A Deceit To Die For This book was such an adventure, and I had a terrible time putting it down. Sadly I was disappointed at the end because I wanted to know when the next one was coming out. I appreciated the depth and breadth of the characters. I could relate to the many character types and appreciated that all the bad guys were not from one culture, nor all the good. This was as much as a thrill ride as The DaVinci Code.
A Note of Madness Flynn is the kind of character that you just want to reach through the pages and comfort, and as family and friends try their best to reach out and help him, I could feel their hopelessness and concern. As Flynn's mental health fluctuates, so does the pacing - as a reader I felt like I was right inside his head, experiencing his highs and lows, emotions and experiences.
Black Mountain Another outstanding read! This book was fantastic, in fact I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting. If you are a Alex Hunter fan you will love this book. It is fast paced and exciting. The research Greig did for this book made the plot
and characters believable. If you have never read any of Greig's other books do yourselves a favour, read them all from the beginning. Can't wait for the next book.
Buried on Avenue B Darlene has reason to be skeptical at first, but deciding to take a quick look, she soon realizes it could be the real thing. Even with minimal evidence, O'Hara's lieutenant allows her to investigate, since closing this seemingly openand-shut case will raise the generally nonviolent precinct's homicide closure rate to 92 percent. But when police unearth the grave, they don't find the remains they expect. Instead they uncover those of a Caucasian male child, about the age of nine, and they discover an peculiar array of items buried around him... and it appears that he had been buried with a degree of esteem and reverence. The forensic analysis presents more clues, however what is uncovered is more perplexing than enlightening. Where this leaves Detective O'Hara gets quite fascinating, and a convoluted set of twists and turns that take her far from her stomping grounds on Avenue B.
Church of the Dog "Church of the Dog" is a work of fiction, but it is about people who are real. People you have met if you have ever lived in the rural west. Mara is the extremely creative and energetic single woman any single woman would like to emulate. She has dreams that help her and her friends navigate through life. Edith is the exuberant grandmother who has not let life's tragedies embitter her. In her advancing years, she is still singing the song, "It Is New Every Morning." Her practical, taciturn rancher-husband has not cramped her style one bit, but it is too bad her love of life did not rub off on Earl a little bit more. He might have wanted to stick around a little longer. The somewhat-troubled grandson evades true involvement in life by hiding behind his camera lens. The pictures he takes capture events and scenes - recording them more clearly than memory.

Eleven Pipers Piping: A Father Christmas Mystery This was a thoroughly enjoyable mystery. It was written to keep you guessing as to who did it, I kept getting it wrong until the last part of the story. I loved the characters especially Vicar Tom Christmas, his housekeeper Madrun and his daughter Miranda. The storyline was well written and well developed book.I recommend this book to all who love the cozy mystery genre.
Every Day is an Atheist Holiday!: More Magical Tales from the Author of God, No! Some of my favorites: A reflection on Father's Day, in which he laments that he "will never experience sending and receiving a Father's Day card on the same day." He speaks lovingly of his parents, causing me to pause and be thankful for my own, as well as to reflect on my role as a father. For Groundhog Day, he compares Bill Murray's experience in the movie Groundhog Day, in which he lives the day over and over, to the life of a performer, doing the same routine over and over, relishing in the fact that he gets to say and do something over and over, and for the audience they see and hear it for the first time.
Moonshifted The world building is more in-depth in this installment. Ms. Alexander definitely widened the world, it's not just limited to the patients in Y4 but even beyond the hospital walls. Edie is more involved with the faction of vampires' and the wolves' hierarchies during the overturn of leaders. Along with the caring for a patient who happens to be the Alpha of his pack she also promised to be responsible and be a part of a vampire coronation ceremony. Both factions are involved in a power struggle that is of course brewing into war. Edie just finds herself in the midst of all the chaos. I'm telling you, they all seem to flock to her for help. While she does well with this type of chaos, I can't say the same for her love life.
Nano After a tumultuous year in which her mentor is murdered and her estranged father comes back into her life, Pia Grazdani, the embattled medical student from Death Benefit, decides to take a year off from her medical studies and escape New York City. Intrigued by the promise of the burgeoning field of medical technology and the chance to clear her head, Pia takes a job at Nano, LLC, a lavishly funded, security-conscious nanotechnology insititute in the picturesque foothills of the Rockies. Nano, LLC is ahead of the curve in the competitive world of molecular manufacturing, including the construction of microbivores, tiny nano-robots with the ability to gobble up viruses and bacteria.
