The Children of the Sky Vinge has created a very rich cast of characters and some very frightening conflicts. There is a part of the book where I think he is making his protagonists suffer just a little too much, but the resolution is very satisfying. If you enjoyed the packs storyline in Fire Upon the Deep then you will like this book a lot. If, like me, you are interested in how the Vinge deals with the blight program, then you will have to wait for the next book. Vinge clearly signals that the third book is on the way. He takes two to three years to write a book, though.
The Cold Commands This is a character-driven and intelligent fantasy novel, but Morgan doesn't forget to bring the mayhem. There's a midnight raid on a temple that Robert E. Howard would have approved of, more swordfights and murders than you can shake a stick at and a few rare but impressive displays of sorcery...though the dividing line between 'sorcery' and 'vastly superior technology' is intriguingly blurry. In fact, the only thing lets The Cold Commands down is that a major storyline is kicked into gear in the latter part of the novel only to be put on hold for the impressive finale. With this story presumably left to be picked up in the third book, this means that The Cold Commands does not stand alone as nicely as the The Steel Remains, and is not as selfcontained. This is a relatively minor issue, but one worth bearing in mind.
The Devil's Winchester I hope he writes at the least another 100 books, for as I've stated he just seems to get better with each new book. This book under review is well written, moves along at a gentle pace, yet moves along offering interesting incidents along the way while giving us an unexpected ending. I cannot think of a better feeling in life than to write with the skill of Peter Brandvold. I'm certain he is living a life much desired but only dreamed of when younger. The westerner and 'cowboy' in all of us while children is coming out through his writings to be savored and enjoyed by readers everywhere. He is truly a person of the 'west' writing interesting books of fiction centered on western characters living out their existence within the confines of that west.
Wisdom's Kiss In something of a sequel to "Princess Ben" comes a thoroughly intelligent story that makes a fine mark in the fairy tale world. It's enchanting, it's fun, it's creative. It's worth a read for anyone who loves fairy tales. Romance and intrigue are explained through a variety of voices. Which leads into what is truly novel about this story. This book is a clip of history... which means it's told through diary entries, letters, encyclopedias, and all other sorts of historical documents. It's not irritating in the least, but fun and surprisingly easy to follow. I felt it added quite a bit of charm to the storytelling. This is just a great book altogether. The story is wonderful, the characters are interesting, and the format is a lot of fun.
The Echo of Violence Sentinels' agent Alexa Marlowe is forced into an unlikely alliance with Jackson who is no longer the man she once knew. Now the relentless mercenary is rumored to be selling his services to the highest bidder. Alexa can only hope that whatever secrets Jackson is holding back will not end up killing everybody. Jackson cares only about rescuing Kate, but Alexa's orders are to take the terrorist leader alive, even if it means the deaths of Kate and the other hostages. FIVE STARS! I thought Jordan Dane's stories were terrific before, but now I believe they are freaking brilliant! This story only covers a very short period of time, yet the entire thing is non-stop action and suspense. As I said, freaking brilliant!

The Geronimo Breach In "The Geronimo Breach," a thriller involving the Middle East, Latin America, drugs, diplomacy, international deception and so forth, popular Indie author Russell Blake has gone out on a limb while still spinning an irresistible tale. The plot doesn't end up where the reader thinks it will, the author is unsparing in his piling on of corruption and evil doing, and perhaps most of all, he has created a protagonist, Al Ross, that was intentionally created to be next to impossible to like. Perhaps it says more about what readers have come to expect or take for granted, really that Al is actually like any number of people one encounters in life. His dubiousness as a hero stems from extremely common character traits in the real world. Readers unwilling to accept Al as protagonist may also be afraid to look in the mirror. I think that Blake was doing more than challenging the reader's stereotypes about heroes in creating Al. I think he also was trying to show how, in today's world, virtually anybody could find themselves in the midst of corruption on a major scale. For me, this made Al actually more effective as a hero, because if he could have to deal with all this so could anyone.
The Last King's Amulet I must say, this was a pretty sweet book. It did start out a little slow, but picked up right away. I like how the hero in this book isn't perfect, and how things don't always go his way. I really enjoyed the book and would say that for the price it was a steal!
The Long Glasgow Kiss Well plotted, Lennox pulls the threads of all the separate cases together, serving many masters and both sides of the law. Lennox himself is a complex character. He hates what the war has done to him. He stumbles through a moral morass, seeking what few shreds of his humanity remain. He uses women, then mires himself in self-loathing for doing just that. He reads (though not Hemingway) and tries to be a good tenant to his war-widowed landlord, Fiona White. While the first book in the series, Lennox, was equally good, Russell avoids the "second book" doldrums and produces a work not only every bit as good, but better. The characters have more depth, the plot and morals more nuanced. The first book explored the Jewish ghetto of Glasgow, the second introduces the life of the pikeys, the Irish and European gypsies who live in wagons and caravans in the countryside.
The Lovers: A Ghost Story Really enjoyed this book wish it could have been a bit longer ,read it to quickly ,but very good all the same...
The Luminist The Luminist is a gorgeous novel, deserving of five stars in just about every way save one. It contains a time-frame discrepancy that cannot be reconciled as the narrative stands. I'll avoid specifics in the hope that readers who are less detail conscious can pass right by it without notice. For me it was intrusive enough to preclude a five-star rating. In all other ways, I highly recommend the book for people who like historical fiction written in a somewhat classical prose style. I even loved the way it ended, which is increasingly uncommon for me.

