Corsets and Clockwork: 13 Steampunk Romances My favorite steampunk stories are ones in which there is still a historical feel but the technology adds a twist to turn the familiar into something different - and I don't mind if there is a bit of magic thrown into the mix as well -add a touch of romance and I am good to go...
This collection gets off to a slow start and I was a bit disappointed that in the first few stories the steampunk was mostly incidental. But once the the boiler was finally stoked, it was full steam ahead - or at least enough steam to keep things rolling along.
Devilishly Hot Devilishly Hot is a nice change from the standard paranormal romances out there. It is a novel filled with hellish plots, twisty turns, and a dog. This is an original story and pleasantly entertaining. There were a few nice surprises and the characters were rather unique. If you enjoy Ms. Love's other novels you will likely enjoy Devilishly Hot too.
Devilishly Sexy The second Devilishly lighthearted romantic fantasy (see Devilishly Hot) is a humorous affair as the protagonists try to hide a deep respective secret from their potential lover. Michael's dilemma of falling in love with a human who possesses a demon goes against his nature of killing including the host. Although the exorbitant use of outdated 1970s lexicon becomes distracting, fans will enjoy Kathy Love's fast-paced paranormal.
Last to Die: A Rizzoli & Isles Novel Always an amazing book to read. Never miss one by this author! Wish she could write even more often! Can't wait for the next one.
Night of the Jaguar I read Gruber's first supernatural thriller earlier this month and eagerly sought out all his other books. Imagine my surprise when I found out that NIGHT OF THE JAGUAR was being published this very month! And that it completed a trilogy of supernatural thrillers with Miami detective Iago "Jimmy" Paz. Well, I got my copy as soon as possible and I must say that it doesn't come close in the thrills provided in his first outing TROPIC OF NIGHT (a truly frightening book that presents African sorcery as something impressively real). BUT! NIGHT OF JAGUAR is far more entertaining (often very funny!) as fiction. The scenes with Professor Cooksey and Jenny are my favorites. It's wonderful to read of characters who are so human and decent. I get tired of all the formulaic and stereotyped characters who usually populate this genre. But really the reason to read these extremely intelligent thrillers is to absorb all sides of the philosophical arguments Gruber presents as his intellectual characters match wits and lecture each other on topics such as theology, anthropology, folklore, physics, environmental politics, and...well you name it and you'll probably find it one of his three books. These are well worth your time if you love smartly written, imaginative mysteries that include the truly mysterious, the weird, and the often unfathomable.

Secret Story This is a terrific crime thriller that showcases in cleverly restrained ways how Ramsey Campbell believes what the author's obligation is to his reader, his cast especially the lead character and to him or herself. Dudley keeps the tale together as a psychopath willing to exploit the avarice of the film and publications industries while symbiotically, the film director and the magazine editor are willing to exploit Dudley as they do not want to know the truth. The shock to SECRET STORY is the seemingly mundane mutual exploitation of the lead characters that leads to a great behind the scenes thriller.
Solomon Kane The novel is fun, but it's not funny or light-hearted or campy, though Campbell does seem to get stuck with what seem to be a couple of campy, Bondian missteps from the original screenplay. The worst of these comes when a necromancer says 'How do you like what I've done to the place?' to Kane as Kane regards with horror what the necromancer has done to his ancestral home. Augh! This is what Michael Moorcock and James Cawthorn flagged as "deadly jolite" in their study of fantasy, Wizardry and Wild Romance, a terrible linguistic bleedover from the Bond films.
Tropic of Night There are just a ton of surprising, bizarre, truly hair-raising moments. There is the ghostly, carnal visit in Siberia the ritualistic Miami murders the scary, shocking Santeria ritual and the entire, nightmare African journey. Suffice to say, the book is very engrossing. And loaded with detail, too. As mentioned, the author is very knowledgeable, and there was a lot of stuff having to do with both contemporary and historical Africa which I found fascinating. The detective story is a little more conventional but done very well, particularly the sardonic, witty dialogue between the two lead guys which is dead-on and often hilarious. Look, I don't blame you if you're a little skeptical. I was too. But good writing is good writing, no matter what the genre, and this novel is loaded with it. Fun, entertaining, and rich in detail, the novel is a real blast.
With Open Eyes: An Original Short Story When Janet Sanders, Kendra's former teacher at a school for the visually impaired, approaches Kendra with a strange story of her fiance's mysterious disappearance, Kendra was obliged to help her. The police weren't talking about the case, but Kendra had friends in high places who might help. Her perseverance put her and Janet in danger, but Janet wanted her man back, and Kendra wouldn't rest until the case of the missing fiance was solved.
A Bloody Storm: A Derrick Storm Short I have enjoyed the book and the previous two short stories but I think I would rather have the entire story at one time. I enjoy the Castle books as well as the show but would love to get the rest of this book at one time and more Storm books in the future.