Orders from Berlin Albert Morrison, ex-chief of MI6, is pushed over the banister outside his London apartment. He falls to his death at the feet of his daughter, Ava, but it is too dark for her to see the attacker before he escapes. Two Scotland Yard detectives attend the crime scene: Inspector Quaid and his junior assistant, Detective Trave. Quaid is convinced that this is a simple open-and-shut case involving a family dispute. But Trave is not so sure. Following a mysterious note in the dead man’s pocket, Trave discovers that Morrison was visited by Alec Thorn, deputy head of MI6, on the day of his death. Could Thorn who is clearly carrying a flame for Morrison's daughter be involved in a plot to betray his country that Morrison tried to halt, and if so, can Trave stop it in time in this gripping and intelligent thriller?

Polterheist: An Esther Diamond Novel Santa is running very late while a crowd becomes edgy. Dreidel entertains them while Candy Cane the elf looks for him. Finally Esther's friend Big Satsy arrives screaming in terror with his Santa suit on fire. A little boy Jonathan also starts screaming claiming a Santa with fangs tried to eat him. At the same, the Fenster family fights over control of the retail giant and thieves hijack shipments. When a tree attacks Dreidel, her on and off boyfriend NYPD Detective Connor Lopez claims mechanical failure, but Esther knows otherwise. With Max the three century and a half old sorcerer at her side, they investigate supernatural happenings unaware that a malevolence is deploying a wicked scheme to make for a deadly Christmas.
Rapture Sam's entire world revolves around Hikari, his mentor and father-figure and his daughter Aimi. Sam is mainly confined to their house and only steps outside in the dark, or when he is wearing a cap or a hood to cover his horns. Sam has been trained as a warrior right from a very young age and is extremely proficient in using various weapons as well as hand-to-hand combat aided by his inhuman strength and speed. He is portrayed as fumbling his way through almost everything else. He has difficulty expressing himself and is positively disastrous in his interactions with others his age. Sam is in love with Aimi, and she is the only person with whom he interacts somewhat freely. This love story develops throughout the book, and I suspect it will have much larger role to play in later ones.
She Can Tell The story begins 25 years ago as the "Watcher" who likes to see the secret, private things that people did when they think they are alone is watching Harry in his dilapidated ranch. It is cold and Harry had to die according to the Watcher. He felt betrayed by Harry. He goes in and Harry wakes up so the Watcher is forced to stab Harry. He removes the body and sets the old house on fire.
Test of Metal: A Planeswalker Novel Stover is a fantastic author, and he comes through again here. The writing is detailed, engaging, and I didn't want to put the book down. It was my first Planeswalker novel and my first experience with Stover in a non-Star Wars novel context, so I didn't know what to expect. It was really well, written, however, and I ended up really liking it. The point of view changes are well done, and the differences is personality between the different characters really come out. I'm currently reading the novel that serves as a prequel to this one, but Stover wrote so well that I was not even aware that I needed backstory to read Test of Metal. Definitely one of the better novels in the MTG canon.

The Bloodgate Guardian One of the things I enjoyed most about this book, besides the romance, was the wonderful detailed way Joely described the Mayan history and artifacts. Perhaps that's the dormant archeologist in me waking up but I was highly fascinated by each small piece of information or tidbit of background info about that topic. I have to admit that Mayan history wasn't something I was interested in before, I was always an Egypt kind of girl and I have a million of books to prove that, but Joely drew my attention and yes I already watched a few documentations about the Maya's after finishing this book. Reading the Bloodgate Guardian felt like watching Indiana Jones- thrilling and fascinating and even better with a spicy romance.
The Case of the Missing Books Okay, so it's not your classic mystery novel. More of a humorous romp with a mystery as the excuse to write the book. If you're looking for P.D. James or Agatha Christi, this isn't it. But Sansom has a wacky sense of humour that makes this a fun read, with a few laugh-out-loud bits as well. I picked this book up partly because I like novels set in Ireland. However, the Irish angle has only a bit part in this novel rural Yorkshire or west Texas probably would have worked just as well. The point is to drop a Londoner down in the middle of a 'foreign' culture and see what kind of crazy trouble he can get into without really trying. You probably won't like the protagonist, given is almost willful refusal to acknowledge that things are going to be different from London. Personally, I found Ted the cab driver to be the most engaging character. But the book works. A fun, quick read with lots of laughs and, yes, a genuine mystery to drive the plot along.
