historical Fiction Genre and lovers of a cracking good yarn. If you haven't come across Simon yet, I would suggest reading the Gladiator before this one, although its not essential, it will add depth to the storyline and explain the hatred that drives both sides in The Legion.

The Night Before Christmas I liked Lydia quite bit. She was a bombshell but doesn't know it. She was thrown for many a loop but handled it well for the most part. In fact all of the characters were quite likable. There was no one person who was "evil." Besides Lydia and Will, Tilly, Jake, and Gracie were my favorite characters. Tilly and Jake are kids. They provide some serious comic relief. There's also an incident with a gigantic turkey that had me trying to smother my laughter so no one else could hear me.
The Quiet Girl Complex and sometimes mystifying, The Quiet Girl builds its non-linear "story" through impressionistic scenes, presented seemingly at random from the past, present, future, and even the imagination. It is up to the reader to create a narrative from scenes-out-of-sequence as the thinly drawn characters overlap and additional information is revealed, an often frustrating effort.
The Seal King Murders It's 1861. Inspector Faro is heading back to Orkney to enjoy some home comforts. However, his rest is disrupted when Dave Claydon, a champion swimmer, drowns in mysterious circumstances.
The Twelve Clues of Christmas Georgie is a wonderful character, very relatable. This book focuses less on her royal connections and more on her attempt to live her life in the way she wants. Most of the main characters from the series are present, and it is an engaging, escapist read. Highly recommended.

Written in Stone It's impossible to overstate the uniqueness of Ellery Adams' Books by the Bay Mystery series. From the first book each story contained two mysteries: the murder mystery and the mystery of Olivia Limoges and her family history. This third book in the series contains some shocking revelations about Olivia's sad past that completely stunned me. If it weren't for the except from book #4 I would fear this was the end of the series, as it seems as though Olivia is finally at peace, madly in love, and ready to move forward with her life. She is a complex, one of a kind character who stays with you long after you've finished reading her story.

Sleeping with the Fishes (Fred the Mermaid, Book 1) Fred has not one but two love interests pop into her life suddenly. First theirs the hunky fellow marine biologist who travels the world and is rich from writing romance novels. Then there's Prince Artur of the Black Sea who just seems to know Fred will be his queen. Oddly the two big lugs like each other so much I could see them all being one big happy disfunctional supernatural familly.
Pegasus and the Origins of Olympus I have a soft spot for Emily and Pegasus, and when I heard that this book was due for release, I immediately preordered it! This is a fantastic adventure, filled with danger and amazing twists and surprises. In this story, we are taken on an amazing journey through time and space. We get to meet the Titans as they battle with the Olympians in ancient Greece. The action is intense, and we meet a lot of new characters including Stella and Vulcan. Emily makes a shocking discovery in this story that changes her life once again. I found myself getting rather emotional in places, as there are some very sad scenes, but there is also a few witty scenes that had me smiling. I struggled to put this book down, and was disgruntled when I had to! I love the imagery created by Kate O'Hearn, as it felt like I was actually there.
Rising Sun In 1989, Steven Stirling released his seminal novel, Marching Through Georgia. The first in his Draka series of alternate history novels. While he had written earlier short stories and novels, this book was his first notable success. In it, he describes a world history where in World War 2, the Japanese manage to sink the American carriers at Pearl, and then rampage across the Pacific, capturing Hawaii, invading Australia and landing soldiers in Panama. Yamamoto is finally stopped in the Sea of Cortez in the equivalent of Midway in our timeline. This was just outlined in an appendix of that book, in a few paragraphs. It has been a bit of a wait, but Conroy's current novel is the closest a Stirling fan will get to seeing how that front would have played out.

Muslim extremists have stolen a nuclear device and need the stone to give them the power to vaporize any city in the west. A megalomaniacal industrialist leads a group seeking to carry out the utter annihilation of Islam itself. And caught between the two militant factions is Juan Cabrillo and his crew, who must do whatever they can to stop the impending doom...
Scattered Graves This is another bang up action mystery from Beverly Connor. She has just about coronered the market on forensic mysteries. Her novels are well paced and her research is well done. The characters are lifelike and easy to dislike the villians. I am always assured of a good nights entertainment with Ms. Connor.