A Brewing Storm: A Derrick Storm Short Some readers take offense to a book being serialized. It used to be common practice for upcoming books to be serialized in magazines such as Look, but then I'm old enough to remember that. Regardless, I liked the story-line and look forward to the next episode.
A Raging Storm: A Derrick Storm Short Storm, is much more experienced than his colleague in this game, but that will not prove enough to help them avoid new and serious trouble. The two of them will come time and again face to face with double agents, expert assassins and traitors, and at the end of the day they'll just try to save whatever can be saved from what seems to be an unavoidable wreck.
Baited Taking And Then There Were None and placing it in a different milieu makes for a strong romantic suspense thriller that will have the audience along with the lead couple speculating just who the killer is. The action starts from the shipwreck and never lets up until the final confrontation. Will and Kat are a fine pairing though she has doubts because she believes he is a philanderer and thus untrustworthy at a time in which to survive they must depend and trust one another. Crystal Green keeps the action and reader guessing throughout this strong fun tale.
Bloody Fabulous Lace. Leather. Open collars over exquisite collarbones. A single red drop on paper-white cuffs. From the brocade extravagance of the Unseelie courts to the ubiquitous leather of supernatural detectives to the old-fashioned good taste of wealthy vampires - we are as familiar with fantasy protagonists' attire as we are with their paranormal deed. Tales of tormented designers and well-dressed vampires strut into spotlight in this anthology of fantasy tales focusing on the world of fashion and its intersection with the uncanny.
Bryant and May and the Invisible Code
As Bryant and May and the rest of the PCU team begin to investigate, the case takes on ever larger proportions. Government corruption, whistleblowers in private industry, mental illness and its history in London, private clubs, Russian gangsters, codes and ciphers and the supernatural are all thrown into the heady mix. On top of all that, there are disquieting revelations of how the British class system, cronyism and the complete disregard of commercial/government conflicts of interest conspire to ensure that a cabal of venal and ruthless men stay in power in British government.

Circus: Fantasy Under the Big Top The Circus is a fantastic collection and just what I have been searching for, for a very long time. The collection itself is widely varied and has the perfect balance of dark, supernatural tales of old, to the distant, almost steam punk future. I have always been a fan of reading on carnivals and circus's, only to be throughly disappointed by the lack of stories there are behind them.
Did You Miss Me? As always, Karen Rose does not disappoint. Must read if you are a fan of hers or a fan of crime thrillers...
Falling for You Real life horror moment....being on a dating show only to find out the "hot date" is your ex boyfriend who broke your heart. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place. However this is exactly where Cassidy find herself add to that mix one seriously hot camara man who turns your blood to fire and what do you get a sweet and delicious romantic comedy read.
Flash Point I enjoyed this book and in ways it is similar to other books out now. I think the reason I enjoyed it so much is because it could happen. I could see another depression happening and the way these people act could happen. My problems with this book are just a few. You never do really figure out what Phantoms are. You just kinda have to guess. It is just implied what happened in the Collapse it doesn't come out and say what did happen. The characters could have used more detail and the world building lacked some. Still it was a good read. The things the show put them through at first aren't that bad till the end. That is when things really kick off and you get to see more of what makes the characters kick but you still want more. All in all if you want a quick read and enjoy distopian type books you may give this one a try.
Have Mother, Will Travel: A Mother and Daughter Discover Themselves, Each Other, and the World I can't stop thinking and talking about this book. I opened it on Friday morning, just to take a peek, and came up for air and Pizza at about 7:00 PM. The next day was the same. I couldn't put it down. My husband was on his own for three days while I sat snug in my chair either laughing or crying, occassionally saying "you won't believe where they are now, lets Google it". I was introduced to places I had never even heard of and learned so much.

Heads in Beds: A Reckless Memoir of Hotels, Hustles, and So-Called Hospitality Over the next ten years Jacob's career goes from valet to front desk and almost every point in between. He introduces his reader to stories from the trenches and a large cast of characters that range from a crafty head bellman Alan(aka the "Gray Wolf") to Julio the night manager who pulled a disappearing act for hours on end as he conducted business of another kind. In the world of hotels, luggage takes a whacking, employees sample room service, and amenities are carried off like contraband. For the most part hotel employees are often poorly paid, treated badly, and angry. The reader also learns that hotels can be very different. In New Orleans things were far more relaxed than in New York where check-in becomes a five second process of shuffling in the cattle/guests and being optimally productive while not even being provided a stool.
House of Thebes (The Bloodstone Saga)
If you haven't read the Bloodstone Saga, stop go buy it and then read The House of Thebes, Trust me! Harmonia and Cadamus' love is undeniable and reading this novella just solidifies that fact. I was really sad to see their story come to and end and thought it was a happy one, I was thrilled with the fact that their beginning was going to be told. There's previews of their past lives but Courtney Cole left the actually first initial meeting out,now I see why! Maybe it was planned, and maybe it wasn't, I'm just glad she saw that the readers missed Harmonia and Cadamus as much as she probably did as well and graced us with their amazing beginning. It was nothing short of fantastic and left me more in awe of the love they share. It bestowed a greater sense of understanding of the love they felt and urgency they always seemed to have about them.
PRIMAL Unleashed The action in the PRIMAL books is much more realistic. Still plenty of action, but no one is falling from a space shuttle and shooting six-guns as they as falling. And while PRIMAL is an on-going series, Jack did NOT have his lead character fall off a cliff or anything at the end. I am so ready for the next PRIMAL book. Check out the author's website for some videos on special ops.
Sarah's Surrender (Ranchers of Chatum County) In the Dedication, the author writes,"To everyone who loved 'Staking His Claim' and asked for more of the same." And this hero is definitely in that same vein: a sexually aggressive, physically dominating, and possessive alpha to the extreme. John is gritty and all-male, a very un-PC, throwback kind of guy who would love to rip your bodice for you. He's a man who knows well how to do bossy and pushy he's just that used to having his way and getting what he wants, and he wants Sarah, right from first glance.
See I really enjoyed See and found myself unable to put this book down because I couldn't wait to know what would happen next. Charlie is missing her memories and confused by some of the memories that she does have. For the beginning of the book Charlie did drive me crazy though because she was a pushover. However as the plot all comes together, I definitely liked her a lot more.