The Mariner Well what can I say. I had a fair idea of what I was getting myself in to when I read the description. But my goodness was I pleased with this book. "A post-apocalyptic jaunt through a psycho-sexual nightmare" - this is spot on, accurate as one could be. I felt the flow was like that of a road-trip, a nightmare highway journey, yet this is set on the high seas sometime or anytime not so long ago or long away. The Mariner himself made me wince at my species, at my sex especially.
The Queen's Devotion: The Story of Queen Mary II Although Plaidy uses the same basic descriptions in her queens novels the flavor of each is distinct. You can still understand the background and history within the emotions of the women. I enjoy her writings.
The Rock This isn't the normal type of book that I would read, but I was recommended it and by-golly I am glad that I was was. Mr Daws draws you into to this fast paced read, leaving you totally immersed in the lives of the characters and as in any good book they become 'real' to you.
The Shivered Sky If you like war novels, fantasy novels and horror novels, you'll love this. If you dislike any one of those three, or if you don't like books that require a glossary (there's a big one in the back that was very helpful) you might want to stay away.
The Smelliest Day at the Zoo Slap bang in the middle of the hottest day of the year, the zoo's drains have blocked up and there's nowhere for the animals' poo to go! Mr Pickles the zoo keeper (who is looking distinctly green) must decide what to do with it all...Before the naughty chimps beat him to it!
The Terror The story is told from the perspective of several officers and crewmen. Simmons brings each of them to life with as much intricate detail as he provides to the frigid landscape. However, Francis Crozier, the captain of the Terror, is definitely the main character. Without spoiling anything, it's evident from the first chapter that there will be a showdown between Crozier and the creature, but the ending isn't what you'll expect. The Terror is an excellent story of misery, betrayal and redemption (heavy on the misery). If you decide to read it, do so in the winter. The cold and the wind howling outside your window will help you empathize with the plight of the characters and you'll gain a greater appreciation for the comforts of hearth and home.

