2015 Chinook

Classic Sale

Welcome from the SAAC President Greetings everyone, The Southern Alberta Angus Club again welcomes everyone to the 2015 edition of the Chinook Angus sale. As always we maintain a very active program throughout the year, the Chinook Sale being one of our highlights. Juniors, of course, are one of our primary program directives and, as always, the Chinook sale remains a super place for our youth to acquire superior Angus females to start a new project or enhance an ongoing one. Junior Incentives continue through our 10% discount, and heifer futurity. The donation heifer program as always is used to fund many junior functions throughout the year. This year our heartfelt gratitude goes out to Delar Angus (the Sushelnitski family) for their gracious donation. We have a much larger group of bred heifers this year, our consigners have realy stepped up to the plate to increase this category of the sale offering. So, all in all, we have for you an absolutely outstanding selection of Angus seedstock for your inspection. What a great time to secure some of the finest Angus genetics available anywhere, and what a great time to do it, the cattle market (especially Angus) has never been this strong with no sign of weakening for many years. Can’t make the sale? Sign up to buy online and please don’t hesitate to phone and visit any of the consigners between now and sale time. Looking forward to visiting with you at the sale, and don’t forget to come for a steak before sale time. Respectfully, Doug Allen President, SAAC

Welcome from Bouchard Livestock International Welcome to the 29th Annual Chinook Classic Angus Sale. Things do not stick around for 29 years without a very good reason, and this year the Southern Alberta Angus Club will once again be hosting a top quality sale. The cattle numbers are down across the board, and with feed prices being the highest ever the purebred breeders are keeping only those top producing females that can more then pay their way around the farms. This will give you, the buyer an excellent opportunity to add some top Angus genetics to your herd. The consigners will be around all day of the sale to visit with or ask any questions, or feel free to contact any of them before the sale with your inquiries. We are happy to be working with DLMS again this year for internet broadcasting. You can also contact any of the Bouchard Livestock team members with questions you may have, to leave an order, or for phone bidding during the sale. We are excited to be partnered once again with the Southern Alberta Angus Club for this event. Join them for their complimentary supper at 5:00 and then do not miss this opportunity to purchase some outstanding Angus females. See you there, Doug Domolewski

It is a very rare occasion that I sell a bred heifer, so here we go - a yearling heifer from an outstanding, stout, easy-fleshing, very correct cow. We have other daughters in the herd from this cow doing a great job. In fact, there is a heifer calf in the sale from one of them. Sire of this heifer is a son of the great Sitz Upward 307R. We used Plattemere Weighup because of his overall eye appeal and outstanding performance numbers. He didn’t disappoint, we had some great calves out of him last year. 144J has proven himself an unbeatable calving ease sire that passes that trait on to his progeny. He has also left us many awesome females over the years, we have sold many outstanding bulls from 144J over the years. ADJ ADJ BW WT YW 78 567 825

Huge potential in this heifer calf. Out of a big, long, easy-fleshing young cow. Sired by our newest herdsire, Youngdale Excaliber 100A. He was one of the high selling group of bulls in 2014 Youngdale bull sale. The Excalibers have been the most popular, most exciting line of bulls on the market the last couple of years. I believe at this year’s sale Barry sold a half brother for $140,000. Great performance and loads of eye appeal in all of Excaliber 100A progeny. ADJ ADJ BW WT YW 88 - -

A very successful Chuck Norris daughter that has made headway being named the farm favorite of the bred heifer pen by visitors. With a dam proven for longevity and who has become a foundation of our program, 50B is sure to not disappoint with her attractive profile, deep rib and exotic muscle mass. Bred to Red C.D All Star 27A, 50B should produce progeny with performance but with the same longevity found in her pedigree as well as All stars. Coming out of an all Canadian pedigree, 18B is sired by Red Shoderee All Star 120W, a bull that we used for five years adding muscle shape and sound hoof structure to his progeny. 18B’s dam has been known to produce daughters making the top end of the show pen with many selling in the Chinook Sale and some becoming successful 4-H projects. Briss is bred to Red CRSL Pattern Maker, a bull we purchased from Carrousel Farms of Wisconsin that we believe will put successful females back into a herd and be easy calving with his 74lb birth weight. This heifer was bought from Jack Davidson, Southey, SK. She really intrigued me with her different pedigree. According to Jack, there were only 12 head registered in Canada last year. Sired by RITO 4612 of Rita 8623 112 (1522632). For a gut feeling she turned out to be a pretty nice heifer. Being bred to Hoover Dam ain’t gonna do no harm.

It’s not very often that a bull impacts every single operation that uses him quite like Rollin Deep has. In the fall of 2012 we offered two semen packages for sale at Agribition. They sold for $350 and $300 per straw to Leeuwenburgh’s and Lauron Red Angus. I won’t lie to you, at the time, even I thought they paid too much. Fast-forward a few years to this spring’s bull sales, and $350 per straw is starting to look like chump change. In both of their bull sales, and ours as well, a Rollin Deep son was the high seller. $27,000, $33,000, and $60,000 respectively. In total, 31 Rollin Deep sons in Canada averaged $11,500. At Bieber’s sale in South Dakota, 40 sons averaged $18,000, including their high seller at $70,000. A measurement of a great breeding bull is if he can produce offspring as good or better than he is. Rollin Deep has proven he is more than capable. Now the best part, his daughters. They are absolutely beautifully put together females. Deep, easy-fleshing, great-uddered, with ideal temperaments. These will be cherished by everyone who has one for years to come. I can’t remember a bull that has created so much of a stir in the industry without having ever entered a show ring. Bieber’s themselves were so impressed with his offspring they purchased the walking rights of the bull back from us for $50,000 American. Everything to do with this bull has been profitable for everyone involved. How often can that be said about a bull? Co-owned with Bieber Red Angus, South Dakota and Silver Spur Ranch, Wyoming.