Shadow Man Jeffrey Fleishman travels deep into the mind of a man who has wandered far and seen much as a foreign correspondent but remembers only one poignant slice of his childhood. Laced with elegant writing and surprising twists, Shadow Man, Fleishman's second novel, opens up the landscape on memory and loss. His mastery of a story within a story rewards with a rare novel: one told with literary verve while moving forward with suspense and intrigue.
Snowed Over (A Christmas Novella) Snowed Over is a Christmas novella about two college kids, Alex and Katie, that are thrown together for a bit of a road trip to see their families for the holiday. They don't know each other, but they are a friend of a friend...well, you get the drift. Katie's heading to see her mom and sister, along with her mom's new "friend" after a recent separation from her husband. Alex is heading home for some family time and his FIANCE!! So these two get stuck smack dab in the middle of a blizzard, oh no! They are scrambling for shelter. Alex is a gallant knight, taking care of Katie at every turn. *swoon* When they finally find shelter they have to take some pretty desperate measures to stay warm in the freezing temps...but not too desperate. Total PG-13 rating on this novella!
Ten Reasons Not to Date a Cop Growing up a police chief’s daughter, Kaylee Stephens saw firsthand how arrogant cop attitudes affect a marriage. Not for her, no sir. But when a priceless, pre-Columbian statue comes up missing, the day-school teacher finds herself in the middle of a police investigation. And face-to-face with sexy Detective Lucas Blackfox, her brothers’ old high school chum.
The Black Box (A Harry Bosch Novel) Working the case in his normal independent manner is not helped by his a strained relationship with and lack of respect for the competence of his superiors at LAPD, especially his current Lieutenant (O'Toole - nickname "O'Fool"). "You are the worst kind of police officer, Bosch. You are arrogant, a bully, and you think the laws and regulations don't apply to you." O'Toole refers Bosch to Internal Affairs on what seems to be a petty matter, but it is important because it affects the way Bosch can run the investigation and if the complaint is upheld he could easily lose his job because he is on a DROP contract.
The Duke's Deception Marianne Devenish arrives in Great Bentley expecting to find her great-uncle in residence. Instead she finds The Duke of Wister, Theodolphus Rickham pretending to be Sir Theodore Devenish, a tulip of the ton, more interested in the cut of his coat than in politics. Unable to stay in a bachelor establishment she moves to Frating Hall, with the permanently impecunious Lord and Lady Grierson. She discovers, to her horror, that Charles, and his younger brother, Edward are involved with the local smugglers.

The Salt God's Daughter Ilie Ruby has spun a fabulous work with her book, The Salt God's Daughter. Thank you, Ilie for letting us get swept away by the oceans of your mind. After reading this book, I sat with the quiet acceptance of the differences in people in our lives. Not judging. Just grateful to Ilie for showing the inner beauty of all. The homeless, the impoverished, the physically different, the ignored, the castaway. What a mistake we make overlooking or judging. What a gift The Salt God's Daughter is to open our eyes and hearts to help us to see and love more deeply. In the Salt God's Daughter, Ilie gives unheard women a voice.