The Third Section The third novel in Jasper Kent's enthralling, chilling and acclaimed historical vampire sequence The Danilov Quintet. Russia 1855. After forty years of peace in Europe, war rages. In the Crimea, the city of Sevastopol is besieged. In the north, Saint Petersburg is blockaded. But in Moscow there is one who needs only to sit and wait wait for the death of an aging tsar, and for the curse upon his blood to be passed to a new generation. As their country grows weaker, a brother and sister each unaware of the other's existence must come to terms with the legacy left them by their father. In Moscow, Tamara Valentinovna Lavrova uncovers a brutal murder and discovers that it is not the first in a sequence of similar crimes, merely the latest, carried out by a killer who has stalked the city since 1812. And in Sevastopol, Dmitry Alekseevich Danilov faces not only the guns of the combined armies of Britain and France, but must also make a stand against creatures that his father had thought buried beneath the earth, thirty years before.
The Town The day after the 100th running of the Boston Marathon, Claire Keesey, a branch manager for a Boston bank, walks into her bank to start her day. And what a start it is! She is met by four men in horribly scarred masks and told to open the vault. She does this reluctantly, and in the midst of the robbery she is able to initiate the silent alarm. However, one of the robbers has a wire into the alarms and alerts the others. They finish taking the money leaving the top layers of monies that are marked and take Claire as a hostage. On the way out one of the robbers beats the assistant manager thinking he was the one to set the alarm. All of this is registered in Claire's memory. Claire is released unhurt but with residual psychological damage.
The Vampire Tapestry Weyland's relationships with the humans he encounters are so different that each chapter varies wildly in tone. I personally found Mark's chapter the most powerful, with a wonderful picture of the terror and aching conscience of a truly good boy, and Floria's curiously anticlimatic considering her obvious significance. Everyone will have a favorite. Though not quite perfect, a welcome addition to any vampire fiction collection.
The Wrong Side of Dead This book was so good. It had great characters with a lot of levels that are not yet discovered. There were suprises all through the book and it is very well written. I can't wait to read more so I can find out more about each character. Seth Harper is a young man feeling deprived of his fathers love so he sets out to make contact with young women his father saved from a pedaphile while he worked as a cop. This gets him into trouble when he is set up for murder. Jess a bounty hunter and Seth's friend sets out to prove his innocence and is forced to deal with her own childhood demons. Jess gets help from other strong women. One is Sammie who is a long time friend and cop. The other woman is Alexa who works for an unknown employer and shows up and helps her with Seth's case and offers her a lucrative job after they resolve Seth's case. By the end of the book you don't know who she'll be working for and what the job is...
Two Women
In telling the story of New York accounting firm executive John Carver's battle with the ruling families of American crime, Freemantle creates scenes that feel oddly askew-almost akin to those black-and-white movies about American criminals that British studios produced in the 1950s. There's no shortage of action, and Carver's wife and his mistressboth central to the novel's plot-are sharply delineated. His wife, Jane, the protected daughter of the firm's domineering founder, must slowly come to terms with her father's criminal behavior as well as her husband's infidelity his mistress, Alice, is a shrewd financial journalist but also a woman with strong mothering instincts. Jane is still reeling from her father's death when the news comes that her husband has been killed, too, in another "accident" that smacks of foul play. Alice aids the distraught Jane, and the two become uneasy partners in a world where they can trust no one-not even each other-as the mob closes in and the FBI probe heats up. Their scenes together are always interesting and often credible, but the same can't be said for the unconvincing bad guys.

Until the Sun Falls This is a splendid, unforgettable work. Its scope sweeps across half the world. The Mongols ruled the largest land empire the world has ever known. How many people today realize that amazing fact? Holland's research is very impressive. She has stood on the ground she describes. The wind of the steppes has blown in her face, and she has walked among the descendants of those terrible horsemen. If you like historical novels, don't miss this book. You will probably never find a better one.

When It Happens to You: A Novel in Stories The first story tells of a family of three in California Greta, Phillip and their young daughter Charlotte that hopes to become a family of four, with the help of fertility experts. Next we'll delve into the relationship of Greta and her mother, who love to interfere in each others' lives but resent reciprocity (We learn Greta and Phillip have split, but Mom does not). Next, we go to the playground with Phillip and Charlotte where we meet her playmate Oliver who insists he's really an Olivia and his single mother, Miranda. The next story, wonderfully well told by our knows-the-territory-wellindeed author, introduces Peter Layton, a just-fired (drugs perchance?) longtime star of a popular children's TV show, who leaves New York to come to L.A. and start over and is instantly attracted to Greta. Then comes the title story which opens with...
Whispers of Heaven An emotionally rich story, set in the lush and sometimes unforgiving background of Tasmania, WHISPERS OF HEAVEN is an incredible romance. It brings together two people with apparently nothing in common who both learn to overlook their prejudices and see the person underneath. Jessie begins to love Lucas as the person he has become, though scarred and tortured by the horrors of his last four years as a convict. And Lucas looks beyond Jessie's haughty English exterior and sees the woman she is at heart with an unending capacity for love. Ms. Proctor's descriptive writing adds much to this wonderful historical. Candice Proctor is definitely one of the rising stars of the romance genre.
Grave Memory Alex Craft, Grave Witch extraordinaire, makes her living solving murders by raising the deceased shade. Her latest case involves an apparent suicide that she was hired to investigate. When several more suicides pop up with the same circumstances, Alex realizes that these deaths weren't suicides at all but murder. But getting to the bottom of this case may just put her in the crosshairs for the killer's next target.

