Valkyrie The book was not only interesting but showed what bullying can lead to. I'm young and love fantasy but this book made me realize that you can find magic in other types of books too. I love how the author almost connects with you about being with your friends and that a good friend would stand up and say something or like the characters in the book did, protect their friends and stuck together. I have also read "Pegasus" and thought that book was equally fantastic.

Under the Dusty Sky felt some things in this story were true to real life and the way people act. I really like that the story had Gracie and Ben's povs. I like that it was not a story where there was instant love. Gracie and Ben were "in like" and on a journey

towards love. I like that they didn't rush into saying the "L" word. Based on Gracie's feelings about love, I felt that it made sense to not just throw the word out there.

Traitor I'm giving "Traitor" four stars instead of five because of the complexity of the plot. That's not normally a problem for me as a reader of historical fiction, however in this case I feel that Rory Clements is trying to cram five pounds of stuff into a three pound bag. But it is still an excellent read, particularly for Rory Clements fans.

Twice Upon a Time It's geting harder to find good books somtimes I feel like some authors grab at any idea they can find, but any author that can make fairy tails that exciting they deserve alot of credit, James Riley desereves more credit then any one person can give him.

Tidewater Inn Even then, Tidewater Inn was an enjoyable read from start to finish. It begins strong how can a kidnapping not capture the reader's attention?? and pushes on to a strong finish. If you've never had the pleasure of reading a book by Colleen Coble, I encourage you to get out there and try one! She always ensures a delightful read.

The Trap If you like East Enders and Good fella's. Mingle them together. This is the book for you. Absolutely fabulous read. I laughed, I cried. It was just amazing. I read lots of books. This one. Is one of my favorites. Can not wait for the sequel. Yep I just found out there is one coming. WOO HOO!

Thousand Words The story resonated deeply with me and I imagine it will resonate with many who read it. Ashleigh trusted Kaleb blindly, she thought that Kaleb would always be there for her and "protect" their relationship. She finds out who her real friends are when Kaleb sends the picture of her to his whole baseball team...and then it goes viral. Anyone who has had someone very close to them turn against them...whether it be a boyfriend, girlfriend or best friend will be able to relate to the betrayal felt by Ashleigh. Ashleigh finds out who her true friends...and more importantly who her true self is as she deals with the aftermath of her mistake. She learns that although her mistake was very visible and hard to hide that it does not define her as a person and her mistake does not tell the whole story of her life.

The Steam Mole I reread Cuttlefish the first book in this series, then read two other new books by other top five favorite authors then read Steam Mole. WOW! I didn't think Dave Freer could top Cuttlefish, and then he did.

The S-Word The more I think about this book, the more I like it. It's not a romance. It's not a story about being popular, or getting the cute boy to like you. It's about choices and how we treat each other. The story of Elizabeth Hart is the story on how we destroy each other. It's the story of our cruelty, of the things that we say and do to each other that can affect the course of someone's life.

The Runaway Queen I loved the first one and I'm happy to say the love continues for Magnus Bane. I love reading more about our High Warlock of Brooklyn.

The Roving Tree One of the things I liked most about the book was travelling the continents with the main character, Iris, and not feeling like an outsider or a tourist. I experienced rural Haitian villages through Iris's eyes, and I was just as entrenched in her urban surroundings of Kinshasa, Port au Prince, and New York City as she was. As Iris struggles to find her roots, a window opens for the reader and we see not only a world of poverty, class discrimination, and political injustice but one of ancestral awakenings, maternal love, and compassion. Looking forward to this author's next novel.

The Blood Eagle in the Big Easy First of all this is not a just a murder mystery as I had thought, it is so much more. From the opening prologue, I was interested, then I got into the book and couldn't put it down! With the influx of mysticism, it became extremely intriguing and exciting and I found myself holding my breath. His characters and story so seem real that makes you want to go to New Orleans and check it out for yourself! Great story telling by Mr Lang! I'm really looking forward to the next book!

Tea and Destiny Busy woman, busy life, time to smell the roses in an all encompassing experience. Comfortable read when curled up with a cup of tea!

The Big Blind Nadia Wolf had one wish, and it wasn’t for the latest designer purse, fashion-forward clothing, or even a handsome man to marry . . . although, that would be acceptable too. Her wish was to win the World Series of Poker tournament and collect the one million dollar prize, beating the arrogant men who make her professional poker career a daily challenge. The odds were stacked against her when sexy poker celebrity Caleb Usher sat down at her table. As they pin their battles against each other, a steamy side wager drew them both in and gave them an even greater reason to fight for the championship. It only took one hand to make tournament history and leave them both hot under the collar. But before they could settle their spicy wager, the million dollar prize disappeared in front of an audience. Not one witness could explain what happened or where the money disappeared to.

Stuck on You

The amusing connection that KT and Laura have follows them into the bedroom, where their interactions are not bogged down with descriptive sex, but rather sweet, slightly steamy, passionate couplings. Cute, funny conversation gets them out of their clothes, but once the deed is done, they open up to each other and their chatting takes on a more serious tone, but not at all stressful. The author transitions nicely from one emotion to the next, keeping it light and not heavy on the angst. She was able to carrying this through the entire read, making the book that much more enjoyable.

Storm Front (Derrick Storm) You don't need to be a Castle fan to enjoy Storm Front the plot and the writing are strong enough to allow this book to stand on its own. Add in all the touches that make Rick Castle's books so much fun, and you have one really amazing story.

Stealing Harper If you have read Taking Chances you definitely want to be picking this one up too.. You think you are prepared because you know the story but you won't be. The heartbreak is so much greater the 2nd time around because we get everything through Chase's PoV.. I loved every single moment I got to spend with Chase even though I cried throughout most of it.. A Must Read!

Shadow on the Sun Durango has always looked out for his devastatingly beautiful and brave second-in-command, Vienne now wounded, crushed, missing. Vienne is the only reason he wants to live.

Southern Fried Sushi In the beginning the story kind of took off slow, but something made me continue to read and I'm glad that I did. This was my first book from this author, but I'm sure it won't be the last. I gave this book four stars simply because I didn't like the beginning but am glad that I finished the story because I truly learned something wonderful from this message...

Rock On: The Greatest Hits of Science Fiction & Fantasy Kick out the jams with hot licks and fantastic riffs on rock and roll from the only kind of fiction that feeds the soul: science fiction and fantasy. Like rock, speculative fiction is larger than life, there’s no limit on where it can take you. And neither is even now fully respectable. Electrifying stories with the drive, the emotion, the soul of rock. Headliners and rising stars take the stage with their greatest hits. Find a place, grab some space . . . get ready to rock!

Written in the Sky: Rise of the Wadjet I am intrigued by the way the plot is furthered by static explanation and historical, scientific, and/or mythological background, and that it works. Mostly. That's quite a balancing act. While the exposition is important, I think it could be shortened. That said, I'll be back for book two.

Promised I love this book ! There are no other words for it from the uncommon names to the story line it was simply amazing. I fell in love with Linc and I Rooted for him and Wyn at the same time hoping he would ditch her and run away with me. But I loved learning about Wyn's crazy life and I secretly liked her even tho I didn't really want too. And oh my gosh Nate and dani love them and their personality. Amazing job on telling a story and bring me into the book. I felt like I was right there along for the ride!

Praefatio This book started out a little slow for me. I couldn't get the characters straight and I wasn't sure what was going on. Then everything fell into place and I couldn't stop reading! I was so glad to see the main character, Grace, not some wimpy, "oh woe is me" heroine. This girl is kicking ass and taking names! I couldn't stand Gavin but I warmed up to him eventually. Grace's "brother", Remi, made me fall in love with him. My heart broke for him a couple of times. As you can see, I loved everything about this book!

Pirate Alley The mastermind behind the capture is Somalian warlord Sheikh Ragnar, "the big banana of Somalian piracy". While a huge ransom is on the agenda, there is a danger that all of the hostages may be slaughtered. Jake Grafton is assigned to negotiate with the Sheikh, while a team of CIA and Navy SEAL operatives, including his right-hand man Tommy Carmellini, mount an undercover operation to rescue the hostages. This is vintage Grafton and Carmellini with plenty of fast-paced military and CIA action.

Plague City

The story is fairly obvious by the title. It's about one city, ruled by a few different people, who have different agendas and ideas about how to handle the plague which is slowly destroying they're beloved city. It has a really cool ending and it's a great length. Just long enough that you get to know the characters, but not so long that you get bored or can't read it all in one sitting. I recommend it for fans of 28 Days Later (movie) or dystopian series like Divergent (it reminded me of this book because of the whole one city aspect).

Paradise Damned This book gave us the conclusion to Elise's battle with Him. But James and Elise didn't get their HEA... and honestly that kinda bummed me out. I was really, REALLY looking forward to that. In most books, the HEA is the conclusion and we never really get the chance to experience that happiness in the details of their lives (usually an epilogue at most). I was kind of hoping that in Alliance we would be seeing into that happiness of their daily lives. I'm a little sad to have to wait to see what's in store for James and Elise.