Arctic Fire Troy Jensen could do it all: he conquered the Seven Summits, sailed solo around the world twice, and even fought a bull in a Mexican slum on a dare. So when word comes that a rogue wave has swept Troy off a crab fishing boat in the Bering Sea and into a watery grave, his brother, Jack, doesn’t buy it. Against his better judgment, Jack decides to quit his job as a Wall Street trader and head to Dutch Harbor, Alaska, to investigate. Minutes after revealing his plan in his father’s New York City office, Jack is nearly run down in the street. He doesn’t think much of it at the time, but as he digs deeper into Troy’s disappearance, Jack unearths information about RED-CELL-SEVEN (RCS), a super-secret American intelligence group that has operated for forty years in almost total secrecy and with complete impunity—and its leaders intend to keep it that way at any cost. An adrenaline-pumping tale of one man’s descent into a hellish underworld populated by terrorists, assassins, and very bad “good guys,” Arctic Fire explores the disturbing difference between doing what is good and doing what is right when it comes to protecting America from her greatest enemies.
Agenda 21 “I was just a baby when we were relocated and I don’t remember much. Everybody has that black hole at the beginning of their life. That time you can’t remember. Your first step. Your first taste of table food. My real memories begin in our assigned living area in Compound 14.” Just a generation ago, this place was called America. Now, after the worldwide implementation of a UN-led program called Agenda 21, it’s simply known as “the Republic.” There is no president. No Congress. No Supreme Court. No freedom. There are only the Authorities. Citizens have two primary goals in the new Republic: to create clean energy and to create new human life. Those who cannot do either are of no use to society. This bleak and barren existence is all that eighteen-year-old Emmeline has ever known. She dutifully walks her energy board daily and accepts all male pairings assigned to her by the Authorities. Like most citizens, she keeps her head down and her eyes closed. Until the day they come for her mother.
“You save what you think you’re going to lose.” Woken up to the harsh reality of her life and her family’s future inside the Republic, Emmeline begins to search for the truth. Why are all citizens confined to ubiquitous concrete living spaces? Why are Compounds guarded by Gatekeepers who track all movements? Why are food, water and energy rationed so strictly? And, most important, why are babies taken from their mothers at birth? As Emmeline begins to understand the true objectives of Agenda 21 she realizes that she is up against far more than she ever thought. With the Authorities closing in, and nowhere to run, Emmeline embarks on an audacious plan to save her family and expose the Republic—but is she already too late?
Bones: The Complete Apocalypse Saga When mankind is visited by Three Great Apocalypses, the only thing standing in their way is a feckless but loyal, easily distracted yet occasionally ferocious German shepherd named Bones, a one-time cadaver dog with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police. This is his amazing story. In Bones, our hero must battle a plague of dangerous parasites that brings the dead back to life with the goal of destroying the planet. Shepherd finds Bones delivered to earthquake-devastated Los Angeles to hunt for survivors only to run afoul of armies of rage-driven rats and birds emerging from the rubble. And when mankind reaches its final hour and a pocket of surviving Indians are all that's left of humanity, it falls on Bones to save the species before civilization is wiped out forever in Alpha. Three Apocalyptic novellas of nature run amok, three interwoven stories that feature a German shepherd at the center of the things, three stories with so much action you might just explode reading them.

The Gourmet Vegetarian Slow Cooker: Simple and Sophisticated Meals from Around the World English | ISBN: 158008074X | 2010 | EPUB + MOBI | 128 pages | 6 + 7 MB Overabundant quotation marks and occasional preaching aside, the recipes in this concise collection are simple and tempting. Organized by broad cuisine categories (Indian, Mexican and Southwestern, Greek, and so on), the dishes in this book don't school readers in the finer points of different cultures' cooking styles, but they do offer easy, tasty options for meat-free comfort food: slow-cooked grits with chili and cheese; polenta gnocchi in tomato sauce; wild mushroom stew on noodles. Appealing photos showcase prepared recipes that feel a step above traditional slow cooker fare, such as rustic potato and poblano gratin; risotto with lentils; polenta lasagna with tomato mushroom sauce; and Japanese-style braised tofu. The handful of surprisingly chic desserts sprinkled throughout—including red wine and cherry risotto; Mexican chocolate pudding cake; walnut and apple bread pudding—are a sweet bonus.
Southern Pies: A Gracious Plenty of Pie Recipes, From Lemon Chess to Chocolate Pecan English | 2010 | 168 Pages | ISBN: 081186992X | EPUB (reupload), MOBI | 6 MB The subtitle says it all. McDermott presents dozens of delicious recipes for pie-loving home bakers in this follow-up to Southern Cakes. With a light hand, McDermott brings in just enough history and context to help bakers appreciate her recipes without fattening her book with too much text. Leigh Beisch's photography adds to the appeal, though some shots of ingredients should have made way for more pictures of actual pies. McDermott splits her plenty in two--chess (Buttermilk, Sweet Potato, Old-School Custard Pies, and others) and chocolate, and includes a helpful lesson on making crusts (or buying them, if need be). McDermott has an obvious affection for the Southern men and women (and their cookbooks) that inspired her recipes, but the proof of the pudding is in the pies themselves. If Peaches and Cream, Hungry Mother Spicy Peanut, Black Bottom, or Muscadine Grape Hull don't whet the appetite, keep reading. With over 60 pies included, even the most finicky pie-eater will find a fare share of "must-bake" recipes.
Genesis of the Grail Kings: The Explosive Story of Genetic Cloning and the Ancient Bloodline of Jesus Published: 2000-02 | ISBN: 1862048096 | PDF | 316 pages | 15 MB Our race, Homo sapien sapien seems to have evolved out of nowhere--confounding anthropologists for years, and dubbed Darwin's "Missing Link." Yet the answer has been with us all along . Genesis reveals Adam and Eve as not the first man and woman on the earth--but the first of a kind. The result of exhaustive archaeological, anthropological, and theological research, Genesis of the Grail Kings exposes 'Biblical myth' as manipulated fact, revealing: * Adam and Eve as the first kind of a particular breed of humans, resulting from genetic cloning of a human-like species with extraterrestials * Adam's emergence heralded a highly advanced Mesopotamian culture--the world's oldest and greatest * All Biblical figures as pharaohic descendants * Joseph, the father of Jesus, as an alchemist, not humble carpenter * When the Israelites made their exodus from Egypt, their spiritual leader was not Moses but Miriam--a queen and high priestess. * Moses was the Pharaoh Amenhotep IV, married to both Queen Nefertiti and Miriam * Moses' son was King Tut, the "boy king" * The Ten Commandments derive from an Egyptian Book of the Dead spell. A startling piece of detective work that combines history, literary criticism, esoterica and archaeology, Genesis of the Grail Kings is the ultimate story of earthly kingship from its Mesopotamian foundation. Drawing on files and secret archives of the ancient Dragon Sovereignty, it reveals the shocking relevance of the Messianic bloodline, explaining in detail the true heritage of the Holy Grail. Including documented records of the hermetic Phoenix, the Philosopher's Stone and the Tables of Testimony, Gardner gives stunning insight into Darwin's 'Missing Link,' active longevity, the transmutation of gold, and the anti-gravitational science of the pharaohs. Genesis of the Grail Kings is essential reading for anyone eager to know the true, untold history of civilization.