The Coroner I have often read about coroners, but never really understood their role, responsibilities and the extent of their authority. How nice to finally find an author who not only focuses on that role, as pertains to the UK, but makes it really interesting. I was particularly struck by the protagonist's observation that "After just four days as coroner she was already the earthly representative of fifty traumatically departed souls." The scenes at the inquest were as well done as any trial scene I've read.
The Duchess War Miss Minerva Lane lives her life quietly and recedes to the shadows, keeping the attention away from her. When she was a child being the center of attention ended very badly for her and it has scarred her for life, physically and emotionally. Now the Duke of Clermont catches her hiding from a would be suitor and Robert is instantly intrigued by this woman who is quiet yet leaves a mark with her clever remarks. As Minnie starts to piece together Robert's involvement in a possible workers movement she finds new layers of him and in turn, he starts to peel back the shell that Minnie has so carefully constructed around herself. But when Robert's brother suddenly becomes accountable for all of Robert's actions, how can Robert help him while protecting Minnie and not revealing all her secrets?
The Enemy of My Enemy This was even better than Brainrush 1. This is one of the most visual and engrossing books i have ever read. Just when i would finish a chapter and breathe a sigh of relief that a tense situation was about to be resolved, this author took me to the next chapter to begin another round of intense situations with other characters! I was able to immerse myself in every single scene as if I were actually there! i swam with the characters, I laughed and cried with them and I even "helped" them dodge bullets!

The Fade The Fade is a terrific novel. Relatively short (just over 300 pages in hardcover) it is nonetheless superbly-written with vivid characters. The first-person narrative works well, as does the unusual structure (the present-day storyline alternates with flashbacks - in reverse order - showing Orna's history up until the point of her capture). Whilst the epic story of conflict between two civilisations forms the backdrop, the novel is much more concerned with Orna's emotional journey and her relationship with her late husband and her son, which is handled well with all the depth and complexity of real-life relationships. The underground steampunk-esque setting is extremely well-realised and atmospheric, as are the short sections set on the surface.
The Fallen Star The Fallen Star is about a girl named Gemma who was not able to feel any emotions until recently. Gemma meets Alex and she feels different around him, and after meeting him she starts to piece to together information about her past and she finds out that the monsters that haunt her in her dreams are actually real.
This book is a page turner and I would recommend it to anyone!
The Gift A trained submissive, Eleanor will do whatever her master commands‌even spend a week with a stranger. Daniel has been a recluse since his wife's death, and Eleanor's lover thinks spending time with her will be therapeutic especially since Daniel is also a Dom.
The Hadrian Enigma For me, this moves the book onto a higher plane than a mere homoerotic titillation and places the relationship where it belongs, in the heroic company of Patroclus/Achilles and the legendary band of Theban warrior-lovers. Gardiner successfully and daringly recuperates the much-despised and consistently misrepresented ideal of man-to-man love, here based on respect, admiration and the inspiration of noble ideals, as much as the undeniable and enjoyable erotic attraction, which we see only fitful glimpses of among sporting figures and others today. During the continuing culture wars of our own times it's a relief to read this inspiring alternative with its healing potential as an affirmative voice emerging from the diminishing, culturally imposed silence. In a strange way `The Hadrian Engima' is reminiscent of E.M. Forster's gay-affirmative novel `Maurice', which Forster was unable to publish during his lifetime. Forster's wistful happy ending for a same sex coupling was unthinkable in the mid-twentieth Century, and even today, it's hard to read such partnering as anything other than morally sinful such is our pervasive indoctrination by churchmen - or psychologically misdirected (`homosexuality' is still construed as a kind of `failed development' in conventional psychological readings). Certainly such a relationship will still be regarded as second best to the pressing imperative of reproduction. Gardiner has struck a blow with this courageous and convincing re-telling. So, for me this is a 5 star book for the outstanding and detailed research and the creative work that underpins the imaginative reconstructions at least 4 stars for its plotting, but only 3 stars for the strange inconsistencies in his prose style. This averages out to a solidly earned 4 stars.