Our Man in Iraq Given the uncountable billions of words they have dedicated to the war in Iraq, it might be easy for Americans to think of it as belonging solely to them. Even its possession by the Iraqis can feel tenuous at times. So it is a refreshing reminder of the new global village to read a novel like Robert Perisic’s Our Man in Iraq, which studies the fighting in Baghdad from the distant shores of Croatia.

Once Upon the End (Half Upon a Time) OMG this book rocked. It has to be the best in the series! I could not put this book down!

MisMatch (A Humorous Contemporary Romance) This book allows one to understand why Jessica may have appeared as a misfit in the previous book and it allows the reader to take part in her evolution. This character's growth is amazing and hits home because the character is so transparent. It may remind us of someone we know in my case myself. I believe this is an excellent book and Ms. Malone has found the perfect match with this one! I strongly suggest this book if you are looking for something that will make you laugh, cheer for the good guy and pray there is another book so you can read about the other twin! Cheers Ms. Malone ...you did it again!!!!

Magpie Hall Highly recommended read treads the fine line between literary fiction and page-turner. I bought this (for Kindle) immediately after finishing The Sound of Butterflies (by the same author) both gripped me so completely that I could barely concentrate on anything else until they were finished. The most vivid and memorable books I have read lately.

Magic Zero In Timothy’s world, everyone has magical powers. Except him. He has spent his entire life as an outcast hidden on a remote island. When he is finally taken back to the city of his birth, Timothy is fascinated by the current of magic that fuels the world and mesmerized by the buildings and orbs that hang weightlessly in the sky. But he is also marked for death.

The Lost Fleet: Beyond the Frontier: Invincible After a relatively benign prior book(Dreadnaught), Jack Campbell returns to Lost Fleet mode. Sent to investigate aliens beyond human boundaries, John Geary does just that. He finds some races friendly and some not but in true Black Jack style, he negotiates all challenges in this well written sequel to his Lost Fleet novels only to find, on his return, that human space may turn out to be more challenging than the aliens.

Love In Darkness This time round the story was told from Alex's point of view, this was something I very much enjoyed but I would have liked to read a few parts from Madison's perspective because I often wondered what she was thinking. I learned more about Alex's mum and her schizophrenia which worryingly was beginning to affect Alex too. Mental health issues were such a big part of this story, it touched me deeply to read about the struggles facing the characters who were living with these illnesses and their families. It was very well written - I could almost feel Alex's emotions (especially during the worst of his terrifying episodes) jumping off the page at me.

Long Time Running The main question I think the story answers is How far would you go to protect a loved one even if it is the most unpopular decision? I found myself feeling one way then half way through Hannah showed me things aren't the way they seem. I love stories that have a twist and have you understand a character you didn't much care for in the beginning. Makes you think about real life and how you may make an opinion on something you thing you know but have no clue what the real truth is. Please publish more Hannah Foster!

Lockout

There is not a doubt in my mind Ms. Maya Cross is a brilliant writer and one of my all time favorite...Congratulations Ms. Cross, well done!

Itch: The Explosive Adventures of an Element Hunter Itch isn't very careful and his experiments tend to get him into trouble. A situation occurs at his school which lands many of his classmates in the hospital and a teacher. As the story progresses, Itch continues to run into danger. I mean, the kid has his own person named Cake that locates elements for him for cash (almost like a drug dealer), but Cake is a pretty cool character. I was a little sad about what happened to him. Overall, I liked Itch. He's a nerdy sort of kid who just loves what he loves. He doesn't entirely think of the consequences of his actions, but he is a good kid.

Igraine the Brave Igraine the Brave is the retelling of a Night's Tale with a twist. It's a delightful story filled with whimsy, magic and fantasy. The good are really good and the bad are evil. Courage and determination are celebrated and hope is never far away. Middle Readers will enjoy curling up with this book, and I think that it's a great book to read to the younger children.

Indexing For most people, the story of their lives is just that: the accumulation of time, encounters, and actions into a cohesive whole. But for an unfortunate few, that day-to-day existence is affected perhaps infected is a better word by memetic incursion: where narratives the rest of the world considers fairy tales becomes reality, often with disastrous results.

In Ashes Lie This is, first and foremost, a story about power: its uses and misuses. It becomes clear early in the novel that Lune has been changed by her years on the throne, by the tough decisions that a ruler must make. The events of _In Ashes Lie_ test her further, and there are a few questions always on Lune's mind and the reader's: When should justice be tempered by mercy? Should the fae meddle in mortal affairs, and if so, how? Can Lune avoid becoming as ruthless as her predecessor, Invidiana? Readers looking for romance will not find it here. If In Ashes Lie is a love story, it's a love story between Lune and her kingdom, and between her mortal friends and the city of London. It's a beautiful and touching story, too. It's just not what you may be expecting if you seek another Lune/Deven plotline.

Ice Shards Since this is such a good series, and contains very detailed connected stories, I would recommend starting at the first book and working your way through them. Even though there are only the three Sisters, that are the recurring main characters, there are new introductions in each story and challenges that they face, continuing and anew.

House of Secrets House of Secrets was a fantastic mix of adventure and suspense. Following along with the trio of siblings as they tried to make it out of their rather unfortunate situation was thrilling from beginning to end. We meet a wild card mix of characters that put the kids through the wringer with all sorts of challenges. They meet foes and friends from all walks of life as we try to figure out exactly what is going on and why these kids were thrown into this new world.

I Gave You My Heart, but You Sold It Online The identity theft mystery is not really a mystery at all and the murder isn't really a murder. We do see gender confused Eugene/Janine again who we met in the second book in the series. He/she has a history with Quint that is less then interesting. While I really liked Eugene/Janine in the last book he/she fell largely flat here. Even with all the criticisms I still found this book amusing and it is nice to get a glimpse of Debbie Sue and Edwina again. Too bad their husbands were largely MIA. There are some really funny elements in this book that I felt rated the four stars, the toy party for instance. These are the bits that keep me reading, the funny little pieces that make the book worth reading.

Harbinger of the Storm Aliette de Bodard has done it again. Harbinger of the Storm is an action packed Aztec mystery opera with magic, interventions from the gods and more twists and turns than the first book. It even has a love story with amusing snippets here and there, I love formidable women. The story is self contained and can be enjoyed standalone, but you will not want to miss out on the first.

Half Upon a Time This was a great read that left me anxious to see what the next book in the series brings. If you want a different take on the characters we already know, pick up this book.

Golden Boy The plot could easily devolve into melodrama and I credit the author's skill in avoiding that tempting trap. In secrecy lies the spawning of abuse and shame. The subject matter is something different, and that does attract a level of novelty. However I continue to find that the mundane and commonly shared aspects of this story are its strength. I

found the characters to be well developed, and felt empathy for most of them. I especially enjoyed Max and I think you will be glad to meet him while you ponder the world as it craves the nonexistent perfect person.

Goblin Secrets Evocative and poetic: this really is a special book. Highly recommended for kids (or the rest of us) who love anything to do with theater, magic, excitement, goblins, masks, or beautiful writing. A haunting story that sparks the imagination like those favorite fantasy novels you loved as a kid. This is the good stuff.

Front Page Fatality (A Nichelle Clarke Headlines in Heels Mystery) I loved this book and Nichelle. She's a funny, likable, well-rounded heroine who's tenacious and smart. She was a real person, with faults and hopes and humor. I enjoyed getting to know her. The secondary characters popped right off the page. And I never saw the end coming! It was a great mystery and I can't wait to read the next Nichelle Clarke book.

Fourth Day: A Charlie Fox Thriller This is a fast-paced and suspenseful novel, as Charlie, now 29 years old, is going through some difficult times, personally and professionally. She is nonetheless at the top of her game, and that is very good indeed. The plot races through to a stunning conclusion, which left me more anxious than ever to read the next installment in the series. Highly recommended.

Five Odd Honors Reaching The Lands Born from Smoke and Sacrifice seemed somewhat anticlimactic. Nothing much happens there until well into the book, but it's worth the wait. My favorite parts of the book are the ones centered on Brenda and her learning more about her maternal heritage and what comes along with it. I hope the next installment progresses her relationship with Flying Claw one way or the other.

Fearless: The King Series Book One So if you are interested in reading a light paranormal romance, this is definitely a good book for you. I say light paranormal just because there aren't any vampires, werewolves, or other shape shifters. That's not to say that there

won't be further along in the King Series, but this book does not contain them. It is strictly an empath and witchcraft. This is definitely a great book for your teenagers if they are into the paranormal.

Feral Anyone who wants a decent night sleep should not read FERAL. It is a frightening horror novel that needs broad daylight to somewhat keep the nightmares away. Brian Knight will appeal to fans of Bentley Little and those who like being scared out of their wits. This tale will accomplish that.

Eaarth: Making a Life on a Tough New Planet "Eaarth" is a book that should serve as a wake up call, but not in the same way that Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth" (book and/or movie) did. By being more Earth-shattering (pun intended), McKibben's book is also more realistic and contains more statistics and McKibben quotes more articles to back up his thesis. However, the book's revolutionary words might also be alienating and can be viewed as a source of despair. In his introduction, McKibben cautions us against this being the case by saying that "[m]aturity is not the opposite of hope it's what makes hope possible."