Mediterranean women have long embraced a natural vitality, sensual earthiness, grace, and warmth that allows them to be authentically themselves, to live long, spiritually rewarding—and thin!—lives, freed from empty calories, empty diet promises, impossible standards, and a "say no to food" mentality. From the cuisines of the Mediterranean and the Middle East, women learn how to maintain a healthy weight even as they discover and delight in the Mediterranean approach to food: the joy of the colors, textures, aromas, and flavors.
Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln's Killer 2007 | ISBN-10: 0060518499, 0060518502 | PDF | 464 pages | 3 MB The murder of Abraham Lincoln set off the greatest manhunt in American history -- the pursuit and capture of John Wilkes Booth. From April 14 to April 26, 1865, the assassin led Union cavalry and detectives on a wild twelve-day chase through the streets of Washington, D.C., across the swamps of Maryland, and into the forests of Virginia, while the nation, still reeling from the just-ended Civil War, watched in horror and sadness.
At the very center of this story is John Wilkes Booth, America's notorious villain. A Confederate sympathizer and a member of a celebrated acting family, Booth threw away his fame and wealth for a chance to avenge the South's defeat. For almost two weeks, he confounded the manhunters, slipping away from their every move and denying them the justice they sought. Based on rare archival materials, obscure trial transcripts, and Lincoln's own blood relics, Manhunt is a fully documented work, but it is also a fascinating tale of murder, intrigue, and betrayal. A gripping hour-by-hour account told through the eyes of the hunted and the hunters, this is history as you've never read it before.
Madame Tussaud: A Life in Wax 2007 | ISBN-10: 0060528478, 0060528486 | PDF | 368 pages | 10 MB Millions have visited the museums that bear her name, yet few know much about Madame Tussaud. A celebrated artist, she had both a ringside seat at and a cameo role in the French Revolution. A victim and survivor of one of the most tumultuous times in history, this intelligent, pragmatic businesswoman has also had an indelible impact on contemporary culture, planting the seed of our obsession with celebrity. In Madame Tussaud, Kate Berridge tells this fascinating woman's complete story for the first time, drawing upon a wealth of sources, including Tussaud's memoirs and historical archives. It is a grand-scale success story, revealing how with sheer graft and grit a woman born in 1761 to an eighteen-year-old cook overcame extraordinary reversals of fortune to build the first and most enduring worldwide brand identified simply by reference to its founder's name: Madame Tussaud's.