The Informationist: A Thriller The basic story is somewhat standard thriller fare. But the way its told, the way the story is constructed, and the remarkable depth of the characters is simply amazing. Layer that with how the author weaves the story, with her deep knowledge of some of Africa's more seedy cultures and the deeply lonely yet introspective characters that populate her story, and its just some of the finest fiction I have ever read. This book is a remarkable accomplishment, by any and all measures. That is her first novel makes it even more amazing. The characters, settings, and twists are like nothing you've read, even if you're a prolific reader.

The Battle for Iwo Jima Iwo Jima is one of the most famous battles in World War II, and the greatest battle fought by the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II. From that battle came the most famous image of the war, the raising of the flag on Mount Suribachi. Robert Leckie, the bestselling author of Helmet for My Pillow has written an extraordinary story of one of th bloodiest battles in Marine Corps history.
The Jade Peony I found The Jade Peony enjoyable for two reasons. First, it is a tale of Vancouver's Chinatown during the Second World War. It gave me a glimpse into what life would have been like in this city and in Canada during that time. In particular, the forbidden relationship between a teenage Chinese girl and a Japanese boy really demonstrates the cultural struggle faced by Canadians during the war. The lines between friend and foe are confused by fear of dreadful events far away. Second, it carefully and successfully expresses the delicate dance that immigrants and their children go through when they move to Canada: how to retain the old way and still embrace the new life. In The Jade Peony, we see these firstgeneration Chinese-Canadians want to run from the old culture and the older generation vainly grasping to keep them aware. It is hard to decide who should win out, because to change is required for survival but so much is dying out. (I suppose it is what every parent and grandparent goes through as they see their children grow up and away.) If you have ever lived in or near Vancouver, read this book. If you have ever experienced the duality felt by anyone who immigrates to a new country or who is born of immigrant parents, read this book. If you have experienced or seen neither of these things, read this book to get a good sense of what you have missed.
The King of Diamonds Tolkien's smooth writing style belies the complexity of his plot and storyline. Multiple stories are seamlessly interwoven from one chapter to the next with characters you can see and feel. Any reader will be challenged to forget the villainous Franz Claes, the vulnerable Vanessa or the unethical Detective McCrae... not to mention our hero Trave who stands as tall as Commander Dalgliesh or Inspector Lindley. Overall, The King of Diamonds is a superb read that should not be missed.
The Late, Lamented Molly Marx If after death you had the choice to visit your family and friends, and understand their thoughts, would you? Molly Marx is 35 when she dies in an unexplained bicycle accident, and she chooses to "visit" during the first year after her death. Molly is married to a successful plastic surgeon (who comes equipped with a stereotypical over protective Jewish mother), has a four year-old daughter she loves with all her heart, close relationships with her family, good friends, a fulfilling and creative career, and a handsome, romantic lover. Molly's life is cut short during a bicycle ride in Riverside Park on a rainy day, and she suddenly finds herself in a place called the Duration. From the Duration, and newly equipped with a fully functioning bull*&$) meter, Molly watches as life goes on without her. Nicely juxtaposed with important events that occurred before Molly's death, the reader is treated to perspectives of Molly's life from her memories, current events, the thoughts of her loved ones, and even an NYC detective who is trying to discover how Molly died. In the end, we discover how Molly died is less important than how she lived, and how pieces of Molly lived on in other long after she was gone. The Late, Lamented Molly Marx is simultaneously funny and sad. Molly's life was complicated and messy, and her death brought out the best and worst of her family and friends. It is an engaging book, keeping the reader immersed to discover how Molly died and what happens afterwards, and an enjoyable read from beginning to end.
The Magic Thief: Found Pickpocket-turned-wizard Connwaer is back for his biggest adventure ever in FOUND, the final book in the Magic Thief fantasy trilogy. This series is set in the magical city of Wellmet, which is comprised of two very different sections separated by a serpentine river flowing between them: beautiful and glamorous Sunrise on the eastern shore, and ugly, run-down Twilight on the western shore, home to all of Wellmet's warehouses and factories. The Dutchess Willa Forestal ruled over Sunrise with the help of her wizards, while Twilight found itself in the fearsome clutches of Underlord Crowe, whose minions handed out their own brand of justice.