Desolation Road I am always a sucker for this structure of interlocking stories. (Another good example is The Orphan's Tales: In the Night Garden, by Catherynne M. Valente.) There is something about the pace and flow that I really enjoy. McDonald is also a good writer with solid craftsmanship. I engaged with the characters, and was interested in the fate of the town. I cannot exactly put my finger on how, but sometimes the plot felt a bit like much of a muchness. This was the only real flaw I can identify, but it kept me from loving the book instead of just liking it.

Darkin: A Journey East In one of the many magic realms that the good fantasy writers lure us into...I enjoyed it very much, recommended. Eager to read the next book.

Dark Craving Fueled by ancient magic and enflamed by human desire the Dragon King known as Hal can transform himself at will into one of the legendary winged creatures he is sworn to protect. But one thing he can never do is fall in love...with a mortal woman.

Crow's Revenge If you're into a thrill ride and like to maintain your imagination this is the book for you! The story is captivating in imagery and the main character, Charlie Keeper, is not of the status quo. You're rooting for Charlie all the way through and finding yourself in quite the dilemma trying to fast forward to learn her story. Her story is enjoyable from start to finish and sets up for a few more adventures to come. Drop a few dollars and enjoy something that puts your mind into a vivid, dangerous, and increasingly dark world.

Clockwork Mafia This was a great follow up to Badlands. There was action and destruction and a whole lot of heart. It was fun seeing the world from Henri's point of view this time around. I loved the banter (hostility) between Henri and Ever and their unexpected bonding (as much as is possible for the two of them). It was a fun read that I highly recommend. If you want an adventure with kick-ass women, clockworks, mafiosos, and little sexy, this one's for you.

Cat Trick: A Magical Cats Mystery This book was pretty good, but there was not real leads until close to the end of the book unlike the others. Even Herc and Owen really do not have anything to do, except drive the poor girl nuts. Still I love the series and I can not wait until the next installment. Pick it up if you truly enjoy the story.

Busted Busted is a short story featuring Will Trent, by popular American author, Karin Slaughter. While waiting to buy a frozen coke on his way to an undercover job in Macon, Will somehow gets involved in a situation that attracts town, county and state police as well as bringing down upon him the wrath of his boss Amanda. Slaughter manages to pack quite a bit into this one: a gas station hold-up, some motorcycle stunt riding, missing cash, a possible hostage situation and a very nasty old woman.

Breathe As someone who enjoys a good romance and tries to develop my yoga this was a wonderful book to read. Loved it from began to end. A wonderful book to read and you can never go wrong with a happy ending.

Bad Blood Violent murders occur in Paradise City as counterfeit comarre are systematically hunted. As war erupts at home, Malkolm and Chrysabelle head to New Orleans to recover the Ring of Sorrows. Forced to make a life and death decision, Chrysabelle will realize that her relationship to Malkolm may have fatal consequences.

Antiques Chop (Trash 'n' Treasures Mystery) This Trash 'n' Treasures mystery (see Antiques Knock-Off and Antiques Disposal) is an amusing whodunit as the third generation proves to be a Bourne with a nose for trouble. The jocular storyline is fun but the inserted directional commentary rather than wry humor distract from the plot. Still fans will enjoy this all in the family madcap antiques whodunit.

And the Mountains Echoed I do have to admit And The Mountains Echoed was not without its flaws for me. At times I felt the narrative was disjointed and while eventually Hosseini merges the threads of the splintered journey is not always an easy path to follow. Characters come and go and their importance, or their relationship to Abdullah and Pari, are not always clear.

A Star Shall Fall Marie Brennan does a good job of portraying the time period in which the novel is set. She works that time period's science into the plot in clever ways several theories that have since been debunked are presented as true, or partially true, or true-but-only-in-Faerie, in the world of the novel. The characters, too, are products of their time. Sometimes they express opinions that will sit uncomfortably with readers. Brennan doesn't write modern characters dressed up in period costumes, and I appreciate this even when it leads to a few moments of unease.

A Cold Season A dark and disturbing tale from a bold new voice in horror writing: After the battlefront death of her husband, a soldier, in the sands of the Middle East, a distraught Cass decides to move to the bucolic, picture-perfect village of Darnshaw with her teenaged son. Since Cass’s website design business can be run from anywhere with an internet connection and Ben could benefit from a change of scenery, a move to the highlands village seems like just the thing.

The Perfume Collector You can probably connect the dots of the plot by this description, and if you can't, you'll still figure out Grace's secret before she does. The novel deals with themes ranging from the conflict between genius and the society it must live in the sacrifices mothers make for their daughters, and the treatment of Jews in Nazi-occupied Paris. It also has intriguing things to say about the creation of perfume: scents being the "custodians of memory." I enjoyed the book, though at times it hopped from viewpoint to viewpoint without giving the reader any warning. It taught me something about scent creation and kept my interest until the last page.

The Main Cages The acclaimed first novel by one of Flamingo's most gifted young writers, author of 'The Bronski House' and 'The Spirit Wrestlers'. Philip Marsden's brilliant first novel is set in the 1930s, in the small Cornish fishing village of Polmayne. A newcomer to the village, Jack Sweeney, buys a boat and establishes himself as a fisherman, gradually winning the respect even of the village elders. But times are changing, and a new kind of visitor is beginning to appear in Polmayne. A bohemian colony of artists offends some sensibilities, while a hotel is opened to accommodate the summer tourists, and pleasure steamers mingle with the fishing boats in the harbour.

The Lessons Oxford life does not got on for ever, and after three years (and a dramatic incident on the last evening which will shape James' life for years thereafter) the little group disperses. James and Jess set up house together, but their contacts with the rest of the group becomes sporadic and marginal - and Mark disappears altogether for the next two years. But then, fatefully, he reappears in their lives. What follows is painful and we know the story is inexorably heading for tragedy and disaster.

The Dark Army (Keeper of the Realms) Another wonderful book with great characters, fantastic villains all set in an amazing world that keeps you thoroughly entertained from the first page to the end. This is also a much better written book than the first book (and I really liked the first one) the dialogue and detailed descriptions are definitely a cut above the previous novel which is great to see. My only gripe is now ill have to wait to see what happens next...

The Dr Pepper Prophecies

The one good thing in her life has always been her best friend Will, who has seen her through every crisis from lost toys to pregnancy scares. Now a successful accountant, he looks a prime catch to his girlfriend Natalie, who's determined to replace Mel as the woman in his life.

The Red Book The novel is very well-written and reminds me of old-time novels like Marjorie Morningstar by Herman Wouk and Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. The book is about the four characters: their lives, their interactions, their pasts, their present and their hopes and their aspirations. Every character is interesting and the book's narrative holds the reader's interest through-out. Besides the four primary characters, the book also brings in their partners, their children and old friends from college.

The Reawakening If you think Stephen King has a lock on Maine horror, you haven't strapped-in for the latest thrill ride from the state's best kept secret: Joseph Sousa. Travel with him as a pleasant family outing to an upstate farm quickly spirals into a descent into genetically-altered madness. Root for teenage Dar as she, her father and uncle battle an expanding army of the undead as they try to stay alive long enough to solve the mystery that's turned Vacationland into Damnationland. It's a tale told as only Sousa can, in all of its vicious, visceral, gory, glory.

Zoey Rogue (Incubatti Series) (Volume 1) So I have loved all of Lizzy's men because for one they are perfect! For two they are drop dead gorgeous and lastly they are jerks haha! But Declan takes the cake! He's beyond what I could have imagined and God is he amazing! He made the book so exciting! He made me realize that this book was going to be thrilling and more exciting than the rest! I am beyond stunned at how much he made this book shine! I don't do spoiler reviews so I'll stop there haha!

You Don't Want to Know You Don't Want to Know has many twists and turns, and the reader is compelled to keep turning the pages to discover who is behind the dastardly scheme. There are numerous sinister characters interwoven into the plot, many of which are Ava's own family. Once the climax hits and all the pieces start to fall into place, the reader and Ava discover the awful truth. But will it be what we anticipated or was the truth behind Noah's disappearance something that was best laid to rest?

You Never Called Me Princess I loved that this was a read that kept me interested the whole time. I finished the entire book in a matter of hours. I like it was written like you were reading a diary, but the problems/ story was truly heartfelt and real. I highly recommend it.

Woman King (Volume 1) I can't remember the last time I couldn't put a book down, but that's exactly what happened with Woman King. Perhaps it was the strong female character, perhaps it was the San Francisco setting, perhaps it was the steamy sections...whatever it was, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The combination of politics and a "secret society" pulled me in right away, I can't wait to read the second book in the trilogy.

Witch Hunt During her research Sadie experiences strange events and happenings that she cannot explain. The more involved she gets into her research and the more closer to the truth, it seems to be bringing her closer to a connection between herself and those brutally killed centuries ago. Sadie much search for the truth to find peace not only for the lost souls to witchcraft but for her own piece of mind.

