We are very happy to have Ralph Retzlaff and family of Saddleridge Charolais joing us again this year. What a year it has been, with record prices and strong demand. Who would have thought you could take a cull bull in and pick up a cheque for $3,000 or more? There has never been a better time to unload that old boy and replace him with a new model. We have developed our herd using top genetics through AI and walking herdsires. All bulls will have been earnotch tested for BVD. If you read Dr. Rob Stables notes on this disease I think you will understand how important it is to buy bulls that have tested negative for this disease. I would encourage everyone to go to the Simmental and Charolais websites and look up any of the bulls on offer to obtain more information on them. Both of these associations have valuable tools for cattlemen to take advantage of. We truly appreciate Bouchard Livestock’s involvement with us again this year. Brian has been through the bulls and can offer you professional advice, whether it be order buying or an honest opinion on any of the bulls. So please don’t hesitate to give him a call. He has been involved with us for many years so he knows the cow herd and can give you solid advice. We are using DLMS again this year so if you can’t make it to the sale please register and take advantage of this service. We will offer free delivery within a 150 mile radius and at cost after that. We appreciate the Swenson’s inviting us to their bull sale again. It’s a great time to be in the beef business! There are record-setting prices and the more pounds you have to sell the bigger the cheque. Crossbreeding with Charolais is one of the easiest ways to improve performance and increase the number of pounds sold. We raise the kind of bulls that we like to use on our Angus-based cow herd and we know that the calves will perform on feed. This year we increased our Charolais herd so we could offer a better service to our customers. The Cholak’s of Circle Cee Charolais allowed us to pick cows from the heart of their herd and we have been very satisfied with the results. We continue to use AI and embryo transfer utilizing some of the best genetics available. We try to find the “curve bender” bulls that have very acceptable birth weights along with some of the best weaning and yearling weights in the breed. EC No Doubt and Sparrows Fargo are curve bender bulls that have progeny in our sale. We would certainly like to take the bulls you have purchased back home after the sale and continue to develop them for you with the same bull developer ration they receive now at no additional cost to you. We would ask that you insure them if they come back to our farm and we will deliver them at a time convenient to you. l rainalta & guests bull sale Welcome from Bouchard Livestock Welcome to the Rainalta and Guests Annual Bull Sale. Bouchard Livestock has been involved with the Rainalta program for a number of years, both through marketing and consulting. Bill and Janice have done a great job with genetic selection to assist in moving their program forward. Our involvement with the Saddleridge program does not have as much history, but in recent years, we have certainly come to respect the program and effort that Ralph puts forth in his Charolais operation. Both of these herds have a rich history in selection of both AI sires and walking herd bulls. I felt their respective offerings really came together to offer their customers a set of bulls that I would label the right kind in 2014. The 2015 offering is even stronger and their annual bull sale in Brooks will be an opportunity to source your herd bull needs. There are an excellent offering of performance bulls to sire a set of calves that will really push the scales down at a time when those heavy calves are consistently at record prices. There will be specific individuals bred to fill the needs in your heifer pasture as well. We will be very familiar with the 2015 bull offering from both of these programs and will be in a position to assist with your selection and represent your buying interests in the event that you are unable to be in attendance. Should a problem occur barring physical injury or mismanagement, a bull of equal value will be provided or a credit will be issued towards the purchase of another bull. Bull Development & Delivery

$70 will be taken off purchase price if bulls are picked up from the sale, otherwise Simmentals and Charolais will be delivered after April 1, 2015.

Health & Fertility

All bulls will have a scrotal measurement and a vet examination done prior to the sale. All bulls over 12 months of age will also be semen tested. These bulls will be delivered once a semn test has been passed. All bulls have been treated with Ivomec and have current vaccinations. Contact the breeder for specific herd health programs.

Sight Unseen Purchase Program

If you are unable to attend the sale but are interested in bulls, give the consignors or Brian Bouchard a call and they will personally go over the bulls and your program and recommend bulls that would meet your needs. We will represent your needs in a professional and confidential manner.

EPD Explanation

EPD’s are “Expected Progeny Differences”. They are a useful tool in selection. EPD’s incorporate the individual animal with is averaged ancestry performance. EPD’s do not compare across cattle breeds, they are individually based per breed. EPD’s indicate a probable variance above or below breed average for that trait for a given bull’s progeny. Bovine Viral Diarrhea, or BVD, is an important disease in cattle. The prevalence of incidence of the disease is relatively low, but if you happen to have it in your herd it can lead to a host of problems. BVD is a complicated disease that can show up as stillbirths or deformed calves, late-term abortions, early embryonic death (early pregnancies are resorbed), Persistently Infected animals (PI animals), or increased incidence of other diseases such as scours, or pneumonia outbreaks that are difficult to resolve. The major reservoir of virus is the Persistently Infected animal. This animal was infected by the virus between 50 and 150 days of gestation. The immune system believes that the virus is a normal part of the body so it is infected for life, in fact, every cell in the animal’s body becomes a virus factory, releasing large amounts of virus into the environment (such as water bowls, feed troughs, etc). Over 50% of PI animals die by 12 to 18 months of age, and probably 90% are dead by 24 months. The PI animal that sheds millions of virus particles daily is a threat to herd mates because the virus suppresses the immune system making them more susceptible to other diseases. This is where the greatest economic losses occur. Vaccination against BVD will not eradicate it from your herd if it is present (vaccine has no effect on the PI animal), but will help to minimize some of the effects. Taking ear notch samples and testing for BVD is the only way to prove an animal is not a PI. Testing and vaccination work together. Buying bulls that are tested PI negative and vaccinated against BVD as calves and pre-breeding is the best way to avoid bringing BVD in with your herdsire purchases. All the Simmental bulls in this sale have been ear-notch tested for BVD.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY - The proper Registration of Recordation paper, as the case may be, will be duly transferred and furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement has been made. SHIPPING - Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale, but Sale Management or Seller assumes no risk. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instruction when making settlement. GUARANTEE - All animals will carry standard breeding guarantee as specified by the applicable Canadian breed Association. At no time shall the seller’s liability exceed the purchased price of the animal. EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE - In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void. In the cases of bulls, they are guaranteed to breed naturally according to applicable Canadian breed Association guarantee, but no guarantee is given that semen from any bull will freeze. HEALTH - It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into his province or state. Bouchard Livestock Ltd assumes no responsibility for the health status of any animal in the sale. ACCIDENTS - Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Sale Management, auctioneer, or Association assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property. RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS - The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and the terms and conditions of this sale do not cover obligations of the two parties connected thereto. BOUCHARD LIVESTOCK LTD IS AGENT ONLY - It is clearly understood that Bouchard Livestock Ltd acts only as agent between buyer and seller and is not in any way responsible for any failure by either party to live up to his or her obligations. Bouchard Livestock Ltd does not assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of monies by either parties, and in exceptional case, any legal action will be between buyer and seller. Bouchard Livestock Ltd has no ownership of the facility and assumes no responsibility for the operation of said facility.