The Magic Thief: Lost Again, Wellmet's magic is waning and the Shadow men have returned with renewed strength. Having lost his own locus magicalicus, Conn must resort to pyrotechnics, or fireworks, to speak with the magic that has always protected Wellmet. Nevery warns Conn that pyrotechnics are dangerous and forbidden. After all, they damaged his home, Heartstease. Undaunted and desperate to communicate with the magic the only way he can, Conn perseveres until his hopes are literally blown to pieces and disaster ensues, injuring somebody near and dear to him.
The Man Who Broke Into Auschwitz: A True Story of World War II The Man Who Broke into Auschwitz is the extraordinary true story of a British soldier who marched willingly into the concentration camp, Buna-Monowitz, known as Auschwitz III. In the summer of 1944, Denis Avey was being held in a British POW labour camp, E715, near Auschwitz III. He had heard of the brutality meted out to the prisoners there and he was determined to witness what he could. He hatched a plan to swap places with a Jewish inmate and smuggled himself into his sector of the camp. He spent the night there on two occasions and experienced at first-hand the cruelty of a place where slave workers, had been sentenced to death through labor. Astonishingly, he survived to witness the aftermath of the Death March where thousands of prisoners were murdered by the Nazis as the Soviet Army advanced. After his own long trek right across central Europe he was repatriated to Britain. For decades he couldn't bring himself to revisit the past that haunted his dreams, but now Denis Avey feels able to tell the full story a tale as gripping as it is moving which offers us a unique insight into the mind of an ordinary man whose moral and physical courage are almost beyond belief.
The Mercenary There are more elusive things than water in this wasteland. Now that a monstrous London machine has stolen the clouds from the sky, Asher Connor survives by selling his mercenary skills to transport water across York’s wasted moorland. Until his unit is attacked by a pack of Tamercontrolled wolves, and his ingenious mechanical arm fails. He awakens, surprised to find he’s still alive and dependent on a charming, attractive, utterly infuriating desert-dweller. The copper-eyed, untamed Gabriel is Asher’s only hope. At least until he reaches a technician who can repair his arm. Reluctant trust turns to desire in the wake of another Tamer attack, and the adrenaline rush locks them in a bond of wildfire lust. Yet despite Gabriel’s deceptively relaxed attitude, he is dangerously focused. When they get to London, Asher manages to work out only part of the reason. His lover is connected to some kind of underground movement that’s got something big in the works. So big, even quick-with-a-comeback Gabriel is maddeningly tight-lipped. When betrayal brings the plan crashing down, Asher is plunged into a battle that wasn’t his to fight and if he doesn’t execute the final stage, Gabriel’s blood could be on his hands. Warning: This title contains hot mansex, mild but manly swearing, jealousy possibly leading to yet more hot mansex, ancestral rituals, frightening flying machines, clockwork owls, inopportune admirers and the complicity of odd scientists.
The Mists of Avalon This is a most unique novel and Ms. Bradley's innovative fantasy version of Camelot, Britain during the Dark Ages, and the profound changes which took place in the land and among the people during this period had me riveted until I completed the last page. If you are open to a different take on a classic tale, then I highly recommend this wonderful novel.
The Murder Stone This is a great book! Our book club chose this one to read, and we all loved it very much. Full of great characters, and plenty of twists in this mystery keep you guessing all the way to the end of the book, with still a few questions not quite settled in our minds. Very good read.

The Painted Drum The story of the painted drum is a tale that blends the pragmatism of the modern world with the unexplained mystical forces that inexplicably bind past and present together. When estate appraiser, Faye Travers discovers the drum found in the attic of a deceased client, she does something that she's never been tempted to do. She steals it and seeks out its rightful owner. When she finds the family of the man who initially crafted the drum, she hears the story of how it came into being. She comes to understand how the drum itself may have compelled her to act on its behalf.
The Paris Secret The Paris Secret is a roller coaster ride that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat! This book had elements of The Bourne books...mystery, intrigue, and romance. Simon was like Jason Bourne and Maya was the love interest. Together they worked well together. Simon had the brawn and Maya had the brains. Every new character that was introduced in this story added to the story. There were some twists and surprises along the way. If you want to know how it all ends than you will have to purchase a copy of The Paris Secret for yourself.