Wolf at the Door WOLF AT THE DOOR occurs after UNDEAD AND UNDERMINED, BETSY TAYLOR and is a fun-filled romp of romance, murder and mayhem that only MaryJanice Davidson can write. Betsy and Sinclair are dealing with a pregnant Jessica and zombie Marc, Edward is confused and geeky cute, Rachael is trying to do the right thing even though her libido is telling her something else and the bodies just pile up but no one knows quite why. Brimming with spicy love scenes, hilarious smoothie moments, witty dialogue and memorable characters, WOLF AT THE DOOR is a wonderful addition to the Wyndam Werewolves and the Betsy Taylor series. I was thoroughly entertained!

Winterling Things here have gotten very bad. My girl, when you opened the Way, something happened. It has been weeks since you left, and spring has still not come. The rains continue, every day. Winter has been creeping back in. The river through town is flooding, and none of the farmers have been able to put in their crops.

Witch: A Summerland Mystery

When Vania moves from Australia to Summerland, California, the last thing she expects to feel is that she's come home. Maybe it's Summerland's unusual history - Vania is drawn to stories about magic and witchcraft and, as she discovers, the pretty coastal town was settled by Spiritualists.

Why Pick On Me? It is a story about a boy who gets unfairly picked on and in the end teaches us all a little lesson. Sachar is a gifted writer who remembers what it is really like to be a kid. A truly enjoyable book!

Will There is a lot of back story for Will's backsliding ways, and Boyd makes an honest attempt to portray the noise and joys of the boys. The narrative slows down about three-fourths of the way through, perhaps because of the over-reliance on long exchanges of dialog that don't seem to mesh with the mind set of the kids. Thumbs up for the high number of caring adults and some amount of compassion between friends thumb's down on the wearing dialog. Should you read "Will"? Yes, but don't let passages bog you down.

When Jesus Wept The other stories within this extraordinary book, the stories of the people whose lives intertwine, the sub-plots are BRILLIANT. The back story of the young couple who experience the miracle of the wine at their wedding is in itself spell binding, thrilling, heartbreaking and on the edge of your page kind of reading. I wanted to cheer as I read the outcome of their most unexpected conflict. Every sub plot is magnificently crafted and interwoven. And when they all come together it is as if you have journeyed right along with them, traveling in the same direction, reaching the same destination. I have never read a book so glorious.

White Vespa The elements of mystery, the sense of loss, the apprehension about certain characters and what they will do next...they sneak up and wrap their arms around you, tightly, almost in a stranglehold. All this while you are immersed in the smell and taste of wonderful Greek food and drink. And the setting is at once beautiful and breathtaking but also isolated and abandoned. Reading "White Vespa" was a journey I found rewarding and enjoyable. Thanks for the ride.

What's Left of Her: A Novella

What kind of mother walks away from her family? This is the question many readers asked after finishing Pieces of You, Book One of The Betrayed Trilogy. They wanted to know the real story behind the disappearance of Evie Burnes. What’s Left of Her offers an intimate glimpse into Evie Burnes’s life before her disappearance and after.

Vintage Soul A young vampire, Vein and a crow, Asmodeus, are just a few of the intriguing characters that inhabit the darker side of San Valencez. The occasionally cocky Donovan DeChance is charming and likable. The reader is lured into a world that is fluid, uncertain and ominous. Vintage Soul is a thrilling read, full of suspense and style.

Trafalgar Overall, a wonderful collection of rather magical sci-fi short stories. Gorodischer's writing is excellent (as is the clean translation), and the structure and style of this collection clearly set it apart from others of its ilk. Highly recommended!

Tiger the Lurp Dog I resently reread this book and it brought back great memmories. Not of Vietnam, but of the early '80s when I was in the 82d Airborne and me and my fellow Sp4s set around talking about all things hard core and airborne, such as this book. In jump school and in the division we heard stories of lurps and rangers but did not really know what they did. This was the first book to go into detail about the life of lurps, and in my opinion this book is better than the fictional lurp books that followed. The book's ending is a heartbreak but also suggests a sequel. Let's hope it happens sometimes. Airborne all the way Kenn.

The Warring States After the rout at Rasenna, Concord faces enemies on all fronts, and nobody believes that the last surviving Apprentice is equal to these crises - but Torbidda didn't become Apprentice by letting himself be manipulated. While Sofia is struggling to understand her miraculous pregnancy, the City of Towers grows wealthy. But it's not long before the people of Rasenna start arguing again, and as the city falls apart once more, Sofia realises she must escape Etruria to save her baby.

The Wrong Path

The Wrong Path is a wonderful novel brought to us by an amazing writer, and I will definitely be checking out more of her stuff in the future. If you're hearing anything I'm trying to tell you you're already looking into buying it. I can praise this book all day, but I'll stop gushing. It is truly amazing!

The Territory This is a great debut for Ms. Fields. She has characters that are believable and even the supporting issues and characters are three-dimensional. I feel like any one of them could have been an interesting side-trip. The thing that struck me most, though, is her voice. Her pace has some "air" in it. That makes it feel more southwest, as if the 100degree days require a stop and a sip while telling the tale.

The Serpent Sea (The Books of the Raksura) Moon, once a solitary wanderer, has become consort to Jade, sister queen of the Indigo Cloud court. Together, they travel with their people on a pair of flying ships in hopes of finding a new home for their colony. Moon finally feels like he's found a tribe where he belongs. But when the travelers reach the ancestral home of Indigo Cloud, shrouded within the trunk of a mountain-sized tree, they discover a blight infecting its core. Nearby they find the remains of the invaders who may be responsible, as well as evidence of a devastating theft. This discovery sends Moon and the hunters of Indigo Cloud on a quest for the heartstone of the tree - a quest that will lead them far away, across the Serpent Sea. In this followup to The Cloud Roads, Martha Wells returns with a world-spanning odyssey, a mystery that only provokes more questions - and the adventure of a lifetime.

The Secret Desires of a Soccer Mom This book was smart and funny, and I didn't predict "whodunit". It's a murder mystery, set in the suburbs where some of the wives have too much time on their hands and get themselves into trouble...hence the title. The protagonist, Paige Atwell, belongs to a tight-knit circle of friends in a fictitious Denver suburb, Aberdeen Mists. When one of the friends dies mysteriously in her garage, Paige knows something isn't right. Shortly before her death, the friend confided to Paige that she was having an affair. Paige is instantly suspicious of her friend's lover, Javier.

The Night Rainbow While I read the first 20 pages, I was afraid I might not like this story- because there seemed to be too many fruit descriptions- but I kept going, and I am so, so glad I did. What a find! A gorgeous story! I absolutely loved it!

The Real Werewives of Vampire County I enjoyed most of the book! I really wanted to read it for "Where Darkness Lives". The other stories were good enough to make me want to look up the authors and skim through other books they've written, except for "What's Yours is Mine" by Jess Haines. I'm not very good at describing myself but it was horrible! I was upset that it was the last story

in the book because after reading it I felt disappointed and empty...I would still recommend this book, just not the last story.

The Lucifer Sanction During the 14th century, the percentile reduction in the world's population due to the bubonic plague was around two hundred million people. Long ago scientists decoded the genome of the Black Death bacterium. Today's burgeoning population will result in too many mouths to feed by 2020. We quite simply cannot supply sufficient food for the 200,000 humans added to the planet daily. 2015 projections show an increase of five hundred thousand people each day, a world devoid of food supply and a human race driven to cannibalism for its survival.

The Killing Vision I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. For once, l had no inkling of the killer's identity until the very end. The mystery and suspense were crafted skillfully. The characters were quite believable and well-developed in the literary sense. This makes me want to read more of this author's work.

The Impossible Dead The Complaints: that's the name given to the Internal Affairs department who seek out dirty and compromised cops, the ones who've made deals with the devil. And sometimes The Complaints must travel. A major inquiry into a neighboring police force sees Malcolm Fox and his colleagues cast adrift, unsure of territory, protocol, or who they can trust. An entire station-house looks to have been compromised, but as Fox digs deeper he finds the trail leads him back in time to the suicide of a prominent politician and activist. There are secrets buried in the past, and reputations on the line. In his newest pulse-pounding thriller, Ian Rankin holds up a mirror to an age of fear and paranoia, and shows us something of our own lives reflected there.

The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer This is probably one of the best true crime books I've ever read. Anthony Bruno does a wonderful job of keeping the reader hooked, as he tells the stories of killer Richard Kuklinski and ATF agent Dominick Polifrone. Because he's telling both of their stories, it may seem like he bounces around a bit, but I think he did a wonderful job of keeping the points of view separate, and therefore reducing any potential confusion. If you like true crime stories, you won't be able to put this one down until you're finished.

The House at the End of Hope Street This book got me excited and truly invested. "The House at the End of Hope Street" is a magical house that houses a woman in her most desperate time. We follow three new residents to the house and we learn that they are not the first to ever reside there, nor will they be the last.

The Hole in the Middle Kate Hilton's story propelled me along breathlessly, as though I was living the fast-paced, office politics-laced life of Sophie Whelan. Any exhausted working mother who has ever picked up the last forlorn little creature in the daycare will be able to relate to Sophie's attempts to take care of all parts of her complicated have-it-all life. Into this mix is added one of my favourite dangerous ingredients: an old flame who has only to beckon, after all these years. The Hole in the Middle is a little bit of a fairy-tale, funny, heartwarming and touching. Thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end.