Ten Miles Past Normal I love the contrast between what Janie wanted as a kid and what she believes she wants in the present. It rings so true, these childhood dreams of living somewhere rural and nonstandard and then hitting the teen years where everyone wants to be as urban and conforming as possible. But deep down, most readers are eager to absorb stories about unique people, and Ten Miles Past Normal certainly delivers on that front. Janie wouldn't truly be happy in the average life she imagines for herself, and it's gratifying to see her learn to live large, have fun, help people, and see past appearances.
The Ballad of the Sad Cafe: and Other Stories Beware, if you are new to southern lit you might want to know a few tips...stories are usually a tragedy, the characters are usually flawed emotionally and often physically, and setting plays a huge part of the story. Don't forget language either. Carson McCullers captures the true essence of all of these in her writing. Sad Cafe is no exception. It is a story that stays with you in some way. I know it has definitely stayed with me. I find myself wanting to pick it up again and again. Whether you are from the South or not, don't miss out on this beautiful and haunting piece of literature.

Sherlock Holmes and the Zombie Problem This is an interesting take on Sherlock Holmes, it updates the fabulous traditional Holmes story with a hard, violent edge. Its a real page turner...
Shymers Simply said, this is an amazing book. Intriguing characters, a lot of suspense, and very well written. It was hard to put it down. But while I can say that about many books I have read, this book is so different from others. The concept of a society being divided based on when they will die is a haunting thought. Every time I set the book down, I kept wondering if this could be in our future.

Katya's World Then, there's Katya Kuriakova. Too young to experience death and war first hand, but so much more pragmatic in the danger of battle than even a high ranking FMA soldier. Katya's character comes as a surprise, and her ability to come to conclusions based on observation and previous knowledge strikes a chord with me. I'm so glad she doesn't come across as immature, even though she's the youngest person participating in this journey, and she actually carries her weight in responsibility without prompting. She's an exciting character to look forward to more and more novels about because she's so focused on what's in front of her there's no romantic interest to distract her from her indestructible enemy and she knows when it's time to move forward. Katya's mind is clear and not filled with nonsensical thoughts or ideas. Howard's creation is one of a kind and readers will be so curious to learn more about Katya Kuriakova's next move.
Live by Night Lehane has written a taut, exciting story about a Prohibition Era criminal that delivers on many levels. Live by Night starts quickly and moves at fevered speed through the Boston underworld, Charlestown prison and the Tampa waterfront. The characters, especially Joe Coughlin, are immediately accessible and many layered. The plot is almost unbearably tense at times but the novel also contains a believable love story and historical color.
Night Must Wait In the mid-1960s, Kate Wilton, an extraordinary painter who could mimic any of the great artists, sells her three friends the dream that anything is possible in Nigeria, including wealth and fame. None of these brilliant, ambitious women comprehend that civil war will blow their world asunder. They should be careful what they wish for.
One of the Wicked It isn't in Callahan's nature to avoid a fight. Embroiled in a complicated love-hate relationship with a policewoman he'd been dating seriously and supported by his regular cast of quirky characters, he sets out on his own to uncover the truth. One set of mob bosses leads to another. Callahan seems to be on the trail of the money and disk, only to have it whisked out from under him. Throw in the unexpected appearance of a family member he never knew he had, the loss of his radio show, and a trail of beaten and murdered suspects, and suddenly nothing in Mick's world seems safe. One thing is certain: the people after this disk are willing to do whatever it takes to ensure its safe return, and Mick Callahan and his friends are expendable parts in a very dirty and dangerous game.
Panic Button This was quite a suspenseful and riveting thriller. I expected to read it over a period of several days, but couldn't put this book down and finished it in a single sitting (mostly on the edge of my seat!) It's not for the faint of heart - there's plenty of violence, sex and gore. The lesson that I walked away with was discomfort with how much information is on the Internet, free for anyone with knowledge of cyber-stalking or hacking.