Scorched: The Dark Forgotten I really enjoyed the character of Mac. He is a fun, down to earth, and definitely not without appeal on the heroic front. The heroine, Constance, is believable, innocent but not without self awareness and strength. These two characters do as those of a good book should grow and evolve as they complete their adventures, but in the end you can still see them together. I was struck again by Ashwood's ability to create an excellent, smooth and sustainable plot. A great book to loose yourself in by the fireside!
Shake, Rattle and Haunt What do you do when a spirit that has a fondness for groping your girlie bits takes up residence in your home? Call your local Ghost Hunter, of course. After Gertie Sugarbaker gets over the fact that she had a drunken one-night stand with Sam Valentine, owner of Urban Ghost Hunters, they get down to business and try to cross the amorous entity into the light. Not an easy thing to do when the "ghost" is actually a third level demon, intent on dragging Gertie back to hell with him and making her his demon princess. To complicate matters even more, her deceased Grandmother pops in for a quick visit to tell her she’d been a demon hunter for the last fifty years of her life and now the mantle’s been passed to Gertie. Could her day get any worse?
Shiver This is a great fast paced adventure story with a little romance. Ms. Robards' characters "Marco (Danny)" and Sam were well written. I'll not go into the story line other reviewers have done an excellent job doing so other than to say it was about mobs, government agents, and a mother trying to earn a living for her and her son. Ms. Robards makes you feel the deperation Sam has to protect her son, Tyler. She is a strong character fighting to the very last. Hero, Marco-Trey-Danny, is a hero to the very end. Ms. Robards makes you feel the tension, fear, and pain. H/h had great chemistry and both were smart.
Sins of the Night In this latest installment of the Dark-Hunter story we are not only treated to the "Beginning" but we are given a little bit more information regarding the legend of the Dark Hunters and we are introduced two amazing characters that will truly touch the reader. This is the first Dark Hunter story that made me cry!!! Alexion has come to Mississippi to judge those Dark Hunters that are entertaining the idea of a revolt against Ash. Alexion has been sent to Danger, a Dark Huntress who still manages to retain a love of "life" despite the downside of being immortal. She makes Alexion feel "alive" for the first time ever. This man is different from any other man she's ever known. Who is he and what is he? Will she be able to help him at the same time protect her damaged heart from being broken yet again? This like every other DH read is very engaging. Ms. Kenyon though this time around has created characters that will truly touch the reader. You will feel their pain, happiness, and love. She has given us a little more insight into Ash, and still manage to leave an air of mystery. This is one series that I highly recommend. Each book is amazing and this is a fine addition to anyone's personal library!

So what did she do ,she threw away an education and married this man after all she was in love, fast forward he leaves her with three children one that is sick and a load of debt on her family property. She is forced to work in a time when most women did not. She was left with a clock bought by her scoundrel of a husband that she is hoping will save her the loss of her family home and business. Now this clock bought by Harlan Wallace is not just any clock but you will have to read to find out more. We also meet Lanier Stillis he is a man on a mission, he is leaving his home town because he is being accused of something he did not do. The two cross paths and make this story fun.

Pegasus and the Fight for Olympus This is the second book in the series. I absolutely LOVED it! Sometimes a second book is not as good as the first one, but this one is as good, if not better! This book is as fast paced as the first one, and the action is more intense!

Pegasus and the Flame This is a fantastic book! From the first page, I was swept into the action. Olympus has been invaded by a virtually indestructible foe. Pegasus has been given a mission to find Vesta's Flame, but things go awry when Paelen accidentally causes Pegasus to get struck by lightning. Emily finds Pegasus on her roof, tangled in rose bushes. Trying to heal a sick Pegasus (he doesn't like being called a horse!), Emily enlists the help of Joel DeSilva. What happens next is a wild ride full of danger and adventure.
Pegasus and the New Olympians This is the third book in a fantastic series! Emily hears about a 'wonder horse' that looks exactly like Pegasus without wings, and decides to investigate. When she gets back to Earth and finds out that the CRU have been creating Olympian clones, Emily is horrified. She knows that Jupiter will not allow Earth to survive if he ever found out. To cap it all, Emily finds out that she is getting more powers!
Dwarf: A Memoir I am not normally a reader of non-fiction but was intrigued by the author's blurb. The book is well written and flows beautifully. Tiffanie is a courageous person who had extremely painful body altering long term surgery to be able to do what she considered necessary to live a full life. With both tough love and compassion her parents stood by her side and supported her. From her birth to her dream marriage Tiffanie was determined to live a life where she did not have to scoot down stairs on her backside and be able to brush her hair. The book covers her schooling, friendships, college and professional life. I was overwhelmed by the work she did ensuring that our military was supplied with care packages.
Elantris "Elantris" is the debut novel from Brandon Sanderson. Blurbs on the cover from Orson Scott Card and David Farland say this book is "the finest novel of fantasy to be written in many years" and "one of the finest debuts I've seen in years." When I read a novel I generally do not pay attention to when it was written and I know that I haven't read all of the debut fantasy novels which have come out in the past several years. I do know when I've read a very good book, however, and "Elantris" is certainly that.
Esperanza (The Hungry Ghosts) I find that often books that claim to be scary or something really new, simply aren't. ESPERANZA is, for me, completely original. This is a ghost story but not your normal fare of ghosts. Here you find brujos or witches though these are unlike any you have seen before. If the story simply involved them with no other twists it would still be an interesting book but what makes it all work is the characterizations. You meet Tess and Ian and you think you know what is going to happen with them and what they are all about but even early on you realize that there is something different about them. That difference will surprise the reader and make this tale of mystery, love and hope a truly wonderful adventure. Perhaps you will even take sides and not necessarily on Tess or Ian's. This is a tale interwoven in time past, present and future. That future is not necessarily set in stone either.