The Do Over I enjoyed this book. It was not as short as some of the books being put out and it felt like a complete story. However she definitely left room for a spin-off book about some of the other characters and their future relationships. She gave us multiple points of view so we could see what all of them were thinking and were feeling.

The Good Sister The author adds to Simone's personality bipolar, learned helplessness, narcissism, and provides a breeding ground for Simone's role. At the same time, Simone's older sister, Roxanne, takes on the caretaking role from a very early age. Co-dependency is threaded throughout the story by not only Roxanne but others from Simone's life and ancestral chain.

The Forever Gate - Part One The pace is fast, the action intense, and the writing is strong. Hoodwink is a very sympathetic character, and the author gives us just enough background to develop him a little more fully. There is a great balance between Hoodwink being hunted and fighting for survival and Hoodwink coming to grips with his inner demons that keeps the book interesting on a variety of levels.

The Dilemma of Charlotte Farrow

Overall, I loved The Dilemma of Charlotte Farrow and recommend it if you like historical romances. I don't think it's necessary to read The Pursuit of Lucy Banning first in order to enjoy this one, but doing so will ensure you'll know more fully what had happened earlier in the Bannings' lives. Great read!

Riptide (Star Wars) From start to finish, Riptide is an engaging journey that will suck you in and leave you spinning. If you liked Crosscurrent, you'll love Riptide. The pacing and focus of the tale surpasses it's predecessor. The story weaves characters and action, emotions and curiosity, to create a thoroughly enjoying book. On top of that, Riptide presents a lot of topics begging for discussion. One of Kemp's final plays in the novel is enough to haunt readers into the wee hours of the night.

The Carhullan Army Within the community of women there is a military unit, and late in the story the narrator joins this unit. The situation has changed in England and the lands and lifestyle of Carhullan are likely to be taken from the women. Jackie determines that the women must strike first and remove the Authority that threatens their freedom. The Carhullan Army will start the revolution that the urban dwellers, under the direct control of the Authority, are too subservient to bring about themselves.

Summerkin (Winterling) This book is the second in the Winterling series. The series will continue in Moonkind which is scheduled for a Jan 2014 release date. I enjoyed this book just as much as the first one, it was a wonderful middle grade fantasy involving fey. I would definitely recommend reading Winterling before reading this book.

Stolen More demands are made and John finds himself in a web of terror attempting to comply with those demands and trying to save lives threatened by the man tormenting him. He has to carry on in order that Ruby continues to receive her treatment or she will die, but lives a life trapped in the hands of what is really a serial killer in action. Characterizations of the people in the story are excellent and in keeping with Palmer's previous books. The ending is not telegraphed at any point but is logical and well thought out. Chalk up another winner for Daniel Palmer.

Spirit and Dust Daisy Goodnight can speak to the dead. It’s not the result of a head injury or some near-death experience. She was just born that way. And she’s really good at it. Good enough to help the police solve the occasional homicide. But helping the local authorities clear cold cases is one thing. Being whisked out of chemistry class by the FBI and flown to the scene of a murder/kidnapping in Minnesota? That’s the real deal. Before the promotion can go to Daisy’s head, she’s up to her neck in trouble. The spirits are talking, and they’re terrified. There’s a real living girl in danger. And when Daisy is kidnapped by a crime boss with no scruples about using magic and Daisy to get what he wants, it looks like hers is the next soul on the line.

Spellweaver (A Novel of the Nine Kingdoms) This story is complex. Anyone who loves epic fantasies with emotion, rich history and deep characters will enjoy this slow moving story. I was particularly interested to know more about Ruith's evil father, Gair, and can't wait for Ruith to begin using his powerful magic. I would also like to know more about the powerful and wise mage Soilleir and his past. He seems very similar to Gandalf's character in Lord of the Rings. And I would love to hear about his history and how he came into his powers or what will happen in his future.

Shrouded in Silence

While the suspense was high, the plot was quite implausible, requiring the reader to suspend belief and not ask the reasonable questions, like, why would anyone want to kill a pair of biblical scholars? The characters were thoroughly human and flawed - they could have used a little more fleshing out. Ultimately, I didn't care a whole lot about any of them. But, I did find the book interesting enough and the suspense high enough to hold my interest to the end.

Secrets of You (The Betrayed Trilogy) I loved being able to hear the back story of what happened to make Ash leave Arianna only days before their wedding. How trying to pick up the pieces made everyone not willing to trust anybody. A family torn by a decision and people unwilling to forgive and forget. It's sad that even after so many years Arianna could have reconciled with her family but her sister was to bitter with her own self to make amends. While Ash`s brother had to fight for his love because he made Ash second guess himself about his own life and his love for Arianna.

Shapeshifter SHAPESHIFTER contains adventure and romance, but will probably appeal most to people interested in mythology. If you aren't familiar with Irish mythology, SHAPESHIFTER is a good place to start. It doesn't ask you to come in familiar with the stories. SHAPESHIFTER is a little rough, but still good light entertainment. The language is easy enough for preteens, but there are oblique sexual references.

Scratchgravel Road: A Mystery The third installment in the series is due soon (in about a year?), and Fields has announced she's working on the fourth. Watch as Josie calls upon all her resources to keep Artemis safe, and Fields keeps her readers guessing as to what will happen next.

Red Moon The story is action packed and the author really knows how to keep you reading to find out what happens after a chapter's cliff hanger ending. Usually, in novels like this, there is an obvious good guy and bad guy. That isn't the case with this book. You are shown the good and bad in both sides so you understand why the characters act and react in the way that they do so it's hard to judge who's right or wrong in the big picture. My only criticim is that I felt like the story got a bit long winded in some spots and I would have liked to see a little more interaction between Patrick and Claire. Overall, though, this author has given us a good, intellectual thriller that includes werewolves. That is not something that can be said in the same sentence very often. I recommend it for fans of Straub and King.

Reckoning: A Strange Angels Novel The electric finale in New York Times bestselling author Lili St. Crow's Strange Angels series!

Nobody expected Dru Anderson to survive this long. Not Graves. Not Christophe. Not even Dru. She's battled killer zombies, jealous djamphirs, and bloodthirsty suckers straight out of her worst nightmares. But now that Dru has bloomed into a full-fledged svetocha rare, beautiful, and toxic to all vampires the worst is yet to come. Because getting out alive is going to cost more than she's ever imagined. And in the end, is survival really worth the sacrifice?

Ravishing Room Service Regina has buried herself in work to try and forget her wreck of a personal life. But sleeping alone isn't good for her, and soon her sex-starved body starts longing for a playmate. When Oliver comes to stay in the Heavenli Hotel where she manages the restaurant she's instantly drawn to him. She tries to be professional, but it seems that the attraction isn't all one-sided.

Passion Unleashed (Masquerade Part I) I was kept wanting more and, at the same time, happy with what I was getting. We are entertained by a series of climaxes, which turn out to be unsatisfied, and yet more is to come. We believe we will get there in the end, but what an arousing time along the way. Looking forward to more!

Passion Tempted (Masquerade Part II) I loved this story! This is the second book in the series and you are hooked right from the very beginning. Ms. Trent keeps you interested and keeps the reader turning the pages! I am looking forward to more in this series.

Off the Market Living in a small, religious community can be hard for any teenager, but it was especially hard on Paul Arnold. Paul had been a decent kid with two younger brothers, a loving mother, and an asshole abusive father. But Paul stayed and took the abuse until his youngest brother was old enough to get the hell out. And out they got, straight to the big city, swearing never to come back.

Living with the Dead The multiple points of view aren't entirely successful, the villian isn't entirely believable in her own voice (this would be an instance where distance would have been a better choice) and there are too many characters who tell rather than show. Finally, while I appreciate an author who can disorient me with unexpected but entirely plausible last minute characters, it works better if keeping the reader off balance is part of the complete reading experience rather than a one-off.

This is not a bad book at all, but any of the other Women of the Otherworld books would be a better entry point for this series.

Numbers: Book 1 As much as I loved this story so much, I didn't like the end at all. The whole book is about the span of one week and the end suddenly flashes forward about six years. The book was still really good, I just wish that it would have ended different. The fact that it was so different is what I liked about it the most. Most supernatural books have to do with witches, vampires or werewolves, but there are not too many books dealing with a teenager who can see the date of everyone's death. It is definitely a memorable read!

No Time for Heroes A diplomat’s murder reunites Cowley and Danilov in a global search for the killer There’s nothing surprising about the body. The wounds are precise, their meaning clear. The Washington, DC, cops have seen enough like them to know that they mean a mob hit. And when mobsters kill their own, there’s not much the police can do about it. They’re prepared to dismiss the case when someone looks at the dead man’s ID. He was Russian and a diplomat. William Cowley, the head of the FBI’s Russian office, takes on the case. A year earlier he had solved a strange killing with the help of Dimitri Danilov, a Russian cop with a sense of honor rare in the lawless, post-Communist world. Now they rejoin forces, embarking on an around-the-world search for the meaning of the diplomat’s death.