Improvisation for the Spirit: Live a More Creative, Spontaneous, and Courageous Life Using the Tools of Improv Comedy 2008 | ISBN-10: 1402211910 | 272 pages | PDF | 4 MB A long-time, nationally touring comedian and contributor to O, The Oprah Magazine, first-time author Goodman manages to slip an improv-inspired free-for-all format and a good dash of humor into the self-help genre, making a winning and creative volume that will help the shy, the fearful, and the controlling to loosen up and enjoy life. Each of twelve chapters covers a concept such as "Be Open & Flexible" or "Allowing Imperfection"; Goodman explains the concept, provides anecdotes from her work (some are helpful and sincere, others seem to have been pulled off her publicity brochure) and encourages self-exploration with writing, drawing and doing exercises. Goodman's advice is helpful for small issues, such as controlling self-doubt: "Our Inner Critic is trainable. Think Young Frankenstein singing 'Puttin' On the Ritz.'" Broader advice, however, may seem more appropriately applied to stage relationships than to real ones. Still, Goodman's quirky, thoughtful approach and breezy tone should give wound-up readers some new ways to relax, relate and think about their lives.
The Butcher's Guide to Well-Raised Meat: How to Buy, Cut, and Cook Great Beef, Lamb, Pork, Poultry, and More 2011 | ISBN-10: 0307716627 | PDF | 240 pages | 11MB There is a food revolution sweeping the nation, changing the way Americans think and eat, and meat is at the heart of it. The butcher has reemerged in American culture as an essential guide in avoiding the evils of industrial meat— which not only tastes bad, but is also bad for one’s health and for the environment. Joshua and Jessica Applestone, a former vegan and vegetarian, are trailblazers in this arena. They run Fleisher’s, an old-school butcher shop with a modern-day mission—sourcing and selling only grass-fed and organic meat. The Applestones’ return to the nearly lost
tradition of the buying and nose-to-tail carving of whole animals—all humanely raised close to their shop in New York’s Hudson Valley—has helped to make them rising stars in the food world. The Butcher’s Guide to Well-Raised Meat is a compendium of their firsthand knowledge. This unique book—a guide, memoir, manifesto, and reference in one—shares everything one needs to know about well-raised meat, including why pastured meats are so much better than conventional ones and how to perfectly butcher and cook them at home. Readers will learn which cut of steak to look for as an alternative to the popular hanger (of which each steer has only one), how to host a driveway pig roast, and even how to break down an entire lamb (or just butterfly the shoulder)—all with accompanying step-by-step photographs. Differences among breeds and ideal cooking methods for various cuts and offal are covered, and the Applestones’ decoding of misleading industry terminology and practices will help consumers make smarter, healthier purchases that can also help change what’s wrong with meat in America today. Complete with color and black-and-white photographs, illustrations, and more than a dozen recipes, The Butcher’s Guide to Well-Raised Meat is the definitive guide to eating great meat—responsibly.
Cooked: From the Streets to the Stove, from Cocaine to Foie Gras 2007 | ISBN-10: 0061153907 | 288 pages | PDF | 3 MB How one of San Diego's most successful cocaine dealers became an award-winning chef [...] is the question that drives this sporadically inspired memoir. Henderson got his start dealing when his family moved to San Diego and he fell in with two street thugs. At age 25, after amassing a small fortune in drug money, Henderson was arrested, convicted and sentenced to 19 years in prison; once there, he discovered a love for cooking that gave him muchneeded direction. After serving nine years, Henderson got an early release and began a series of grueling, occasionally demeaning jobs in kitchens, eventually working his way up to leading roles in Caesars Palace Hotel and elsewhere. Unfortunately, Henderson's story rings truest before he turns to the culinary; the fascinating level of detail in his description of the drug trade dissipates when it comes to the intricacies of working in and running a kitchen, lending his redemption a hollow feel. In addition, Henderson's casual reference to methods and equipment particular to the industry may leave amateur foodies nonplussed. While Henderson's achievements deserve recognition, this rushed retelling makes it difficult to fully appreciate his hard work.

But what Ryan doesn't know is that his son, Jack Ryan, Jr., has joined his cousins, Brian and Dominic Caruso, at the shadowy Campus. While a highly effective analyst, young Ryan hungers for the action of a field agent. The Campus has now turned their sights on the Emir, the number-one terrorist threat to Western civilization. A reclusive figure and mastermind of vicious terrorist acts, the Emir has eluded capture by the world's law-enforcement agencies. But now - with the help of ex-CIA agent John Clark and protĂŠgĂŠ Marine Colonel Ding Chavez - the Campus is in on the hunt. In a fast-paced, intense performance, film and television star Lou Diamond Phillips narrates the story of their mission to bring in the Emir, dead or alive.

Che Guevara A Revolutionary Life (Audiobook) English | 2008 | ISBN: 1433270684 | ASIN: B001P1XEOC | 36 hours and 48 minutes | MP3 | 757 MB Che Guevara was a dashing rebel whose epic dream was to end poverty and injustice in Latin America and the developing world through armed revolution. Jon Lee Anderson traces Che's extraordinary life from his comfortable Argentine upbringing to the battlefields of the Cuban revolution, from the halls of power in Castro's government to his failed campaign in the Congo and his assassination in the Bolivian jungle. Meticulously researched and full of exclusive information, this work illuminates as never before the mythic figure who embodied the high-water mark of revolutionary communism as a force in history.
Generation Kill (Audiobook) English | 2008 | ISBN: 1400159741 | ASIN: B001KJ6YFU | 13 hours and 21 minutes | MP3 | 734 MB They were called a generation without heroes. Then they were called upon to be heroes. Within hours of 9/11, America's war on terrorism fell to those like the 23 Marines of the First Recon Battalion, the first generation dispatched into open-ended combat since Vietnam. They were a new breed of American warriors unrecognizable to their forebears - soldiers raised on hip-hop, Internet porn, Marilyn Manson, video games, and The Real World, a band of born-again Christians, dopers, Buddhists, and New Agers who gleaned their precepts from kung fu movies and Oprah Winfrey. Cocky, brave, headstrong, wary, and mostly unprepared for the physical, emotional, and moral horrors ahead, the "First Suicide Battalion" would spearhead the blitzkrieg on Iraq and fight against the hardest resistance Saddam had to offer. Generation Kill is the funny, frightening, and profane firsthand account of these remarkable men, of the personal toll of victory, and of the randomness, brutality, and camaraderie of a new American war.
Final Impact (Axis of Time Trilogy) (Audiobook) English | 2007 | ISBN: 034545717X | ASIN: B001RUZSTK | 16 hours and 33 minutes | MP3 | 452 MB In the year 2021 a multinational fleet - experimenting with untested weapons technology - pitched through time, crashlanding in 1942. The world is thrown into chaos as Roosevelt, Hitler, Churchill, Tojo, and Stalin scramble to adapt to new, high-tech killing tools, and twenty-first-century ways of war.
For "uptimers" like Britain's Prince Harry and the men and women who serve aboard the supercarrier USS Hillary Clinton, war is a constant struggle with their own downtime allies, who are mired in ignorance and bigotry. As the Allies counter the Nazi assault and set off for the coast of France, Japan begins to buckle, soon every battle will be played out in a lethal dance of might and intelligence, unholy alliances and desperate gambles, and each clash will be fought with the ultimate weapon; knowledge from the future. Thanks to the historical records, all sides know that two superpowers will emerge, while the losers will be pounded into submission. But time has shifted on its axis, so none know who will survive, or how peace will take hold in a world turned upside down. These are the questions that John Birmingham brilliantly answers in his critically acclaimed adventure of war and imagination.