Rapture Some will inevitably complain about the book's final pages, but I rather liked them. The end seemed appropriate in light of everything that had transpired. Ultimately, Rapture is an enjoyable book which continues the tradition of its predecessors. There's conflicted anti-heroes, unique world-building, politics, religion, and mystery. It's too bad that the plot is less inventive and less exciting than in God's War and Infidel, but Rapture is still a good book. Hurley's fans will enjoy it.
Reckoning for the Dead: A Sweet Justice Novel Overnight, a new leader has mysteriously assumed control of the elite vigilante organization, a man Alexa Marlowe can't afford to trust. In search of Garrett and the truth, she goes rogue and off the grid, following a deadly trail that leads into Mexico, behind the fortress walls of a murderous drug cartel boss. Alone, Alexa has no one to watch her back, not even her new partner, Jessie. Ex-bounty hunter, Jessie Beckett, has troubles of her own. Her world is turned upside down when her DNA turns up as evidence in a gruesome murder committed when Jessie was only a child, before her life was shattered by an infamous killer. Solving a very cold case may hold the key to who she really is or kill the only memory she has of a woman she believes is her mother. For Alexa and Jessie, the dead must have a reckoning.
Return To Me One thing that did puzzle me was the 180 degree change in some of the characters like Brad. He starts off a jerk but ends up a hurt boy who fights to get his real love back, I couldn't really find the logical place where that happened. Overall though, Return to Me appealed to me more than Standing in the Shadows but I've loved all three of McKenna's full length books as well as the short stories she's done. All hail the misunderstood bad boy.
The Ward Jordana Frankel’s ambitious debut novel and the first in a two-book series, The Ward is arresting, cinematic, and thrilling perfect for fans of Scott Westerfeld or Ann Aguirre.
Hidden Things
So all I can say is that this is a deeply-crafted urban (or perhaps rural) fantasy that will carry you, like its protagonist, on a white water ride of discovery and drama and horror and hope. It was well worth reading, and will be well worth rereading multiple times in the future.

Open Heart, Open Mind: Awakening the Power of Essence Love 2012 | ISBN-10: 0307888207 | PDF | 272 pages | 13 MB In Open Heart, Open Mind, Tsoknyi Rinpoche—one of the most beloved of the contemporary generation of Tibetan Buddhist meditation masters—explains that a life free of fear, pain, insecurity, and doubt is not only possible, it’s our birthright. We long for peace, for the ability to love and be loved openly and freely, and for the confidence and clarity to meet the various challenges we face in our daily lives.
Within each of us resides a spark of unparalleled brilliance, an unlimited capacity for warmth, openness, and courage, which Rinpoche identifies as “essence love. Timeless and imperishable, essence love is often layered over by patterns of behavior and belief that urge us to seek happiness in conditions or situations that never quite live up to their promise. Drawing on rarely discussed teachings of Tibetan Buddhism, Rinpoche describes how such patterns evolve and offers a series of meditation exercises to help us unravel them and, in the process, reawaken an energy and exuberance that can not only bring lasting fulfillment to our lives but ultimately serve to enliven and inspire the entire world, as well. With great humor, intelligence, and candor, Tsoknyi Rinpoche also details his own struggles to reconnect with essence love. Identified at an early age as the incarnation of a renowned Tibetan master and subjected to a rigorous monastic training, he ultimately renounced his vows, married, and is now the father of two daughters. As he recounts his own efforts to strike a balance between the promptings of his heart and an obligation to preserve and protect the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism, Rinpoche provides a bridge between ancient wisdom and modern life, and encourages each of us to rediscover the openness, fearlessness, and love that is the essence of our own life.