Nirvana Effect I would not like these comments to put anyone off from reading this book, because it was a great story and it was extremely well told and is well worth buying. I would not hesitate to buy something from this author again.

My Next Step: An Extraordinary Journey of Healing and Hope I've always admired Dave and consider him somewhat of a genius when it comes to business. He took a new idea (the 100% commission concept) and created a company that can now boast of locations all over the world. No one can question his tenacity when it comes to his business model, his race car driving or his attempt to circumnavigate the globe in a hot-air balloon. He is also known to be a bit stubborn at times.

Mr. Toppit One of the things I liked about this book is the humor, or should I say humour. Elton, a Brit, does a very good job of intermingling British and American humor in this story. There were quite a few laugh out loud moments. But it is the characters that make this story. They truly are sad, desperate people and Elton does a great job defining them.

Mind the Gap: A Novel of the Hidden Cities In what used to be a bomb shelter, she finds a storehouse of goods and foods. And a group of `lost children' and their `leader', who call themselves the United Kingdom. A group of thieves and pickpockets, these children rely upon these skills for their livelihoods. They take Jazz into their fold where all the paranoia her mother raised her with serves her and the United Kingdom well. Jasmine Downe's story is one any fan of young adult fantasy, sleight of hand magic, and intrigue is sure to enjoy.

Me and My Shadow Katie MacAlister has done it again. Her dragon books are great and this one is no different. The books are fun with characters that grow as you go along. If you want a fun read I recommend you start at the beginning of the series and enjoy the ride.

Maximum Witch The paranormal aspects are absolutely captivating, fun, and make the story come to magical life! Like I previously mentioned, Jodi took the readers from adventure on land to adventure in the ocean off the coast of Georgia. These contrasting settings allowed for different magical and shifter dynamics that were refreshing to watch unfold. Jodi's writing style makes for an easy read that combines moments of lightness and a little edginess.

Magnificence This is the first novel I have ever read that explores the world of taxidermy but I am certain that Lydia Millet is the only author I know who could pull it off and do so this effectively, with such humor, intelligence and prosaic style.

Love is Darkness: A Valerie Dearborn Novel I couldn't stop reading until I was done. Val is quirky and sassy and a strong woman. Very refreshing. The men are hot and very different from each other. And I love how the evil vampire Marion is written. She gives me goosebumps.

Lord of the Wolfyn (Harlequin Nocturne) Reda magically finds herself in the realm of Wolfyn and is terrified. She read the REAL story about Lil Red Riding Hood and saw how the wolf/wolfyn had enthralled her and seduced her until ultimately killing her when he was bored. So of course she is petrified that she will end up just as Red did. However, she finds herself being saved by a prince, Prince Dayne to be exact and has no idea that he isn't human. So far all three stories have ended with the siblings ending up in Elden. Up next is Lord of the Abyss which follows the story of Micah and I cannot wait how everything pans out.

Living Dangerously (Adrenaline Highs) Julie Fraser, Hollywood's newest "it" girl, arrives on the red carpet to more than just the flashes of the paparazzi's cameras. A sniper's shots leave her bleeding and in the line of fire. Her life would be over if it weren't for the bodyguard who comes to the rescue taking a bullet in the process.

Little, Big It may not sound like much (and there really is a lot more to it than my extremely brief synopsis), but John Crowley's superb and gorgeous writing just sweeps you along. There are all kinds of odd digressions and even odder characters (including the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick Barbarossa and Grandfather Trout). Many times I found myself paging back through the book looking for small references that I half-remembered which came up again with greater significance many pages later. The last 50 pages or so (as the Tale reaches its conclusion) are simply heartwrenching as the Tale (and the novel) reaches its conclusion.

Like This for Ever I really enjoy this writers books. They are well written and there is never a lull in the action and the location are well described...

Kris Longknife: Daring I read this in one day. There is lots of action, but it also has good character development. I preordered this as I knew the series was good. You leave the book knowing you want the next one.

Lie by Moonlight Ambrose's mentor John Stoner returns late in the book and has his own thoughts on the relationship between Concordia and Ambrose. He is a delightful character and I quickly checked to be sure he was the Vanza student who was saved and sent to the island to study by Edison Stokes in I THEE WED. This is typical Amanda Quick and it is wonderful. I loved it. I read it in one sitting.

Legacy (The Niteclif Evolutions) Luckily, she gets a super-sexy dragon shifter, Bahlin, to help her out, as not only is she completely new to the job, but being hunted as well. Both him and Maddy are fiery characters, and when their flames collided, it brought out the realness in their relationship even more. With the obstacles before them ranging from mystery to murders, the sparks of conflict that arise gives their love a trial by fire. My most favorite aspect of this book, next to the romance, was how there is a lot of Sherlock Holmes intertwined into the story line, leaving me looking for all the hints to Maddy's family tree, and the abilities she inherited. This was a very enjoyable, sexy read and I look forward to reading the next book of the series.

John Gone (The Diaspora Trilogy) There certainly are a few rough spots, but they rarely slow things down. The first chapter in particular seemed almost manic in pacing, with the central plot device being introduced before we almost know the character or the setting. But after that, it hardly matters and everything flows at a page-turning clip. Especially for being a self-produced ebook, this kind of quality is almost unheard of.

Killer Sweet Tooth: A Daphne Martin Cake Mystery The latest Daphne Martin mystery (see Dead Pan) is a Killer Sweet Tooth cozy as the police lack proof but the only suspects know they are under surveillance and the town thinks they are not the killers. This is a fun puzzler with an EIEIO member who may be the killer or perhaps the townsfolk with grudges against the late dentist. Maya and Daphne are different generations, but share common traits and each knows the other has their respective back. Gayle Trent has written a charming amateur sleuth.

Jungle Kill (Black Ops) I think this book is well suited to the young adult crowd. The book was not bad, but in a way I felt like I was reading the storyline for a thirty minute TV episode. I gave it four stars because it has some errors and omissions. I don't think that other adult readers will feel much differently about this one than I do.

Jack's Widow I loved the whole book from the great pink cover to the last page. Fabulously interesting facts interwoven with "what ifs". Jackie pops off the page in a new dimension with twists. Once I started it couldn't put it down because of the fascination of Jackie the woman and the Jackie who belonged to the world of political secrets. I loved Jackie and I love this book. You won't be disappointed....

Inheritance Love this author, very hard to put one of her books down once started. Always a good story line and deals with everyday happening in the lives of the people she writes about.

If I Tell In addition to all this, there's also some romance, a near rape situation, Jaz's lesbian friend and her own difficulties, mean girls, postpartum depression, coffee shops and guitar playing. There's something for everyone! Overall, I really loved this book. There were times when I honestly forgot that an adult wrote this book. I truly felt like I was in Jaz's world as if I was reading her diary or seeing things through her eyes. Gurtler handles her situation with class and authenticity. I really enjoy her writing style as it is engaging and thought provoking. If you are searching for more contemporary YA books, I highly recommend her books. The problem now is that I want more and will have to wait. This book is just tops. HIGHLY recommended.

Hunt for White Gold Sold by his father for four guineas, Patrick Devlin was working as a servant to Royal Navy Captain John Coxon when he was catpured by pirates. Now, Devlin has himself become one of the most feared pirates in the world - and Coxon his most bitter foe. But in this thrilling new historical adventure it is not gold that Devlin is chasing, but something even more valuable. The early 18th Century is obsessed with the flavours of the New World - coffee and chocolate. And only one material enables the kings, queens and rising middle classes of Europe to drink without burning their fingers on the handles of their cups - Chinese porcelain. In a brilliant conspiracy story reaching from the unknown empires of the East to the restless new colonies of America, a letter has gone missing. In the letter lies the formula for the manufacture of Chinese porcelain, and whoever can find the letter can name his price - and even change the course of history, by enriching the nation that owns the secret. Valentim Mendes, a Portugese noble who has crossed swords with Devlin before, now seeks to blackmail him into finding the letter. And wherever Devlin goes, his nemesis Coxon is never far behind.

Hurricanes in Paradise This book was pretty good. It wasn't bad, but not awesome so it was worth reading. I liked the dynamic characters and even laughed out loud a few times at the outgoing Winnie.

How We Play the Game in Salt Lake and Other Stories HOW WE PLAY THE GAME IN SALT LAKE is a jewel of a short story collection. Bell's style is unfailingly spare, elegant and understated. His subjects range from paleontology and genetic engineering to AIDS, the global economy and domestic violence. His characters cover a vast territory stretching from Africa and Siberia, to the slums and condos and paleontology digs of the American West. And, as always, Bell's work is subtle, thoughtful, and extraordinarily big-hearted.

Horror Stories I enjoyed this collection of horror stories. Some of the stories verged more into the territory of "torture porn" than classic horror, but were enjoyable nonetheless. The Santa Claus story was incredibly clever and definitely worth a read. It does appear, however, that the book was rushed. There's a couple of typos and grammatical errors. At one point, it appears that a note from a reviewer or editor still remains in the story. I think if the copy were cleaned up a bit, I'd give the book another half a star.