The impossible has spawned the unthinkable. In 2021, a quantum military experiment goes horrifically wrong. A multinational taskforce of ultra-modern warships is suddenly transported back in time to 1942...right into the path of the U.S. naval battle group bound for Midway Atoll. History is rewritten in an instant as the future smashes into the past, and high-tech hardware goes head to head with World War Two technology. In the chaos that ensues, thousands are killed, but the maelstrom has only just begun. The veterans of Pearl Harbor have never seen a helicopter, or a cruise missile - let alone nanotechnology, ceramic bullets, and F22 Raptor stealth jetfighters. Allied and Axis forces are then caught in a desperate struggle to gain the upper hand - each hoping to tip the balance with a fist full of 21st-century firepower. What happens next is anybody's guess - and everybody's nightmare.

Wolf Hall A Novel By (Audiobook) English | 2009 | ISBN: 1427210160 | ASIN: B002UF5KNA | 24 hours and 19 minutes | MP3 | 949 MB In the ruthless arena of King Henry VIII’s court, only one man dares to gamble his life to win the king’s favor and ascend to the heights of political power England in the 1520s is a heartbeat from disaster. If the king dies without a male heir, the country could be destroyed by civil war. Henry VIII wants to annul his marriage of twenty years, and marry Anne Boleyn. The pope and most of Europe opposes him. The quest for the king’s freedom destroys his adviser, the brilliant Cardinal Wolsey, and leaves a power vacuum. Into this impasse steps Thomas Cromwell. Cromwell is a wholly original man, a charmer and a bully, both idealist and opportunist, astute in reading people and a demon of energy: he is also a consummate politician, hardened by his personal losses, implacable in his ambition. But Henry is volatile: one day tender, one day murderous. Cromwell helps him break the opposition, but what will be the price of his triumph? In inimitable style, Hilary Mantel presents a picture of a half-made society on the cusp of change, where individuals fight or embrace their fate with passion and courage. With a vast array of characters, overflowing with incident, the novel re-creates an era when the personal and political are separated by a hairbreadth, where success brings unlimited power but a single failure means death.

Housing Reclaimed: Sustainable Homes for Next to Nothing New Society Publishers | Jessica Kellner | 2011 | HQ PDF | ISBN: 086571696X | 217 pages | 109 Mb Housing is a fundamental human right. For most of human history, our homes were built by hand from whatever local materials were available. However, since the Industrial Revolution, most housing has become little more than quickly constructed, mass-produced, uniform boxes. At the same time, the invention and standardization of the thirty-year mortgage and our ever-increasing reliance on credit has come to mean that most of us never own our homes outright. Housing Reclaimed is a call to arms for nonconventional home builders. It examines how technological advances, design evolution, and resourceful, out-of-the-box thinking about materials and efficiency can help us meet the challenge of building affordable, environmentally friendly, beautiful, and unique homes. Focusing on the use of salvaged and reclaimed materials, this inspirational volume is packed with case studies of innovative projects including: Phoenix Commotion—working together towards low-income home ownership through sweat equity and 100 percent recycled materials HabeRae—revitalizing neighborhoods by creating urban infill using modern technology and sustainable and reclaimed materials Builders of Hope—rescuing and rehabilitating whole houses slated for demolition These projects and others like them demonstrate that building one's own home does not have to be an unattainable dream. This beautifully illustrated guide is a must-read for anyone interested in creating quality zero- or low-debt housing, reducing landfill waste, and creating stronger communities.
Jessica Kellner is the editor of Natural Home and Garden magazine and a passionate advocate of using architectural salvage to create aesthetically beautiful, low-cost housing.

