WELCOME TO THE NORTHERN CLASSIC Welcome to the 12th Annual Northern Classic Bull Sale. Seems just like yesterday we had the 11th Annual Bull Sale…time really flies by. What an exciting time to be in the cattle industry, first of all we would like to congratulate those who have stuck in the business all the years as you are finally receiving the prices for your calf crop that you deserve. What an upswing to the cattle market with the run starting last fall to see record prices in all areas of the cattle market right from the calves, to the fat market and the cull cow and bull market. The outlook seems to be very good with prices expected to stay steady as North American cattle numbers are still very low. Both programs have stayed very committed to the cattle industry always searching for new genetics to advance our programs to the next level through purchasing top-end walking bulls or buying semen packs from some of the most sought-after genetics in the cattle industry. We are constantly working on putting the best possible cow herd together to raise the best possible set of bulls for you, our customers. Both programs are family-based operations where everyone is involved in the farm and everyone has important roles. Mike and I are very lucky to have wives that seem to be the glue to the operations and hold everything together and helping with everything that happens on the farm so thank you Mari and Nikki, your help is greatly appreciated. We continue to offer the payment plan with half down sale day and the other half due November 1, 2015. We continue to offer free delivery within the Peace region and do our utmost to get them delivered right to your farm. We continue to offer sight unseen purchases and work very closely with you to find a bull that will meet your needs. Payment Terms

Pay 1/2 on sale day and the balance due November 1 with post-dated cheque. Bulls become the risk of the purchaser as soon as they are sold and must carry insurance to qualify for Terms. All bulls must have their registration papers transferred to same owner.

Health and Fertility

All bulls will be scrotal measured and vet examined. All bulls over 12 months of age will be semen tested. All bulls were treated with Ivomec and such products and have received all their vaccinations. Contact seller for details on programs.

100% Guarantee

All bulls are guaranteed to be satisfactory breeders in accordance with CSA and CCA guidelines. Should a problem occur barring injury or mismanagement, a bull of equal value will be provided or a credit will be issued towards the purchase of another bull. We guarantee you will have a bull to service your cows.

Bulls can be picked up at Evergreen Park on sale day and a $100 discount will be deducted from purchased price. At the buyer’s option and risk the bull can return home and be delivered anywhere in the Peace Region and to central locations free of charge. Anywhere outside of this will be shared costs of the buyer and seller. We will do our utmost to deliver them right to your yard. We will start delivery shortly after the date of sale on our schedule so please have a spot ready for your bull as we try to make full trailer loads when delivering.

We still offer the personal touch given, as when our bulls were sold on the farm. Contact us and we will personally go over the bulls, your program and your needs. If you are not able to attend the sale, we will recommend you to contact one of the sales staff, who will represent your needs in a professional and confidential manner.

EPD Explanation

EPDs are “Expected Progeny Difference”. They are a useful tool in selection EPD incorporate the individual animal with its anestry performance. EPDs do not compare across cattle breeds. They are individual based per breed. EPDs indicate a probable variance above or below breed average for that trait for a given bull’s progeny. The accuracy of EPDs for calendar year bull calves is generally about 20% (one out of five times) so use it cautiously. One of several selection tools. We are a family based operation located Northeast of Grande Prairie in a small community called Teepee Creek. We are a second generation farm family where the family farm was started by my parents Donald and Patsy McQuaig who still live on the main farm and help out when they can. Dad helps out with moving equipment around for us throughout the year and mother still likes to chase and sort cattle when she can…we stick her on the gate which she does not like but I don’t have to worry about her running… cause we know she will. LOL. She also does a lot of cooking and bless her heart for this as we have ate many meals there and really appreciate it. Our operation is a mixed operation of both grain and cattle with the cattle being our main source of income. We rely on the farm for 100 percent of our income. With that said we always have been and always will be 100 percent committed to our program and the day that we do not continue with that belief is the day that we will disperse and head in a different direction. Our program is based on a purebred herd of 200 mother cows, managing both Simmentals and Charolais cattle. Within the Simmental herd we are managing 3 different programs of red, black and a fullblood section of cattle. Our Charolais program is much smaller in numbers and is a program that we are continually trying to expand, we just recently headed south and purchased 20 of the best Charolais bred females we could find last fall. We have bought and sold a lot of cows in both programs if they don’t work for us one thing for sure is the genetics won’t work for you so we cut our losses and sell them…no matter the cost. We are continually searching for top end genetics through purchasing the best possible herd sires or purchasing exclusive semen packs on highly sought after herd sires that will advance our program to the next level which in turn will supply you with those same genetics. Wallbanger is a bull that created quite a stir since he was born, selling half interest in 2010 for $45,000 to Robb Farms and the Semen Syndicate. He is a super soggy, stout-made bull that gets out and moves freely on a tremendous set of feet and legs. Measured 39 cm and froze semen at just 11 months of age. His offspring topped and set record prices in 2013 at many sales across Western Canada. He stamps them all the same - born easy, grow rapidly and all have that herdbull look to them. His second set of daughters are into production, not only do they have beautiful udders, but they are proving they can produce with the momma cows bringing in top weights in the fall and breeding back early for their second year of production and maintaining their body condition as well. Wallbanger calves are hitting the ground again this spring and continue to impress us each and every day. He will see heavy use again this spring at JayDawn farms through the use of AI.