Hold Still I really can't say enough wonderful things about this book. I won't give any more of the story away because there's plenty more to talk about. I wasn't able to put it down once I started and I'm all the better for finishing this beautiful novel. Pick it up and let Caitlin's rebirth inspire you, too!

Holly Lane: A Destiny Novel Santa Claus is having trouble fulfilling everyone's wish list this year. Santa may have an easier time getting a reindeer in your backyard than Sue Ann to open her eyes to Adam's intentions. What Adam has to show Sue Ann besides love is that you do not have to be the perfect couple to have the perfect relationship and play some reindeer games. This great addition to the Destiny series proves Toni Blake knows how to keep the characters fresh, and the storyline exciting. Ms. Blake weaves a new story in with the previous ones showing the reader the variety of romance available.

Hollowland Remy's character is strong, physically and emotionally despite her gruff exterior and some of the harder choices and decisions she's forced to make, she is still vulnerable and compassionate. She has one main goal: Find Max! She'll risk anything to find him. All of the main characters are believable and realistic I've grown to care for them all. Their group dynamic is perfect and adds so much depth to the story. This is one fantastic read.

High-Opp Frank Herber has been gone for a long time, but reading this book was entertaining and refreshing. I wish more of these unpublished books would pop up. It doesn't feel as complex or as developed as some of his other publications. But it was a good read non the less.

Here Be Monsters - An Anthology of Monster Tales From M.T.Murphy's twisted tale of blackmail to Sara Reinke's genuinely frightening yarn of soul sucking creatures each story is a real gem. What makes this book of horror stand apart from others of the genre is it's originality each story stands apart from its neighbour in both style and content.

Although I enjoyed each and every tale, I especially liked S.M Reine's 'Something wrong' for its simplistic, yet elegant prose, and Jeremy C. Shipp's weird and totally unexpected 'Figs'.

Hell's Fire A retelling of the classic saga of the mutiny on the Bounty, from master of suspense Brian Freemantle On April 28, 1789, the H.M.S. Bounty was very far from home. After a long journey around the Cape of Good Hope, Captain William Bligh and his crew emerged into the hot, still air of the South Pacific, and a kind of madness began to take hold. Led by Fletcher Christian, eighteen unhappy sailors set upon Bligh in the night, and at sword-point forced him and his officers into a small rowboat, to try their luck upon the open sea. But why? Although it is history’s most famous mutiny, the events leading up to Christian’s fateful decision are shrouded in mystery. In this thrilling account, master espionage author Brian Freemantle imagines what might have influenced a loyal sailor to turn mutineer.

Hera (Elei's Chronicles) Hera, member of the Gultur race governing the Seven Islands, thought she knew right from wrong and what her future held in store. A chance meeting with a lesser mortal, though, will turn her world upside down and force her to see her race and the laws with different eyes. For Hera, knowledge means action, so she sets out to put things right and change her world.

Taking place in the World of the Seven Islands almost three years before the events in Rex Rising, this is the story of Hera’s first confrontation with the truth.

Goodbye to Berlin The passive prose style is a perfect foil for this decadent era in Weimar Germany. The people Isherwood describes are often selfish and feckless, but always bursting with humanity. The book concludes with a description of Jewish shop owners suffering increasing intimidation for Nazi bully boys. The back end of that famous camera sentence: 'one day this will have to be recorded and fixed'. Well now that period is fixed in history. We know what all this decadence ran into. For that, Goodbye to Berlin makes very poignant and powerful reading.

Gideon's Angel Gideon’s Angel is an exciting and compelling debut. Beal shows a deft hand at mixing historical fact with fantasy and mimicking the period’s language without becoming incomprehensible to modern readers. I really enjoyed the resolution of the novel and the choices Treadwell makes for his future. While Gideon’s Angel is a story complete in and of itself, Treadwell’s choices and profession leave an opening for more tales of his adventures and I would love to spend more time with him. If you enjoy historical fantasy such as the work of Anne Lyle, you definitely shouldn’t miss Gideon’s Angel.

Game On Clara Bean, Europe's most respected restaurant critic, lands on American soil to do a promotional tour with a sports icon. But how will she keep her career-ending secret from her deliciously handsome new partner? She quickly learns that all games have rules, even falling in love.

Frankie's Letter Frankie's Letter is not a battlefield novel, but rather, a spy novel about Anthony Brooke, a young Englishman who had studied in Germany before the war and passed himself off as a native German as a student prank, but when war came used the skill in deadly seriousness serving the English intelligence service. The tables are turned when Anthony discovers that there is a German spy doing the same thing in England, passing himself off as an English gentleman. The action moves swiftly from Germany to London to the English countryside, but in the background of everyone's mind are the all-too-real horrors of the mud-clogged trenches.

Furious Rather than putting if off until the end I'm just going to go ahead and get it over with right from the start. This book was so much fun to read! High school, jerky bullies, three angry girls, and a mysterious friend named Ambrosia pretty much sets the stage for a great young adult reading experience.

Faithful I really appreciated this book. Though I am not in the life stage of any of these women I can relate to the sentiment of wondering where God is at and whether or not he will be as faithful as he has promised to be. Furthermore, Tate captures church culture spot on: the humor, the terminology, even the hypocrites. It didn't feel fake, like people running around on pristine beaches. It felt like something my friends could be experiencing.

Exposure Uniquely awesome! The whole book is just one big tease after another. Think of erotica without the completion and with an actual storyline. Sometime, erotica can get a little cringe worthy with its dialogue and plot.

Exit Kingdom The Reapers are the Angels really caught my attention. The way Bell writes made me want to read it faster and slower at the same time. Faster because I wanted to see where the story went next and slower because I wanted the book to last longer. Exit Kingdom is such a great book! I want more stories of the Todd brothers.

Down a Lost Road This book had me captivated from beginning to end. In a world where sci/fi and paranormal books are getting stale, J. Leigh Bralick managed to create a whole new world that is intriguing and alive!

Cherished What I can say is that I highly recommend that you read both "Faithful" and "Cherished." They have the ability to be life-altering in a very healing and hopeful way. You'll find yourself benefiting from them and also wanting to share them with friends.

Come Closer An aura of menace gathers around narrator Amanda as strange mood swings and irritating tapping-thumping noises in the walls begin to disrupt her happily married life. Small things gather momentum. She begins fighting with her husband, resumes smoking, goes out drinking after work. The imaginary playmate from her childhood returns. It's quite some time before she realizes the seductive, insistent third voice inside her head (after the initial voice of temptation, and after the sober rejoinder of the voice of reason and resistance) isn`t her own. Or is it?

Cape Cod Noir This collection of stories takes the reader into the shadowlands behind the dunes, back in history, up dirt roads into stands of pine. There is a creepy underworld on Cape Cod, where death is incidental and misunderstandings lead to revenge. This is not a book for tourists! But it is a book for lovers of noir!

Blackjack Wayward Wayward picks up right where villan left off. That in itself is one of the big issues that i had with the book. The beginning, id say the first fifth of the book, is frustrating and i kind of wish it was not there. It serves a purpose but it was drawn out and i cant say much about it because that would ruin a good portion of the book.

Bad Monkeys The novel opens in the psychiatric ward of the Clark County Detention Center (Las Vegas, NV). Accused murder Jane Charlotte explains to her psychiatrist that her alleged crime was authorized by a covert organization dedicated to crime prevention. Jane was an operative in the Department for the Final Disposition of Irredeemable Persons ("Bad Monkeys"), regularly dispatched to eliminated evildoers who eluded the justice system. Her life story revolves around this organization and its departments of Ubiquitous Intermittent Surveillance (Panopticon), Optimal Utilization of Resources and Personnel (Cost-Benefits), internal affairs (Malfeasance), and The Scary Clowns. She tells her story from childhood to date as her psychiatrist gently points out inconsistencies between her version and the official record.

Away (The Line, Book 2) Teri Hall packs a lot of action in this sequel to The Line. Away is constantly shifting viewpoints and settings to propel this suspenseful read forward. There's a lot of angst going on in the beginning as Rachel, desperate for a link to the mother she just left, pursues any news of her father, and Vivian struggles to deal with Rachel's departure and the stress of the Enforcement Officers putting the Property under scrutiny. There are some very interesting new characters introduced, with varied and even dangerous "gifts" that border on the supernatural. Some just are understandably upset and angry at the Unified States, and by extension, Rachel, so emotions tend to run high throughout the story.

Already Gone Most books tend to have a character or style that reminds me of another character or author. Not this one: it's one of those rare books that's truly innovative and unique. It's absolutely brilliant, easily in the top three of about 100 books I've read in the past year. I'd highly recommend this to just about anybody!

Alexandria From beginning to end the thread of Jack's and Lia's love is woven into the tale. Although it is central to the plot, there are so many other pieces that make up the storyline so that the love story is just one more juxtaposition to the rest of the action. Unlike so many post apocalyptic novels, this story has ain interesting beginning, a full and active plot, and an ending that provides full resolution. So many writers are using the multi book series format now and many books

end with a lack of resolution. Not so here. This author allows you to finish your read with the satisfaction that you know the ending to his story.