It's All in Your Head: Thinking Your Way to Happiness 2007 | ISBN-10: 0060760001 | PDF | 240 pages | 4 MB Here are the simple truths that motivate people of any age to find and accept lasting happiness, illustrated with the stories of real people, and illuminated with the observations of spiritual leaders and great philosophers. For more than three decades, attorney, financial consultant, and life coach Stephen M. Pollan has been advising clients and readers on the business of living—everything from home buying and employment contracts to marriage and parenting. He has taught his clients and readers to Die Broke (use assets rather than build up an estate), to stage Second Acts (reinvent their lives), and, most recently, to Fire Your Boss (take charge of their own work lives). Throughout these books, Pollan stresses that attitudes as well as actions are essential to success. Indeed, over the years he realized that the happiest and most successful people he'd met were also those who were the most energetic and exuberant, regardless of their age. By noting these attributes and incorporating them in his own life, Pollan came to understand that our attitudes are not just one element of succeeding at the business of living, they are in fact the foundation of leading a happy life. Attitude is everything. Those attitudes most essential to our deepest satisfaction and happiness reflect what our spiritual leaders and philosophers from every major tradition have taught us. We don't have to look to external forces to validate us and give us self-worth. We already have within us all we need to find fulfillment and lead happy, satisfying lives—lives without regrets. To finally be happy we need to accept responsibility for our own happiness. When we know the secrets are already inside us, all we have to do is start living them. With this book, we can begin now.

Somebody Owes Me Money, 6 Cds (Audiobook) English | 2008 | ISBN: 0792754530 | MP3 | 361 MB Chet Conway, a New York City cabbie who calls himself eloquent, likes his job and can afford to be philosophical about tips—that is, until one passenger gives him a gratuity that may cost him his life. This tip isn’t spare change but inside dope on a long-shot horse. Chet, who likes both stud poker and horse racing, places a bet on the cuff, and the nag comes in big. But when he goes to collect, his bookie is bleeding. Even worse, everyone—from the bookie’s wife and sister, to the cops, to two warring gangs—thinks Chet pulled the trigger. All he wants is his cash, but he looks likely to be paid in lead. This 1969 comic caper may have fallen out of print, but it’s so agreeably engaging that it suggests that Westlake has never had a bad day at work. Chet’s doggedness in the face of absurd complications keeps us smiling along in the backseat. And, even as Westlake kids the conventions of mystery, the neatly knotted plot proves that he takes even fun seriously.
The ISBN of this recording says "2008" - okay, but the book was written in 1969. It's one of Donald E. Westlake's humourous books. An easy read, and a fairly easy listen. The reader, Stephen Thorne, in my opinion, is dire. He tries, but he'd have been better off just reading it. Sometimes he "does" a voice, sometimes he doesn't bother. But the book makes it worthwhile - a very enjoyable Donald E. Westlake, and proof that he didn't have to write about Dortmunder to produce a funny book.
Shadow of Betrayal (Audiobook) English | 2009 | ISBN: 038534158X | ASIN: B002GPFJ3U | 14 hours and 4 minutes | MP3 | 419 MB The meeting place was carefully chosen: an abandoned church in rural Ireland just after dark. For Jonathan Quinn - a freelance operative and professional "cleaner" - the job was only to observe. If his cleanup skills were needed, it would mean things had gone horribly wrong. But an assassin hidden in a tree assured just that. And suddenly Quinn had four dead bodies to dispose of and one astounding clue - to a mystery that is about to spin wildly out of control. Three jobs, no questions. That was the deal Quinn had struck with his client at the Office. Unfortunately for him, Ireland was just the first. Now Quinn, along with his colleague and girlfriend - the lethal Orlando - has a new assignment touched off by the killings in Ireland. Their quarry is a U.N. aide worker named Marion Dupuis who has suddenly disappeared from her assignment in war-torn Africa. When Quinn finally catches a glimpse of her, she quickly flees, frantic and scared. And not alone. For Quinn the assignment has now changed. Find Marion Dupuis, and the child she is protecting, and keep them from harm. If it were only that easy. Soon Quinn and Orlando find themselves in a bunker in the California hills, where Quinn will unearth a horrifying plot that is about to reach stage critical for a gathering of world leaders - and an act of terror more cunning, and more insidious, than anyone can guess. Fast, smart, sleek, and stunning, Shadow of Betrayal is vintage Brett Battles: a gritty, gripping masterpiece of suspense, a thriller that makes the pulse pound--and stirs the heart as well.
The End of Money: Counterfeiters, Preachers, Techies, Dreamers-and the Coming Cashless Society (Audiobook) English | 2012 | ISBN: 0306818833 | ASIN: B00797LM5E | 8 hours and 1 minute | MP3 | 217 MB Say good-bye to your beloved Benjamins, because the world is going cashless. So says David Wolman, and in The End of Money, he explores the drastic implications. How is it happening? What's at stake? Why does it matter? Each chapter of this timely and fascinating audiobook focuses on a specific aspect of the coming cashlessness. Its cast of compelling characters includes an end-times fundamentalist who views the growing obsolescence of cash as a sign of the coming rapture; an Icelandic artist whose claim to fame illustrates the complicated relationship between cash and nationalism; an American libertarian and coin-maker convicted on federal charges for the distribution of "Liberty" coins and Ron Paul dollars; and an Indian software engineer (self-billed as "the assassin of cash") whose firm is enabling digital payment methods that are lifting the living standards of thousands of poor New Dehli residents via their cell phones. Raising the stakes with a personal experiment, Wolman goes (almost) a full year without using cash at all. All told, The End of Money offers everything there is to love about popular nonfiction, rendering a complex subject entertaining and easily approachable for a wide audience while proving the ultimate adventurousness inherent in a curiosity about the workings of the world.