The Magic of Reality How We Know What's Really True (Audiobook) English | 2011 | ISBN: 1442341769 | MP3 | 368 MB Richard Dawkins, the world’s most famous evolutionary biologist, presents a gorgeously lucid, science book examining some of the nature’s most fundamental questions both from a mythical and scientific perspective. Science is our most precise and powerful tool for making sense of the world. Before we developed the scientific method, we created rich mythologies to explain the unknown. The pressing questions that primitive men and women asked are the same ones we ask as children. Who was the first person? What is the sun? Why is there night and day? The myths that address these questions are beautiful, but in every case their beauty is exceeded by the scientific truth. With characteristic clarity and verve, Dawkins answers these big questions. Looking first at some of the myths that arose to answer the question, he then, dazzles us with the facts. He looks at the building blocks of matter, the first humans, the sun—explaining the life and death of stars; why there’s a night and a day—ranging from our solar system to the inner workings of our planet; what a rainbow really is—going from the rainbow in your backyard to the age of the universe; and finally, he poses a question that still baffles scientists: When did everything begin?
Agent 6 (Audiobook)
English | 2012 | ISBN: 1611139902 | MP3 | 180 MB WHO IS AGENT 6? Tom Rob Smith's debut, Child 44, was an immediate publishing sensation and marked the arrival of a major new talent in contemporary fiction. Named one of top 100 thrillers of all time by NPR, it hit bestseller lists around the world, won the CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger Award and the ITW Thriller Award for Best First Novel, and was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize. In this spellbinding new novel, Tom Rob Smith probes the tenuous border between love and obsession as Leo Demidov struggles to untangle the threads of a devastating conspiracy that shatters everything he holds dear. Deftly capturing the claustrophobic intensity of the Cold War-era Soviet Union, it's at once a heart-pounding thriller and a richly atmospheric novel of extraordinary depth.... AGENT 6 Leo Demidov is no longer a member of Moscow's secret police. But when his wife, Raisa, and daughters Zoya and Elena are invited on a "Peace Tour" to New York City, he is immediately suspicious. Forbidden to travel with his family and trapped on the other side of the world, Leo watches helplessly as events in New York unfold and those closest to his heart are pulled into a web of political conspiracy and betrayal-one that will end in tragedy. In the horrible aftermath, Leo demands only one thing: to investigate the killer who destroyed his family. His request is summarily denied. Crippled by grief and haunted by the need to find out exactly what happened on that night in New York, Leo takes matters into his own hands. It is a quest that will span decades, and take Leo around the world--from Moscow, to the mountains of Soviet-controlled Afghanistan, to the backstreets of New York--in pursuit of the one man who knows the truth: Agent 6.

The Occult Roots of Nazism: Secret Aryan Cults and Their Influence on Nazi Ideology 2004 | ISBN-10: 1860649734 | PDF | 304 pages | 14 MB
Over half a century after the defeat of the Third Reich the complexities of Nazi ideology are still being unravelled. This text is a serious attempt to identify these ideological origins. It demonstrates the way in which Nazism was influenced by powerful occult and millenarian sects that thrived in Germany and Austria at the turn of the century. Their ideas and symbols filtered through to nationalist-racist groups associated with the infant Nazi party and their fantasies were played out with terrifying consequences in the Third Reich: Auschwitz, Sobibor and Treblinka are the hellish museums of the Nazi apocalypse. This bizarre and fascinating story contains lessons we cannot afford to ignore. Sixty years after the defeat of the Third Reich the complexities of Nazi ideology are still being unravelled. This book has provided the first serious account of the way in which Nazism was moulded by powerful occult and millenarian sects that thrived in Germany and Austria at the turn of the century. Their ideas and symbols filtered through to nationalist-racist groups associated with the infant Nazi party, and in time exerted a strong influence on Himmler's SS. Their fantasies were played out with terrifying consequences in the Third Reich: Auschwitz, Sobibor and Treblinka are the hellish museums of the Nazi apocalypse, the roots of which lay in the millennial visions of occult sects. This bizarre and fascinating story contains lessons we cannot afford to ignore.
The History of Zonaras: From Alexander Severus to the Death of Theodosius the Great 2009 | ISBN-10: 0415299098 | PDF | 336 pages | 4 MB While an exile from Constantinople, the twelfth-century Byzantine functionary and canonist John Zonaras culled earlier chronicles and histories to compose an account of events from creation to the reign of Alexius Comnenus. For topics where his sources are lost or appear elsewhere in more truncated form, his testimony and the identification of the texts on which he depends are of critical importance. For his account of the first two centuries of the Principate, Zonaras employed now-lost portions of Cassius Dio. From the point where Dio’s History ended, to the reign of Theodosius the Great (d. 395), he turned to other sources to produce a uniquely full historical narrative of the critical years 235-395, making Books XII.15-XIII.19 of the Epitome central to the study of both late Roman history and late Roman and Byzantine historiography. This key section of the Epitome, together with Zonaras’ Prologue, here appears in English for the first time, both complemented by a historical and historiographical commentary. A special feature of the latter is a first-ever English translation of a broad range of sources which illuminate Zonaras’ account and the historiographical traditions it reflects. Among the authors whose newly translated works occupy a prominent place in the commentary are George Cedrenus, George the Monk, John of Antioch, Peter the Patrician, Symeon Magister, and Theodore Scutariotes. Specialized indices facilitate the use of the translations and commentary alike. The result is an invaluable guide and stimulus to further research for scholars and students of the history and historiography of Rome and Byzantium.