A Novel Way to Die (A Black Cat Bookshop Mystery) This series really does have it all: bookstore, cats, likeable, relatable characters and a strong mystery. I liked the new introduction of Robert, the goth part-time clerk at the bookstore, who is handpicked by Hamlet himself, and I'm definitely look forward to what kind of path of mystery and mayhem Ali Brandon is going to take the reader on next.

A Trick I Learned from Dead Men Kitty Aldridge is a wonderful writer! I loved the mood and tone of this book. it is a smart and original story.

You will never doubt again. Your life will be enriched far beyond what you could have ever imagined and you will have author Allen Anderson to thank for it.

The Sangamo Frontier: History and Archaeology in the Shadow of Lincoln Published: 2006-11-15 | ISBN: 0226514242, 0226514250 | PDF | 362 pages | 4 MB When Abraham Lincoln moved to Illinois’ Sangamo Country in 1831, he found a pioneer community transforming from a cluster of log houses along an ancient trail to a community of new towns and state roads. But two of the towns vanished in a matter of years, and many of the activities and lifestyles that shaped them were almost entirely forgotten. In The Sangamo Frontier, archaeologist Robert Mazrim unearths the buried history of this early American community, breathing new life into a region that still rests in Lincoln’s shadow. Named after a shallow river that cuts through the prairies of central Illinois, the Sangamo Country—an area that now encompasses the capital city of Springfield and present-day Sangamon County—was first colonized after the War of 1812. For the past fifteen years, Mazrim has conducted dozens of excavations there, digging up pieces of pioneer life, from hand-forged iron and locally made crockery to pewter spoons and Staffordshire teacups. And here, in beautifully illustrated stories of each dig, he shows how each of these small artifacts can teach us something about the lifestyles of people who lived on the frontier nearly two hundred years ago. Allowing us to see past the changed modern landscape and the clichés of pioneer history, Mazrim deftly uses his findings to portray the homes, farms, taverns, and pottery shops where Lincoln’s neighbors once lived and worked. Drawing readers into the thrill of discovery, The Sangamo Frontier inaugurates a new kind of archaeological history

that both enhances and challenges our written history. It imbues today’s landscape with an authentic ghostliness that will reawaken the curiosity of anyone interested in the forgotten people and places that helped shape our nation.

A Cabinet of Roman Curiosities: Strange Tales and Surprising Facts from the World's Greatest Empire

Published: 2010-06-01 | ISBN: 0195393759 | PDF | 272 pages | 5 MB Here is a whimsical and captivating collection of odd facts, strange beliefs, outlandish opinions, and other highly amusing trivia of the ancient Romans. We tend to think of the Romans as a pragmatic people with a ruthlessly efficient army, an exemplary legal system, and a precise and elegant language. A Cabinet of Roman Curiosities shows that the Romans were equally capable of bizarre superstitions, logic-defying customs, and often hilariously derisive views of their fellow Romans and non-Romans. Classicist J. C. McKeown has organized the entries in this entertaining volume around major themes--The Army, Women, Religion and Superstition, Family Life, Medicine, Slaves, Spectacles--allowing for quick browsing or more deliberate consumption. Among the book's many gems are: · Romans on urban living: The satirist Juvenal lists "fires, falling buildings, and poets reciting in August as hazards to life in Rome." · On enhanced interrogation: "If we are obliged to take evidence from an arena-fighter or some other such person, his testimony is not to be believed unless given under torture." (Justinian) · On dreams: Dreaming of eating books "foretells advantage to teachers, lecturers, and anyone who earns his livelihood from books, but for everyone else it means sudden death" · On food: "When people unwittingly eat human flesh, served by unscrupulous restaurant owners and other such people, the similarity to pork is often noted." (Galen) · On marriage: In ancient Rome a marriage could be arranged even when the parties were absent, so long as they knew of the arrangement, "or agreed to it subsequently." · On health care: Pliny caustically described medical bills as a "down payment on death," and Martial quipped that "Diaulus used to be a doctor, now he's a mortician. He does as a mortician what he did as a doctor." For anyone seeking an inglorious glimpse at the underside of the greatest empire in history, A Cabinet of Roman Curiosities offers endless delights.

There are plenty of books that tell the reader how to install trim around windows and doors, but few that also explain how architectural trim can enhance a room's aesthetic appeal. Trimwork shows readers how to decorate their homes with trim and wall panels so that their walls, passageways, and stairways can radiate the warmth, character, and beauty of the well-trimmed homes of eras gone by.

The Flipside of Feminism: What Conservative Women Know - and Men Can't Say Published: 2011-03-15 | ISBN: 1935071270 | PDF | 226 pages | 3 MB What if everything you've been told about women in America is wrong? What if what your college professors taught you - along with television, movies, books, magazine articles, and even news reports - have all been lies or distortions? Since the 1960s, American feminists have set themselves up as the arbiters of all things female. Their policies have dominated the social and political landscape. The "spin sisters" in the media (aptly named by Myrna Blyth in her book of the same name) and their cohorts in academia are committed feminists. Consequently, everything Americans know -- or think they know -- about marriage, kids, sex, education, politics, gender roles, and work/family balance, has been filtered through a left-wing lens. But what if conservative women are in the best position to empower American women? Forty years have passed since the so-called women's movement claimed to liberate women from preconceived notions of what it means to be female -- and the results are in. The latest statistics from the National Bureau of Economic Research show that as women have gained more freedom, more education, and more power, they have

become less happy. Enough, say Suzanne Venker, an emerging young author, and veteran warrior Phyllis Schlafly. It's time to liberate America from feminism's dead-end road. Cast off the ideology that preaches faux empowerment and liberation from men and marriage. While modern women enjoy unprecedented freedom and opportunities, Venker and Schlafly argue that this progress is not the result of feminism. Women's progress has been a natural evolution - due in large part to men's contributions. American men are not a patriarchal bunch, as feminists claim. They have, in fact, aided women's progress. And like women, they have been just as harmed by the feminist movement. In The Flipside of Feminism, Venker and Schlafly provide readers with a new view of women in America -- one that runs counter to what Americans have been besieged with for decades. Their book demonstrates that conservative women are, in fact, the most liberated women in America and the folks to whom young people should be turning for advice. Their confident and rational approach to the battle of the sexes is precisely what America needs. The authors advocate a common-sense approach to the issue of marriage and motherhood. Rather than belabor the tired notion of balance, they provide a step-by-step guide for how women can embrace their maternal desire, maintain strong marriages and also carve out a life of their own. The answer lies in a concept known as sequencing.

A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President ISBN: 0375502955 | 2000 | EPUB | 448 pages | 2 MB In A Vast Conspiracy, the best-selling author of The Run of His Life casts an insightful, unbiased eye over the most extraordinary public saga of our time -- the Clinton sex scandals. A superlative journalist known for the skillfulness of his investigating and the power of his writing, Jeffrey Toobin tells the unlikely story of the events that began over doughnuts in a Little Rock hotel and ended on the floor of the United States Senate, with only the second vote on Presidential removal in American history. This is an entirely fresh look at the scandal that very nearly brought down a president. Packed with news-making disclosures and secret documents published here for the first time, Toobin unravels the three strands of a national scandal - those leading from Paula Jones, Kenneth Starr, and Monica Lewinsky - that created a legal, personal, and political disaster for Bill Clinton. A Vast Conspiracy is written with the narrative drive of a sensational (if improbable) legal thriller, and Toobin brilliantly explores the high principle and low comedy that were the hallmarks of the story. From Tripp to Goldberg, Isikoff to Hyde, the complex and tangled motivations behind the scandal are laid bare. While misguided, outlandish behavior was played out at the very highest level, Toobin analyzes the facts and the key figures with a level of dignity and insight that this story has not yet received. The Clinton scandals will shape forever how we think about the signature issues of our day -- sex and sexual harassment, privacy and perjury, civil rights, and, yes, cigars. Toobin's book will shape forever how we think about the Clinton scandals.

Once Upon a Time in War: The 99th Division in World War II ISBN: 0806139463 | 2008 | EPUB| 376 pages | 2 MB For the soldier on the front lines of World War II, a lifetime of terror and suffering could be crammed into a few horrific hours of combat. This was especially true for members of the 99th Infantry Division who repelled the Germans in the Battle of the Bulge and engaged in some of the most dramatic, hard-fought actions of the war. Once Upon a Time in War presents a stirring view of combat from the perspective of the common soldier. Author Robert E. Humphrey personally retraced the path of the 99th through Belgium and Germany and conducted extensive interviews with more than three hundred surviving veterans. When Humphrey discovered that many 99ers had gone to their graves without telling their stories, he set about to honor their service and coax recollections from survivors. The memories recounted here, many of them painful and long repressed, are remarkable for their clarity. These narratives, seamlessly woven to create a collective biography, offer a gritty reenactment of World War II from the enlisted man’s point of view. Although focused on a single division, Once Upon a Time in War captures the experiences of all American GIs who fought in Europe. For readers captivated by Band of Brothers, this book offers an often tragic, sometimes heartwarming, but always compelling read.