The Proof is in the Pudding Della Carmichael is the hostess and chef of a West Coast cable cooking show. She also runs a small cooking school. Her deceased husband was a cop so she has some useful connections for her adventures. Make no mistake, this novel is not a cozy. Even though set in Southern California, and the circle of suspects and other characters is limited, many of readers' expectations about cozy crime novels are broken. There are pets. There is some fine humor and the pace is enough to keep even non-foodies interested. And, this is a whee of a story.
The Red Blazer Girls: The Ring of Rocamadour
Ms. Harriman recently discovered a birthday card written by her now-deceased father to her daughter 20 years ago. It has been hidden in an old book, lost and unknown. The card invites Ms. Harriman's daughter to decipher the clues to find a rare and valuable treasure. Ms. Harriman admits she isn't the greatest at riddles, plus one of the clues lies hidden in the school's library, so she invites the girls to help her solve the mystery. They gladly accept, diving into the chain of clues and puzzles, challenging their brains and strengthening their friendship in an adventure of a lifetime. Unfortunately, someone else is interested in the treasure as well, and will stop at nothing to claim it.
The Reluctant King I love this series and I Didn't think it could get better but I was wrong ...you just get better with each book. Cant wait. For the next one. Love the way Avalon fell so hard and finally saw Amelia. It was great to be able to follow up on the Kiran Eden bit as well. Keep em coming. Rachael.

The Time of the Wolf: A Novel of Medieval England Hereward has been wrongly outlawed by his own father, England is in turmoil, under threat from invasion and mercenaries are everywhere. Amongst a slaughtered village he finds Alric, a monk with his own guilty secret. Alric becomes the balancing and unusual friend to Hereward's berserker character. Their journey takes them abroad where Hereward develops into a far superior warrior and leader. I would have liked some more on Alric, the book does focus almost completely with Hereward and the other characters are very definitely secondary. However that really is only a very minor gripe on what was a fast paced, bloody, violent and well written historically accurate novel. All the battle scenes are well choreographed and I physically flinched reading some parts. Not for the faint hearted but if you like your early history, your vikings big and your heroes flawed and fierce this is for you.
The Twelve Tribes of Hattie Thought this was a bunch of short stories loosely tied together, but it wasn't. It seemed to start out that way and I'm not fond of short stories, but it was actually the story of Hattie from 1925 to 1980. The narration was mostly through her eyes and sometimes through her children's eyes. But it moved along through time and kept the story riveting. Not sure if I liked Hattie, but I certainly sympathized with her. Not sure if I liked all of her children either. But it's really Hattie that the reader gets to know and reluctantly, at least for me, admire.
The Unexpected Choice Thank you, Stephanie Taylor, for bringing us this book. The Unexpected Choice so very accurately depicts how our choices have long-term effects on our future. The characters in this book are real. You could find them in your neighborhood. They make choices which go beyond their own personal needs and hopes in order to give to others. But in the end, can they find the life they'd always dreamed of? Stephanie once again grasps her readers in an adventure of love and draws them in to a story they could very well find themselves in. What would you give up for someone else's future? Would you be able to sacrifice your life for another's?

Assassin's Creed: Forsaken I have enjoyed all of the Assassin's Creed books so far, and this one has become my favorite of the five. The journal entires of Haytham Kenway are the near-entirety of this text. It explains how Haytham became what he was, and how that played into his interactions with Connor closer to end of story.
A Time to Betray: The Astonishing Double Life of a CIA Agent Inside the Revolutionary Guards of Iran This book should be required reading for everyone in our government so they can understand what's really behind the intentions of the ruling clerics and Amahdinejad. This is an insider's front row view of what's really going on in Iran. Iran's ruling clerics are truly bad people who mean to do us harm and Kahlili clearly presents case after case testifying to it. Reza Kahlili is an alias and after you read this book, you'll understand why he can't use his real name. I expect since radical Islamists won't know where to find him, they'll attack this book. After you read this book, you'll understand why they'll attack him. This is the most definitive indictment of the corruption and true intentions of some very nasty people.