Here is a big black performance powerhouse of Wallbanger. This black baldy has also been a pen favorite all year long. His dam is a hard-working Rocket female that is as sure-footed and perfectuddered as any cow in our herd. She has been a stellar producer with two daughters in-herd and three sons working in top herds working in the Peace as well. Sons have been sold to Shady Lane Colony, Clark Rycroft and David Berry. This bull is very high in the ranking as well, being in the top 5% for weaning and the top 4% for weaning. One thing about Wallbanger is that he calves super easy. They grow, are easy-doing and have a ton of hair. Well 5B is all of that, born small, good growth and a ton of hair. 21B is the result of flushing 502R to Red Mountain. This stout-made red herdsire will have an impact on whatever herd he is put into. Lots of hip to him, lots of performance, dark red with a moderate birth weight all jammed into one package. He has balanced EPD’s and is very strong maternally ranking in top 1% for maternal calving ease and top 2% for both maternal weaning weight and milk. 502R is a large-volume power cow that has a pedigree a little outcross to the Simmental breed. 33B has been a pen favorite since birth with his unique markings. This soggy-made son of Total Value is moderate-made and is very deep-sided. He moves like a cat across the pen on a very correct set of feet and legs. We introduced Total Value into our Fullblood program for the 2013 breeding season and he met all of our expectations with what we set out to do. The bulls are thick-made with good testicles, the females are like peas in a pod and we are very excited about them. Total Value calves came easy, grew excellent and all have a ton of hair. 752T has excellent feet and a good udder with lots of milk. This bull ranks high in the EPD’s for performance and maternal. JAYDAWN FARMS 25B and 11B are embryo bulls that are the result of flushing one of the best cows at JayDawn Farms. JDF Fairytale 117M is a no-miss cow that has been a stellar producer for us. She is a large-volume cow that has a ton of mass to her. She is very nice-fronted and, for a cow her age, has a very good udder. We looked long and hard to find the right bull to flush her to and came across Winn Mans Lanza 610S, a bull that is massive-made with natural muscling and performance yet he is super easy-calving and is used as a heifer bull in many programs. We can speak to that because we used him on heifers with great success. The reason for flushing was to expand our Charolais herd with top genetics and genetics that we know work both on males and females. The result was 33 number one embryos to this mating. We only put a few in the first year to make sure it worked and we are super excited with the results.

Another typical Revolt son that will make a ton of friends sale day. Blueprint is a late February calf that has had no problem keeping up with the rest of the pen. This attractive dark red, baldy bull is a real hairy, thick-butted and extremely deep-flanked. His mother is a farm favorite, she has a perfect udder, is huge-bodied and has proven she can raise some nice females, as we have two here in the herd. By the time sale day roles around Sonic will barely be a year old but, trust me, you’d never notice. We were only able to get one calf crop off of Revolt but he sure marked them all the same. Deep-bodied, long, moderate-framed and they all had lots of hair to survive these Peace Country winters. Cavalier is a full Fleck bull that everyone will have marked. He is a real long-bodied bull that really pushes down the scale. He’s been a farm favorite right from the start and only continues to make more friends as they tour the bull pen. The most exciting part of this feature herdsire is the cow he’s off of. If you can find a better-uddered, stronger-footed full Fleck female, I’d like to see her because they don’t get much better. 59U is a huge-volume cow that milks extremely hard. We just calved out a maternal sister to him this spring and we’re pretty excited about her future. Being sired by the South African sire Harrach makes him an outcross pedigree for the Peace region. Battalion is the youngster of this year’s calf crop, but trust me you’d never notice. When you combine two of the very best cows in the Willow Creek herd in 256U and 59U. Both cows have raised some big time herd bulls that have been averaging well over $6,000. 59U is the top black cow on the farm, she’s powerful-bodied, excellent-footed and knows how to produce with sons at Mike Weiss and Fallen Timber Farms, Dead Horse Creek, and Brian Fenton. Power is in his blood and that would explain why he is one of the bigger bulls in the pen with just a March 6 birthday. SALE TERMS & CONDITIONS The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made prior to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Bouchard Livestock Ltd reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should the purchaser fail to settle for his purchase, Bouchard Livestock Ltd reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage, either publicly or privately, without further notice. RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS - The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and the terms and conditions of this sale do not cover obligations of the two parties connected thereto. BOUCHARD LIVESTOCK LTD IS AGENT ONLY - It is clearly understood that Bouchard Livestock Ltd acts only as agent between buyer and seller and is not in any way responsible for any failure by either party to live up to his or her obligations. Bouchard Livestock Ltd does not assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of monies by either parties, and in exceptional case, any legal action will be between buyer and seller. Bouchard Livestock Ltd has no ownership of the facility and assumes no responsibility for the operation of said facility.