Exhale This was beautifully written story. The entire story is very well written an it makes you feel differently for all the main charactors. I felt very emotional for Katie,Derreck an Kyle. I want to thank Jennifer Snyder for the floating lantern part. I was so touched by this moment that I have purchased several of these an plan to do my own gathering.
Fatal Frost James Henry has captured the Frost books perfectly. From the humour of Frost's dealings with Mullet to his "reminder" scraps of paper, Henry has caught R. D. Wingfields style of writing. He keeps Frost on the go balancing many cases without losing the thread of the story. It was disappointing when there were so few Frost books. Going back into Frost's past and leading up to the Wingfield stories has proven an excellent method of giving the reader more. I hope James Henry continues with the Frost stories. They are a well worth the read.
Generation Dead What a terrific way to continue the legacy John and Charlie. I loved how he wrote from the POV of Aaron. It is a bit eerie how much this character is like his father in thought and in action. The mentions of the Zombie Wars and my curiosity of what happened to Sarah, Rebecca, Tommy and Duncan grew as they were mentioned but not seen in the novel.
Heaven Should Fall
There are several secondary characters that figure prominently in Heaven Should Fall's storyline. Cade's brother Elias's transition from soldier to civilian is difficult as he deals with both the physical and mental wounds from war. Suffering from PTSD, he self-medicates with alcohol and he struggles with depression. His attempts to receive care from the VA are practically useless and he falls deeper and deeper into despair. Cade's mother Leela is quite stoic and in hindsight, she clearly sees where mistakes were made with her children. His sister Candy is a fundamentalist Christian who regularly preaches religious rhetoric. Her much older husband Dodge is anti-government and pro militia. They actively indoctrinate their offspring with their beliefs and the scenes between them and their children are downright chilling.
A Trail of Fire Diana Gabaldon gives us another peek into the world of Lord John Grey, and of Roger McKenzie's parents, in this four-story book. It whets one's appetite for the eighth book in the Outlander series, providing an interesting backstory (with a twist) on Jerry and Dolly McKenzie. Another 'must read' by Ms. Gabaldon!

She's all in when it comes to stopping this man from robbing Casa de Esperanza's casino. What seemed to be a simple case of good guy versus bad guy turns complicated when Carrie gets the opportunity to see things from the rebel's point-of-view
Angel of Darkness This third in the Dead Detective series kept me turning the pages. The whole idea of a ghost detective is captivating. The story takes place at a mental-health facility housed in an old building, and Katy Munger (pseudonym Chaz McGee as author of the first two Dead Detective books) makes you care about the characters. When all is said and done, that's a major acheivement. A writer who can make you care what happens to his or her characters is a joy to read, and Munger is a terrific writer!
Archangel's Consort This is a great story, the plot twists are flawless and keep you guessing. I'm waiting to see what happens with the Cadre Caliane and please, please get rid of Lijuan! (Personal opinion there). Singh is pulling the threads together for a extensive series and I hope that stories for the other members of Raphael's Seven are coming up! I was actually left with more questions than answers and my only negative comment is, I do feel that Elena needs to tone down the independant woman thing a bit. She's a new made angel - she does need help and until she's back to fighting form as a Guild Hunter and learns how to handle a vertical take off, she should accept it graciously and move on. The characters are great and the writing makes you curious about their stories Illium's mother's status is only hinted at I want to know what happened to Aohan and all the other members of the seven. Great read, you should read these in order though or you won't know what's happening - definitely 5 stars!

A Latent Dark The second half changed that and I think the author began to get his groove going. There was still a lot of switching characters in the 2nd half of the book but it began to come together. I did find the whole concept and many scenes intriguing. I don't like to elaborate about the contents of a book so others can read and interpret it for themselves. Overall, I would recommend this book though.
A Little Bit Wicked Another great book by Robyn Deheat. I'm addicted to Robyn's fast-paced, fun historical reads. Her books are sexy and un-put-down-able!
A Walk to Remember What a valuable lesson this novel serves to teach. Those who may be different from us, status or otherwise, can be the most wonderful people to know. Jamie Sullivan is a character that is pure in heart and would be such a joy to spend a day with. There should be more people like her, and like Landon, a boy who took a chance on her and found a love unlike anything he'd ever known. I applaud Nicholas Sparks for writing this bittersweet and uplifting story. The time and tears spent on this novel was well worth it.