Interred with Their Bones If you are a Shakespeare lover, you will be absolutely seduced by the quest for a lost play. Even if you are not, the adventure and appeal of this story might send you back to the bookstore to buy Hamlet immediately after you finish it! The other reviews offer more plot detail, but I will say that while this book can't possibly escape comparisons to the Da Vinci Code, this is so much better written (without the silly withheld information or artificial cliffhangers). The novel is loaded with thoughtful discussions of the various mysteries about Shakespeare, but they never get in the way of a steadily moving plot that only gets better and better as the novel goes on. I read it while traveling, and never has a plane flight gone so fast. I highly recommend it and will be buying it for all my friends for Christmas.
Pym Although Pym is hysterically funny at times, Johnson makes us take a meaningful look at race. His satire and comedy hide a serious side to this story. "I like Poe, I like Melville, I like Hemingway, but what I like the most about the great literature created by the Americans of European descent is the Africanist presence within it. I like looking for myself in the whitest of pages. I like finding evidence of myself there, after being told my footprints did not exist on that sand. I think the work of the great white writers is important, but I think it's most important when it's negotiating me and my people, because I am as arrogant and selfish a reader as any other." In many respects, Johnson shows true genius.

The Dictionary of Slang 2000 | ISBN: 019280104X | PDF | 474 pages | 17 MB Slang is language with its sleeves rolled up, colorful, pointed, brash, bristling with humor and sometimes with hostility. Here, John Ayto has brought together over 10,000 slang words and phrases common to 20th-century English, to provide a comprehensive and highly engaging guide to the most outspoken corner of our language. Unlike most such dictionaries, this volume is organized thematically, with slang words gathered under such headings as "the body and its functions" or "sustenance and intoxication." Within each section, the words are listed chronologically, starting with the century's earliest words and phrases and progressing right through to the present day, thus illuminating the
development of slang and colloquial language over the last hundred years. Word origins and other interesting features of usage are given wherever possible, as are illustrative quotations from a wide range of authors. A comprehensive AZ index lists all words included in the dictionary, so you can find a particular word quickly. From "five-finger discount" to "forty-rod whiskey," this is an authoritative and up-to-date record of slang throughout the English-speaking world.

Everything Is Under Control covers the range of Wilson's kaleidoscopic knowledge, from John Adams to the Voronezh (former Soviet Union) UFO sighting, the Campus Crusade for Cthulhu to the Mothman prophecies, and everything in between. What do the Freemasons, the Kennedys, and Princess Diana have in common? All are at the center of gigantic conspiracy theories with incredibly complex and endlessly multiplying twists, turns, highways and byways. Arranged by alphabetical entries which include cross-references to other entries in the book and also provide addresses to related sites on the Web, this book is truly interactive--you can dip in, read through, or follow one of the URLs from an interesting entry onto the internet.
Alcohol Fuel: A Guide to Making and Using Ethanol as a Renewable Fuel Published: 2009-11-01 | ISBN: 0865716269 | PDF | 288 pages | 3 MB
Dwindling petroleum supplies and growing environmental concerns are significantly impacting the cost of petro-fuel and its infrastructure. The search for alternative fuel sources has led to ethanol, a gasoline substitute that is already in the marketplace as Gasohol and E-85. But large-scale production of corn-based ethanol is controversial as it threatens the world’s food supply. There are alternatives, however: Brazil uses sugar cane, which is up to six times more productive in energy conversion. After the energy crisis of the 1970s, there was a lot of misinformation about the cost of individual ethanol production. In order to achieve energy independence from gasoline, ethanol lends itself to small-scale production, and especially to cooperative ventures in rural communities, often using “waste” feedstock. Alcohol Fuel is a practical, grassroots book that will give readers all the information they need, covering every aspect of making and using ethanol for fuel, including: Permitting and planning Budgeting and setup Sourcing feedstocks Finding and building distillation equipment Storage and safety Practical applications for converting motor vehicles, farm equipment, and space-heating systems The practical, user-friendly information on basic equipment needs, fermentation recipes, and distillation designs will be of interest to readers looking for information, as well as to those ready to make the switch. Richard Freudenberger was research director of Mother Earth News, where he managed the Alcohol Fuel Program and developed solar and renewable solar and energy projects. He is publisher and technical editor of BackHome magazine and lives in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

Beyond records of sightings and other fascinating reportage by armed forces personnel there is much evidence to prove that the government is covering up more information than it is reluctantly revealing.
